The document outlines the requirements for a final paper summarizing a service learning experience. It states that the paper should include an identification of the agency, a description of its purpose and mission, a description of the work done by the learner, and a description of the area observed. The paper must also apply two organizational behavior concepts from the course to the agency and integrate a Christian worldview perspective. It provides guidance on length, citations, references, and a required verification letter from the agency.

will address organizational behavior aspects of the organization.
The learner will select two organizational behavior topics from
those we study in this course and apply the concepts and
principles of those two (2) topics to the organization. Suggested
areas for observation and evaluation may include, but are not
limited to:

• Details: The following points should guide the learner in
completion of this project. o The paper will contain 3,500 words
of content. The cover sheet, abstract (not required but may be
used), table of contents (if used) and references do not count
toward the length of the paper. o The paper, including citations,
references and general format will be APA compliant. o In
addition to the text and the Bible, the paper will contain at least
five additional references, two of which must be from peer-
reviewed sources. References should be from high-quality
sources such as peer-reviewed sources, trade journals and
business journals. While sources such as Wikipedia, e-How,
blogs or similar sites may occasionally be used, they will not
count toward the minimum number of references. o The learner
will obtain a letter from an officer or manager in the
organization verifying that at least 8 hours of service were
performed for the organization. The letter will state where the
service was performed and the nature of the service. The letter
will also contain the name and contact information of
organization’s contact providing the letter. This letter will be
submitted with the project. This letter does not count toward the
page content of the paper. o In addressing the organizational
behavior topics chosen, it is recommended that the analysis
include the following aspects (you don’t have to use them all,
but these are good places to start): A description of the topic (a
must) The theoretical foundation of the topic (a must) How the
topic manifested itself in the organization (evidence) Effects of
the topic on the organization Did the topic manifest itself as
what you read suggested it would? Does that organizational
behavior aspect propel or hinder the organization in achieving is
3. mission? What alternatives are there to the situation(s) you
saw? Was the organization using the Organizational Behavior
principles effectively? What evidence is there of this? Do you
have any recommendations for the organization based on what
you have learned in Organizational Behavior and what you saw?
• The paper will contain a significant section integrating
Christian worldview perspectives with the observations. In
addition to evaluating the OB situation or practice from a
theoretical viewpoint, the learners must also evaluate the
situation from the point of view of the biblical foundations
provided in this course. Learners must evaluate whether or not
the principle as practiced by the organization is consistent with
the biblical foundations (compare and contrast) and to evaluate
the potential change in effectiveness of the organization were
the biblical foundations to be employed. If the organization
does purport to operate from a biblical point of view, the
learners will evaluate the extent to which the organization
appears to be consistent with the biblical foundation in its
organizational behavior. At least 750 words of the final paper
should be devoted to this aspect of the project. • Specific
Requirements: (3,500 words, At least 7 sources, APA-
Compliant)
Research Essay
Much like how the “academic essay” and “magazine
advertisements” are just
different types of genres, a “research essay” is another genre –
but one that is
particularly valued at the University.
Task
For this assignment, you will draw on what you have learned
throughout the
4. quarter to write an 8-12 page analytical paper on a topic
regarding sexuality or
gender which incorporates research aspects. Your specific
research question,
and therefore your ultimate argument and thesis statement, will
be up to you.
For this assignment you are expected to reference at least five
pieces of scholarly
work, although you may feel free to use as many other
references (both academic
and non-academic) to support your paper. Your references may
include resources
we have used in class.
Helpful Questions – Brainstorming Springboard
The content we have explored together has been very cursory
and surface level. We
haven’t been able to cover anything too extensively, so this is
your chance to get
more in-depth!
• What is something that has come up in class that you want to
know more about ?
• Is there something connected to sexuality we haven’t talked
about in class
that you’d want to research?
• Is there an idea that has come up which you would like to
complicate?
• Is there an opposing or competing viewpoint to a topic from
class that
you’d like to research further?
• What do you feel connected with? Is there something related
to your own
life, or something you’ve studied in another class, or something
that really
5. interests you?
• How did you create a prompt for the midterm proposal? Using
those skills,
how can you construct your own question about gender or
sexuality that you
will then answer?
Proposal
To make sure you are on the right track, you will need to turn in
a proposal that
outlines your research plan and draft research prompt. Your
proposal needs to
include a basic explanation of your topic, a couple of references
you anticipate using,
and one to two sentences explaining how you will be utilizing
those references to
support your argument. You do not need to have a perfect thesis
set – remember,
it’s often easier to revise your introduction and thesis statement
after finishing your
first draft – but you should have a direction to focus your
research towards.
Things To Think About
• There are two primary goals to this assignment. First, to
explore a topic that
interests you. The second one is for you to practice researching
and finding
your own articles, including scholarly work. While this may
seem like an
artificial task, it is one that you will be required to do
throughout your
academic career – and one which will ultimately serve your
6. paper by
providing you resources for strong support and analysis.
• Your research prompt can evolve as you engage in your
research. Maybe
you start with something general (like “how does the media deal
with
sexuality”) and then end up with something more specific (like
“what are the
consequences for American girls from the objectification of
women in the
media?”).
• Make sure that you have selected credible resources as
support, not just as
filler (including at least five scholarly sources). Make clear,
smart
connections between the resources, your analysis, and the video.
Integrate
your quotations into your narrative.
• While this may feel like “Engfish”, do not write that way. Do
use a
vocabulary and syntax suitable for a college-level research
paper, but do so
in support of your argument, not in replacement of your
argument.
• Your audience for this paper is a college level professor
(myself) who, while
supportive of sexuality topics, requires convincing that you
have become an
“expert” on this subject. Be sure to be clear about how you are
making your
conclusions, and back them up with evidence.
• Use your works cited as a support, not just as filler. Make
clear, smart
connections between the resources and your topic. Integrate
your
quotations and paraphrases into your narrative arc.
7. • Work on developing your academic writing “voice” in this
paper. How can
you be intellectual, convincing, yet still unique and personable?
Format and Requirements
The final format of your paper should follow all the conventions
of MLA. Be sure to
follow the Style Guide to ensure that all aspects – from
formatting the pages, to intext
citations, to Works Cited – are done correctly.
