Research shows that the human mind is not like a tape recorder, we neither record events exactly as
we see them, nor recall them like a tape that has been rewound. Instead, witness memory is like any
other evidence at a crime scene; it must be preserved carefully, or it can be contaminated. A case I
would like to mention is the Calvin Willis Case. One night in 1982, three young girls were sleeping
alone in a Shreveport, Louisiana home when a man in cowboy boots came into the house and raped
the oldest girl, who was Ten years old. When police started to investigate the rape, the three girls all
remembered the attack differently. One police report said the Ten year old victim didn t see her
attacker s face. Another report which wasn t introduced at trial said she identified Calvin Willis, who
lived in the neighbourhood. The girl s mother testified at trial that neighbours had mentioned Willis s
name when discussing who might have committed the crime. The victim testified that she was shown
photos and told to pick the man without a full beard. She testified that she didn t pick anyone, police
said she picked Willis. Willis was convicted by a jury and sentenced to life in prison. In 2003, DNA
testing proved Willis innocence and he was released. He had served nearly Twenty Two years in

The Influence Of The Gothic Architecture Of Western Europe
The Gothic Architecture of western Europe served as a creative transition period following the great
era of Greek and Roman influences. Beginning in 1140 and lasting until 1350, Gothic architecture, in
an attempt to be closer to the divine, made structural changes that differed greatly from those utilized
by the generation before them. These changes not only brought their followers closer to god but they
also increased the structural support of the overall building creating a more sound foundation. As seen
in the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Amiens, which stood at a staggering 144, the use of these new
methods would allow the french architects to elevate their construction like never before. Unlike the
views of Modern society that associate the terms Gothic with a sense tenebrosity and turmoil, classical
gothic architecture was more symbolic of the Beauty and the importance of the imminent presence of
god that created a sense of openness that was developed with structural advancements aimed at
creating a more functional cathedral which would greatly strength the faith of an entire culture. Many
of the influences of Gothic architecture came from the man leading the frontier, Abbot Sugar. His
innovative ideas single handily lead to the development of a new unprecedented style of cathedral that
changed the perception of something normally perceived in a negative light and was able to make it
into something magnificent and graceful. Residing in France for the entirety of his

The Military Decision Making Process Essay
The Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) is an analytical and deliberate process that
commanders follow using seven steps that includes the receipt of the mission, mission analysis, course
of action development, course of action analysis, course of action comparison, course of action
approval and orders production. The MDMP gives leaders a thorough process to follow that provides
clarity and synchronization for operations even under time constrained environments. We need an
Army that is trained on making decisions, able to anticipate needs and able to be proactive in
accomplishing tasks even when unexpected duties arise. The MDMP sets the Army up for success in
getting to this point. Without the MDMP, leaders will struggle to make crucial decisions and they will
certainly struggle to make them under pressure during time sensitive missions.
Not just our own history but the history of other countries has shown that running military operations
without planning properly can result in inconceivable losses. At the National Defense Executive
Reserve Conference on November 14, 1957, Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as stating: I heard
long ago in the Army: plans are worthless, but planning is everything. The MDMP is a single,
established, and proven analytical process (US Department of the Army, 1997). The process is crucial
to our success not just because of the course of action (COA) developed out of it but more so because
of what we learn out of the process along the way.

Interpreting The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan and the Kloran
Thomas Dixon Jr. wrote The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan (or simply The
Clansman) which was based largely on his background in religion. He was a Southern Baptist
minister. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a Christian denomination based in the United
States. It is the world s largest Baptist denomination and the largest Protestant body in the United
States.
The Ku Klux Klan is fundamentally a white supremacist group that believes the Caucasian race is
inherently above all others in the eyes of God. They are well organized, to the point that they use the
Kloran as a sort of guideline for their rituals and practices. As a primary source of knowledge, the

United states. The Kloran was even copyrighted in 1917 (Jackson, 6). The Clansman works to justify
this divide by claiming white racial superiority. Since The Clansman there has been historical
evidence of the Klan s influence on politics and society.
Through propaganda and editorialized works of hate like both The Clansman and the Kloran, violence
is provoked through justification of religion. The Ku Klux Klan has operated based on numerous
agendas, all of which are based on racial tension. Most currently, The Ku Klux Klan (or simply KKK )

Two Forms Of Driverless Cars, Questions And Answers
I m for driverless cars because they can determine which route to take to reach the destination listed.
These can also help determine criminal activity made by their drivers. Most of these situations can
also help people stay safe. Most people could also program personalities into the car. Most times a
driverless car could have an AI computer chip in it, while others use the motion of the head. The AI
could be programmed to help check the destination and routes to the location to determine if they are
family friendly. The motion control, however, can follow the motion of the body and make
calculations to determine how fast to move and where to go. These two forms of driving can prevent
accidents from happening and protect people from reckless

Summary Of Charles Woodson s Wedding Speech-Humorous
Thank you, thank you all very much. Thank you. That s the happiest I have ever seen Charles
Woodson since he won the Heisman Trophy back in 97.
I cannot even begin to explain how honored I am to be mentioned in the same breath with some of the
most iconic athletes, like Kobe Bryant and Peyton Manning. This is something that I will treasure for
a very long time. I do not have much prepared, however, so I m going to speak longer than anybody
has spoken tonight. That is the way it goes. Time is very important to me. You never know how much
of it you have left, and there are some things that I would like to say. Hopefully, by the end of this, I
will have said something that will inspire all of you here tonight.
People always ask me how is your day, and nothing has changed. As Charles said, I am a very hard
working and passionate man. I cannot help it. That is being the son of Mufid and Safija Hajric. It
comes with a territory. We are committed and work hard.
When people say to me how do you get through each day, it is the same thing. To me, there are three
things that we must all strive to do each day. Number one is to have a feasible dream or goal of some
kind. Number two is sacrifice. To attain your goals, you must always sacrifice a little more in order to
reap the benefits later on. Number three is never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

when I see different statistics that insinuate that many high school athletes will not be able to pursue
their athletic dreams, it breaks my heart. What if I told you that only 7% of all high school athletes
will go on to pursue their sport at the collegiate level. I also told you that 33% quit due to a loss of
interest. And yet, we just choose to ignore it. Well, I want to bring it back on the front

Analysis Of Fagles s Antigone
While Ismene s language relies heavily upon a Northern Irish dialect, differences between Paulin s
Ismene and Fagles go further. In Fagles s Antigone, Ismene is a voice of reason in contrast to her rash
and hot headed sister. She advocates prudence as sensible . Paulin s work offers an Ismene translated
not only linguistically but also in personality. As this Ismene warns Antigone, she thinks only of the
punishment. Her concern is not that the two would defy the state but that they would die and in a most
unpleasant manner. Her speech emphasizes the concern for them rather than the state as she stresses
how we ll die and repeatedly speaks of what will happen to us . These lines clearly mark a point at
which Paulin chose fidelity to Ismene s Irishness over fidelity to Sophocles s politics. However, these
lines also raise questions about the nature of Irishness. Is Ismene s rational response, in the original,
inherently un Irish and untranslatable into an Irish context? And, if so, is Paulin suggesting here that
the Irish are the overly emotional and hot blooded people that stereotypes have made them out to be?
More than a simple substitution of standard English for Irish English, Paulin s translation raises such
questions throughout. As he translates, Paulin displaces Irishness, removing it from a familiar context
defined by Irish/English dichotomies, character stereotypes, and the trite settings and practices
expected of conventional Irish plays.

tourism strategies and methods could eliminate or ameliorate them and thereby secure the long term
future of the destination.
The negative effects of tourism are widely publicised in a number of destinations worldwide; however
it is often underdeveloped nations that are home to natural wonders of the world which attract huge
tourism levels. This is significant as these underdeveloped nations often rely on the tourist industry as

The environmental, cultural impact in the shape of damage to the temples can be explained by the way
the tourist experience is consumed in Angkor. The wearing of shoes and touching of the sculptures by
millions of tourists is causing huge erosion problems. We are very concerned by this unprecedented,
uncontrolled acceleration, which is damaging the monuments and the local environment. Teruo Jinnai,
UNESCO s top official in Cambodia ( Justine Smith (25th Feb 2007) Tourism invasion threatens to

Archaeological Park (n.d) Accessed March 25). Visible damage to the temples has arisen from large
numbers of daily visitors or short stays include congestion of facilities in and around the temples. It
can be argued that the cause of erosion and damage to the temples lies in economic and political
motivation of the Cambodian government to maintain and increase tourist revenue. The consideration
of thresholds and carrying capacity could to a great extent reduce such negative impacts as over and
consequent negative social and cultural impacts on the Angkor temples. Carrying capacity can be

All of us possess qualities that differentiate us from other human beings. These distinguishing features
could be more or less highlighted in appearance, mindset or capabilities, but they will always persist
and determine the nature of our personality. Unfortunately these characteristic attributes are
deteriorating as humanity is moulding us into the perfect person influencing us to stray away from
who we are (our so called insignificant selves) to what is desirable (a flawless model). Staying true to

as a result of an ad in a teen magazine and 63 percent trust magazine ads. As a result girls become
convinced that they require particular fashions to belong in a society that emphasizes materialism.
Moreover, most of the fashion, diet and lifestyle advice is directed toward being desirable to men.
Magazines stress sexuality as a central identity, minimizing all other attributes. The girls reading teen
magazines begin to digest and trust the message that they are only sexual objects.
Peer pressure is the influence exerted by a social group or an individual, encouraging other persons to
change their attitudes, values, or behaviours in order to conform to group norms. Peer pressure is most
commonly associated with youth, in part because most youth spend large amounts of time in schools
and other fixed groups that they do not choose and are seen as lacking the maturity to handle pressure
from friends. Peer pressure can also have positive effects when people are pressured toward positive
behaviour, such as volunteering for charity or excelling in academics or athletics, by their peers.

Types Of Standards And Protocols In Computer Network Systems
The documented agreements with precise criteria are standards. It stipulates how a product or service
should be designed or performed. Standards form the fundamental building blocks for a product by
establishing consistent protocols which can be globally adopted and accepted. For a device to
communicate over a computer network, standards and protocols gives rules that helps the hardware
and software to work together. There are different standards like ANSI, IEEE etc.The advantage of
TDM is as follows:
(i)When multiplexed between the signals there is low intrusion.
(ii)There is bandwidth savings.
(iii) TDM provide more flexibility and efficiency, by dynamically allocating more time periods to the

trading worldwide at US$6.40 is expected to rise given growing global fuel demand. The higher cost
of auto propane will also increase the price of the granite products that MNG intends to ship to foreign
markets. 3. The Canadian gardening market is heavily saturated, and even more so as the granite
business grows. With the advent of the internet, customers have more options to find cheaper
alternatives to MNG s products. This also means the company s market share is significantly reduced.
4. Language and social differences in potential markets act as barriers to business activities. Without
knowledge of the foreign languages, conducting business transactions becomes harder. The culture
differences make it even more complicated, since there are differences in business etiquette depending
on the country. 5. Balancing family time and business is also important for Mr. Hyland. Running a
business like this is time consuming and gets in the way of his aim for more family time.

Immigration Policy And The Immigration Sector
Immigration

Abstract
In this paper, I decided to analyze the immigration policy. The immigration policies have had a deep
history. The policies have been twisted, in the long run, to meet the demands of the time. However,
most of the times, the policies have been unfair especially in regard to the immigrants. The overview
contains a rich history of the policy progression and advancements in the immigration sector. In this
paper, I decided to extrapolate on some few contemporary issues that are as a result of the immigration
policies and laws. One of the contentious issues is the Visa policy. This is a system that is widely used
by the US government. Though formulated with a good purpose, the formulation did not cater for
everything that is associated with immigration. For instance, the immigrants who are on transit for
employment are not selected based on the employment demand in the market, hence, they end up
being stranded and thus are forced to accept low paying jobs with poor working conditions. The
solution to this is also discussed in the paper. I have also discussed on the open door policy and its
implications which include overpopulation. Overpopulation on its part has directly affected both the
immigrants and natives with many adverse effects. I was able to do research, and I consequently came
up with a set of alternative methods that could be of help. However, I have also discussed

Microsoft’s Antitrust Battle
I. Introduction to Microsoft
Microsoft Corporation was founded by William H. Gates III also known as Bill Gates and Paul G.
Allen in 1975. Since their inception they have been credited for developing various operating systems
to coordinate with the personal computer (PC). Microsoft possesses a dominant, persistent, and
increasing share of the world wide market for Intel compatible PC operating systems. Every year for
the last decade, Microsoft s share of the market for Intel compatible PC operating systems has stood
above ninety percent. For the last couple of years the figure has been at least ninety five percent, and

Microsoft combats piracy is by advising OEMs that they will be charged a higher price for Windows
unless they drastically limit the number of PCs that they sell without an operating system pre installed.
In 1998, all major OEMs agreed to this restriction. This has been called the Windows tax or Microsoft

Since investigations on Microsoft began the corporation realized it had a reputation to uphold as well

its competitors as being monopolistic. A monopoly exists when a specific individual or enterprise has
sufficient control over a particular product or service to determine significantly the terms on which

The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks By Rebecca Skloot
Thievery from voracious doctors. Discrimination from a segregated society. Suffering for the
remainder of her life. Each of these obstacles like a bombshell, altering the life of a poor black woman
named Henrietta Lacks. In the New York Times bestseller novel The Immortal Life of Henrietta
Lacks, author Rebecca Skloot reveals the untold and often unknown story behind the woman whose
cells helped create some of the most profound contributions in medical history. Born and raised in
Virginia in 1920, Lacks was a typical black southerner, growing up impoverished and recovering from
the aftermath of a previous generation of slavery. It wasn t until later in her adulthood when she was
diagnosed with a severe case of cervical cancer, which rapidly deteriorated her body as doctors
applied intensive doses of radium treatments. Before she passed away in 1951, doctors removed a
sample of her tumor from her body without her or her family s knowledge or permission. This tumor
sample was crucial to the progression of medical advancements, for the cancerous cells never died in
various mediums and became the first immortal human cells in history. Scientists were eager to
experiment with the notorious HeLa cells. Doctors made millions selling HeLa by the vial. The Lacks
family was uninformed for 25 years about Henrietta s legendary cells, leaving them flummoxed,

The Patient Will See You Now
HMO Book Report Poster: The Patient Will See You Now
Summary:
The book, The Patient Will See You Now, by Eric Topol, withholds an extreme amount of educational
value and discusses how the vast world of medicine can combine with the ever expanding world of
technology to make things such as medical information, diagnoses, treatments, and even prescriptions
at our fingertips. This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist who is trying to
better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at the same time. The goal that Dr.
Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is absolutely no need for one to have to
wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general population have to wait what feels like
hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment to be made when everything can be
presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such a fast rate that now scientists and doctors
can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or sometimes even days after they are discovered.
Since we have such high advances in the fields of science and medicine, people all over the world
(more than just doctors and nurses) should have access to know what these diseases do and how to
cure them the second that they are discovered. This concept seems something that would be nearly
impossible to achieve, but thanks to breakthroughs in new technology and silicon, this dream can
surely turn into a reality.

Aristotle on Courage Essay
In the 1939 movie classic, The Wizard of Oz, the Cowardly Lion is on a quest for the wizard to give
him courage. He is afraid of everything and anything. However, in Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics,
Aristotle believes that courage is possible for all individuals. To gain courage one must have the inner
qualities that will guide the courageous. The most important part of these qualities is to come to terms
with death itself. Also, there are views of courage that are falsely perceived because they appear to be
parallel with one another; nevertheless they are still very different.
One must have many different inner qualities in order to achieve courage. First, one must not be
concerned with death; death can be a beautiful thing. Aristotle ... Show more content on

Excessive fearlessness and exceeding confidence, nor exceeding fear and lack of confidence
(deficiency), does not make a courageous man. Aristotle talks about the courageous person, and that
person acts with the awareness of the concept of honor and expresses it in a manner that is
proportionate, knowing exactly what to really fear. Many different things can be frightening; one must
decipher these things the greater fear from the lesser for the sake of the beautiful. (Aristotle 49, Sachs)
To correctly aim at what is beautiful, one actively achieves moral virtue. The beautiful is the purest
form of beauty and Aristotle states that beautiful action comes from a beautiful character and aims at
beauty. Virtue aims at enduring fears and feeling confident with respect to rationality. Aristotle claims
that the courageous man may fear things that not everyone feels the need to fear, but he will endure
and overcome these fears and feel rationally confident.
To become a courageous individual however, it is crucial that one be able to comprehend the fact of
death. Dying is a beautiful thing when dying for defense and honor while facing real dangers that puts
one at risk. Aristotle writes, One would call courageous a person who is unafraid in the face of a
beautiful death. (48 49) This shows that Aristotle believes that the courageous person needs to stand
firm on their values or beliefs no matter what the repercussions are. If one so

The Role Of Autonomy In Sports
Review of Literature A sampling of sport participants was surveyed using a 2x2 achievement goal
framework with the intent of gaining an understanding of coach s support for autonomy and how it
complied with the basic psychological and motivational needs that an athlete might exhibit. Those
motivational needs would be divided into four major categories which are components of two major
halves, those four parts being, mastery avoidance goals, mastery performance goals, performance
approach goals, and performance avoidance goals (Weston, 2011). The investigators used a standard
deviation (M= 14.67, SD= 1.05). The results were collected, evaluated, then shared which highlighted
that the majority of those surveyed played multiple sports and those sports included but weren t

the world. The man who developed its charter and who died from exhaustion after his own country,
the United States, refused to ratify it in the senate . On November eleventh, 1918 an armistice was
declared in Europe. The President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, saw this as an opportunity
to form an international organization of peace. The league was brought forth to provide security
against future wars. However, the league did not fulfill the hopes of it s founders, it did not ... Show

The American President s speech was the force that leads to the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on
June 28, 1919. Conversely, after congress had voted, only three of Wilson s fourteen points were
accepted without compromise and six of the others were rejected altogether. The reason for this
uncertainty by the congress was because, the Fourteen Points were all couched in broad, rather vague
terms, well designed to serve their propaganda purpose, but hardly suited to the negotiations of which
in the sequel, they were to become the basis . Wilson wanted the League of Nations because he
believed that World Wars would continue to occur as long as each nation was responsible for their
own defense. Wilson wanted the nations of the world to stand together in the League of Nations, and
promise to defend the territory and freedom of any member attacked by another nation. Wilson
believed that in order to keep peace the League needed the authority to impose economic sanctions
against aggressor states but the League did not have any military forces to back up these economic
threats. He believed that even a powerful nation, knowing that it would face combined opposition of
all the powerful nations, would not go to war. In Europe, Wilson also met some confrontation with the
Fourteen points. The

Fast Food Advertising and Childhood Obesity
Fast Food Advertising And Childhood Obesity
A rise in obesity has been observed in the United States in the last two decades. Obesity is one
problem that gives birth to numerous fatal diseases, including but not limited to cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, and depression. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted a
survey and found that, More than one third of U.S. adults (35.7%) and approximately 17% (or 12.5
million) of children and adolescents aged 2 19 years are obese (Ogden, Carroll). One of the main
reasons behind obesity is the American s love for fast food. Fast food contains only a small proportion
of essential nutrients, and is loaded with unhealthy and non essential nutrients which do nothing but ...

The similar advertising bans already exist in some jurisdictions such as in Quebec (Canada) and few
Scandinavian countries (Dhar, Baylis 7). Sweden, Norway, and Finland have banned commercial
sponsorship of children s programs. Sweden also does not permit any television advertising targeting
children under the age of twelve (Role of Media). Quebec s 32 years ban on advertising to children
had led to $88 million annual reduction in expenditures on fast food and 13.4 billion to 18.4 billion
fewer fast food calories being consumed per year (Dhar, Baylis 2 10). Residents of Quebec have a
very sedentary life, yet their obesity rate is comparatively lesser than the US. These figures indicate
that the sanction on fast food advertisement can prove effective in lowering or curbing fast food
consumption in the United States as well. A larger proportion of the US population leads a very active
life. An active life combined with the proper and healthy diet may lead to significant reduction in the
obesity rates. Media and entertainment giant Walt Disney Co s has already banned junk food
advertisements during its TV, radio and other online programs intended for children under the age of
12 (Heavey).
Lawmakers and other opponents of this campaign may not agree to the effects of advertising on
children and may

Donald Trump And Sander s Influence On Political Maverickss
As time has passed, many changes have occurred; be it from farming to industry, or from writing
letters to sending text messages, change is inevitable. In recent years, a major change has begun to
occur, one that is finding expression in the political sphere. American society has started to turn away
from long established values of respecting tradition toward a more contemporary appreciation for
individuality and change. Political mavericks have become more successful in recent years due to
overall dissatisfaction with the current established system. More Americans have found themselves
discontent with aspects of the political sphere, such as the lack of third party representation, for
example. Political mavericks capitalizing on society s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

By not adhering to the traditional political rhetoric styles in his speeches, Donald Trump has caught
the attention of many Americans. Also, much like Bernie Sanders, Trump has made statements against
the political establishment, as seen in his commercial, Donald Trump s Argument For America. The
repetition and constant downgrading of the political establishment appeals to United States citizens
who are also dissatisfied with the current political system, and it was these appeals that helped Donald

National Alliance On Mental Illnesses
There are many organizations that have a huge impact on society, the one I chose to write about is the
National Alliance on Mental Illness, also referred to as NAMI. NAMI is the most popular mental
health organization. Members of this organization work hard to better the lives of those affected by
mental illnesses. The National Alliance on Mental Health has four priorities, those are educating,
advocating, listening, and leading. Mental health is a growing topic that is hard to ignore, this is
because organizations like the NAMI have offered many educational tools in hopes of teaching society
what mental illnesses are and how to help people struggling with mental illnesses. This organization
advocates for others suffering mental illnesses, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NAMI has shown society how serious mental illnesses are, if one of these many illnesses is left
untreated it can lead to even more serious things. Anxiety and Depression are a deadly combination
and unfortunately, 20% of the teen population experiences and over 25 million Americans experience
it every year. Both of these mental illnesses are hard to handle and often end in suicide, 90% of people
who commit suicide have a mental disorder and 50% of these suicides are caused by depression.
Every day around 121 people kill themselves and with society s help, we can end this. Also, both of
these mental illnesses can lead to eating disorders and other serious health issues. Once everyone
realizes how serious mental illnesses are, the more help these people will

Contrast Between Love and Violence in Shakespeare s Romeo...
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford upon Avon in the time of Elizabeth I. Romeo Juliet is one
of his most famous plays and has always been extremely popular in mainstream and in contemporary
media, mainly because the ideals and issues brought up in the play are still very valid in modern times.
The play revolves around the, aptly named, Romeo Juliet and their forbidden love and their struggle to
love one another with each others families, Capulets and Montagues, feuding with each other,
underneath the romanticism it is a story of a plan going wrong. I am going to analyse and interpret
how two very contrasting things; love and violence relate to each other in the play, the effect they have
on the characters and the events that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing that can be used as evidence to show this is a feud is the sheer length of the affair, in
which there is several fights with no sign of either side backing down, until the Prince shows up and
declares that if there are anymore disagreements there will be dire consequences, the fact of the Prince
getting involved also shows that the feud is a big thing, that, and the punishment of death if there is
another fight, shows this is a full throttle family war underpinning the whole play affecting and
infecting everything, mainly Romeo and Juliet s love for each other, everything would ve been fine if
not for the families feuding. Other, more subtle, conflicts in the play are Romeo s feelings for Rosaline
as well as Juliet, Romeo thought that Rosaline was a nice girl whom he could love, but she turned out
to be shallow and so he is sad, during this time he is questioned by Benvolio, his cousin, something of
note here is that Romeo seems to be expressing his thoughts on the conflict between the Montagues
and Capulets at one point he says: O

The Security And Privacy Of Citizens Essay
upon recently watching a movie titled Blow, I found myself asking how something like such could be
related to the embassy bombing events and others, like the bombing of the World Trade Centers, and I
quickly discovered that there are thousands of ways in which this is possible. In fact it is relevant
enough that the past two Presidents (Clinton/Bush Jr.) have drawn up plans to stop it and it appears
that America has an opportunity to tackle two rather large problems in one fight, killing two birds with
one stone per say. The only question left too answer would be what sacrifices will the citizens of
America be forced to make? Where will the line be drawn in the security and privacy of citizens. How
much are you willing to give up to lower your chances of being the recipient of a terrorist attack?

Individualism Vs Society, A Doll s House
Individualism vs Society, A Doll s House Struggle In the 19th century Victorian society, individuals
were expected to follow strict generalized standards for what is considered, acceptable conduct. With
his play, A Doll s House , Ibsen captures conflicts, especially for women, to abide by the standards
placed by society. While Nora the main character at first seems to fulfil her role as the perfect mother
and wife, she is eventually divided between her obligations as a woman, and her need to express her
true self. On the other hand, Nora s husband Torvald, strictly abides by what society has deemed
honorable and is only worried about the outside perception of himself. This relentless need to maintain
a façade impedes him to accept Nora s rebellious actions; and fears that her actions will turn their
family into outcasts of society. Ibsen portrays, through several characters in the play A Doll s House ,
the struggle of individuals to express their original true self in a repressive Victorian society, while at
the same time fulfill their societal expectations. Throughout the play, Nora experiences a
metamorphosis that will change her perceptions of a fulfilled life. At first, Nora seems to be the
perfect wife and mother of the Victorian society. She is eager to please her oppressive husband in
every way that he wants and dutifully cares for her children. However, Rahman points out that It s a
pretention of happiness and fulfillment, whereas her identity her true self

The Success Of Success At School
The average student in a developed country spends 17.7 years in school. Generally, their success
within these years of learning is measured by their grades and development but rarely on success in
their careers after school. However, despite what many teachers stress to their students, being
successful in school does not ensure a successful career in business as this success requires different
skills and personality traits. A narrow view is often taken where only western countries are compared.
When interpretation of evidence is more international, the understanding of data can change. There are
many examples of successful entrepreneurs who did not thrive in school based learning and just as
many failed business ventures headed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Business success is looked upon by professionals as personal success and satisfaction, financial
success, social prospects (charitable organisation), longevity, and customer/employee satisfaction. The
most relevant of these are financial success and longevity and these will be the references to business
success throughout the following paragraphs.
Being successful in business requires a plethora of different skills and personal attributes, vastly
different to those taught in schools. The majority of the skills professionals believe are necessary for
business are not picked up by students during their school years but are gained through real life
experiences. According to the Government of Queensland, essential business skills include managing
finance and staff, leading a team, networking, ability to comply with legal requirements, productivity,
marketing, communication, initiative and creativity. Skills such as basic written and verbal
communication are taught in the Australian curriculum, however many of these other essential
business skills are not. For example, the skill of being able to manage taxes and book keep for a
business (managing finance) is not taught in the curriculum for a year 10 student. The ability to take
initiative and make the most of opportunities is more about attitude and personality and is not
something that can be taught.
Although many teachers attempt to teach students these skills they may not

The Civil War On America
The Civil War was a big moment in history. Many Americans know what it is and have come to
appreciate it. The Civil war made big changes to America and society. Although things are not perfect
in America today, the Civil War effected society in a big way and changed many people over a period
of time. Thus, America was made a better place as a whole and improved drastically. The war started
in 1861 and ended in 1865. The Civil war was fought for many reasons and numerous factors caused
the war. For example, around this time period Northern, or free states had many differences between
Southern, or slave states. This included the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the
territories that had not yet become states 2 When Abraham Lincoln became President in 1860 he
pledged to the people that he would keep slavery out of the territories. In turn, seven slave states that
were in the deep South seceded, or separated from, the nation and made a new nation widely known as
the Confederate States of America. Many Northerners chose not to take the secession seriously and
failed to recognize that the Southern states were authentic about what they were doing. Though other
people did not seem to care too much, Abraham Lincoln did. He gave his First Inaugural speech to a
broken nation in March of 1861, the year the war started. One of the first things that Lincoln said in
his speech was that Apprehension seems to exist among the people of the Southern

Exodus Reflection Analysis
Exodus teaches Christians a significant lesson regarding the importance of living in obedience to God
s Word. The Israelites engaged in idolatry and rebelled against God repeatedly. As a result, God
allowed the Egyptian king to enslave them for many years, and they endured intense suffering for
refusing to be faithful to God. God showed compassion by sending Moses and his brother Aaron to
tell Pharaoh to release the Israelites. Yet, despite the many plagues that God caused, God hardened
Pharaoh s heart, and he would not free God s people. They struggled with being faithful to God.
Because they broke the patriarchal covenant, they encountered severe afflictions in the land of Egypt
(Exodus 1 11). God gave Moses and Aaron a staff and commands them to drop it in front of Pharaoh
when he asks them to present a phenomenal sign. Aaron and Moses approached the Egyptian king and
did as the Lord instructed, and the pole transformed into a snake. Yet, Pharaoh called his sorcerers,
and they threw their rods down. Pharaoh s magicians sticks also turned into serpents, but Aaron s
wand consumed their wands. Nonetheless, God toughened Pharaoh s heart, and he would not free the
Israelites (Exodus 7:8 13).
God orders Moses to confront Pharaoh by the Nile s riverbank and explain to him that the Lord sent
Moses and Aaron to release the Israelites so they may praise the Lord in the desert. God commands
Aaron to extend his staff along the Egyptian waters. When Aaron obeyed God s command, all

Malala Yousafzai: Fighting For Education
The right to education is one important fundamental that everyone should have the ability to have, but
most times that right is denied. Where I live; in a small town, everyone that I know goes to school, I
believe everyone has an opportunity to proceed into their own education. Some people don t take
education for granted and might not even realize the importance of it. There s many reasons why
people, states or countries may not take education seriously. Pakistan is one country that has the most
restrictions on education towards women. Malala Yousafazi is a young girl activist that stood up for
her people in Pakistan to retrieve the rights of education to women.
There are many countries where culture or religion can sometimes deny certain peoples right to have
an education, restricting them from going to school to learn. Those countries don t see the benefits
people can get from learning new languages, or learning their own history. One of these countries that
do such restrictions of education is Pakistan. In the country of Pakistan, some people think that there is
no use of education, it s unnecessary for girls to go to school and be able to learn. Instead the girls

Essay on The Sociological Imagination
My personal condensed definition of the sociological imagination is that it is the idea one should be
aware of the societal structures around themselves, and how those structures can influence a person
and vice versa. In addition, I think that having a sociological imagination also involves a deep
appreciation for the importance of society and culture. Consequently, for a person that has completed a
basic introduction to sociology college course and actually paid attention, I would hope that they have
been exposed to some basic taste of the sociological imagination.
Over the past three and a half years as a student of Sociology at State University, I believe my own
sociological imagination has grown exponentially, and I have been ... Show more content on

In regards to what Mills originally thought about this concept, he wrote that the sociological
imagination enables its possessor to understand the larger historical scene in terms of its meaning for
the inner life and the external career of a variety of individuals. It enables him to take into account
how individuals, in the welter of their daily experience, often become falsely conscious of their social
positions (Mills 1959:5). In many ways, Mills own definition of this concept is focused on shifting a
person s viewpoint of the world from a singular and individualistic ideal to a viewpoint that looks
more about the societal and historical view of the world, especially within the context of a person s
current placement in social history.
However, as I mentioned earlier, other sociologists have also formulated the same general concept that
Mills touched upon in his sociological imagination. An example is the work of Peter Berger and his
idea about having a sociological perspective. Specifically, one of Berger s key elements of his
sociological perspective as having involves a process of seeing through the facades of social
structures.... (Berger 1963:29). In addition, Berger believes that being sociologically aware allows a
sense of consciousness that Berger argues is a pre requisite to true freedom ; thus, he always thought
of sociology as a form of

Beam Project
The goal of the beam project is to design and construct a beam that can hold a given amount of weight
without breaking. The beam is required to hold a concentrated load of 375 lbf on the X axis and 150
lbf on the Y axis. The maximum allowable weight of the beam is 250 grams. The maximum allowable
deflection for the beam is 0.230 in. and 0.200 in. for the X and Y axis respectively. The beam is
required to be 24 in. in length, and it will be tested on a simply supported configuration spanning 21
in. All calculations are to be done under the assumption that the density of basswood is 28 lbm/ft3 and
the modulus of elasticity for basswood is 1.46x106 lbm/in2. Given the constraints of a spending cost
of $10.50, a maximum beam weight of 250 grams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When tested, the actual weight of the beam was 210 grams, the beams deflection on the x axis came
out to be .169 in. and the y axis deflection came out to be .137 in. In the calculations for the design of
the beam, it was calculated that the beam would weigh around 233 grams however it turned out to be
nearly 23 grams lighter. One reason why the beam may have been so much lighter is because the
actual density of the wood may have varied from the theoretical density. Since wood is a natural
product, it is not possible to determine the actual density unless the density was calculated
individually for each piece of wood which was not done in this experiment. The fact that the beam
was lighter than anticipated may have also accounted for a higher deflection than what was calculated.
The deflection of the beam was expected to be .1086 in. with a 20% safety factor included however
the actual deflection ended up being .169 in. which could have been caused by the fact that the wood
was not as dense as expected. It may have been possible to achieve a higher efficiency factor by using
a different proposed beam that weighed less than the one used however that would have risked a
significant increase in the deflection. It also would have been possible to achieve a lower deflection
however that would potentially lower the efficiency factor because it would have required larger,
heavier pieces of lumber. The fact that the materials used for the project were limited to coming from
the 1201 lumber yard and the fact that the modulus of elasticity and density of the wood were assumed
could all be reasons as to why there were differences between the theoretical and experimental values.
One way in which it may have been possible to achieve test results that were closer to the calculated
results would have been to calculate the true density of the wood. Another way to possibly enhance

School To Prison Pipeline Essay
The School to Prison Pipeline is a national trend wherein children are funneled out of public schools
and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems ( School to Prison Pipeline ). This phenomenon
brings children into the juvenile justice system at a very young age. An article published in the journal
Urban Education explains that, The school to prison pipeline contributes to the atmosphere of
increased surveillance of schools including police presence in schools, zero tolerance policies,
physical restraint tactics, and automatic consequence policies, resulting in suspensions from school
(Martin, Beese 2015). By increasing police presence in schools, children are more likely to be
searched, questioned, or targeted by police than they would be without police present. And as a result,
children are far more likely to be subject to school based arrests the majority of which are for
nonviolent offenses, such as disruptive behavior than they were a generation ago ( School to Prison
Pipeline ). For example, if a child was misbehaving in class in a school that had a police presence,
they could possibly get arrested and sent to prison. But if a child was acting the same way in a school
that did not have any police presence, they would not be arrested. Police would most likely be present
in a school in an urban environment or poor neighborhood because more crime occurs in urban and
poor places, so in theory, by placing police in schools, they would be preventing any crimes

in today s tight economy. If you need to save money, does that mean that you have to get rid of your
healthy organic food? You can eat organic food, even if you are on a budget. There are several
strategies that smart shoppers use to maintain a healthy diet during lean times.
Shop in Season
Just like all types of produce, certain organic foods are priced lower, depending on the season. Buy
your organic produce in its prime production season to get the cheapest prices. Strawberries, for
example, are being grown at their peak in late spring and early summer. Oranges are at their prime in
the fall months. During summer, you should be purchasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There may be an organic line offered by your local grocery store. In addition, almost all health food
stores offer organic items, including basic produce. Finally, don t forget to check local ethnic groceries
in you area to see what organic items they may carry.
Ordering Organic Online
If you regularly use organic products that are prepackaged, consider shopping for organic food online.
Many sites offer reasonable, or free, shipping and will ship items as varied as pasta, cereals and other
non perishables. For those on a budget, this option can save a lot over buying locally. You may get
further discounts for buying in quantity, so consider stocking up or sharing an order with a friend.
Don t Forget to Garden
Even if you don t have a lot of available variety for buying organic food on a budget, you likely have a
little patch of dirt that you can take advantage of. The fresher your food is, the better it is for you.
Nothing is as fresh as picking your own produce right in your back yard. Gardening is probably the
most budget friendly way to get top quality organic food. For the price of seeds and compost, you can
have an entire season of abundant and naturally grown produce. Since you know exactly what has
gone into your backyard garden, you can be certain that everything is up to your standards and no
pesticides were used in producing your organic

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research shows that the human mind is not like a tape recorder, we neither record events exactly as we see them, nor recall them like a tape that has been rewound. Instead, witness memory is like any other evidence at a crime scene; it must be preserved carefully, or it can be contaminated. A case I would like to mention is the Calvin Willis Case. One night in 1982, three young girls were sleeping alone in a Shreveport, Louisiana home when a man in cowboy boots came into the house and raped the oldest girl, who was Ten years old. When police started to investigate the rape, the three girls all remembered the attack differently. One police report said the Ten year old victim didn t see her attacker s face. Another report which wasn t introduced at trial said she identified Calvin Willis, who lived in the neighbourhood. The girl s mother testified at trial that neighbours had mentioned Willis s name when discussing who might have committed the crime. The victim testified that she was shown photos and told to pick the man without a full beard. She testified that she didn t pick anyone, police said she picked Willis. Willis was convicted by a jury and sentenced to life in prison. In 2003, DNA

  • 4. The Influence Of The Gothic Architecture Of Western Europe The Gothic Architecture of western Europe served as a creative transition period following the great era of Greek and Roman influences. Beginning in 1140 and lasting until 1350, Gothic architecture, in an attempt to be closer to the divine, made structural changes that differed greatly from those utilized by the generation before them. These changes not only brought their followers closer to god but they also increased the structural support of the overall building creating a more sound foundation. As seen in the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Amiens, which stood at a staggering 144, the use of these new methods would allow the french architects to elevate their construction like never before. Unlike the views of Modern society that associate the terms Gothic with a sense tenebrosity and turmoil, classical gothic architecture was more symbolic of the Beauty and the importance of the imminent presence of god that created a sense of openness that was developed with structural advancements aimed at creating a more functional cathedral which would greatly strength the faith of an entire culture. Many of the influences of Gothic architecture came from the man leading the frontier, Abbot Sugar. His innovative ideas single handily lead to the development of a new unprecedented style of cathedral that changed the perception of something normally perceived in a negative light and was able to make it into something magnificent and graceful. Residing in France for the entirety of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Military Decision Making Process Essay The Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) is an analytical and deliberate process that commanders follow using seven steps that includes the receipt of the mission, mission analysis, course of action development, course of action analysis, course of action comparison, course of action approval and orders production. The MDMP gives leaders a thorough process to follow that provides clarity and synchronization for operations even under time constrained environments. We need an Army that is trained on making decisions, able to anticipate needs and able to be proactive in accomplishing tasks even when unexpected duties arise. The MDMP sets the Army up for success in getting to this point. Without the MDMP, leaders will struggle to make crucial decisions and they will certainly struggle to make them under pressure during time sensitive missions. Not just our own history but the history of other countries has shown that running military operations without planning properly can result in inconceivable losses. At the National Defense Executive Reserve Conference on November 14, 1957, Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as stating: I heard long ago in the Army: plans are worthless, but planning is everything. The MDMP is a single, established, and proven analytical process (US Department of the Army, 1997). The process is crucial to our success not just because of the course of action (COA) developed out of it but more so because of what we learn out of the process along the way. ... • 6. Interpreting The Clansm A Historical Romance Of The Ku... Interpreting The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan and the Kloran Thomas Dixon Jr. wrote The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan (or simply The Clansman) which was based largely on his background in religion. He was a Southern Baptist minister. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a Christian denomination based in the United States. It is the world s largest Baptist denomination and the largest Protestant body in the United States. The Ku Klux Klan is fundamentally a white supremacist group that believes the Caucasian race is inherently above all others in the eyes of God. They are well organized, to the point that they use the Kloran as a sort of guideline for their rituals and practices. As a primary source of knowledge, the Kloran Both socially and politically, the Ku Klux Klan has inspired racism and civic divide in the United states. The Kloran was even copyrighted in 1917 (Jackson, 6). The Clansman works to justify this divide by claiming white racial superiority. Since The Clansman there has been historical evidence of the Klan s influence on politics and society. Through propaganda and editorialized works of hate like both The Clansman and the Kloran, violence is provoked through justification of religion. The Ku Klux Klan has operated based on numerous agendas, all of which are based on racial tension. These can also help determine criminal activity made by their drivers. Most of these situations can also help people stay safe. Most people could also program personalities into the car. Most times a driverless car could have an AI computer chip in it, while others use the motion of the head. The AI could be programmed to help check the destination and routes to the location to determine if they are family friendly. The motion control, however, can follow the motion of the body and make calculations to determine how fast to move and where to go. • 8. Summary Of Charles Woodson s Wedding Speech-Humorous Thank you, thank you all very much. Thank you. That s the happiest I have ever seen Charles Woodson since he won the Heisman Trophy back in 97. I cannot even begin to explain how honored I am to be mentioned in the same breath with some of the most iconic athletes, like Kobe Bryant and Peyton Manning. This is something that I will treasure for a very long time. I do not have much prepared, however, so I m going to speak longer than anybody has spoken tonight. That is the way it goes. Time is very important to me. You never know how much of it you have left, and there are some things that I would like to say. Hopefully, by the end of this, I will have said something that will inspire all of you here tonight. People always ask me how is your day, and nothing has changed. As Charles said, I am a very hard working and passionate man. I cannot help it. That is being the son of Mufid and Safija Hajric. It comes with a territory. We are committed and work hard. When people say to me how do you get through each day, it is the same thing. To me, there are three things that we must all strive to do each day. Number one is to have a feasible dream or goal of some kind. Number two is sacrifice. To attain your goals, you must always sacrifice a little more in order to reap the benefits later on. Number three is never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I would like to be able to do is to help other young athletes find their passion and explore it. What if I told you that only 7% of all high school athletes will go on to pursue their sport at the collegiate level. I also told you that 33% quit due to a loss of interest. • 9. Analysis Of Fagles s Antigone While Ismene s language relies heavily upon a Northern Irish dialect, differences between Paulin s Ismene and Fagles go further. In Fagles s Antigone, Ismene is a voice of reason in contrast to her rash and hot headed sister. She advocates prudence as sensible . Paulin s work offers an Ismene translated not only linguistically but also in personality. As this Ismene warns Antigone, she thinks only of the punishment. Her concern is not that the two would defy the state but that they would die and in a most unpleasant manner. Her speech emphasizes the concern for them rather than the state as she stresses how we ll die and repeatedly speaks of what will happen to us . These lines clearly mark a point at which Paulin chose fidelity to Ismene s Irishness over fidelity to Sophocles s politics. However, these lines also raise questions about the nature of Irishness. Is Ismene s rational response, in the original, inherently un Irish and untranslatable into an Irish context? And, if so, is Paulin suggesting here that the Irish are the overly emotional and hot blooded people that stereotypes have made them out to be? More than a simple substitution of standard English for Irish English, Paulin s translation raises such questions throughout. As he translates, Paulin displaces Irishness, removing it from a familiar context defined by Irish/English dichotomies, character stereotypes, and the trite settings and practices expected of conventional Irish plays. ... The negative effects of tourism are widely publicised in a number of destinations worldwide; however it is often underdeveloped nations that are home to natural wonders of the world which attract huge tourism levels. Immigration Policy And The Immigration Sector Immigration PAD 3034 Juan Sarmiento Florida International University July 9th, 2015 Abstract In this paper, I decided to analyze the immigration policy. The immigration policies have had a deep history. The policies have been twisted, in the long run, to meet the demands of the time. However, most of the times, the policies have been unfair especially in regard to the immigrants. The overview contains a rich history of the policy progression and advancements in the immigration sector. In this paper, I decided to extrapolate on some few contemporary issues that are as a result of the immigration policies and laws. One of the contentious issues is the Visa policy. This is a system that is widely used by the US government. Though formulated with a good purpose, the formulation did not cater for everything that is associated with immigration. For instance, the immigrants who are on transit for employment are not selected based on the employment demand in the market, hence, they end up being stranded and thus are forced to accept low paying jobs with poor working conditions. The solution to this is also discussed in the paper. I have also discussed on the open door policy and its implications which include overpopulation. Overpopulation on its part has directly affected both the immigrants and natives with many adverse effects. I was able to do research, and I consequently came up with a set of alternative methods that could be of help. However, I have also discussed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist who is trying to better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at the same time. The goal that Dr. Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is absolutely no need for one to have to wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general population have to wait what feels like hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment to be made when everything can be presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such a fast rate that now scientists and doctors can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or sometimes even days after they are discovered. Since we have such high advances in the fields of science and medicine, people all over the world (more than just doctors and nurses) should have access to know what these diseases do and how to cure them the second that they are discovered. Many different things can be frightening; one must decipher these things the greater fear from the lesser for the sake of the beautiful. The beautiful is the purest form of beauty and Aristotle states that beautiful action comes from a beautiful character and aims at beauty. Virtue aims at enduring fears and feeling confident with respect to rationality. In turn, seven slave states that were in the deep South seceded, or separated from, the nation and made a new nation widely known as the Confederate States of America. Many Northerners chose not to take the secession seriously and failed to recognize that the Southern states were authentic about what they were doing. Though other people did not seem to care too much, Abraham Lincoln did. He gave his First Inaugural speech to a broken nation in March of 1861, the year the war started. One of the first things that Lincoln said in his speech was that Apprehension seems to exist among the people of the Southern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Exodus Reflection Analysis Exodus teaches Christians a significant lesson regarding the importance of living in obedience to God s Word. The Israelites engaged in idolatry and rebelled against God repeatedly. As a result, God allowed the Egyptian king to enslave them for many years, and they endured intense suffering for refusing to be faithful to God. God showed compassion by sending Moses and his brother Aaron to tell Pharaoh to release the Israelites. Yet, despite the many plagues that God caused, God hardened Pharaoh s heart, and he would not free God s people. They struggled with being faithful to God. Because they broke the patriarchal covenant, they encountered severe afflictions in the land of Egypt (Exodus 1 11). God gave Moses and Aaron a staff and commands them to drop it in front of Pharaoh when he asks them to present a phenomenal sign. Aaron and Moses approached the Egyptian king and did as the Lord instructed, and the pole transformed into a snake. Yet, Pharaoh called his sorcerers, and they threw their rods down. Pharaoh s magicians sticks also turned into serpents, but Aaron s wand consumed their wands. Nonetheless, God toughened Pharaoh s heart, and he would not free the Israelites (Exodus 7:8 13). God orders Moses to confront Pharaoh by the Nile s riverbank and explain to him that the Lord sent Moses and Aaron to release the Israelites so they may praise the Lord in the desert. God commands Aaron to extend his staff along the Egyptian waters. When Aaron obeyed God s command, all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research Paper On Malala Yousafazi Malala Yousafzai: Fighting For Education The right to education is one important fundamental that everyone should have the ability to have, but most times that right is denied. Where I live; in a small town, everyone that I know goes to school, I believe everyone has an opportunity to proceed into their own education. Some people don t take education for granted and might not even realize the importance of it. There s many reasons why people, states or countries may not take education seriously. Pakistan is one country that has the most restrictions on education towards women. Malala Yousafazi is a young girl activist that stood up for her people in Pakistan to retrieve the rights of education to women. There are many countries where culture or religion can sometimes deny certain peoples right to have an education, restricting them from going to school to learn. Those countries don t see the benefits people can get from learning new languages, or learning their own history. One of these countries that do such restrictions of education is Pakistan. In the country of Pakistan, some people think that there is no use of education, it s unnecessary for girls to go to school and be able to learn. • 36. Essay on The Sociological Imagination My personal condensed definition of the sociological imagination is that it is the idea one should be aware of the societal structures around themselves, and how those structures can influence a person and vice versa. In addition, I think that having a sociological imagination also involves a deep appreciation for the importance of society and culture. Consequently, for a person that has completed a basic introduction to sociology college course and actually paid attention, I would hope that they have been exposed to some basic taste of the sociological imagination. Over the past three and a half years as a student of Sociology at State University, I believe my own sociological imagination has grown exponentially, and I have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In regards to what Mills originally thought about this concept, he wrote that the sociological imagination enables its possessor to understand the larger historical scene in terms of its meaning for the inner life and the external career of a variety of individuals. It enables him to take into account how individuals, in the welter of their daily experience, often become falsely conscious of their social positions (Mills 1959:5). In many ways, Mills own definition of this concept is focused on shifting a person s viewpoint of the world from a singular and individualistic ideal to a viewpoint that looks more about the societal and historical view of the world, especially within the context of a person s current placement in social history. However, as I mentioned earlier, other sociologists have also formulated the same general concept that Mills touched upon in his sociological imagination. An example is the work of Peter Berger and his idea about having a sociological perspective. Specifically, one of Berger s key elements of his sociological perspective as having involves a process of seeing through the facades of social structures.... (Berger 1963:29). In addition, Berger believes that being sociologically aware allows a sense of consciousness that Berger argues is a pre requisite to true freedom ; thus, he always thought of sociology as a form of ... • 37. Beam Project The goal of the beam project is to design and construct a beam that can hold a given amount of weight without breaking. The beam is required to hold a concentrated load of 375 lbf on the X axis and 150 lbf on the Y axis. The maximum allowable weight of the beam is 250 grams. The maximum allowable deflection for the beam is 0.230 in. and 0.200 in. for the X and Y axis respectively. The beam is required to be 24 in. in length, and it will be tested on a simply supported configuration spanning 21 in. All calculations are to be done under the assumption that the density of basswood is 28 lbm/ft3 and the modulus of elasticity for basswood is 1.46x106 lbm/in2. Given the constraints of a spending cost of $10.50, a maximum beam weight of 250 grams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When tested, the actual weight of the beam was 210 grams, the beams deflection on the x axis came out to be .169 in. and the y axis deflection came out to be .137 in. In the calculations for the design of the beam, it was calculated that the beam would weigh around 233 grams however it turned out to be nearly 23 grams lighter. One reason why the beam may have been so much lighter is because the actual density of the wood may have varied from the theoretical density. Since wood is a natural product, it is not possible to determine the actual density unless the density was calculated individually for each piece of wood which was not done in this experiment. The fact that the beam was lighter than anticipated may have also accounted for a higher deflection than what was calculated. The deflection of the beam was expected to be .1086 in. with a 20% safety factor included however the actual deflection ended up being .169 in. which could have been caused by the fact that the wood was not as dense as expected. It may have been possible to achieve a higher efficiency factor by using a different proposed beam that weighed less than the one used however that would have risked a significant increase in the deflection. It also would have been possible to achieve a lower deflection however that would potentially lower the efficiency factor because it would have required larger, heavier pieces of lumber. The fact that the materials used for the project were limited to coming from the 1201 lumber yard and the fact that the modulus of elasticity and density of the wood were assumed could all be reasons as to why there were differences between the theoretical and experimental values. One way in which it may have been possible to achieve test results that were closer to the calculated results would have been to calculate the true density of the wood. Another way to possibly enhance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. School To Prison Pipeline Essay The School to Prison Pipeline is a national trend wherein children are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems ( School to Prison Pipeline ). This phenomenon brings children into the juvenile justice system at a very young age. An article published in the journal Urban Education explains that, The school to prison pipeline contributes to the atmosphere of increased surveillance of schools including police presence in schools, zero tolerance policies, physical restraint tactics, and automatic consequence policies, resulting in suspensions from school (Martin, Beese 2015). By increasing police presence in schools, children are more likely to be searched, questioned, or targeted by police than they would be without police present. And as a result, children are far more likely to be subject to school based arrests the majority of which are for nonviolent offenses, such as disruptive behavior than they were a generation ago ( School to Prison Pipeline ). For example, if a child was misbehaving in class in a school that had a police presence, they could possibly get arrested and sent to prison. But if a child was acting the same way in a school that did not have any police presence, they would not be arrested. Police would most likely be present in a school in an urban environment or poor neighborhood because more crime occurs in urban and poor places, so in theory, by placing police in schools, they would be preventing any crimes ...
