TRAILER
RESEARCH AND PLANNING
TRAILER DETAILS
• Genre: Drama
• Type: Theatrical – I think that it would be better to
create a theatrical trailer because they are a lot
more widespread and you can include more
footage that will entice the audience more into
wanting to watch the actual film.
• Where will it be shown: In the cinema before similar
films so that I am directing the trailer at the same
type of audience.
• Target Audience: 16-24 year old females.
TRAILER DETAILS
• How does the trailer relate to the target audience of
the film itself: The trailer will appeal to the target
audience of the film because it will contain
conventions of the drama genre that are most likely
to appeal to the audience. These types of
convention may include things such as:
- a boy / girl relationship
- slow music in keeping with the tone of the
trailer
- interesting and relatable storyline
KEY GENRE ELEMENTS
• A key point to remember in drama film trailers and
films, is to keep the storyline as realistic as possible, a
very strong sense of verisimilitude is needed in order
to create an effective drama that will appeal to a
lot of people and also relate to a lot of issues in
society.
• For example a good way of showing how you
should use storylines that are relatable, a drama
with a sub genre of romance is a good way of
explaining how you can keep to a believable
storyline. As an example of this type of trailer I am
showing 500 Days of Summer.
THE MAIN AIM OF THE TRAILER
• The goal of the trailer is to get people intrigued and
interested in the film and the idea behind it. In
order to do this I am going to give a fairly detailed
overview of what will happen in the film without
giving too much away. I am going to leave a lot of
cliffhangers to make people want to watch the
actual film. This is important to stick to because if
you give too much away in the trailer then the
audience will already know pretty much what
happens in the film and will not feel like the need to
go and watch the actual film.
STUDIO ASSIGNMENT
• I think that it would be a good idea to assign my film
to a studio company such as Universal, as they
generally create films that are meant for family
viewing and for audiences like my own. Films such
as dramas and comedies are generally produced
under this company because they know that they
are renowned for appealing to a very specific type
of audience.
MARKETING ASPECTS
• I am going to make sure that the themes that I
portray through my storyline are up to date with
modern society and the ever changing word so
that more people will be able to relate to my film
and therefore want to watch it.
• Going to make sure that the poster and DVD cover
are up to the standard of highly anticipated and
funded films so that I can show the various ways in
which I can adapt my own work to everything that
is happening in the professional media industry.
