SMD are world leaders in the manufacture of sub-sea vehicles operation predominately within the
oil and gas industry, covering four sites within North Tyneside utilising over 85000 sq ft of
production space, 40000 sq ft of office space and 35000 sq ft of storage space. As Facilities /
Development Manager I am responsible for the day to day operations of all sites with an annual
budget of over £3m covering all aspects, ranging from lease arrangements, rent reviews, service
charge, utility supply negotiation, management of all hard & soft services predominantly cleaning
and security provision, including man guarding and CCTV through to daily maintenance and
development and ultimately new build.
The role necessitates frequent communication and negotiation with directors, landlords,
consultants, architects as well as council officials and planners etc.
Having recently taken over responsibility for the management of Stores & Logistics as well as
Facilities I now have the responsibility of ensuring that demand is met for the storage and issue of
over 37000 product lines as well as the day to day management of 23 direct staff, setting and
recording and delivering aggressive targets and KPI’s.
2. Key Achievements / Responsibilities
• Strategic planning for SMD future requirements including potential relocation to purpose
built facility.
• New build 46000 sq ft production facility on time and within budget.
• Implementation of new security systems resulting in annual saving of over £35000
• Agreement of new 25 year lease on 10000 sq ft of office accommodation
• Refurbishment (£175000) of office accommodation including security and IT systems
• Establish FM dept and return annual savings of over £50000.

Facilities Manager, Lambert Smith Hampton June 10 to Dec 11
Responsible for FM within the Newcastle office of LSH a firm of national commercial property
consultants with clients such as Mapeley, Kwikfit, City & Northern Ltd, The Coal Authority,
Primary Health & Investments as well as Queens Street Shopping Centre -Darlington
Key responsibilities:
• Delivering FM solution to current client portfolio covering all hard and sort services within
retail, industrial, commercial and health care sectors;
• Relationship Development and Account Management - architects, quantity surveyors, building
control, suppliers and most importantly the client;

satisfaction;

3. Contracts Manager, BBNE Developments Ltd Mar 08 to Dec 09

Key responsibilities:
• Winning work – all aspects of Customer Development, from business development through to
tender preparation and submission;
• Management of direct labour (approx 25 tradesmen) as well as specialised subcontractors.
Key achievements:
Refurbishment
• Refurbishment/Development of Local Schools for Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council;
• Completion of £1.0m barn conversion into 3 residential units;
• Complex Community Housing Project - Total refurbishment of Whitehall Road, Gateshead for
Jewish community housing;
• Successful project management of £250,000 extension, whilst under continuous occupancy;

New Build

Building & Design Manager, Co-operative Retail Logistics (CRL) 1998 to Feb 08
Part of the Co-operative Group, CRL specialises in the storage and primary distribution for chilled,
frozen and ambient lines. CRL serves over 3,500 stores and manages the distribution of
approximately 15,000 product lines.
Key responsibilities:
• Successful management CAPEX budget in excess of £6.5m and revenue projects, delivering
added value for CRL;
• Management of internal and external key stakeholders, ensuring projects were managed from
conception to completion, on time and in budget;
• Management of FM and PPM of CRL estate across UK covering some 20 distribution centres;
• Delivering Health & Safety compliance.
4. Key achievements:
• Delivery of complex new build of two multi-temperature distribution centres in Coventry and
Thurrock, each in excess of 300,000 ft² with an overall budget of approx £20m per centre.
These depots were part of a major change programme designed to build a superior logistics
network which simplified the flow of goods, removed inefficiencies and created a platform for
excellent store service;
• Implementation of “green” projects including rain water harvesting and water recycling;
• Delivered a state of the art security system at Nottingham RDC reducing overall costs by £1.2m
per year, coupled with reduction in theft by over 75%;
• Multi-site facilities management of CRL estate covering all hard and soft services from catering
and cleaning through to building fabric, M&E equipment, HVAC and refrigeration plant;
• Implementation of PPM system across group property portfolio, ensuring systems and processes
resulted in better working environments and increased efficiency and productivity;
Development / Maintenance Engineer, AMEC Process & Energy 1990 to 1998
Responsible for all aspects of development and maintenance works to facilitate the construction
of large offshore oil modules. Civil Engineering works ranged from 4m high retaining walls,
10,000 m² of concrete paving complete with network of services chambers to piled foundations
and loading quay construction.
Construction - Managed a complete refurbishment of a derelict office complex and transformed
it into a state of the art head office facility.
Engineering Technician (Civil / Structural), Mott MacDonald 1985 to 1990
Gained a solid grounding in Building, Structural and Civil engineering. Responsibilities included
site surveys, drawing preparation, RC detailing, bills of quantities etc.
INTERESTS
Centered mainly on sporting activities including squash and football. I am an enthusiastic
gardener and have a keen interest in interior design/architecture and DIY. I enjoy assisting my
young children in their education and development.
