2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Resposibilities of a students
1. ‘Resposibilities of a students.’(Speech)
A very good morning to our dear principal, teachers and my fellow friends. I am Anisa
Yaakob, an ex-student from this school. First of all it’s my honoured to stand in of you all to
give a talk about ‘Responsibilities of a student.’ As in home, we have our own responsibility,
it’s also same goes when we at school we have our own responsibility.
In school we have our own community and organization we lead by the principal and been
helped by staff members, adults and those connected to the school. This is because we as a
student are the youngest among them all and to show we appreciate their hardwork all this
while. Besides that, we also need to respect our fellow students at all times to harmonize
and synchronize the school system which lead towards a whole new beautiful family life.
School property is a facilities that have been given to us student such as computer
laboratory, science laboratory, toilet, library, sports equipment and lots more. More
importantly all this facilities are to aid us for our education. That is why we need to respect
the school property and cooperate in keeping the school building and premises neat and
clean to let us stay fresh in school and keep our spirit up to study. By taking care of all that,
we now can ensure our safety at school.
Furthermore, it’s a must for us to responsible for our own words. Use accepted language at
all times. Our parents have raised us to be polite and tolerate to people around us. By doing
so, people will respect us and we will have lots of friends around when we know to
communicate properly. Teachers also will respect us and with that we learn to control our
emotion which leads us to become a better person.
As a student we must demonstrate honesty especially during exam because most of student
think of cheating during exam so that they can pass. Instead of that how learn effectively if
we cheat during exam? Besides obey all rules and regulation with respect to the safety and
orderly operation of the school, being honest makes us become a good citizen in the
society. To become a person that can be accepted in public in the future we must observe
the required school dress code policy as outlined and also to learn to be a person who know
how to appreciate time we need to be punctual attendance except in cases of illness,
excused absence or emergency.
Finally, ‘learn to respect, respect to learn’ holds this quotes to become a better student and
person. That’s all for now, I would like to excuse myself and thank you for willing to hear to
my talk and for your cooperation.
