I have used quantitative and qualitative methods to research into my target audience. I found them
helpful because it gave me an idea of what my audience is looking for in a new magazine and how much
they know about the indie genre of music.

The quantitative method I used for my audience research is a questionnaire that I handed out to 20
people. It was successful because I now know that most of my target would be interested in a new indie
magazine. Another important thing I found out by my questionnaire is that out of all the people I asked
their favorite part of music magazines is the interviews. This will influence my final product because now
I know it is an important feature of a magazine for my target audience I will make sure there are many
interviews in my magazine.

I also found my qualitative method of audience research successful. I held a focus group of people who
were the age of my target audience and enjoy indie music. Everyone in my focus group said that they
would like to see an image of a band or singer that they like to be on the cover of a music magazine.
They said it would encourage them to buy it because if it has someone they like to listen to on the cover
then they would want to buy it so they could find out new information about them or read interview.
Another important thing the focus group helped me with was they style of my magazine. Because my
magazine is about indie music they said that they would expect the magazine to be different and quirky
compared to other magazines. They said that they weren’t bothered about any specific colours they
would like to see but as long as it looked good this would tempt them to buy the magazine.
