This research proposal aims to analyze shared leadership in a self-managing team through a situational approach. The researcher will observe a road maintenance team at Hamilton City Council for 4 hours per week over 6 weeks, focusing on their morning meetings. Informal interviews will provide context. A literature review and situational analysis guided by Alvesson's theory will explore how team members influence direction and relationships through interaction. Time constraints limit observation time but focusing depth on one team allows deeper understanding. The study seeks to give practical insights into self-managing teams and test the usefulness of the situational leadership perspective.
