I have asked this question to find out the whether there was a dominant gender
that was interested in the magazine or whether it would be equal. This would
help me to understand who my target audience is, I asked both genders. The
results came out at a similar number but more so female than male. This will also
help me when considering the colours I will choose for my magazine as they will
need to appeal to both genders. Although this information is useful there wasn’t
an equal amount of females and males that answered the questionnaires so the
female data could be biased.

I have asked a wide age range of people to answer the questionnaire to get a good
amount of feedback, 16-20 and 21-25 were the ages of the majority of the people
who filled out the questionnaire, this will help me in the production of my magazine
because in my initial ideas my target audience was 16-25, so everything that was said
from these people will be relevant to me and helping me in the production of my
magazine.

This graph shows me what my target audience would prefer the colours of my
house style to be. In the question, I asked which three colours would suit a
magazine cover, for an Indie music magazine. When designing my magazine cover, I
will use the three colours that the majority of people answered with. Having this
information is useful because it means I can use a house style that will appeal to a
wide range of people, instead of appealing to just a few people.
5. I asked the question, “name two of
your favourite indie artists”. This
graph shows what people said. This
information will give me a good
idea of what artists I can put on my
magazine cover, in the cover lines
and puffs. As well as the artists I
can mention on my contents page.
This information means that I have
a good idea of artists to use on my
magazine cover lines and contents
page. Using the most voted for
artists; Jake Bugg, Vampire
Weekend, The 1975, I can make a
contents page including my
audience’s favourite artists.

This graph shows how often people would like the magazine to be published. This
gives me an idea of what date I can put on the magazine cover. I found out that the
majority of people in my target audience buy a music magazine every fortnight. This
means that if I set my frequency of publication as a fortnightly publication, a wider
range of people might want to buy my magazine. This information is useful because
it means I can set a publication rate that people will remember and would go out of
their way to purchase my magazine.
7. I asked what people thought
would be an appropriate name
for an indie rock magazine. I
received a wide range of
answers, however some got
mentioned more than once.
These are the ones I will consider
using on my magazine cover. My
target audience came up with 4
names that came up more than
once: Clock, Fire Pitt, Brogue and
Streio. This gives me the
opportunity to chose from these
names. This information is useful
because it means I can use a
name that my audience will find
appealing.

These answers, again give me a list of artists I could use on the magazine
cover, in the cover lines. I could also use these artists on my contents page and
double page spread, its important that I have popular bands or artists on/in
my magazine to make it appealing to my target audience. This information is
useful because it means I can use the most popular artists, meaning more
people will want to read, because there will be interesting content.

This graph shows me what magazines my target audience are already reading. This
gives me the chance to look and read through these magazines, and pick out all of the
good features so that develop my own ideas for my magazine design. It also lets me
pick out the bad features so that I make sure I don't include ideas like these in my own
magazine. I found out that the majority of people that answered my questionnaire
already read NME magazine. This means that if I read through some NME magazines I
will get a few ideas that I can use in my own magazine. This information is very useful
because it lets me know what the people in my target audience already read. This
means I can use similar features in my own magazine making it appeal to a wide range
of NME readers.

I asked this question because its apart of the house style of the magazine, this wouldn’t
nessaserily be different for male or female, therefor applying to both, this would help
because its important to get the house style correct so you can portray the genre
strongly. I found out that the most popular font was font 3 on my questionnaire. This
information means that I can use the font that appeals to the majority of my audience.

I asked this question to see what my audience would prefer as the main content, I
asked this so I could get their opinions on the most interesting content for my
magazine. I found out that the majority of people I asked would prefer the
magazines main content to be, reviews, interviews and gig guide. All of these
features have the same amount of votes from my audience, meaning I have the
opportunity to use all three of these features, which will make my magazine appeal
to more of my audience. This research is reliable because I asked this question to 20
random people, meaning there are no biased answers.

I asked this question to see how often my audience already bought magazines, I
asked this so that it would give me an idea of how often the audience already like
to buy music magazine. I found out that the audience mostly bought magazines
every fortnight. This information is useful and means that I have two strong
pieces of information stating that the best publication rate will be a fortnightly
publication.

I asked this question to see what the main reason my audience bought a
magazine was. I found out that my audience were mostly interested in “gig
guides”. This information is useful because it means I can put the most
popular content, as regular content for my magazine. Meaning that the
regular content alone, will attract a wider audience.

I asked this question to simply see if what I was planning as the magazines
feature article, would be appealing to the audience. I found out that all of the
people I asked, agreed that this would be interesting for the feature content
of the magazine. This information will be useful when I design my
magazine, because it means when I design the cover. I can use artist
interviews as the cover page, cover lines. This will make the magazine more
appealing and will make people more interested of what the magazines
feature content would be.
