Vamana karma or induced vomiting is recommended for atisara conditions involving ama or all three doshas. Virechana karma or purgation therapy using herbs like triphala is suggested when stool is scanty or hard. Niruha basti followed by anuvasana basti can be given when doshas are aggravated and constipation is present. Medications involving pachana or digestive herbs are prescribed depending on the dosha involvement and symptoms. Panchakarma therapies aim to eliminate aggravated doshas and ama from the body to treat atisara.

As a matter of fact basti is the most important item among the samshodhana procedures. However the term basti is derived from the fact that the basti yantra or the apparatus used for introducing the medicated materials is made up of basti or animal urinary bladder. Generally a basti is applied through the rectum though it may also be applied for urethra. In such cases the term Uttara basti is applied.
Depending upon the use of different drugs, basti effects samshodhana of doshas. It has also samshamana effects. Thus basti in its different forms has very wide application.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

increased
• Thus it decreases the power of Agni in
Amashaya.
• It then gets mixed with the feaces and increases
in quantity.
• Gets involved with vata dosha
• and finally flows out excessively through the
Adho marga. This is called atisara

7. वािातिसारलिण
म्
Pain of abdomen, waist, thigh, and calves.
Non elimination of urine with intestinal
gurgling.
The person expels faeces often mixed
with froth and of small quantity.
It will be of black colour , dry and often
associated with gas.
तपत्तातिसारलिण
म्
Faeces will be having a foul odour, severe

After explusion the patient might feel severe
thirst, ulceration , fever or even may faint.
8. श्लेष्मातिसारलिणम्
The patient suffers from tandra, nidra,
heaviness of the body, nausea and debility.
Even after elimination of feaces in large
quantity, he again gets the urge for
defecation.
The stool will be pale in colour, thick in
consistency mixed with kapha dosha.
Elimination of feaces happens without any
sound .
The patient will have an aversion towards
food and often happens to have
horripulations.
तत्रदोषजातिसारलिणम्
Here all the 3 doshas are involved.
Here patient will suffer from moha, sada,
debility, dryness of mouth.
Elimination of feaces having multiple
colours.
Exhibits symptoms of above 3 types of
lakshanas.
This type of atisara is difficult to treat and is
incurable in bala and vruddha.
9. आमातिसारलिण

Here atisara develops due to the
involvement of ama dosha.
Doshas get severly aggravated.
Sthana is the amasaya
Here faeces will be having multiple colours .
The patient will be running for defectaion
multiple times and voiding occurs with
much difficulty.
It is difficult to cure.
BHAYAJATISARA
Due to bhaya, vata dosha along with pitta
gets vitiated.
After getting vitiated, it does the द्रवि of the
शक

It gets eliminated easily, which is a little
froathy and usna in nature.
10. शोकातिसारलिणम्
In persons affected with different kinds of grief,
due to alpasana and Basposhmata, it does the
nasha of agni
This gets mixed with rakta, then along with or
without purisha, it moves downwards and gets
eliminated with great difficulty.
The blood will be of काकणिीप्रकाशम् ( color of
gunja seed) having either bad smell or without
it.

अथवा वामतयत्वाऽऽमे शूलाध्माितिपीतडिम् |

First of all the treatment of atisara should be
done only after assessing the ama or pakwa
avasta of the mala.
1) Ama mala :
संसृष्टमेतभदोषैस्तु न्यस्तमप्स्स्ववसीदति |
पुरीषं भृशदुगाप्न्ध तवप्च्छन्नं चामसञ्ज्ञकम् ||
2) Pakwa mala:
एिान्येव िु तलङ्गाति तवपरीिाति यस्य िु |
लाघवं च मिुष्यस्य िस्य पक्व
ं तवतितदाशेि् ||
At first Fasting should be done followed by
intake of pachana yavagu.
If Ama is present then we should go for
shodhana karma.
13. 1) VAMANA KARMA
If Ama is seen in an atisara patient along with soola and
admana, the he / she should be given Vamana karma by
administering kashaya of pippali and saindhava.
After this he can be administered to other therapies like
langhana, swedana, and usnaodaka pana.
After vomiting has stopped he should be given laghu
annawhich is predominantly drava in nature.
If a person eliminates feaces in excess watery form and in large
quantity then he should be given VAMANA first followed by
laghana and administration of pachana drugs.
Vagbhata Acharya says that vamana can be given for pittadi
dushida atisara but not for kevala vata condition
14. Vamana is also indicated when there is a feeling of heaviness of
body associated with preominace of kapha dosha.
When patient suffers from fever, burning sensation and
constipation, due to predominace of vata, then treatment
should be like that of adhoga rakhtapitta which in vamana.
After vamana , one should be given food which are more
dravata in nature . Ex : Kadayusha, yavagu processed with
pippalyadi gana choorna.
If after vamana, still ama dosha persists, the patient should be
made to drink kashaya of either haridradi gana or vachadi gana.
15. 2) VIRECHANA KARMA
If a person eliminates small quantity of faeces associated with
constipation and abdominal pain, then he should be
administered with Virechana karma by giving Abhaya and
pippali with usnodaka.
Acc to charaka samhita :
पैतत्तको यद्िीसारः पयसा िं तवरेचयेि्||

16. If the mala is Bhadda, Bahudosha,
deeptagni and eliminates often, then
he should be administerd with
Virechana.
For virechana he should be
administered with kashaya of vidanga,
triphala and Krishna.
Or
By the administration of milk mixed
with eranda tailam.
After virechana karma , he should be
given yavagu prepared with vata hara
drugs
17. 3) NIRUHA BASTI
When doshas are pakwa and in bahu dosha avasta, followed by
constipation, then to eliminate the doshas niruha basti is given
using mutrashodana dravyas and strictly it should be followed
by Anuvasana basti.
18. 4) Anuvasana BASTI
Acharya susruta says that A.B should be administered immediately after
the administration of Niruha Basti.
प्रवाहणे गुदभ्रंशे मूत्राघािे कतटग्रहे |
मधुराम्ैः शृिं िैलं सतपावााऽप्यिुवासिम्
Acharya advises to administer AB fro pts suffering from paittika
gudapaka. ( if Vata is predominant, then taila processed with dadimanda,
sura and vilva shud be used.)
When the pt is eliminating faeces in small quantity and more of blood
along with vayu vibhanda, then Piccha Basti shud be administered.
If in raktatisara condition, if pain is an associated symptom, then
picchabasti is indicated.
19. MEDICATIONS
Acharya susruta says that ksheera is said to be like amutha
for a patient suffering from atisara.
If he is suffering from chronic atisara, then ksheera has to be
given mixed with 3 parts of jala.
While discussing about sannipata atisara chikitsa, Acharya
says that if atisara is pakwa, of long time, having diff colours
and having no pain, then putapaka should be given with
drugs explained there.
If the condition is niramma, with pain abdomen, and the
patient is emaciated by langana, then gritam should be
administered mixed with yavakshara, only after considering
the agni of the patient.
20. TREATMENT IN OPD
If ama is not present.
Kudajarishta + kudajagana vati
Karpooradi arka
Gangadara vati ( stambana; Y.R)
If ama is present.
Mustarishtam and dadimashtaka choorna(
mixed with honey)
Ayamodaka arka
Karpooradi arka
Editor's Notes
AMA MALA- feaces vitiated by the dosas, sinks when put on water, emit very foul smell, is slimuy, broken.
PAKWA MALA – feaces having opposite guna to ama dosha, the patirent feels lightness in his body, `
