The respiratory system of goats consists of upper and lower tracts. The upper tract includes nostrils, nasal cavity, and pharynx which warm and filter air. The lower tract includes the larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. In the lungs, oxygen and carbon dioxide diffuse between alveoli and capillaries. During inspiration, diaphragm contraction and rib movement expand the lungs. During expiration, relaxation causes air to be expelled. Respiration is controlled by the brain and responds to factors like carbon dioxide and temperature.
