 Built servers from blank hardware layering the operating system, firmware, middleware and
software for production
 Used vSphere Technology such as VMware workstation for server cloning (physical to physical,
and physical to virtual) and upgrading a Virtual Machines guest operating system
 Quickly provisioned development servers using Microsoft’s virtual machine technologyknown
as Hyper-V
 Used Symantec NetBackup for disaster recoveryand folder/file restoration
Project: Build New Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (AD LDS)
 Created a new AD LDS environment on a Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system that had
built-in quality control mechanisms to ensure the data is accurate and replicated to member
servers
 Integrated AD LDS into production to be used by productivity applications for authentication
 Using ADSI Edit console snapin or custom scripts to modify attributes, schemas and database
configurations
 Using RegEdit console snapin or custom scripts to modify registry settings, add/remove
settings, turn-on/turn-off settings, enable/disable settings
 Programming in CScript, WScript, VBScript, KiXtart, Basic and DOS for automation of tasks and
jobs
 Wrote a VBScript to synchronize directories and check that the numerical marker of the updated
replicate LDAP data file is matched across all AD servers
 Scripted a file transfer program between servers that logged the name of the most recent file
copied and read
 Wrote PowerShell scripts to control log size, log rotation and log retention and user
logon/logout parameters
 Used the following directory management and maintenance tools; Get-ADObject, New-
ADObject, Set-ADObject, Move-ADObject, Get-ADOrganizationalUnit, Get-ADDomain, Get-
ADDomainController, Move-ADDirectoryServer
 Created and configured Group Policies to enforce standardized security settings and best
practices i.e. password complexity, resource access and object settings
 Mechanically populated and formatted Excel, CSV and tab delimited Text files which can then
be imported into Access and MDF/LDF files as a database for creating structured queries and
selective reporting

 Performed nightly site inspections to check places of egress and exits for obstructions and
ensure the data centre and cubicle offices are clear and safe before arming and locking the
front doors and leaving the premises
Project: Print Server Upgrade
 Migrated print servers from a MS Windows 2003 environment to a MS Windows 2008
environment
 Install new software role and features and configure print statistics reporting service
 Hardware upgraded to Dell blade servers
 Download and install new 64-bit and 32-bit printer drivers
Project: Forest Level Upgrade (Migration, Conversion and Augmentation)
 Upgraded all production servers, user profiles, computer accounts and other resources in a
forest and assimilated it into a domain in a larger forest
 This involved creation of a trust relationship between the Forests and creating new Domains in
order to maintain the integrity and integration of the servers and computers
 Prepared a new Windows 2003 Active Directory server to support the merged Domain's
feasibility - this process also produced a fully populated AD server that would not have
inherited any of the fragmentation from the old servers
 Extensive knowledge and usage of management tools like IPCONFIG, PING, NSLOOKUP,
TRACERT, PATHPING, NET USE, NBTSTAT, NETSTAT, NETSH, DSDBUTIL, NTDSUTIL, DSMGMT,
REPADMIN, DNSCMD, LDP, LDAP, LDIFDE, CSVDE, DCDIAG, NLTEST
 Managed DNS records, and the assignment renewal and scavenging process
 Managed DHCP records, and the lease renewal and expiration process
 Configured DNS forward and reverse lookup zones and DHCP address pools and delegation
 Used an imaging software known as Plate Spin Migrate to create exact copies of physical
servers and deploy the copies to virtual machines - this was a difficult operation that required
troubleshooting because the transfer operation would stall often and not resume
 This process involved booting the Virtual Machines into a pre-windows environment and then
establishing a single, secure connection to the Physical Servers
 The process then takes the direct attached storage and links it to the new Virtual Machine then
boots to a pre-windows environment that overlays the image to a new Virtual Hard Disk
 The process retains most of the original server settings but needs to be checked and verified or
even changed

 In many individual server cases the resulting VM needed troubleshooting and tweaking to get
its production software to perform as it should
 Implemented various Enterprise antivirus solutions including McAfee and Norton
 Worked with the software vendor of Quest Migration Manager to transfer email profiles, folders
and messages to new Microsoft Exchange servers - this was a complex undertaking because
the software required a great deal of configuration and intervention to troubleshoot hurdles as
they arose
 This procedure required that an independent server be built to house the migration software
and act as a bridge that enabled it to pull data from the source server and push data to the
target server
 Overcame network limitations like narrow bandwidth and reduced speed that hampered the live
transfer of data
Project: Build and Support Application Servers
 Built and configured an application server with the Secretariat reporting program for use by the
Legal department
 A server was built with Microsoft’s SQL application installed to hold static and fluctuating
information in its database
 When the proprietary installation guide was ambiguous and unclear the vendor was engaged to
assist
 Integrated the new application server on the network and confirmed creation of dynamic
reports and documents
 Conducted a classroom training session for all members of the Legal department to transfer
knowledge usage for the Secretariat application - this involved having 12 desktop computers
prepped with the application installed and network communicating properly with the back end
database server
 Continued to troubleshoot and support the application when users needed help or answers
 Built and configured an application server with the Crystal reporting program installed for use
by the finance department - this included working closely with a finance lead analyst to
demonstrate how the application operates and fix any performance or functionality issues
 An ODBC connection was set up with an Oracle database server so the application was able to
pull or push data for report creation and forecasts
 Provided after hours support for Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gatewayservice - this
allows employees to safely and productively use the Internet by providing multiple layers of

continuously updated protections against the latest Web-based threats, including URL filtering,
malware detection, antimalware inspection, and intrusion prevention.
Project: Remediation of Sever Performance Problems
 Investigate, analyze and diagnose network latency and bottlenecks with the following tools
Ethereal/Wireshark, Network Monitor and other performance analysis utilities
 Used tools like Resource Monitor, Performance Monitor, Process Monitor, Process Explorer and
Tasklist to watch, correct and tune servers for optimum operation
 Examine the history of a problemand research using various media to find the best way to
address the problem
 Write reports with my causes of the problems and recommended actions for resolution or a
work-around
 Respond to user concerns and react in a professional manner to clarify issues and provide
quick response
 Present and discuss technically about the measures on a weekly conference call
