The reticuloendothelial system (RES), also known as the macrophage system, consists of primitive phagocytic cells essential for the body's defense mechanisms. These reticuloendothelial cells are found in various structures, including the endothelial lining of vascular and lymph channels, connective tissues, and organs like the spleen and liver. They are classified into fixed reticuloendothelial cells (tissue macrophages) and wandering reticuloendothelial cells.
