Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

markets 4
5. INTRODUCTION
Innovation is the great way to success in this digital age. The path of
innovation in business means doing something different, smarter or
better that will make a positive difference in terms of value, quality or
productivity by using emerging or proved technologies of the world.
It has dramatically changed the lives of the individuals and
organisations.
Investments in information systems technology can result in the
development of new products, services, and processes.
This can:
1
Create new business opportunities
2
Enable a firm to enter new markets
3
Enable a firm to enter into new market
segments of existing markets
5
6. IMPORTANCE
• The success of every business depends on certain factors.
Some of which are accurate analysis, choosing the right
technology and the future vision. Research from the last
two decade has proved that those organisations that do
invest in technology and choose the path of innovation
increase their market share, financial figures and overall
competitiveness.
• Information technology is the only technology which
provides you the opportunity to analyse specific data and
plan your business journey accordingly.
6
7. • In the modern age, it is proved that digital
marketing is a great tool which let you promote
your products or services to the global market
while sitting in the comfort of your remote office
or home.
7
IMPORTANCE
8. • Strategy, Goals, Mission and Culture drive Business
Processes.
• Information Technology success comes from having a
common understanding. Everyone on the team needs to take
a look at the total picture and approach the solution with the
same view and goal.
• If this occurs it is possible to align business processes and
Information Technology needs with the overall strategy and
goals of an organization.
8
IMPORTANCE
9. KEEP “IT” SIMPLE
We have found many organizations have a tendency to
complicate their Information Technology environment. It is
our belief that Information Technology should not and does
not need to be complicated. We believe organizations should
focus on keeping “IT” simple. By simplifying and
consolidating an organization’s Information Technology there
is:
• Reduced or lowered costs1
• Improved efficiency and increased
consistency2
• Easier overall administration
3
• Ability to respond quicker to change4
• Better use resources (hardware, software
and people).5
9
10. DECISION MAKING
• Speed and accuracy are at the heart of making right decision for
your business.
• Every successful organisation has to go through a comprehensive
market research process which enables management to make the
right decision.
• Currently Big data, Google Analytics and Microsoft CRM Dynamics
are also great tools to extract useful information which can impact
on decision making.
• These online tools not only provide real time responses from the
potential audience but also ensure the accuracy of data by
minimising the risk of human errors.
10
11. MARKETING AND BUSINESS GROWTH
• The heart of the business success lies in its marketing which
enables the management to identify its target audience first and
then observe their trends and needs.
• The overall marketing covers public relation, advertising,
promotion and sales which subsequently impact on business
growth.
• Digital Marketing is a modern phenomenon which let you
promote your products or services all over the world.
• Currently web market is booming at a very fast pace because
most of the entrepreneurs have understood that the long term
success in business is not possible without digital presence on
the internet.
11
12. PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY
• Production technology has allowed modern companies to make
great strides in operational efficiency and the effectiveness of
human resources.
• Automation technology, such as assembly lines and computer-
controlled machinery, can allow companies to produce
unprecedented volumes of goods, and advances in transportation
technology allow businesses to ship their products anywhere in the
world.
• Benefits-1)New methodologies are discovered
2)Improve way of working
3)Maximum output with Minimum input.
12
13. COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY
• Advances in cellular phone technology have revolutionized the way
businesspeople communicate with clients, employees, suppliers and
strategic partners.
• Modern smartphones are changing the game yet again with the
introduction of new and innovative applications.
• Email was one of the early drivers of the Internet, providing a simple
and inexpensive means to communicate. Over the years, a number of
other communications tools have also evolved, allowing staff to
communicate using live chat systems, online meeting tools and video-
conferencing systems.
• Voice over internet protocol (VOIP) telephones and smart-phones offer
even more high-tech ways for employees to communicate.
13
14. MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS
• A management information system (MIS) is a computerized
database of financial information organized and programmed
in such a way that it produces regular reports on operations for
every level of management in a company.
• The main purpose of the MIS is to give managers feedback
about their own performance; top management can monitor
the company as a whole.
14
15. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
• Companies are using IT to improve the way they design and
manage customer relationships.
• Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems capture
every interaction a company has with a customer, so that a
more enriching experience is possible.
• If a customer calls a call center with an issue, the customer
support representative will be able to see what the customer
has purchased, view shipping information, call up the training
manual for that item and effectively respond to the issue.
• The entire interaction is stored in the CRM system, ready to be
recalled if the customer calls again.
• It must be ensured that the CRM systems
that are selected are appropriate for the
organisation and used purposefully in order
to gain the maximum benefits from them,
namely the attainment of CRM goals.
15
16. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND GLOBALISATION
• Resource management plays a crucial role in business success.
• When it comes to medium or large organisation, it is very hard for
the top management to manage all the resources manually. These
resources may include tangible, financial or human resources etc.
• Information technology has played a vital role in automating such
complex problems by introducing user friendly solutions.
• Now, the managers can manage or monitor their organisational
resources virtually anywhere in the world by using their personal
computer, laptops, tablets or Smartphone.
16
18. THE FUTURE
• Modern information technology has gained popularity rapidly since the
mid-twentieth century, and the trend is likely to continue into the future.
• . As IT solutions continue to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of
business operations and communications, businesses will continue to
rely on IT for success.
• By 2020, employment in all computer occupations is expected to
increase by 22%, but some IT fields will fare better than others.
• Demand for software developers will be the strongest in future, with
increases ranging from 28% to 32%, depending on the type of software
development.
18
19. CONCLUSION
• By seeing various uses of IT ,we can say that it is impossible to attain
long term business success without leveraging the benefits of
information technology in this digital age.
• From a lower capital we can generate More Income.
• As IT solutions continue to increase the productivity, efficiency and
effectiveness of business operations and communication, business will
continue to rely on Information Technology for success.
• The companies have to bear a reasonable cost to achieve this success
because using a innovative approach in business strategy, employing
highly trained IT professionals and making right decision at right time
are the prerequisite of business success.
