Review of the 13th Asia-Pacific RCE Regional Meeting

2. The Regional Meeting was held as as series of four webinars that were held
on 10th, 24th September and 8th, 22nd October 2020 at the AKSU Faculty of
Geography, Ecology and Tourism.

4. Thematic sessions:
1st Session: Role of ESD during COVID-19 pandemic.
2nd Session: Achievements and Collaborative Initiatives of RCEs of
Asia-Pacific region in Response to COVID-19.
3rd Session: ESD as Learning and Empowerment – Revisiting the AP
RCEs' Regional Action Plans.
4th Session: Discussion on Emerging Asia Pacific RCEs' Collaborative
Initiatives.

6. RCE’s shared its Action Plans, identified similarities and common challenges,
and revisited and updated the regional-level Action Plans that have evolved
during recent years.
There were two sectoral discussions held in sequence, namely (1) Higher
Education & Community Engagement; and (2) Schools and Youth &
Community Engagement.
RCEs discussed possible collaborative projects. Two thematic groups
discussed ‘Circular Economy, New Livelihood Opportunities’ and ‘Climate
Change, Disaster Risk Reduction, Biodiversity Conservation and Wellbeing.
7. Results of
discussions:
AP RCE members identified and suggested themes for collaborative
projects that could be developed:
- Governance and Policy, Sustainable agriculture;
- Green campus/Sustainable environment, Indigenous and local
communities Mangroves, Water, Youth;
- Disaster Risk Reduction Preparedness;
Convenors of each theme developed one-pagers including action
plans and expected outputs for further follow-up.
9. On-line 13 AP RCE meeting part 2 held on 5 October 2021. The theme:
“SDGs/ESD for 2030, and local actions during COVID-19 Pandemic”.
AP RCEs shared good ESD practices, successful activities, teaching
methods/methodologies in times of COVID-19, including different context such as formal
and informal education.
The conference focused:
What main lessons the AP RCEs community learned during the COVID-19?
What has made AP RCEs stronger during COVID-19 pandemic?
How supported AP RCEs communities mobilized against the COVID-19 pandemic through
SDG/ESD?
New challenges for RCE community: What activities could help to mitigate COVID-19
impacts?
10. Outputs
AP RCEs members discussed the role of ESD during the COVID-19
pandemic and implementation of sustainable development
principles in the Asia-Pacific region.
RCE members and stakeholders shared the experience of
response and possibilities of education for sustainable
development during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
