Profile
A diversified and successful 25 year career in construction providing a thorough
track record of completing difficult projects on schedule and budget proving an
ability to work in upstream locations with limited communications and scant
logistical support with minimal supervision where self-reliance and lateral thinking
are required. Excellent interpersonal skills, a professional attitude, and firm
personality to see tough jobs through independently or as a team member. I am
most familiar with and committed to the construction planning and good practices
in all aspects of construction, general contracting, and building regulations.
Working with all aspects of construction assuring that all safety guidelines and
company health and safety programs are part of the daily culture and
implemented through sound guidance and constant updating and training as

Notable Projects 2010-2015
PCL Constructors-Villa St Joseph du lac (Yarmouth)
Role- PCL acting Project Superintendent, this is a 79 bed long term care facility. This
facility was constructed using lumber as the main building material for the structure. 2
stories 70,000 sq. feet with in- floor and forced air heating systems, solar and 3 oil fired
boilers. Due to the building being constructed from lumber there was an extensive mold
abatement and inspection during the building process. Self-performed construction and
installation of the structure, siding, windows, interior and exterior doors.
PCL Constructors-Halifax central library (Halifax)
Role-PCL acting Project Superintendent. This contract was for the structure only which
was to be concrete formwork. This was unusual project with some challenges involving
one major contractor working for another major contractor. We staffed the job with
unionized carpenters and laborers; we had at one time 40 carpenters and 30 laborers on
this project to complete in the scheduled time. Un orthodox layouts of the floors working
with Peri form systems which most workers had not been familiar with was challenging
to say the least.
PCL Constructors-Central Nova Scotia civic center (Truro)
Role- PCL one of the 2 Project Superintendents. My role was to oversee the installation
of the suspended floors, the 2 swimming pools and the skating rink. Very unique project
to be associated with .The pools were the most challenging part of this project with all
formwork being self-performed also the Logistics involving the pool controls and the geo
3. thermal cooling system for the ice making system The housing of 3 very different
environments under one roof poses its design and engineering challenges, fitness center,
pool area, hockey rink all requiring separate climate controls.
PCL Constructors-RCMP Division |H headquarters (Dartmouth)
Role- PCL Project Superintendent. Working alongside a team of project managers
coordinators trades to complete this 80 million dollar project. My role was to oversee all
areas of construction from the ground breaking stage, set up of site, massive amount of
concrete work for this huge concrete reinforced structure, large formwork contractor
presence on site which I was challenged with overseeing along with the reinforcing steel
and all quality control documentation. Challenging with the scale of project ensuring
QC/QA was at the forefront.
Notable Projects 1995-2009
McAlpine Cayman LTD-Bank of Butterfield ;( 7 story concrete)
Role –Acting supervisor Forman in various role overseeing carpenters, masons, laborers,
MEPF ,as well as the internal fit out working with all sub trades and build a state of the
art 5 story bank and adjacent 9 story car park .The goal was to build the main building
then while the finish work was commencing build the car park to coincide with the
finishing of the main branch .The car park was finished well before the bank being
commissioned due to the detail on the 7th
floor executive quarters, end board wood floors
to Italian marble tile in the main foyer with the spiral steel stair case with glass
paneling ,numerous IT and sever rooms with state of the art climate control. Break away
fire shutters which had never been installed in any building in the Caymans until this
point which led to problems with fire commissioning not knowing exactly what they
were checking .As with all innovative projects there are bound to be hold ups you have to
work through them ,learn and move on. Lifting the chiller units onto the roof was trying;
we had to disassemble it partially to get weight down then engineer a lifting cradle, the
generator was also split in 2 and reassembled on the roof of the car park .Good logistical
learning curve for all involved.
McAlpine Cayman LTD-Coutts Bank (2 storey concrete)
Role-acting supervisor, over seen all aspects of bank refurbishment after hurricane Ivan
devastated the island in 2004 almost every structure required some amount of work this
was the exception which lost a few 2nd
floor windows and part of roof and had massive
water damage, so the building was gutted and after roof and new widows we totally
rebuilt the interior, including raising of filing cabinets on plinths. installed new state of
the art IT and video conference room, there are many demanding parts to banks specially
the IT and added security ,dealing with architects,MEPF,as well as the client and
4. Quantity Surveyors security ,IT,furniture ,relocating HVAC to a higher elevation
,repaving parking lot new lights ,retaining wall and all landscaping . All internal mill
work we did in house to Coutts specs. All aspects of developing a turn key building to
client satisfaction.
.
McAlpine Cayman LTD-Maxwell Roberts Building (Bermuda) (6 storey concrete)
Role- Supervisor and training staff in Bermuda on the theory and strategy on building
concrete structures using the German made Doka formwork system, site supervisor with
all the day to day supervision with all sub trades. Also taking into consideration the
health and safety programs and ensuring the adherence by workers to this program .This
was a very difficult job with size constraints, 1 side overhanging into side walk another
within 2 feet and the other sides were against the existing structure. We used one sided
forms and poured against the existing substrate working 20 feet below street level getting
cistern and mech rooms to ground level bringing everything we needed as we went with
no lay down area makes for a very tight job sight. The cores were external which allowed
for some very tight situation 5 stories with no external platforms only the top 2 would
allow swinging forms on the out side Bermuda took some thinking but finished on
schedule to the day.
McAlpine Cayman LTD-Bould Residence (2 storey concrete)
Role-acting carpenter foreman oversee the structure being completed on time and on
budget for a private 3 million + residence .This job I did all foundations and structure and
upon completion I was sent to Bermuda only to complete a 7 storey structure.
McAlpine Cayman LTD-Citrus Grove Office Building (5 storey concrete)
Role-received training from a Doka formwork manager from Atlanta had 2 weeks of
training then built a 5 story hurricane proof building for banks and offices in the
Caymans to be used as a backup after a hurricanes ,with full generation and water self
sustaining capabilities. This consisted of a main core area and external concrete walls
.This building was lived in by our staff during hurricane Ivan it was on of the strongest
buildings in Cayman and faired well through the storm the only real failure was the
designers not installing a cistern which we did later putting in an 80,000 gallon
underground tank.
McAlpine Cayman LTD-Kenneth Dart Residence
Role-To establish a pile driving crew to pile 1200 feet of the infamous 7 mile beach ,I
used 4 carpenters from my past crews to train on a hydraulic vibratory hammer that had a
force of 80,000 psi .Utilizing a50 ton mobile crane we were responsible for setting up the
pile horse and driving 25ftx4ftx1/4 piles to the cap rock which was achieved at a depth of
approx 20 feet with a 1 inch tow into the cap once achieved we attached 20 foot tie backs
to the wall on one end then attaching the other end to 3 ton concrete blocks for which
buried 10 feet in the ground ,then sealing the top of the wall with 3ft x3ft concrete cap
finished project 7 weeks ahead of the schedule.
5. McAlpine Cayman LTD-Strathvale House (5 storey prestressed concrete)
Role –this was a very different building than we were use too .The building was built
with perimeter beams with pre stressed concrete beams in the interior at 2ft centers with
a camber and would straighten after we poured a 3in slab .This was designed in the
United States (Florida) and shipped floor by floor. This was the first of its kind in
Cayman a great project and a lot of learning with the island not being trained on installing
pre-stressed beam floor system in the Caymans.
This is a list of projects which I have played a role in.
