Risk Management For Construction Projects
The overall aim of this study report is to let everyone know what risk management is, realize the
procedure of risk management in construction project and have a deeper study on the application of
risk management during construction period, therefore, a better project output and better value for
both clients and constructors. There are two objectives of this study: 1. To assess the most major and
common risks which cause bad effect on construction period. 2. To figure out reasonable solutions.
On the basis of the aim and the objectives, research questions have been formulated. 1. What is the
process of risk management? 2. How to apply risk management in construction projects? 3. What
risks are there in construction projects? 4. How risks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surveys of various projects under different stage of progress through reports and interaction with
teams associated with project shall be used to collect information. Initial assessment identifies about
twenty major risk factors likely to occurrence in majority of construction projects. This project
proceeds further its study into the likely impacts of the risk factors on the project objectives. Risk
management may be described as "a systematic way of looking at areas of risk and consciously
determining how each should be treated. It is a management tool that aims at identifying sources of
risk and uncertainty, determining their impact, and developing appropriate management responses. A
systematic process of risk management has been divided into risk classification, risk identification,
risk analysis and risk response, where risk response has been further divided into four actions, i.e.
retention, reduction, transfer and avoidance. An effective risk management method can help to
understand not only what kinds of risks are faced, but also how to manage these risks in different
phases of a project. Owing to its increasing importance, risk management has been recognized as a
necessity in most industries today, and a set of techniques have been developed to control the
influences brought by potential risks compared with many other industries, the construction industry
is subject to more risks due to the unique

Personal Narrative Equipment Hazard Analysis
While working I am having three main objectives to learn and master. My first objective being
learning about job specific personal protective equipment hazards analysis for the shop and field
locations. I have learned that this is used to describe how to perform a task step–by–step, any
hazards associated with a task, and controls to lessen these hazards. Which in the shop I have
noticed they have grinders which cause huge amount of noise in the shop. Wearing proper personal
protective equipment such as ear plug are important and needed when in the shop. Also while
conducting a job specific personal protective equipment hazard analysis I have notice as well that
flying debris is a huge in the shop and at field locations so wearing proper safety ... Show more

Next, review documents that defines safety system records or verifies completion of critical tasks.
These tasks may include emergency preparedness; hazard identification, control, and monitoring;
and safety education and training. Last, conduct field assessment of the facility or equipment. Also
My supervisor taught me a six phase step to perform a safety audit phase one being safety audit
preparation this is where you make sure you have all document, records, past programs and all local,
state, federal requirements. Phase two being fact finding, this is where you get all applicable
information. Phase three being review of findings of the safety audit where you get a team make
sure everything you found is correct. Phase four being recommendations from the safety audit,
which basically you just make recommendation for any problem you see. Phase five being
corrective actions from the safety audit, this is where the mangers and supervisor give you
corrections. The last phase six publish the safety audit results, which allows the supervisor and
mangers to see the result and see some recommendations for

Developing The Stormwater Master Plan
Following is a description of the important data and their potential uses in developing the
Stormwater Master Plan:
a) The accuracy and resolution of topographic data that determines the drainage area boundaries,
slopes and flow paths have a significant impact on the quality of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
and flood mapping. The FMC team expects that the high quality topographic data of Freetown,
including the upstream mountainous areas, will be provided by SLRA within a week of the project
inception. A basemap showing ortho–rectified aerial imagery will significantly help in ground
truthing and resolving discrepancies in data. Additionally topographic survey will be required to
determine the centerline of existing and proposed storm drain alignment and establish vertical and
horizontal geometric characteristic of the urban storm water drainages and structures, centerlines
and cross sections.
b) Geographic coordinates of significant features on or adjacent to the urban storm water drainages
and structures, including buildings, markets and roads will be required. It is assumed that such GIS
data are readily available to support the development of the Master Plan.
c) Assuming the long–term rainfall data are readily available from the Meteorological Office, all
rainfall records from local rain gauges will be compiled. The rainfall data should have a time
interval of one hour or less. The rainfall records will be used as input to the model and to determine
the peak flows

My Experience As An Intern At Anslow Bryant Construction Ltd
Introduction
The purpose of this final report is to summarize my experiences as an intern at Anslow Bryant
Construction, Ltd. I will discuss the internship orientation and preparation, activities and
experiences, and the application of technology. I will continue on to the energy and environmental
awareness, and sustainable construction, and communication shill enhancement. I will conclude this
report with legal and ethical issue awareness, lessons learned, and the overall assessment and
recommendations of the internship.
Internship Orientation and Preparation
The internship orientation was a three day process. The first day was spent with the human resource
department reviewing the employee handbook and completing employment forms. I took a tour of
the office and was introduced to the project managers, estimators, administrative assistants, and the
IT department. I was taken out to lunch by the same managers that interviewed me at the career fair.
The second day was designated for safety. I watched an OSHA video and reviewed the company's
safety manual. Once I completed the video and read through the manual I was able to receive my
PPE. Typically on the second day of the orientation, the safety manager takes the new employee to
visit a jobsite to view safety hazards and proper safety practices. Due to poor weather conditions, I
was unable to attend the safety site visit. On the second day I was scheduled to go to lunch with the
executive team. The third day of orientation

Emergency Response Planning For Corporate And Municipal...
Emergencies are inevitable. Whether they result from natural disasters, hazardous spills or accidents,
or even purposeful acts of terrorism towns, cities, counties, states, and nations need to be prepared
ahead of time with an effective course of action. The book, Emergency Response Planning for
Corporate and Municipal Managers, written by Paul Erickson, challenges agencies and readers to
assess the pieces that must be addressed to be effective in responding appropriately to emergencies.
In this course, a few of the aspects of management that I learned about were the different types of
emergencies, the necessary components of an emergency plan, how to set up a incident command
center, and the need for and type of protective gear. Considering that I have been interning for the
past two years at a large church that sees over 15,000 people attend each weekend, it is imperative to
have a working knowledge of the things that can go wrong and an understanding of how the church
can step in to assist the community in a disaster. Having an awareness of potential community
threats is a must for the church to continue to be the light of the world and to be available to people
in crisis. Chapter 1: Scope of Emergency Response ––Introduction: Even before 9/11, the scope of
who was in charge when there was an emergency was confusing. The confusion was multifaceted:
who was in charge, who would pay for the costs, who would do the labor and who was ultimately

Shy Species Preferred Seahorse Habitats
Terms of Reference Background Seahorses are an iconic, shy species that have become adapted to
live in a variety of habitats. They have the ability to camouflage and a prehensile tail that can only
be forcibly unlocked in the most extremes of weather. They have the ability to grow and reabsorb
spiny appendages on their body, depending on the habitat they live in. The seahorse male is the only
male animal in the world to have a true, full pregnancy. There are two species of Seahorse in the
British Isles, the spiny seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus) and the short snouted seahorse
(Hippocampus hippocampus); both widely distributed and both specialising in differing habitats due
to subtle differences in the shape of the snout and body and their dietary needs, although they can
also be occasionally found in the same habitat together (Garrick–Maidment 2004). Seahorses are
typically found in pairs, once they have migrated back into shallow waters from their deeper, winter
refuge. They are normally observed in shallower water of 2 meter (m) as the sea temperature warms
up to 9 ºC or more (Garrick–Maidment, 2013), they then form ... Show more content on

To present the data and undertake statistical analysis to determine and produce maps of 'preferred
seahorse habitat'. For example, percentage of sightings per habitats in the case of non quantitative
data, mainly for this seahorses sighting database (presence and absence). Since the analysis of
presence– only data is a problem in determining the species distribution and accurately determining
population sizes, more exploratory analysis and investigation of selected sites will be undertaken to
see why some of the preferred habitats have no records of sightings (lack of survey, under–reporting
or poor environmental condition, for example). Hence, logistic regression for presence and absence
is one option while Generalised linear model (GLM) prediction using regression analysis is another
alternative for continuous data (such as sightings

EPA’s Policy of Superfund Sites Redevelopment into...
EPA's Policy of Superfund Sites Redevelopment into Recreational Facilities: The Success of
Chisman Creek
Introduction
Superfund sites are located all across the United States and its territories. These sites have been
deemed the worst of the worst in terms of environmental damage; they pose a threat to human health
and the environment, prior to their remediation. Superfund sites are usually a result of several years
of contamination; however, there are some instances when they are one–time accidents. United
States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is in charge of Superfund, which is the common
term for Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and
the enforcement of this law in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each site goes through several steps when it is listed on the National Priority List (NPL), which
helps to determine the contamination and its extent.
Each of these steps includes an element of site characterization and the potential for future use.
These steps include: Preliminary Assessment/Site Inspection (PA/SI) which investigates the site
conditions, Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) which determines the nature and extent
of the contamination, Record of Decision (ROD) which explains the cleanup technologies that will
be used at the site, Remedial Design/Remedial Action (RD/RA) which is the final step in
preparation for the implementation of site remedies, and then post cleanup activities, such as the
Operation and Maintenance (O&M) which is conducted for many years after the site is remediated
to ensure that the remedy remains effective. (EPA 2000)
Following these steps helps ensure that all sites get remediated to levels that will protect people and
the environment. Within each of these steps there are indications of what the site's future use could
entail. When the site is under consideration for redevelopment into a recreational facility, there are
several factors that EPA pays close attention. One of the most important is containment, if there is
going to be contaminants left on–site, are the proposed technologies for

Economic And Environmental Integration And Optimization Of...
Economic and Environmental integration and optimization of biomass based CHP and micro CHP
into HVAC systems, using life cycle assessment methodology
Global climate change, a growing population, decreasing availability of fossil fuels increasing
environmental and economic concerns regarding energy use are driving forces towards more
sustainable ways of responding to energy demands (Li et al., 2011). Energy consumption is widely
increasing all around the world resulting in rising of the energy price and global environmental
problem. It is estimated that the world energy consumption will increase from 522 EJ in 2006 to 570
EJ in 2015 and 730 EJ in 2030. Due to the rising energy demand and diminishing energy resources,
sustainability and energy conservation are becoming increasingly important topics (Conti et al.,
2013). Governments and businesses are starting to pay more attention to the role of energy in the
design, development and operation of buildings and whole communities.
Buildings currently stand for almost 40% of entire energy consumption in the world therefore there
is a great energy saving potential in buildings (Europe's buildings under the microscope e a country–
by–country review of the energy performance of buildings. Buildings Performance Institute Europe,
2011).
Residential sector is one of the major energy consumers in Canada and is responsible for 77% of
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for space heating and cooling, and hot water.

Facilities For Capacity And Location
Evaluate the facilities with regard to capacity and location. As of December 28, 2014, Johnson &
Johnson has 134 manufacturing facilities, occupying 21.5 million square feet, operating in 60
countries including the United States. The facilities can be broken down by segment or geographical
area. J&J also has major research facilities located in the United States, Belgium, Brazil, Canada,
China, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Switzerland, and the
United Kingdom. (Johnson & Johnson, 2014)
Geographical Area Number of Facilities Square Footage Percentage of Total Revenue
United States 42 5,892,000 46.79%
Europe 41 7,673,000 25.49%
Western Hemisphere (excluding U.S.) 15 3,005,000 9.63%

To make good decisions in both areas managers should assess needs, develop alternatives, and
evaluate the alternatives. A good tool to facilitate location analysis is the break–even analysis
because it evaluates location decisions based on cost values. Another good tool is the transportation
method because it evaluates the cost impact of adding sites to the network of current facilities.
Evaluate the ERP system. An ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, system is a business
management software that integrates all levels of operations. It can include product planning,
development, manufacturing, sales and marketing. The goal of a successful ERP is to improve the
flow of all shared information and data across the entire organization. In the past, Johnson &
Johnson have used an ERP developed by SAP, a German multinational software company and one
of the worlds largest. More recently J&J took on a massive project to consolidate and harmonize
their ERP landscape. J&J 's global enterprise supply chain included 120 manufacturing sites, over
500 external manufacturers, 450 distribution centers, and over 60 ERP systems that support about
275 operating companies (Dignan, 2013). This project was initiated because J&J was finding that
they were having trouble keeping some products on shelves which affected sales. They saw an
opportunity to better meet the evolving needs of customers and hopefully improve the cost of goods
sold efficiently to

Investigating Potential Sustainable Solutions For Waste Of...
Introduction
This paper aims at investigating potential sustainable solutions for waste of the West Garforth
Township Development Project. It will aim at giving an assessment of the proposals of how waste
will be handled in the area during the construction phase as well as when the development is in its
operational phase. This is to cater for a population that is projected to increase by approximately
15%–25%. This paper also aims at assessing the feasibility of the chosen approaches including
knock on effects that would affect different aspects of the development.
Key Planning Objectives
The proposals chosen are aimed more at trying to use waste as a resource that can be recycled and
looking at its disposal as a secondary option to minimize on economic costs. This will be chosen
according to adequacy and effectiveness of the chosen the proposal. They also aim at creating a
system in which the locals will have to take responsibility for the waste emission during operation of
the development project and provide waste management facilities to meet the needs of the locals.
Moreover, to ensure that the waste is handled in a manner that would neither pollute the
environment nor affect human health in a negative way.
During the construction phase
During this phase the production of waste materials is inevitable. Therefore, measures should be
taken in order to the ensure the minimum waste is produced. This can be effectively implemented
the following;
i). Reducing the waste

Potential construction project for The City of Liverpool College – LAX
Author: Matthew Ellis
Introduction:
I have been asked to put together a report for the potential construction project for The City Of
Liverpool College. The current site being looked at is on Roscoe Street. I will be discussing the
consequences which could occur to the buildings in proximity to the site location, and the people
who could be affected.
Body:
During this part of the report, I will be discussing what problems could occur during each phase
(pre–construction, construction, post construction) and how you can go about preventing this from

Natural habitats:
A natural habitat is where a living being lives, for example, we live in our homes, birds live in
trees/nests. As this is a city, there isn't many places where animals can live. Birds can build the nests
and bats can live in buildings, but in terms of forestry for example, there isn't much for an animal.
So it isn't necessary to go into depth about this.
Construction:
During the construction phase, there will be a lot happening all over. This may vary from the actual
erecting of the building, to the transport of goods, to the extraction of materials needed, etc. There
will be a lot of damage done to the o–zone layer, a lot of habitat and biodiversity destroyed, amongst
other things.
Transport of goods:
The transport of good is when materials that are needed for the building are transported to the site,
generally by vehicles. The problem with this is there would be a lot of materials needed to supply
this project. Nitrogen oxide is formed when the combustion of fuels takes place. Vehicles use fuels
(oil) as a source of power, which then releases nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which is what is
destroying our atmosphere. In the UK, this is the biggest pollutant we release. And it is done mostly
by cars.
Nitrogen oxide, when exposed over a long duration of time, can decrease lung function and also
increase the chance of getting bronchitis, cough or phlegm, which is more likely to come into

The Carrying Capacity Of A Tourist Resource
.
The carrying caapacity studies began during the 1930's (O'Reilly, 1986; Saveriades, 2000), they
were principally developed in the 1960's in the national parks of the United States of America
(McCool and Lime, 2001; Manning et al., 2002).The carrying capacity concept is essentially a
decision making framework informed by the regular measurement of agreed indicators of quality.
The concept of carrying capacity was derived in the early 1960's from range management and was
applied to tourism and hospitality management. It was concluded that carrying capacity is not just
one single notion but an amalgamation of four different carrying capacities which are namely
physical, Ecological psychological and Economical. Ecological carrying capacity relates to the
maximum use of a tourist resource without causing any harm to the environment. Social carrying
capacity relates to the reaction of the local people to the tourist development of the place, which
should never be negative, Psychological carrying capacity relates to the quality of visitors'
satisfaction with a certain tourist destination, which is not to be decreased; Economic carrying
capacity relates to the level of acceptable dependence between the local economy and the level of
the tourist development of a place, which should never become too heavy
"The carrying capacity of any tourist destination, whether it be an historic building, a beach or a
dive site, is not a single figure that can be calculated and fixed. It is a

The First Nations On The Proposed Windy Energy Project
Introduction
In this report I will outline my recommendation on how to approach the Metlakatla First Nations on
the proposed Windy Energy Project. Through my research I believe a promising opportunity is
present in pursuing business negotiations with this community. With our mutual goals of providing
sustainable project developments I believe the Metlakatla community will make strong business
partners. In order to establish a respectful and welcoming negotiation process, Windy Power must
strongly understand their values, cultural sensitivities and organizational structure.
Background Information
The Metlakatla First Nation is based on the north coast of British Columbia, north of Prince Rupert.
The community is quite small and remote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As indicated in appendix A, the Metlakatla territory spans roughly 20,000 square kilometers
including twenty–one reserves, ten of which are Metlakatla only (Leighton, 2012). The Metlakatla
traditional language is Sm'algyax, but due to the close proximity to Prince Rupert and an aging elder
population very few members fluently speak the language (Metlakatla Governing Council, 2015).
Thus there are no significant language barriers that would be of concern when communicating with
the community.
Metlakatla is a signatory to a number of agreements including (Treaty, n.d.): Ongoing: Treaty
Negotiations, Marine use Planning Dec 10, 2009: Reconciliation Protocol: Official recognition of
Metlakatla's Aboriginal Rights and Title
Oct 18, 2007: Protected Area Collaborative Management Agreement
June 07, 2006: Strategic Land Use Planning Agreement
2006: Land and Resource Protocol Agreement
Currently the Metlakatla First Nations are at Stage 4 in negotiating a treaty intended to provide use
and management of land and resources, set out First Nations self–government, and create viable
First Nations economies (Treaty, n.d.). The outcome of the treaty process will strongly influence the
viability of the project and should be followed closely for any changes that should be made in the
assessment process.

The matrix comprises the environmental components found in a given study area, listed along both
axes of the matrix: the cells then represent possible linkages between the components. This is
illustrated in Figure . The analyst codes those cells where a direct link exists a "1", the other cells
have a "0". On multiplying the matrix by itself, the resultant matrix indicates those components that
can be reached within one (direct link) or two (indirect link) steps from another component. Further
matrix multiplication can identify 3–, 4–, 5–step links between the environmental components.

Bisphenol-A
Bisphenol–A (or BPA) is an organic compound used in the industrial production of plastics. It was
first synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and
epoxy resins since the 1960s (US–FDA, 2012). Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid,

BANANA VACCINES – EAT UP YOUR VACCINES
(Introduction)
Risk Assessment and Testing
Risk assessment is a process to identify potential hazardous components, analyze dose–response
relationship, evaluating the possibility for human exposure, and estimating the frequency of contrary
effects under various conditions. The production of edible vaccines in transgenic plants was first
proposed in 1990. As technology matures, production of these vaccines is more focused on the
regulatory framework that controls and approves the products (Straub et al., 2012). There is no
inclusive federal legislation specifically addressing GMOs. GMOs are regulated under the general
statutory authority of environmental, health, and safety laws. The three main agencies involved in
regulating GMOs are
1. The US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)
2. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
3. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Risk Assessment Logical Flow
The process of risk assessment flows in a logical stepwise fashion that includes the following five
steps: (1) problem formulation; (2) hazard identification; (3) dose–response relationships; (4)

Risk Management At The Colorado I 70 Monorail Project, A...
Abstract This report applies proactive risk management to the construction of the Colorado I–70
Monorail project, a 155–mile transportation system from Denver, CO to Vail, CO. Risk events and
impacts for the $7.5 billion project are identified based on the five–year construction schedule.
Referencing "Proactive Risk Management" by P. G. Smith and G. M. Merritt, the standard risk
model and the five–step risk management process are described and utilized. This report identifies
and analyzes risks associated with the use of monorail technology, construction scheduling, and
unexpected costs. Through the use and demonstration of Step 1 and Step 2 of the five–step process,
risk likelihood and expected loss for each risk are developed. The results of Step 1 and Step 2 will
be utilized in a subsequent report detailing risk prioritization, action plans, and monitoring risks.
Project Overview
Objective
Risk management is an important task in ensuring the successful construction of the Colorado I–70
Monorail System. The intermediate speed monorail will run from the Front Range of Colorado to
the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The fixed guideway rail system will connect existing public
transportation systems in the Denver metropolitan area to multiple mountain communities. The
route will parallel the existing interstate I–70 and will begin in Denver, CO and will end in Vail, CO.
The objective of the monorail system is to alleviate traffic and improve access to the mountain
regions

Holcim Case Study
. Assessment of Initial Situation
The Dufferin Aggregates Acton Quarry is one of Holcim's substantially large quarries. Operational
since 1951 [1], the quarry plans to be completely rehabilitated within the next few decades.
Currently, phases 1 through 3 are being implemented. The following outlines a year to year plan on
the possible execution of phases 4 through 6.
In order to successfully engineer this 20 year plan, the triple bottom line must be a concrete
threshold for the project: People, Profit, and Planet. By being aware of the environmental
implications of this plan, as well as the social impacts and the cost of the project, the project
definition strives to match what Holcim stands for as a company. This report will cover ... Show

They include things like secure supply (the availability of key consumables like electricity, water,
gas and other fuels), capital expenditure (the inflationary costs of oil, coal, transportation, energy,
mining equipment and contracting) and naturally, health and safety risks, always present and a top
priority [17].
Operational phase risks
These risks are present while the mining operation is in full swing. Difficulties may arise in the
event of a natural catastrophe, BI (business interruption, which can be caused by a variety of factors)
and project transition phase risk (involving the attempt to have a seamless transition between the
construction and the operational phase) [17].
Liability risks
A prime concern for the DFAActon Quarry is the safety and well–being of the workforce and those
who come into contact with the mine and the processing facilities. Aggregates Consulting Ltd.
supports a zero tolerance approach to workplace injuries and fatalities, but extends the approach to
environmental and social awareness [17].

It Project Management vs Construction Project Management
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This document serves the purpose of critically analysing the differences that exist between
managing construction projects and I.T Projects
INTRODUCTION
Over the past few years, project managers and Project management has shown tremendous growth.
Project management has evolved over the past several years from an activity in an organization to a
discipline in its own right. Many professional bodies exist today to represent project management as
a discipline, Some of which include, PMI, Prince2 Foundation, PM Bok.
According to A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), – Third
Edition,

Key outputs in this phase are the Projects Requirements definition, the capability and capacity
assessment, project delivery strategy and the Project Management plan. The role of the construction/
project manager in this phase is, once project authorized, it is the project manager's responsibility to
implement the project. In terms of the Project Requirements Definition the, the project manager
refines and details the project authorization and details what the project is required to accomplish in
terms of the products/services the project will deliver and the scope of work that needs to be done.
The project manager must provide project team members, corporate sponsors, and other
stakeholders with a common understanding of what the project is all about, and is the authoritative
reference document that defines the project.
The Project/ Construction manager is also responsible for a capability and capacity assessment, in
which the project manager assesses the levels of resource capabilities and capacities needed to
accomplish the project defined by the Project Requirements Definition. Capability is a measure of a
resource's skill levels, experience, and ability to perform. Capacity is a measure of the quantity of
the resources. The project manager may need to consult with peers or consultants who have prior
experience with similar projects to accurately determine the necessary resources. After the capability
and capacity assessment is completed another key

Superfund Project Essay
The purpose of this document is to provide an explanation for the cleanup of abandoned or
contaminated industrial sites in Maryland. These contaminated sites are typically referred to as
Brownfields or Superfund sites. A brownfield is a term used to describe land in the United States
that is under used because redevelopment is complicated by the presence of environmental
contamination.1 State entities work in cooperation with the EPA to delegate management of
brownfield cleanup programs. Superfund sites are defined as abandoned sites that require federal
action because they pose a real threat to human health or the environment. Congress establish the
Superfund Program in 1980 to evaluate and clean up the worst sites nationwide. Superfund site ...

The CHSEP, also is known as the State Superfund Program, administers the assessment of properties
not listed on the EPA's NPL that are suspected to be contaminated with hazardous substances. The
CHSEP monitors hazardous site that are known or could potentially be contaminated with CHS or
oil through its Brownfield Master Inventory (BMI). Once a potential site is added to the BMI, the
CHSEP will attempt to identify the person or organization responsible for the release of hazardous
substances. If the responsible party either refused or was unable to perform the necessary
remediation work, the CHSEP will use State general funds to conduct assessments and carry out
remediation at the contaminated site. The CHSEP also coordinates with the EPA in conducting
preliminary investigations of NPL sites. The VCP encourages eligible purchasers and parties
responsible for contamination to voluntarily clean up and redevelop brownfield sites.4 In 1997,
Governor Parris N. Glendening singed Maryland's Brownfields Legislation (Senate Bill 340/House
Bill 409) into law by, which allowed for the establishment of the VCP and the Brownfields
Revitalization Incentive Program (BRIP). The VCP works to facilitate the reuse of eligible
brownfield sites contaminated CHS substances or oil since October 2004. Applicants seeking to
enroll a property in the VCP must submit a Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessment, a
$6,000 application fee, and any other information required by the Maryland VCP. After reviewing
the application, the MDE will notify the applicant whether the application is approved, incomplete,
or denied. There are two types of final site approval documents: a No Further Requirements
Determination (NFRD) or a Certificate of Completion (COC). A NFRD is a notice by the MDE that

Graduation Speech : Learning And Experience Goals
Learning and Experience Goals: With over half of my internship completed, I am eager and proud to
review the progress I've achieved, so far, toward my learning and experience goals. Concerning
bullet A, I have gained a greater understanding of storm water pollution and our regional watershed
though my experiences distributing and installing outreach materials and signs. At a couple of
outreach events held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, my general knowledge of pollution and our
watershed was communicated to the public at a very professional level, which improved my
confidence for outreach. Bullets B and C match well to my personal strengths, and once given the
experience of working with CSP volunteers, SAC and SCYEC I was able to ... Show more content

Forward going, I hope to continue achieving my goals and continue to reach for more. There are
some learning/experience goals that I hope to still pursue, which includes assisting in a full water
sampling testing, attending a spill response, participating in facility tours (Calpine geysers
specifically), and logging more hours of experience doing wetland delineations. I also would like to
continue to utilize the CRAM as a way to objectively prioritize the proposed restoration sites in our
Citywide Creek Master Plan.
Performance Standards:
I actively push myself to be aware of and upholding to the organizational values and basic principles
of the City of Santa Rosa, which are easily available in my office to reference. One of the basic
principle I value greatly is to "take initiative to make things better" because I have a very genuine
care for the work that our section is capable of carrying out. I try my best to behave in a manner that
respects that safety, as the result of healthy work habits, is an essential quality of someone who is
good at their job. So I take advantage of all employee safety trainings made available, because that
way I can improve my knowledge of safety and expectations. Finally, I fully appreciate the value of
honesty and acceptance in the occurrence of accidents, and believe that those qualities will help me

The Ma–a slaughterhouse has three ponds, the aerobic pond, anaerobic pond, and the facultative
pond, which are used for the wastewater. There is also a sludge drying bed for the sludge.
The solid wastes generated are just disposed in a nearby dumpsite or within the area, which then
creates foul odor. Some solid wastes like bones and coagulated bloods are sold as fertilizers.
Uncollected bloods are directly thrown to floor drains.
B. Project Location
Davao City slaughterhouse is located at Ma–a Davao City. The industry is isolated into the
community of Ma–a District and has a fence all over the area. It occupies about 10,000 sq. meters of
land and is isolated with the residential areas. It drains its waste through the waste water system of

Nuclear Power Plant Safety Systems
Topic 1 – Nuclear Power Plant Safety Systems IAEA Synopsis: In 1956, 81 member nations
unanimously approved The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Statute, the guiding
document for the creation of this committee. The objective of the statue stated that "the Agency shall
seek to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity
throughout the world. It shall ensure, so far as it is able, that assistance provided by it or at its
request or under its supervision or control is not used in such a way as to further any military
purpose." As such, the IAEA was established in 1957 to respond to global fears about the potential
dangers of nuclear energy. Since its creation, the IAEA has responded to a wide variety of issues
related to atomic energy. At the time of its creation, the primary fear was that nuclear power could
be an avenue to create and use nuclear weapons. Indeed, this is still a concern today. Of late, the
IAEA has focused on ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants. Various safety–system failures in
nuclear power plants calls for the revision of the current safety standards and approaches for
maintain the safety of nuclear power sources. One such event that caused this shift in focus was the
Fukushima accident in 2011.
March 11, 2011–Fukushima Accident At 2:46pm Japan tremored under the Great East Japan

Public outreach is a role that I've become increasing involved in since our team redeveloped our
outreach tabling approach for public events and markets this past year. At events like the Wednesday
Night Market and West End Farmers Market, I've engaged with the public to spread Storm Water
and Creeks information as it pertains to the NPDES permit. I've also continued to develop and
supply outreach materials for public access City office buildings and community centers, including
items like the new Creek Trails of Santa Rosa Map and Guide and the brochure Only Rain down the

Creek restoration reach, I've been able to share this knowledge with SAC, SCYEC, other interns and
co–workers, and volunteers at every opportunity while cultivating the Colgan Creek restoration area
on a minimum of a weekly basis.
In addition to lightly monitoring several small scale completed restoration projects across the City
including Lornadell Creek at Galvin Park and Paulin Creek at Chanate Rd., I've initiated several
small restoration projects of my own. In response to a fire just downstream of the Prince Memorial

Superfund Site Essay
When it comes to Superfund sites there are few more complex and challenging than Portland
Harbor. The site covers around ten miles of river (miles 3.5 to 9) form the southern part of Sauvie
Island to a bit past Fremont Bridge. There are numerous potentially responsible parties (PRPs) that
date back to over a hundred years of contamination that includes a smorgasbord of pollutants. There
are endangered species act (ESA) concerns and the area is culturally noteworthy to six Native
American tribes. Portland Harbor is located along the Willamette River and has an extensive history
of commercial, shipping, and industrial activities. There are also significant amounts of natural and
cultural resources. In 1997, a mutual study conducted by the Oregon Department of Environmental
Quality (DEQ) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revealed that sediments in the
harbor were contaminated with DDT, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), petroleum, and pesticides.
Upon the discovery of this data, in 2000, the EPA established Portland Harbor as a Superfund site.

The Fight Against Malaria, West Africa
In Ghana, West Africa, the fight against malaria has been on since the 1950's (Ghana Health
Services, 2014). 3.5 million People contract malaria annually, with 25% of the death of children
under the age of 5 tied to malaria (UNICEF, 2007). The effect on malaria on life, economy and
productivity is devastating and every attempt aimed at controlling this epidemic is well targeted.
Thus, for this project, we are designing a PRECEDE–PROCEED Model (PPM) targeted at malaria
control in Ghana, West Africa.
According to Community Tool Box (2014) PRECEDE involves a process that leads up to an
intervention program, it stands for Predisposing, Reinforcing, and Enabling Constructs in
Educational/Environmental Diagnosis and Evaluation. PROCEED, on the other hand is Policy,
Regulatory, and Organizational Constructs in Educational and Environmental Development, and, as
its name implies, it describes how to proceed with the intervention program. According to
DiClemente, Salazar & Crosby (2013), PPM provides a template for the process of conceiving,
planning, implementing and evaluating a population intervention. It incorporates evaluation of the
process, the intervention and final outcome that allows the intervention to be monitored, evaluated
and modified to corresponding population needs, changes in situation, and ensures that its
accomplishment leads to the projected goal. The PRECEDE–PROCEED Model (PPM) involves the
active participation of the target population and embodies two key

Furthermore, she said that at times she had poor coping skills and often used marijuana to cope with
her feelings.
After the assessment was completed, the staff and I had an opportunity to discuss her intake. Based
on the information that was given we were able to identify the systems that played a role in her
coming into the group. We also were able to establish rapport her by introducing her to some of the
other clients who also identified as male in the group setting. By creating that support system within
the group, she was able to feel more comfortable with staff members and other clients. Furthermore,
the staff was also able to speak with her about her substance abuse issues. By evaluating substance
abuse problems and addressing the motivation for change. Referrals for substance abuse counseling

Phase II
At the agency part of the group, the process is gaining education about a different topic such as;

Surveys of various projects under different stage of progress through reports and interaction with teams associated with project shall be used to collect information. Initial assessment identifies about twenty major risk factors likely to occurrence in majority of construction projects. This project proceeds further its study into the likely impacts of the risk factors on the project objectives. Risk management may be described as "a systematic way of looking at areas of risk and consciously determining how each should be treated. It is a management tool that aims at identifying sources of risk and uncertainty, determining their impact, and developing appropriate management responses. A systematic process of risk management has been divided into risk classification, risk identification, risk analysis and risk response, where risk response has been further divided into four actions, i.e. retention, reduction, transfer and avoidance. An effective risk management method can help to understand not only what kinds of risks are faced, but also how to manage these risks in different phases of a project. Owing to its increasing importance, risk management has been recognized as a necessity in most industries today, and a set of techniques have been developed to control the influences brought by potential risks compared with many other industries, the construction industry is subject to more risks due to the unique ... My first objective being learning about job specific personal protective equipment hazards analysis for the shop and field locations. I have learned that this is used to describe how to perform a task step–by–step, any hazards associated with a task, and controls to lessen these hazards. Which in the shop I have noticed they have grinders which cause huge amount of noise in the shop. Wearing proper personal protective equipment such as ear plug are important and needed when in the shop. • 3. Developing The Stormwater Master Plan Following is a description of the important data and their potential uses in developing the Stormwater Master Plan: a) The accuracy and resolution of topographic data that determines the drainage area boundaries, slopes and flow paths have a significant impact on the quality of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and flood mapping. The FMC team expects that the high quality topographic data of Freetown, including the upstream mountainous areas, will be provided by SLRA within a week of the project inception. A basemap showing ortho–rectified aerial imagery will significantly help in ground truthing and resolving discrepancies in data. Additionally topographic survey will be required to determine the centerline of existing and proposed storm drain alignment and establish vertical and horizontal geometric characteristic of the urban storm water drainages and structures, centerlines and cross sections. b) Geographic coordinates of significant features on or adjacent to the urban storm water drainages and structures, including buildings, markets and roads will be required. It is assumed that such GIS data are readily available to support the development of the Master Plan. c) Assuming the long–term rainfall data are readily available from the Meteorological Office, all rainfall records from local rain gauges will be compiled. The rainfall data should have a time interval of one hour or less. The rainfall records will be used as input to the model and to determine the peak flows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will discuss the internship orientation and preparation, activities and experiences, and the application of technology. I will continue on to the energy and environmental awareness, and sustainable construction, and communication shill enhancement. I will conclude this report with legal and ethical issue awareness, lessons learned, and the overall assessment and recommendations of the internship. Internship Orientation and Preparation The internship orientation was a three day process. The first day was spent with the human resource department reviewing the employee handbook and completing employment forms. I took a tour of the office and was introduced to the project managers, estimators, administrative assistants, and the IT department. I was taken out to lunch by the same managers that interviewed me at the career fair. The second day was designated for safety. I watched an OSHA video and reviewed the company's safety manual. Once I completed the video and read through the manual I was able to receive my PPE. Typically on the second day of the orientation, the safety manager takes the new employee to visit a jobsite to view safety hazards and proper safety practices. Due to poor weather conditions, I was unable to attend the safety site visit. On the second day I was scheduled to go to lunch with the executive team. The third day of orientation ... • 6. Emergency Response Planning For Corporate And Municipal... Emergencies are inevitable. Whether they result from natural disasters, hazardous spills or accidents, or even purposeful acts of terrorism towns, cities, counties, states, and nations need to be prepared ahead of time with an effective course of action. The book, Emergency Response Planning for Corporate and Municipal Managers, written by Paul Erickson, challenges agencies and readers to assess the pieces that must be addressed to be effective in responding appropriately to emergencies. In this course, a few of the aspects of management that I learned about were the different types of emergencies, the necessary components of an emergency plan, how to set up a incident command center, and the need for and type of protective gear. Considering that I have been interning for the past two years at a large church that sees over 15,000 people attend each weekend, it is imperative to have a working knowledge of the things that can go wrong and an understanding of how the church can step in to assist the community in a disaster. Having an awareness of potential community threats is a must for the church to continue to be the light of the world and to be available to people in crisis. Chapter 1: Scope of Emergency Response ––Introduction: Even before 9/11, the scope of who was in charge when there was an emergency was confusing. The confusion was multifaceted: who was in charge, who would pay for the costs, who would do the labor and who was ultimately responsible for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Shy Species Preferred Seahorse Habitats Terms of Reference Background Seahorses are an iconic, shy species that have become adapted to live in a variety of habitats. They have the ability to camouflage and a prehensile tail that can only be forcibly unlocked in the most extremes of weather. They have the ability to grow and reabsorb spiny appendages on their body, depending on the habitat they live in. The seahorse male is the only male animal in the world to have a true, full pregnancy. There are two species of Seahorse in the British Isles, the spiny seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus) and the short snouted seahorse (Hippocampus hippocampus); both widely distributed and both specialising in differing habitats due to subtle differences in the shape of the snout and body and their dietary needs, although they can also be occasionally found in the same habitat together (Garrick–Maidment 2004). Seahorses are typically found in pairs, once they have migrated back into shallow waters from their deeper, winter refuge. They are normally observed in shallower water of 2 meter (m) as the sea temperature warms up to 9 ºC or more (Garrick–Maidment, 2013), they then form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... EPA's Policy of Superfund Sites Redevelopment into Recreational Facilities: The Success of Chisman Creek Introduction Superfund sites are located all across the United States and its territories. These sites have been deemed the worst of the worst in terms of environmental damage; they pose a threat to human health and the environment, prior to their remediation. Superfund sites are usually a result of several years of contamination; however, there are some instances when they are one–time accidents. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each site goes through several steps when it is listed on the National Priority List (NPL), which helps to determine the contamination and its extent. Each of these steps includes an element of site characterization and the potential for future use. These steps include: Preliminary Assessment/Site Inspection (PA/SI) which investigates the site conditions, Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) which determines the nature and extent of the contamination, Record of Decision (ROD) which explains the cleanup technologies that will be used at the site, Remedial Design/Remedial Action (RD/RA) which is the final step in preparation for the implementation of site remedies, and then post cleanup activities, such as the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) which is conducted for many years after the site is remediated to ensure that the remedy remains effective. (EPA 2000) Following these steps helps ensure that all sites get remediated to levels that will protect people and the environment. Within each of these steps there are indications of what the site's future use could entail. When the site is under consideration for redevelopment into a recreational facility, there are several factors that EPA pays close attention. Economic and Environmental integration and optimization of biomass based CHP and micro CHP into HVAC systems, using life cycle assessment methodology Global climate change, a growing population, decreasing availability of fossil fuels increasing environmental and economic concerns regarding energy use are driving forces towards more sustainable ways of responding to energy demands (Li et al., 2011). Energy consumption is widely increasing all around the world resulting in rising of the energy price and global environmental problem. It is estimated that the world energy consumption will increase from 522 EJ in 2006 to 570 EJ in 2015 and 730 EJ in 2030. Due to the rising energy demand and diminishing energy resources, sustainability and energy conservation are becoming increasingly important topics (Conti et al., 2013). Governments and businesses are starting to pay more attention to the role of energy in the design, development and operation of buildings and whole communities. Buildings currently stand for almost 40% of entire energy consumption in the world therefore there is a great energy saving potential in buildings (Europe's buildings under the microscope e a country– by–country review of the energy performance of buildings. Introduction This paper aims at investigating potential sustainable solutions for waste of the West Garforth Township Development Project. It will aim at giving an assessment of the proposals of how waste will be handled in the area during the construction phase as well as when the development is in its operational phase. This is to cater for a population that is projected to increase by approximately 15%–25%. This paper also aims at assessing the feasibility of the chosen approaches including knock on effects that would affect different aspects of the development. Key Planning Objectives The proposals chosen are aimed more at trying to use waste as a resource that can be recycled and looking at its disposal as a secondary option to minimize on economic costs. This will be chosen according to adequacy and effectiveness of the chosen the proposal. They also aim at creating a system in which the locals will have to take responsibility for the waste emission during operation of the development project and provide waste management facilities to meet the needs of the locals. Moreover, to ensure that the waste is handled in a manner that would neither pollute the environment nor affect human health in a negative way. During the construction phase During this phase the production of waste materials is inevitable. Therefore, measures should be taken in order to the ensure the minimum waste is produced. As this is a city, there isn't many places where animals can live. Birds can build the nests and bats can live in buildings, but in terms of forestry for example, there isn't much for an animal. So it isn't necessary to go into depth about this. Construction: During the construction phase, there will be a lot happening all over. This may vary from the actual erecting of the building, to the transport of goods, to the extraction of materials needed, etc. There will be a lot of damage done to the o–zone layer, a lot of habitat and biodiversity destroyed, amongst other things. Transport of goods: The transport of good is when materials that are needed for the building are transported to the site, generally by vehicles. The problem with this is there would be a lot of materials needed to supply this project. Nitrogen oxide is formed when the combustion of fuels takes place. Vehicles use fuels (oil) as a source of power, which then releases nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which is what is destroying our atmosphere. In the UK, this is the biggest pollutant we release. And it is done mostly by cars. The concept of carrying capacity was derived in the early 1960's from range management and was applied to tourism and hospitality management. It was concluded that carrying capacity is not just one single notion but an amalgamation of four different carrying capacities which are namely physical, Ecological psychological and Economical. Ecological carrying capacity relates to the maximum use of a tourist resource without causing any harm to the environment. Social carrying capacity relates to the reaction of the local people to the tourist development of the place, which should never be negative, Psychological carrying capacity relates to the quality of visitors' satisfaction with a certain tourist destination, which is not to be decreased; Economic carrying capacity relates to the level of acceptable dependence between the local economy and the level of the tourist development of a place, which should never become too heavy "The carrying capacity of any tourist destination, whether it be an historic building, a beach or a dive site, is not a single figure that can be calculated and fixed. The Fight Against Malaria, West Africa In Ghana, West Africa, the fight against malaria has been on since the 1950's (Ghana Health Services, 2014). 3.5 million People contract malaria annually, with 25% of the death of children under the age of 5 tied to malaria (UNICEF, 2007). The effect on malaria on life, economy and productivity is devastating and every attempt aimed at controlling this epidemic is well targeted. PROCEED, on the other hand is Policy, Regulatory, and Organizational Constructs in Educational and Environmental Development, and, as its name implies, it describes how to proceed with the intervention program. According to DiClemente, Salazar & Crosby (2013), PPM provides a template for the process of conceiving, planning, implementing and evaluating a population intervention. It incorporates evaluation of the process, the intervention and final outcome that allows the intervention to be monitored, evaluated and modified to corresponding population needs, changes in situation, and ensures that its accomplishment leads to the projected goal.
