INTRODUCTION
 Learning resources refers to any persons or any material with
instructional content or function that is used for formal or informal
teaching – learning purposes.
 It includes print, non print, materials, audio, visual, electronic and
digital hardware or software resources and human resources.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTING A RESOURCE
 It should support and consistent with provincial and local
program curriculum outcomes.
 Should be developed by competent teachers and meet high
standards of quality in presentation.
 Should be appropriate for subject area for the age, emotional
development, ability level, learning styles and social
development.
 It should have aesthetics, literary and social value.
 It should have a physical format and appearance suitable for
their intended use.
RELEVANCE OF RESOURCES
 Effective resources make positive connection with
learners knowledge.
 Clarify subject matter more easily.
 Skill development.
 Create interest
 Precision and accuracy in processing information.
 Create visual images which help in retention of learned
concepts.
SCOPE OF RESOURCES
 Apply knowledge and skills in everyday life.
 Develop environmental knowledge and problem solving
skills.
 Ability to make and raise questions, doubts and interest in
subjects.
 Individualized learning.
 Provide stimulation and encouragement for individual
construction of knowledge.
 Different resources provide new information.
LIBRARYAND ITS ORGANISATION
“ A true university of these days is a collection of books”.
SCHOOL LIBRARY- It literally means a store house or
collection of books kept in charge of a clerk or senior
teacher of high school staff.
 Library is regarded as one of the instruments of making
learning more effective.
“Proper use of a well equipped school library is absolutely
essential for the efficient working of every educational
institution and for encouraging literary and cultural interest
in students, even class and subject libraries should be
encouraged”

CLASSROOM LIBRARY
A classroom library is a collection of books, magazines and other written
resources within a classroom. It is an aggression of age appropriate texts for
students in the class.
• Sizable and attractive book shelves should be provided.
• Open shelves invite learners to browse.
• While planning shelf space, thoughts should be given to future
requirements.
• Bulletin boards can be set up in library.
• It should have at least one table and seven to eight chairs.
• Provide internet facility.
• Filing cabinets may be provided for storage of pamphlets not in display.
ORGANISATION OF SCHOOL LIBRARY
• Separate library under the charge of science teacher
should be set up.
• Science teacher should look to money and
accommodation available.
• One almirah with shelves or small room should be
provided.
• Reading should be encouraged, good reviews prepared by
pupil should be exhibited in school magazines.
• A cross reference index may be maintained to indicate the
information of read books.
• A notice board may be use to suggest suitable reference,
reading material, advertisements.
ADVANTAGES
 Slow readers with a little guidance learns to seek out books of his
level.
 Inexpensive.
 Explore new fields.
 Improve mental faculties, inspires spiritual qualities, build whole
personality.
 Make up good citizens for society.
 Remove superstitions.
