first understand your organisation’s capability importance
profile
• You then must quantify your capability gaps

• Existing framework do not capture or cater for the end-to-
end complexity of the IT function
• Existing frameworks are static and do not explicitly handle
variability in capability profiles across organisations
• A synthesis of what is best from the existing frameworks is
required to create a complete view of necessary IT
capabilities and to define a programme of work to achieve
the necessary improvements
• Capabilities need to be mapped to a specific IT function
structure with role definitions, staffing and an operating
model
