2. Introduction
• Updhatus are the one which are derived from Sara Bhaga of each
Dhatu which supports the Dhatus. Knowledge of Updhatu could be
beneficial to introduce the known and lesser-known concepts related
to manifestation of various diseases. Ayurvedic concept of
Pradoshaja Vikara determines profound insight in understanding the
disease and its manifestation.
• Upadhautus word is mentioned by Acharya Kashyap in Kashyap
samhita.
• "उपमिम िं धा ुम िः इम उपधा ुिः।
• Acharya Chakrapani comments on Ch.Chi. 15/17 that updhatu
provides only base for the body while base and nutrition both are
provided by Dhatu.
4. Concept of Nitya and Anitya
• Few Upadhatus are मित्य ाव and few are अमित्य ाव।
• मित्य ाव are those which are present since birth like snayu, sira,
twak. अमित्य ाव are Raja and stanya. This is stated by Hemadri
commentary.
• Srotus and Dhatvagni plays significant role in nutrition of
dhaatuz the nourishment of UP dhatu are dependent on
nutrition of dhaatues which intern taken care by Dhatvagni
• So any pathology in srotus, Agni and vata leads to origin of
Updhatu pradoshaj vikar.
5. Correlation of Upadhatu, Rogamarga and
Doshas
• Upadhatus usually takes Madhyam or Aabhyantar roga marga for
their diseases.
• Vata vitiates Kandra, Sira, Snayu, Sandhi,Twak in Madhyama
Rogamarga
• Pitta vitiates Twak in Bahya Rogamarga.
• Kapha vitiates Stanya, Vasa in Bahya Rogamarga.
6. Vikar
• Acharya Charak has mentioned
• Snayu, Sira, Kandara doshaj vikar which are sthambh, sankoch,
khalli, granthi, sfuran, supti.
• Along with these Artavakshaya manifest b/c of stanya n artva
dushti, pakshaghat, siraghrah, avabahuka b/c of sira,
Sandhigata vata, vatarakta, vishwachi, khanjata b/c of Kandara,
prameha and kushtha b/c of Vasa, kushth, pandu, visarp,
vatarakta b/c of twaka, amavata, sandhivata b/c of snayu as per
mentioned in the disease samprapti as per mentioned in the
samprapti of various diseases.
