The Lakehead Public Schools has developed a School Renewal Plan to address declining enrolment by consolidating and renovating schools. The plan proposes building new elementary schools in the north and south sides to house students from multiple existing schools. It also proposes renovating secondary schools on both sides to provide programs for all students. The school board is gathering public input through community meetings and surveys over the next few months before trustees vote on recommendations in October 2016.

Vance Chapman, St. James and C.D. Howe.
• One secondary school will provide multiple
pathways for success in a dual-track setting for all
north-side secondary students.
• Two options will be evaluated over the coming
months to determine the location of the
elementary and secondary school sites.
South Side Renewal
• A brand new, accessible, and well-resourced
south-side elementary school on the Churchill
CVI site will house students from Agnew H.
Johnston and Edgewater Park.
• Students from Hyde Park and Kingsway Park will
be housed in a single renovated and renewed
facility on the existing property.
• Westgate CVI will be updated and renovated,
providing multiple pathways for success for all
south-side secondary students.
