INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION
 Caffeic acid (CA) is an antioxidant substance occurring naturally
in a variety of plant species.
 Caffeic acid appeared to be a powerful plant response regulator
against a number of abiotic stresses. (Batish et al., 2008)
 Caffeic acid act as a powerful scavenger
against reactive oxygen species (ROS) under
salt stress in plants and improves plant
morphology, physiology, water relations,
activity of antioxidant enzymes and ions
homeostasis.
(Klein et al., 2013)

Salinity and it’s Devastating EffectsSalinity and it’s Devastating Effects
 Salinity is the most atrocious environmental aspects restricting
the productivity of plants in arid and semiarid regions of the
world.
 About 6% of the total and 20 % of irrigated land of the world is
affected by salt stress.
 There is a fear of loss of 50% cultivated land due to rapid
salinization up to 2050.
(FAO, 2015 ; Ahanger et al., 2017)
 Salt stress adversely effects almost all growth stages of plant
including :
Germination
Seedling Growth
Vegetative Growth
Maturity Stage
(Christensen et al., 2008)
 High salt concentration causes an imbalance of cellular ions
resulting in ion toxicity and
osmotic stress.
 Salt stress disturbs the cellular
antioxidant equilibrium leading
to production of reactive oxygen
species (ROS).
(Becana et al., 2000)

 Caffeic acid efficaciously neutralizes the hazardous effects of
different abiotic stresses including salinity. (Christensen et al.,
1998)

  • 3. INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION  Caffeic acid (CA) is an antioxidant substance occurring naturally in a variety of plant species.  Caffeic acid appeared to be a powerful plant response regulator against a number of abiotic stresses. (Batish et al., 2008)
  • 4.  Caffeic acid act as a powerful scavenger against reactive oxygen species (ROS) under salt stress in plants and improves plant morphology, physiology, water relations, activity of antioxidant enzymes and ions homeostasis. (Klein et al., 2013)
  • 6. Salinity and it’s Devastating EffectsSalinity and it’s Devastating Effects  Salinity is the most atrocious environmental aspects restricting the productivity of plants in arid and semiarid regions of the world.  About 6% of the total and 20 % of irrigated land of the world is affected by salt stress.  There is a fear of loss of 50% cultivated land due to rapid salinization up to 2050. (FAO, 2015 ; Ahanger et al., 2017)
  • 7.  Salt stress adversely effects almost all growth stages of plant including : Germination Seedling Growth Vegetative Growth Maturity Stage (Christensen et al., 2008)
  • 8.  High salt concentration causes an imbalance of cellular ions resulting in ion toxicity and osmotic stress.  Salt stress disturbs the cellular antioxidant equilibrium leading to production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). (Becana et al., 2000)
