Mining can affect wildlife by cutting down and clearing large amounts of trees, also known as
deforestation. It also can affect water by contaminating the water with different types of metals.
Finally, mining can affect people such as miners and everyday people by putting their health at
risk. Mining connects to the author J.R.R. Tolkien because Tolkien experiencing effects of mining
in his childhood. Mining corporations cleared out land in England and it destroyed Tolkien s
childhood home. Tolkien added mining into one of his novels, the Lord of the Rings. In Lord of the
Rings, Tolkien creates a place called Middle earth. In Middle earth, there is an underground
complex called Moria. In Moria, there is a vast majority of mines where dwarves live and like to
mine. Even though Tolkien may have glossed over the thought of mining with great description
and imagery, mining can do a lot of harm and it s not a subject to falsify. Mining is an important
