Release/ConfigurationManagement Engineer II
 Concurrently managed multiple releases and infrastructure changes across 46
different platforms spanning 3 different business units in an enterprise agile
software development environment using both scrum and Kanban methodologies.
 Facilitated incident management throughout incident discovery, solution, and
execution to include organizing and conducting regular root cause analysis (RCA)
sessions and post-mortum action plans.

 Facilitated successful releases of code from development to production by

 Negotiated Release issues and schedules with internal customers and reported
status to Executives

 Migrated and simplified the SDLC from an archaic TFS implementation to a much
more streamlined Jira implementation. Consolidated 7 different tickets and flows
into 3 to cover all aspects from code review to the final production deployment.
 Spearheaded the design and implementation of an automated workflow using Jira,
TeamCity, and GitHub with gateways and checkpoints to mitigate high risk points of
the lifecycle.
 Designed a Jira solution to organize and consolidate environment refreshes (which
takes an average of 1-2 weeks to fully complete). Prior to the solution it was all
being done via emails and excel sheets.
 Worked with developers to utilize Jira’s rest API’s to create custom reporting
solutions for members of the executive team using 3rd party software.
 Customized Jira dashboards for VP’s and members of the executive team to give
them targeted visibility into their respective Jira projects (some involving more than
1 project).
 Implemented Jira to LDAP consumption to streamline user provisioning.
 Used a combination of Git triggers, post-functions, and validators/conditions from
within Jira to satisfy SOX/ PCI compliance requirements, business metrics, and
workflow automation.
 Worked closely with the compliance team and SOX/PCI auditors to get both
standardized reports and targeted ad hoc information quickly to reduce findings to
zero.

 Responsible for maintaining non-production configuration management and
troubleshooting in a Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS environment.
1 OCT 11 – 20 FEB 2012: KAPLAN UNIVERSITY, FORT
LAUDERDALE, FL
Senior Systems Engineer
 Responsible for the non-production environment working in the Release
Management/ Configuration Management department in an enterprise
environment consisting of over 1100 servers in an MS Hyper -V setting.
 Created environments originating from requests from the development team,
stage teams, and DBA teams with specific OS configurations (server 2008 R2),
virtual hardware, and performance requirements.
 Tier 3 and 4 troubleshooting of issues with the virtual servers ranging from
connectivity issues to migrations and template creations.
 Created customized templates working from MS System Center VMM 2008 R2
for each development team and DBA team in order to stream line environment
requests.
 Migrated numerous VMs from an old VMware GSX server into Hyper-V (System
Center) by creating a “virtual host” using VMware workstation. Installed
ESX on the virtual host and once completed, I created a virtual server within
the virtual ESX host environment.
 Other VMware GSX VM’s were migrated using the physical to virtual
conversion (P2V) wizard within System Center for a clean migration.
 Managed IP’s across multiple VLANs within the environment using Solar
Winds.
 Appropriated the matching VLAN tag to new VM’s into the environment.
 Worked directly with network operations to get ports configured on physical
switches in the data center for VLANs.
 Recommended multiple GPO settings which were later submitted to the
security department for eventual approval in order to make active directory
administration a little easier.
 Managed all active directory objects for the non-production environment to
include moving server objects, forced replication, and OU structuring
anomalies.

 Participated in multiple projects working with 3rd
party software vendors
(Varalogix and soft tech amongst a few) with many moving parts from design to
implementation and testing.
 Assisted Release Management with troubleshooting some deployment scripting
errors in powershell (mostly syntax errors).
 Provided tier 3 and 4 break/fix support operations on an on-going basis for the
non-prod teams in Chicago and New York as well.
 Experience with F5 load balancer configurations for application level load
balancing including setting up app pools, and troubleshooting load balancing
issues.
 Performed customized SQL 2008 R2 installation on an as -needed basis from
the database administrator team.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 20 FEB 2012 – PRESENT: KAPLAN UNIVERSITY - FORT LAUDERDALE, FL Release/ConfigurationManagement Engineer II  Concurrently managed multiple releases and infrastructure changes across 46 different platforms spanning 3 different business units in an enterprise agile software development environment using both scrum and Kanban methodologies.  Facilitated incident management throughout incident discovery, solution, and execution to include organizing and conducting regular root cause analysis (RCA) sessions and post-mortum action plans.

Alan Williams Page 3  Facilitated successful releases of code from development to production by proactively & reactively working with Executives, Product Owners, Development, QA and TechOps  Negotiated Release issues and schedules with internal customers and reported status to Executives  Conducted Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings to discuss and approve all scheduled production changes for both infrastructure and code releases.  Participated in daily operations calls to executive stake-holders updating the status of every in-flight and scheduled release over the next plus or minus 24 hours.  Scheduled and organized resources across several different departments and disciplines for each scheduled production release across 46 different platforms.  Lead cross-functional team to support each Release project plan and post Release/Change review  Provided Change and Configuration management for QA and other Pre-Production Environments  Provided Release services for agile scrum masters.  Owned the release processes spanning 3 different business organizations.  Migrated and simplified the SDLC from an archaic TFS implementation to a much more streamlined Jira implementation. Consolidated 7 different tickets and flows into 3 to cover all aspects from code review to the final production deployment.  Spearheaded the design and implementation of an automated workflow using Jira, TeamCity, and GitHub with gateways and checkpoints to mitigate high risk points of the lifecycle.  Designed a Jira solution to organize and consolidate environment refreshes (which takes an average of 1-2 weeks to fully complete). Prior to the solution it was all being done via emails and excel sheets.  Worked with developers to utilize Jira’s rest API’s to create custom reporting solutions for members of the executive team using 3rd party software.  Customized Jira dashboards for VP’s and members of the executive team to give them targeted visibility into their respective Jira projects (some involving more than 1 project).  Implemented Jira to LDAP consumption to streamline user provisioning.  Used a combination of Git triggers, post-functions, and validators/conditions from within Jira to satisfy SOX/ PCI compliance requirements, business metrics, and workflow automation.  Worked closely with the compliance team and SOX/PCI auditors to get both standardized reports and targeted ad hoc information quickly to reduce findings to zero.

Alan Williams Page 4  Responsible for maintaining non-production configuration management and troubleshooting in a Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS environment. 1 OCT 11 – 20 FEB 2012: KAPLAN UNIVERSITY, FORT LAUDERDALE, FL Senior Systems Engineer  Responsible for the non-production environment working in the Release Management/ Configuration Management department in an enterprise environment consisting of over 1100 servers in an MS Hyper -V setting.  Created environments originating from requests from the development team, stage teams, and DBA teams with specific OS configurations (server 2008 R2), virtual hardware, and performance requirements.  Tier 3 and 4 troubleshooting of issues with the virtual servers ranging from connectivity issues to migrations and template creations.  Created customized templates working from MS System Center VMM 2008 R2 for each development team and DBA team in order to stream line environment requests.  Migrated numerous VMs from an old VMware GSX server into Hyper-V (System Center) by creating a “virtual host” using VMware workstation. Installed ESX on the virtual host and once completed, I created a virtual server within the virtual ESX host environment.  Other VMware GSX VM’s were migrated using the physical to virtual conversion (P2V) wizard within System Center for a clean migration.  Managed IP’s across multiple VLANs within the environment using Solar Winds.  Appropriated the matching VLAN tag to new VM’s into the environment.  Worked directly with network operations to get ports configured on physical switches in the data center for VLANs.  Recommended multiple GPO settings which were later submitted to the security department for eventual approval in order to make active directory administration a little easier.  Managed all active directory objects for the non-production environment to include moving server objects, forced replication, and OU structuring anomalies.

Alan Williams Page 5  Participated in multiple projects working with 3rd party software vendors (Varalogix and soft tech amongst a few) with many moving parts from design to implementation and testing.  Assisted Release Management with troubleshooting some deployment scripting errors in powershell (mostly syntax errors).  Provided tier 3 and 4 break/fix support operations on an on-going basis for the non-prod teams in Chicago and New York as well.  Experience with F5 load balancer configurations for application level load balancing including setting up app pools, and troubleshooting load balancing issues.  Performed customized SQL 2008 R2 installation on an as -needed basis from the database administrator team.  Adhered to industry standard practices and procedures for all requests. 1 JUN 10— 31 OCT 2011: COURTESY COMPUTERS, INC., DAVIE, FL Senior Systems Engineer  Worked as a Senior Engineer in an enterprise environment (Managed Service Provider) with multiple locations and different environments, with direct client interfacing.  Maintained over 200 servers and 400-500 workstations as part of the professional services team.  Heavy experience with Windows Server 2008 R2 environment including GPO design and management, Active Directory work, and Windows Server 2008 installations from scratch.  Heavy experience with a virtualized server 2008 environment with MS Hyper-V and server core 2008 R2.  Moderate work with SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 R2 database platforms.
