New Brutalism
In the following years, the Smithson and Banham would make several more remarks on New
Brutalism. All these later remarks, as demonstrated by recent scholarships, only created an even
more murky definition of New Brutalism. More than a decade after the initial surge of writings, the
New Brutalism debates was reignited following Banham s 1966 publication New Brutalism: Ethics
or Aesthetic. It was also at this moment that the Smithson reinstated the importance of Crosby s
contribution to the New Brutalism discourse and distant themselves from the interpretation offered
by Reyner Banham. In 1973, Alison and Peter Smithson published Without Rhetoric; an

(FIG.4) The proposed building was a space frame construction that was common to their works of
the period. What was notable about the Milbank project was that the Smithsons created a series of
drawings that looked like Japanese scrolls for the competition. The building was presented, with its
structural elements exposed, in an isometric view an apparent reference to oriental paintings. There
was no furniture or interior fitting in the illustrations; instead one could only find scattered Japanese
figures dressed in traditional Kimono along the scroll. Not unlike in their New Brutalism article, the
Smithsons took pride in their superficial understanding of Japanese culture: they declared that the
ancient Japanese figures were cut out from a postcard from the Victoria and Albert Museum. In the
description of the project, the Smithsons made reference again to the idea of

Sympathy And The Boston Massacre
Points of views are majorly impacted by different words, actions and even locations. This is
important in order to understand all the sides of a story. Meaning, that on March 5th, 1770, when
colonists and soldiers gathered on King s street, America and Britain went to the media to present
their perspectives of the tragic event. The statements, that were similar, are as follows: the
colonists used snowballs as weapons, there was profanity from both soldiers and colonists, and
lastly, around 11 soldiers were involved and two more were assaulted. Deciding what the truth was,
was difficult. Therefore, the BostonMassacre had two sides, the colonial stance and the British. The
other issue was figuring out which side you stood on. The fact was, most... Show more content on

They released an article in the London Chronicle stating how multiple troops were attacked and
insulted by the mob . The newspaper emphasized firing was the only justification towards
everything that had been going on. They said firing was a form of self defense against the mob.
Meaning that when the soldiers left willingly once the Boston Council decided it was better for
them to leave the inhabitants of the town it was implied that the British were sensible and all they
were trying to do was protect themselves. Along with these statements, the British constantly
attempted to prove themselves as innocent. To do this, they went to the arts. Alonzo Chappel
painted the British perspective of the Boston Massacre in the 1800 s. The art depicted the colonists
attacking the British soldiers with clubs, looking far more menacing than the soldiers. Along with
the focal points of this painting, one can also see colonists looking out their windows viewing the
event, rather than calling for help. Making it seem as though the colonists didn t feel the need to
put a stop to this dispute. Overall, The London Chronicle influenced many of the British, appealing
to people s anxiousness and anxiety of a colonial

Why Should The Government Have A Huge Role In The Economy
In this essay I will be talking about how I feel about the government having a bigger role in the
U.S economy. Why should the government have a bigger role in the U.S economy? Like I said this
is about my opinion should the government have a bigger role in the U.S economy, in the next
paragraph I will tell you my opinion about this statement.
I m going to be giving my opinion about this whole government having a bigger role in the U.S
economy. I mean most people would say no for a great reason, but some people say yes for a
great reason too. That if they had a bigger role it would help the economy with many things that
we need help with like money for the projects we volunteer for. Like if the people that said no

Tactical Communication
Purpose
The Jeffersontown Police Department has a tactical unit consisting of 12 police officers and 3
Jeffersontown Firefighters. Although the City has a tactical team that responds to high risk
situations, the department does not have the necessary equipment to safely complete it s missions.
Tactical Communications
Despite enhancements in the variety of communications tools available to officers, effective
communication in tactical operations continues to rely upon voice communications using radios.

suspect had threatened to kill prosecutors, judges and defense attorneys. The suspect also had a

explosive devise and threatening to kill soldiers. During the standoff officers were forced to enter
into a extremely high risk environment to not only negotiate with the suspect but to also clear the

the location remotely. Also, In June of 2015 the police and fire departments responded to a
hazardous chemical leak in the industrial park. The robot would have been used to safely and
quickly search areas for victims exposed to the hazardous chemicals. An active shooter event in the
cities industrial park creates an extremely difficult problem. Some of these businesses store and use
radioactive materials, explosives, and pharmaceuticals. A tactical robot will allow law enforcement

Salary Negotiations
Facts
* This negotiation was an important one from a career point of view as it involves a salary
negotiation for an existing job. I have never been in a situation where I have actually negotiated a
salary for a person working under me, so it was a good experience for me. I was playing the role of
Pat Lynch, V.P. of marketingfor Rapid Leatherhead Goods Company. There are 4 main product
lines which comprise the major portion of the company s online sales. A new director for marketing
was hired two years ago for mail order sales. He has done a good job with three lines, but the fourth
line, which was a problem even before he joined, is still a problem and there has not been an
increase in sales for that product. It is the company s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the reasoning behind his asking for a raise of 20%. We started exchanging information and I told
him while he had done a good job for three lines, the Top Flite line was a major area of concern
for me, and it was very important that a positive increase in sales be seen in this area. * Invent
options for mutual gain: I knew that the main goal was to focus on mutual interest and come to
an agreement which would be beneficial for all parties involved. I knew that my main interest
was to see an increase in the sales of Top Flite, and his major area of interest was getting a better
salary hike. Thus we came up with options for mutual gain. I agreed to a 10% salary hike this
year, and if he could bring the sales of Top Flite up to the estimated target for this year I would
give him 15% hike.
* Insist on objective criteria: It was very important that we insisted on objective criteria during
the negotiation. I asked him the reasons for the hike he was asking for. I also told him the
reasons why I could not offer him the hike he was expecting. I was open to him asking me
questions and wanted him to be satisfied with what he was being offered. I believe that employee
satisfaction is important and it is important that he did not leave the room feeling unsatisfied. I was
convinced that a salary hike of around 6 2/3% was too low

The Influences Of Carl Czerny Style
III. The influences of Carl Czerny composition technique
The influences of Carl Czerny to Chopin s etude can be found certain evidence through the letters

brilliance in conquering new technical difficulties, some with more elegance and grace), lead to the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Independent Record Labels
There are many advantages and disadvantages of the two different types of record labels, these
include. Advantages of Independent Music Record Labels: Artists Get The Rights To Their
Music: This is a massive benefit of signing a contract with an indie label. As they have there own
rights their have been a big increase of artists music being in the charts or being used in tv, film,
and movies. By being allowed to keep the rights to the music, artists have the option to do what
they would like once the song has been recorded. They Sign You Because They Love Your

Infamous German automobile company, Volkswagen, was formed on May 28, 1937 by the
German government, then under the power of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. The state owned company
was originally named Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH but later in
1937 was changed to simply Volkswagenwerk, meaning The People s Car Company. With
Ferdinand Porche, automobile engineer, at the forefront of the design for the new vehicles,
Volkswagenwerk projected full scale production in Wolfsburg, Germany to take place in 1939.

Vaccines Are The Tugboats Of Preventive Health
Introduction
Vaccines are the tugboats of preventive health (Billy Corgan). Vaccines are one of the most cost
effective health solutions; they are seen as the safest and best way to prevent diseases. They are
also effective in preventing bacterial infections such as whooping cough (pertussis) and tetanus.
But there are people around the world who purposely avoid it because of the ingredients inside or
because of their own bad experiences with vaccines. Due to the rise of conscientious vaccine
objectors in Australia, the Australian government introduced the No Jab No Pay legislation. The
legislation consists on the government cutting child care benefits and tax rebate if the child isn t
immunised; ultimately to improve the immunisation coverage rates in Australia. ( No Jab No Pay,
Australian Vaccinationskeptics Network Inc. , 2016) It also provides a catch up plan that provides
free service for children under 10. The scheme aims to improve overall vaccination standards in
Australia. But why do people object getting vaccination? Is the No Jab No Pay the best solution? Is
there a better solution to vaccination rates? The report aims to answer the questions above through
research and data from Australia and around the world.
Importance of Vaccination
Vaccinations are an important force against preventable diseases, they fight many diseases and it
doesn t only protect the person vaccinated but can protect others. They can control the spread of
disease to people who are not

Heartgard Plus Research Paper
Winter for many pet owners is a difficult time. Typically, the exercise level that our pets get
during the summer and warmer months drops off drastically when winter hits and the snow
starts. There are some easy ways to keep your pet both happy and healthy throughout the winter
months. First, getting dogs new toys every winter is always a good idea. A rope or pull toy is a
great option because it allows for indoor tug of war. This is a great way for pets to work out their
muscles and is a great way for them to let out bent up frustration of being stuck indoors. Toys that
allow you to place treats inside them are always a great option as well. This will keep your dog
happy and amused for hours, attempting to get the treat out, with this option... Show more content

To alleviate any problems with fussy eaters, the Heartgard medication is supplied in the form of a
tasty chewable treat. These chewables contain beef to make them appetising to the most reticent
tablet taker, but this does mean they are not suitable for dogs with sensitivities to beef. For those
delicate pooches, ordinary Heartgard tablets will need to be bought. Heartgard Plus for dogs
contain Ivermectin, which is an effective controller of many parasites. It is used widely for the
treatment of a wide range of internal parasites in farm animals and in the treatment of dogs who
test positive for full blown heartworm disease. The volume of Ivermectin contained in dog
heartworm medicine is so small that it only eliminates heartworm larvae. Heartgard Plus medication
does not prevent larval heartworms infecting your dog, it stops them living long enough to cause
any problem. The way the heartworm medicine aspect of Heartgard Plus medication works is in a
retrospective manner. Each month your dog is given his chewable and the active ingredient slowly
destroys all heartworm larvae which have infected the blood during the previous thirty days.
Because the drug works backwards, eliminating parasites before they can progress to adulthood, it
is crucial that the treatment is given every month. Otherwise larvae deposited in your dog s
bloodstream via a mosquito bite can grow and eventually reproduce. Although Ivermectin
heartworm medications are good at eliminating larvae which have been in the system longer than a
month, their efficiency reduces as the larvae grow. Alongside an extremely reliable heartworm
preventative, Heartgard Plus chewables also contain Pyrantel, another parasite controller. This one
targets roundworm and hookworms. Using Heartguard Plus for dogs eliminates the need for an
additional deworming regime, providing a convenient method of controlling both intestinal worms
and heartworms together. For more

Hindi Means Hope And Is A Special Program Initiated By...
ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) in Hindi means hope and is a special program
initiated by the government of India for promoting suitable health care in rural parts of India. The
program was launched in the year 2005 as a part of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) by
the Ministry of Healthand Family Welfare (MoHFW) in India (ASHA s, 2016). The key aim of
ASHA is to work with the urban poor to bring about long term and sustainable transformation to
their quality of life Some of the key areas of focus for the organisation are empowerment, education,
healthcare, environmental improvements and financial inclusion (ASHA s, 2016).
ASHA s program or initiatives were undertaken by ASHA work by making slum dwellers realise
their potential. ASHA actively engages community members and transforms them into capable
healthcare workers regardless of their background. Currently, ASHA has successfully engaged
approximately 500,000 individuals from more than 60 slum colonies in Delhi and other
surrounding areas. Key resources that form an integral part of resources of the organisation include
Polyclinics and Mobile Health Vans.
The key approach being adopted by ASHA for resolving health issues is to train slum women as
Community Health Volunteers or Activists in every slum so that they can educate people in the
slums and can even provide basic, primary health care services to them so that not only is the health
care problem reduced to a great extent but also so that they

Animal Mounted Shooting Is A Event
Cowboy mounted Shooting is a timed event where competitors run a designated pattern, while
shooting ten balloon targets with two .45 caliber single action revolver guns, loaded with five
rounds of blank ammunition each. Mounted shooting combines the styles of an old time Wild
West show and skills of barrel racing, pole bending, and reigning all into one event. Any breed of
horseor mule can be used in the event, according to the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association,
some horses take easy to the event while other horses struggle with the loud environment. The
temperament is a huge factor of how well the animal compete in the show, along with the rider s
determination in training the horse. A horse I believe would be good for mounted shooting would
be a small quarter horse with a short back because quarter horses are known for their laid back and
quite domineer. While short back would be useful with bending around the poles and barrels in a
quick manner.
Although, traditional western style is accepted, with long sleeve western style shirt, five pocket
blue jeans, chaps, western boots and cowboy hat. Riders are encouraged to wear a period
costume since, the event pays tribute to the Wild West and the late 1800s. Competitors dressed in
old time style costumes would wear a shirt without a collar, high wasted pants with buttons in
place of the zipper, and an old style cowboy hat. Women that compete in the show have the option
to wear a dress or skirt that drapes over the

The Beat Generation Essay
The one thing that we yearn for in our living days, that makes us sigh and groan and undergo
sweet nauseas of all kinds, is the remembrance of some lost bliss that was probably experienced in
the womb and can only be reproduced (though we hate to admit it) in death. (Kerouac, Jack. On the

rivaled only by the likes of Allen Ginsbergand William S. Burrough. But what exactly is the Beat

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Positive Displacement Pumps
By allowing fluid to flow into closed cavity from a source with low pressure, trapping the fluid
and then force it into a receiver which is high pressure by decreasing the volume of cavity is the
positive displacement pumps work. P.D. pumps have their own advantages and disadvantages but
there are a few pros and cons of these pumps that are similar to each other.
Advantages of P.D. pumps
A highly viscous fluid can be easily handled by a couple rotary technologies and air operated
piston pumps. In centrifugal pumps their flow rate and efficiency start to drop above 500 SSU.
This is due to high friction losses in centrifugal pump. However in rotary pump, the flow and
efficiency will typically increase with viscosity. In addition, fluids with viscosities more than
several millions SSU can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inherently, positive displacement pumps necessarily need safety or pressure relief pumps because
the principle of operation does not include a pressure restriction. However, it is only possible
using complex mass balancing in oscillating positive displacement pumps vibration free operation.
Besides that, compare to centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps which are oscillated are
less suitable for high speeds. It is also a requirement to have a pulsating flow as when the positive
displacement pumps oscillate, it is a pulsation dampener.
The disadvantage in more complicated and complex designs is there are fault prone constructions
with valves that will cause it the stop working at some point. Other than that, in an oscillating
positive displacement pumps, there will be a larger number of wear parts if it is compared with
centrifugal pump. The major disadvantage of positive displacement pump is pump stroke is
manually set by adjusting the collar for determination of the volumes. It is generally less accurate
and less easily repeatable if it is manual

The Roles Of Aeneas In The Aeneid By Virgil
The Aeneid by Virgil is the hallmark of Roman literature, which Augustus commissioned with the
specific telos of telling the founding of Rome and justifying his rule. The epic follows the journey
of Aeneas after the events of Troy, whom Virgil displays as embodying the Roman ideal of pietas a
Roman s loyalty to his religious, filial, patriotic, and communal duties. In contrast, Dido, his brief
and spurned lover, represents the furor, which is a mindless passion or fury which obstructs one
from their duty. However, I would argue that Aeneas is not the perfect exemplar of pietas these
principles, nor is Dido the perfect antithesis. For both characters, the gods intervene directly as
they fight amongst themselves for what they believe the future should hold. Dido is struck by
Cupid s bow, and Aeneas must be reminded of his duty before he attempts to fulfill it. These
divine interjections muddle the understanding of if the characters actions accurately reflect
themselves or the will of the gods. Furthermore, Dido never abandons her patriotic duty; by even
in falling in love with Aeneas, she hopes to bolster the strength of her army with his soldiers.
Aeneas, on the other hand, claims he sails for Italy against his will, and appears as a puppet of
the Gods, instead of seeking to fulfill his duty himself. While the majority of the readers would
agree Aeneas epitomizes pietas and Dido furor, I would controvert that the distinction is not so
clear. The hidden motives of Dido and

Disadvantages Of Obscenity
Various statutes have provisions that touch upon the concept of Obscenity. But, attention here is
primarily placed on the provisions of the Indian Penal Code as other statutes also depend on the
Code to give content to the word obscene . The principal provisions of law concerning the
criminalization of publication and circulation of materials with obscene content are Sections 292
294 of the Indian Penal Code of 1860. Section 292 punishes the publication and dissemination of
materials that are obscene and section 293 provides for an enhanced punishment for distribution of
obscene materials to persons who are below 20 years of age. Both these provisions were
substantially amended in the year 1925, in pursuance to India s participation in the International
Convention for Suppression of Traffic in Obscene... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 borrows the definition of obscenityfrom
section 292 of the Penal Code to punish the spreading of obscene materials over the internet. It is
worth to take note of the fact that S. 98 of the then Code of Criminal Procedure was also amended
to empower a magistrate to enter and search premises with a warrant and take possession of
obscene materials. It was only after the passing of the Obscene Publications Act in England in 1959
(and perhaps owing to unsatisfactory and the widely criticized judgment in Lady Chatterly
Lover‟s Case13) that the legislature saw a need for reform. Thus, a select committee was
appointed under the chairmanship of Akbar Ali Khan in 1963, the recommendations made by the
committee resulted in the passing of Act 36 of 1969, which brought about several significant
changes in the provision. The 1969 amendments sought to bring clarity on the concept of obscenity.

Coyotes In City Analysis
Coyotes Create Chaos In City Coyotes have been an issue in Southern California for decades
now, specifically in the city of La Habra. An uprise in coyote attacks over the last few years has
finally brought the attention of the city council. Coyotes going into residential areas and attacking
pets is becoming more common. La Habra pet owners are leaving pet food and garbage outside at
night which tends to attract the coyotes into residential areas. In order to stop coyotes from
coming into residential areas and the attacks on pets, any food source the coyotes might want
should be kept indoors along with the actual pet itself. Coyotes are not just a problem in La Habra,

Speech On Diet And Nutrition
Anyone who is on a quest to live a long and healthy life should understands how important diet and
nutrition are to achieving the physically healthy body. Most of us delve deep into exercise and
healthy eating but we gloss over the topic of nutrition. There is a distinction that should be made
between diet and nutrition, these two concepts are mutually exclusive. Dieting involves making
sure we eat right, cut out the fats and the carbs, count daily calorie intake in our quest to either
lose weight or get back to a healthier size. Nutrition looks at the food we eat. It has to do with
what our body derives from what we feed it in terms of nutrients.
In order to understand the role of food in your life you need to be educated about the kinds of
food you should be eating and those that you need to steer clear of. The Cardinal Rule when it
comes to food and fitness is that you need food to function, food is the fuel that will get you
through your workout, help push you to do more and be more, however not all food is good for
you. Beyond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Twenty-Year Goal Research Paper
Twenty Year Goal
Background:
At the beginning of my high school journey (grade 6 onwards), I was very interested in becoming
a doctor. More specifically an orthopedic surgeon. Finding out that I could not go into my field due
to my hand tremors was difficult to take in at such a young age. Conducting more and more
research as I got older, showed me that coming into engineering would give me so many options to
continue my interest in biology, perhaps designing machines that could work more efficiently etc.
The last few years of high school made it obvious to me that engineering was the field I should go
into. Physics and math were my two favorite subjects, and I excelled in them. Aside from that, I

will have enough work experience and sufficient knowledge about engineering, to come up with
creative, and lateral ideas that could solve the problem of tailpipe emissions and noise pollution
made by current snowmobiles. 2B and 3A will give me a lot of time to find out more about
myself. None of these terms are considered to be hard, and so, I can use my extra time throughout
the terms, to explore different fields of mechanical engineering that I had not previously thought
of. This would help me find out if biomechanics is the right choice for me. 3B is the toughest
term in undergraduate mechanical engineering at the University of Waterloo. This will mean
that I am going to have to focus on my academics a lot more than previous semesters. This may
eliminate my chance of joining student teams, and play as many sports. This term is also an
important one in terms of co op because I would be looking for my first of final two jobs. This can

Capital Punishment In The Criminal Justice System
The primary purpose of the criminal justice system is to protect society. All features of the system;
detaining delinquents, trials, and punishments all have costs. Reduction in any part of the criminal
justice system can potentially result in a harmful society. The question most asked about the death
penalty is, Why should honest, hardworking taxpayers, have to pay for murderers for the rest of
their life instead of executing them? Actually the death penalty is the most expensive part off the
system. According to Dr. Ernest Gross, a Creighton University economics professor, who conducted
a study in August 2016, the death penalty cost an average 23.2 million more per year than
alternative sentences (Gross). The study found that states with the death penalty spend about 3.54%
of overall state budgets on court, corrections and other criminal justice functions associated with the
death penalty, while states without the death penalty spend about 2.93% on those functions (Gross).
The death penalty is more expensive than life without parole because the constitution requires an

architect and know exactly how to look at architecture. Corbusier (Voyatzis, 2015)
This outlines HervГ© eye that Corbusier picked up on. His use of Soul of an Architect explores that
connection between the two artists through the understanding of one another by the first glance;
after HervГ© photographed 650 of UnitГ© d Habitation, and sent them to Corbusier, it was the
search that Corbusier waited for, finally finding his photographer who shared and understood what

he is Christ... ...and has a message... ...and threatens... ...to kill himself, you invoke proportion;
order rest in bed; rest in solitude; silence and rest; rest without friends, without books; without

Woolf s own experiences could be reflected off of those of Bradshaw s thoughts. Woolf portrays
doctors to be useless. The delusions of Septimus are shown through Woolf s characteristic stream of
consciousness style.
Once you fall, Septimus repeated to himself, human nature is on you. Holmes and Bradshaw are on

are applied. Human nature is remorseless. (Page 108).

thoughts of Septimus show him to be a helpless victim. When understanding the way Septimus is
being treated by the doctor, the reader can not help but feel sympathy for him. Woolf s use of
stream of consciousness is that of cautiousness and delicacy. In The Hours Richard, a gay poet

Millipedes Lab Report
1. a. Soil is one abiotic variable that would explain why the millipedes are found more frequently
under logs. The soil could contain essential nutrients to the millipedes. Another abiotic factor
could be the darkness provided under the logs. Millipedes can take shelter under the logs and
avoid light. Predation is a biotic factor that also explains why millipedes are plentiful under logs.
The logs millipedes hide under provide a place for millipedes to take cover from possible
predators. b. Millipedes take shelter under logs to escape light and heat. In order to prove this
we need to conduct an experiment. Place two different groups of millipedes each into their own
container. Put some soil and a log into each container. Take the first container and place a bright

Therefore, it is clear to see that modernly utilized technology is not actually costing the consumer
any more than vehicles from yesteryear. While both sides seem to be at opposite ends of the
spectrum on this matter, they actually share a common interest. The similar interest in this debate
is excessive fuel consumption. Those who proclaim the modern automobile should be a strictly
economic and lightweight machine care about not consuming excessive amounts of fuel by doing
away with unneeded and heavy extras. They also don t want a higher impact on the environment
from increased fuel consumption. Likewise, those who proclaim the modern automobile should
not be a strictly economic and lightweight machine care about preserving the fuel economy as set
by their previous cars. They feel that as long as their current fuel consumption does not decline,
they will welcome the addition of new technology. In the end, although both sides care about and
measure excessive fuel consumption differently, they care about it equally. Since both sides agree
to an aversion of excessive fuel consumption, a great compromise would simply be to use lighter
wheel and tire setup. A trend has been continuing where vehicles are being equipped with
increasingly larger wheels and tires (Paula). This added rotational mass has very serious adverse

Disappearance Of Bees Essay
Background Information
Bees are disappearing because people are using harmful fertilizers. 25% of the managed bee
population has dropped since 1990. The use of these harmful pesticides can cause a hive of bees
to collapse. This is known as colony collapse disorder (CCD). The impact of bees disappearing
on the environment is not having enough food. Bees and other pollinators have a role in
pollinating one out of every three bites of food you eat. Without bees to spread seeds, many plants,
including food crops, would die off.
Neonicotinoids are most commonly used insecticide in the U.S. They are also an insecticide that
kills bees. The insecticides are applied to seeds before they are planted. They stay with the the plant
as they grow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the late 1990s, beekeepers around the world have observed the mysterious and sudden
disappearance of bees, and report unusually high rates of decline in honeybee colonies. Bees do
more than just make honey! Bee transfer pollen and seeds from one flower to another, fertilizing
the plant so it can grow and produce food. Cross pollination helps at least 30 percent of the world
s crops and 90% affects our food. The sweet fruits humans eat such as, strawberries, mangoes,
grapes, apples, and bananas would not be the same taste wise as they are now. We simply couldn t
live in the same world if it weren t for the bees.
Conclusion Before we started researching this project we didn t know how important bees are to
our environment. In general, we can help solve this problem in our environment by limiting the
use of pesticides. Creating regulations and laws limiting and controlling the use of neonicotinoid
and coumaphos pesticides would greatly help the bees population. We can also reward farmers for
practices that help wild bee populations thrive, such as leaving habitat for bees in their surrounding
fields, alternating crops so bees have food all year long, and not using harmful

With all the definitions above it is still impossible to completely understand the situation of
Kaplan with his daughter s statement. The belief of Ari cancels out the statement abundantly;
thus, making it a paradox statement. The reason for this is due to the statement and the situation,
even though both of the statements are true, they cannot be true at the same time, in other words
it is self contradictory. It is such a great irony that the attention grabbing sentence of Kaplan s
daughter leads to no further discussion in the book; nonetheless, the same theories Kaplan uses

Las Vegas Housing Market Crash of 2006, who is to blame?

In the United States, the lending industry s lack of aggressive monitoring was a big part of the

The public was uneducated in how the process worked but seemed not to be bothered because it got
them into the house. They don t want a mortgage, they want a home. A home they can raise a

The lenders probably told them to just sign here for now and we ll get your mortgage down to
where you really want it and in a couple of years and we ll figure out the rest. When you have no

refinanced their loan they would get a fixed rate mortgage for 30 years. But that never happened.

adequate hormonal replacement deterred surgeons from performing total thyroidectomies. Although
the procedure remains controversial it is increasingly being performed, and current indications
include cancer, toxic and nontoxic multinodular goitre and Graves disease. (1, 3, 12)
When the thyroid is resectable at presentation, total thyroidectomy is the current treatment of
choice for malignant disorders of the thyroid and valuable surgical option for the management of
several benign thyroid diseases, particularly among patients with an increased risk of recurrence.
(1, 13 16) Total thyroidectomy is recommended for patients with Graves disease because it
eliminates the source of the Graves disease autoantibodies; it eliminates the risk of disease
recurrence; hypothyroidism is predictable and controllable by immediate thyroxine replacement; it
alleviates any associated endocrine ophthalmopathy and the risk of malignancy among patients with
Graves disease. (9, 17, 18) Moreover, the risk of postoperative complications to the recurrent
laryngeal nerve and parathyroid glands are equivalent for total and subtotal thyroidectomy. (1, 12)

Analysis of Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Chinua Achebe s 1958 novel Things Fall Apart marked a significant turning point not only for
literature, but the world, because the novel is an attempt to blend the conflicting identities and
ideologies of Africa in the wake of colonization. The novel depicts the destructive tension that arises
between the traditions of the Igbo peopleand white colonizers, but, perhaps contrary to the reader s
expectation, it does not present either side as holding the ethical high ground. Rather, the novel
suggests that both the Igbo and the white missionaries perpetuate repressive ideologies, and
furthermore, that the destructive effects of these ideologies are visited upon both Ikemefuna and
Okonkwo. Okonkwo s larger narrative arc actually suggests an ideal third path that discards the ,
because the novel blends elements of African and Western literature in order to tell a story that is
simultaneously a tragedy in the Greek sense and clearly, essentially African. By examining
Okonkwo s story in detail, it will be possible to see how Achebe uses the particular narrative
elements of Things Fall Apartin order to demonstrate a potential bridge between the two societies
which in the novel are seemingly so far apart. To state that the 1958 publication of Things Fall
Apart was a significant moment for literature and the world is not a particularly bold statement,
because its centrality to the understanding of African society pre and post colonialism, as well as its
particular historical

Roxana Quotes
Roxana is the cause for the loss of her children, because she continues to stay with her husband
when he becomes an irresponsible, poor man, indicating how she is a selfish mother. She talks
about the different chain of causes, which leads her to the loss of her children. In the beginning of
the novel, she talks about how his business started to decline and that he had to shut down his
trade. With five children, they began to struggle, especially him. Instead of him buying a house and
providing for his family, he neglected it, liv d on as he did before, kept his Horses and Men, rid

Roxana always wanted him to leave, but she thought that if he did, he would starve his family,
and he did. She says, ... I was dreadfully frighted at last, and the more when I look d into my own
Circumstances, and considered the Condition which I was left; with five Children, and not one
Farthing Subsistance for them, other than about seventy Pound in Money, and what few things of
Value I had about me, which, tho considerable in themselves, were yet nothing to feed a Family,
and for a length of Time too (52). Here, she noticed that he is really gone, and now she is scared,
because she cannot take care of her and her children without him. This chain of event connects to
her husband s negligence. Since she made the decision to stay with her husband, despite the
hardships that he placed his family and himself in, he left her. So, she cannot take care of her
nor her children because she is not familiar with being an independent woman living in a male
dominant world. This cause could have been avoided if she were to leave him when she realized
that he was becoming broke and irresponsible; however, she was dependent on him because he
made the money and she worked in the private sphere. Overall, this connects to Hobbes
philosophy of the chain of events, because her husband s negligence and him leaving leads to the
next event that brings us closer to the loss of her children the will, and, because of her husband
leaving her, she had to reach out for

Team Building and Improving Team Performances
Karli, James and Scout, in their article (2013), Economic Validation for Performance Improvement

endeavored to sample the impacts on creating teams in an organization to boost revenue. The
Casino s executive management considered the values of implementing team building aspects, in

These individuals teamed up in writing the article, Team Cognition: Development and Evolution in
Software Project Teams. The authors cite that team buildingis critical in overcoming time
challenges and resource coordination. Additionally, owing to the characteristics of diverse software
development projects being unstructured and sophisticated, it is significant to implement teamwork
within such endeavors (He, Brian and William, 2010). Various software developments require the
implementation of dissimilar amounts of knowledge. This deems the implementation of an
individual s knowledge appears to be insufficient in the accomplishment of such objectives.
The authors of the article consider a team to be an association of two or more individuals working
together towards the achievement of a set objective. The authors highlight the power of team
cognition in envisaging the likelihood of team effectiveness. However, studying team cognition has
been marred significantly by conceptualizing and determining its constructs (He, Brian and
William, 2010). Team cognition study is complex, owing to the diversity of the tasks and the
involved environmental factors. As such, two aspects of team cognition include awareness of
expertise location and shared task understandings are critical. Individuals within a team ought to be
conscious of the members capabilities and clearly comprehend their various tasks in accomplishing
set objectives.

Keystone Species Essay
A Keystone species is one that plays a unique and critical role in the way an ecosystem functions.
In short, the disappearance of a keystone species would start a domino effect other species in the
habitat would also decline and become extinct. The keystone species disappearance could affect
other species that rely on it for survival. Two examples of important keystone species in their
communities are: starfish and sea otters. More specifically, these species are found in the Pacific
Northwest, but impact their communities in different ways.
The starfish is a keystone species sometimes found in the Northwest intertidal zones. An intertidal
zone is also known as the seashore, and is the area that is above water at low tide, and underwater at
high tide. Starfish in their community are predators and they feed on mussels found in the same
ecosystem. When starfish have been eliminated from their ecosystem (experimentally), the mussel

The sea otters are very important to the beauty, and biodiversity of their marine ecosystems,
(specifically off the coast of California). They feed on grazing animals such as, sea urchins and
invertebrates, which feed on giant kelp. Without the sea otters, the sea urchins, invertebrates and
any other grazing animal can destroy kelp forests. Even more so, kelp forests are used as homes
to the wide diversity of animals that depend upon kelp habitat for survival. Also, kelp forests
protect coastlines from storm surges, and absorb massive amounts of damaging carbon dioxide
from the atmosphere. Another important fact about Sea otters is that they are sentinel species.
Sentinel species are animals used to detect danger and give off warnings of danger. When applying

The Ecosystem Of The Chesapeake Bay
The Ecosystem
Introduction to Basic Geography
Fig. 1.1
Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains
roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including
all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bayis what is known as a watershed, an area that
contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within
the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams
and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States.
The Estuary System
An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward
and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An
estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the
best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique
in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans
have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity
lies it the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean
and freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand.

To offer good customer service consistently is not an easy task as retail employees are hard to train
and less consistent than machines. However, good customer service still can be developed with
considerable amount of time and effort that retailers put in. Once a retailer has earned a good
service reputation, it can sustain this advantage for a longer time as it is hard for competitor to
develop a comparable reputation. A retailer may achieve a sustainable competitive advantage
through their merchandise offerings by having exclusively merchandise and use its distribution
system to respond quickly to meet the target market segment. One good example is how retailers
positioning themselves to complement their private label merchandise with national brands that
appeal to their target market in order to gain long term competitive advantage. In order to develop
loyal customers, retailers must offer a consistent retail mix. For example, a department store is
projecting its image of providing excellence service with most up to date fashionable merchandise.
The customers will expect to find the excellent service with latest in fashions from this store. The
customers might shift to another store if they find the store did not provide the consistently most
fashionable merchandise with well trained service oriented salespersons to assist

Outline Of Psychoanalysis
Jessica Marcus
AP Literature
2 December, 2016
Mrs. Dawson
The basics of the psychological approach to literature is built upon Sigmund Freud s theories of
psychology. Freud employed the idea that the unconscious mind ultimately governs a person s
behaviors. This gives rise to three parts of the mind that strive for dominance, including the id,
superego, and the ego; the id being the instinctual trends, the superego plays the critical and
moralizing role, and the ego mediates between the two. In attempt to treat behavioral disorders in
Viennese patients, Freud used psychoanalysis. According to his book An Outline of Psychoanalysis,
he believed this method of treatment would, cure patients by returning the damaged ego to its

Collins acts in a manner that is align with the symptoms of a personality disorder: Narcissistic
Personality disorder. One of the many symptoms includes, expecting special favors and
unquestioning compliance with your expectations (Narcissistic Personality Disorder:
Symptoms). This is prevalent in his behaviors throughout the book, especially in his initial
proposal to Elizabeth Bennet. When she first rejects him, he immediately is dissatisfied and
turns to insulting her family s fortune as a response. Due to his grandiose view of himself, he
believes Elizabeth should have immediately agreed to marry him. When she denies him,
however, he is thrown off, and can only turn to putting her down to make himself feel better. He
then continues pushing the proposal, and claims, that it is usual with young ladies to reject the
addresses of the man whom they secretly mean to accept (Austen 80). Those with this disorder
have an inability to recognize the feelings of others, as they expect everything to work out in their
favor. Mr. Collins strives to find reasoning for Elizabeth s rejection, as he cannot comprehend how
she could possibly reject him. Therefore, Mr. Collins is incapable of acting otherwise, as he is
controlled by a personality

Cnn s Theory Of News Values
News reporting in the UK can best be understood through the theory of news values
News values are a set of theories that look to explain the reasons for stories appearing in the
media. News values are general guidelines or criteria used by media outlets to determine how
much prominence to give to a story (Spencer Thomas, 2013). The new values theories aim to
explain why decisions are made to prioritise certain stories. A hard newsstory carries information in
order of news value (Keeble, 2014), which explains why certain stories have much more coverage
than others. Richard Keeble and Galtung and Ruge attempt to explain news values in their theories.
Galtung and Ruge s theory of news values includes: negativity, proximity,... Show more content on

Also, the use of news values is supported by the target audience of a publication as the readership
of the publication proves what news values make up their stories. For example, a newspaper such
as The Sun may print stories about celebrity scandals and trends, which is highlighted in Keeble s
theory of news values which includes human interest (sex and celebrities), fashion and sport. On
the other hand, it could be said that news values are weak in helping us to understand news
reporting. The news values theories appear to omit certain factors such as the brand image, target
audience, the influence of ownership and social prejudice when considering the stories that
publications prioritise. These factors could be seen as important news values, if they were
included in the theories. Also, publications may choose to print stories not because of what they
deem to be newsworthy, but because of partiality and bias. This is media gate keeping, whereby
the press decides which information will go forward, and which will not (Lewin, 1943). They
publish what they want readers to see. This could relate to political bias, whereby a publication
prints positive stories that favour the political party that they support and prints negative stories
about the political party that opposes the one that they support.
News values can be used to understand the media

right exercise program depending on your needs.
Adopt proper eating habits

promote healthy bones. Omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation and keep the joints healthy.
Arthritis patients should also need to be careful about their weight. This is because the extra

Many apartment complexes have policies limiting the number of pets, the type of pets, and often
restricting the size or breed of dogs. Others do not allow pets at all. Be sure you are aware of your

If you do not have a pet and you do not want animals around, it might be refreshing to move into a
complex which does not allow pets. You will not have to worry if the previous tenants dog
scratched a hole in the bedroom carpet or if you next door neighbor s cat might sneak in your front

Amenities
Different amenities are important depending upon the person. While one person is concerned with
a dishwasher, another person might be most concerned with the apartment s proximity to the
laundry facility. Another person may care most about the quality of the high speed Internet or what

Social Policy And The Access Of The Judiciary System
What is Social Policy and the link to the Judiciary system
Social policy aims to improve human welfare and to meet human needs. Important areas of
social policy are wellbeing and welfare, unemployment insurance, pensions, the NHS, social
housing, family policy, social care, child protection, crime and criminal justice and labour issues.
It was said problems of children who were deprived or abused have been connected closely with
issues concerning young offenders (Spicker.uk, 2015).This statement involves various roles from
professionals in the judiciary system. Under the Children s Act 1998 the local authority s

Leaves And Survivor Essay
A novel is often defined as an invented prose narrative that is usually long and complex and
deals especially with human experience through a usually connected sequence of events. ( ) The
basis of a novel is very broad and features many different types of writing styles and genres
throughout time. Novels such as House of Leaves and Survivor are written in a different way than
White Noise, but all still follow the basic framework of a novel. What binds the different types of
novels together is the elements presented within them. They all feature many of the same literary
techniques and literary elements. Even though some novels contain different styles of writing and
different stories, they are all still considered a novel. Fictionnarratives written in prose can be seen
dating back to Rome and Greece. How does one differentiate from those written in ancient times
and those written in the eighteenth century? Ian Watt in his book The Rise of the Novel says that
realism is the major thing that separates the two. ( ) He looked to many historians and novelists and
says they have seen realism as the defining characteristic which differentiates the work of the early
eighteenth century novelists from previous fiction. ( ) With this, he says that the novel officially
began in the eighteenth century. Agreeing with Watt, the English Department at Brooklyn College

  • 2. New Brutalism In the following years, the Smithson and Banham would make several more remarks on New Brutalism. All these later remarks, as demonstrated by recent scholarships, only created an even more murky definition of New Brutalism. More than a decade after the initial surge of writings, the New Brutalism debates was reignited following Banham s 1966 publication New Brutalism: Ethics or Aesthetic. It was also at this moment that the Smithson reinstated the importance of Crosby s contribution to the New Brutalism discourse and distant themselves from the interpretation offered by Reyner Banham. In 1973, Alison and Peter Smithson published Without Rhetoric; an ArchitectureAesthetic, 1955 1972, which began with a revised version of the 1955 AD New Brutalism... What was notable about the Milbank project was that the Smithsons created a series of drawings that looked like Japanese scrolls for the competition. The building was presented, with its structural elements exposed, in an isometric view an apparent reference to oriental paintings. There was no furniture or interior fitting in the illustrations; instead one could only find scattered Japanese figures dressed in traditional Kimono along the scroll. Not unlike in their New Brutalism article, the Smithsons took pride in their superficial understanding of Japanese culture: they declared that the ancient Japanese figures were cut out from a postcard from the Victoria and Albert Museum. In the description of the project, the Smithsons made reference again to the idea of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sympathy And The Boston Massacre Points of views are majorly impacted by different words, actions and even locations. This is important in order to understand all the sides of a story. Meaning, that on March 5th, 1770, when colonists and soldiers gathered on King s street, America and Britain went to the media to present their perspectives of the tragic event. The statements, that were similar, are as follows: the colonists used snowballs as weapons, there was profanity from both soldiers and colonists, and lastly, around 11 soldiers were involved and two more were assaulted. Deciding what the truth was, was difficult. Therefore, the BostonMassacre had two sides, the colonial stance and the British. The other issue was figuring out which side you stood on. The fact was, most... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They released an article in the London Chronicle stating how multiple troops were attacked and insulted by the mob . The newspaper emphasized firing was the only justification towards everything that had been going on. They said firing was a form of self defense against the mob. Meaning that when the soldiers left willingly once the Boston Council decided it was better for them to leave the inhabitants of the town it was implied that the British were sensible and all they were trying to do was protect themselves. Along with these statements, the British constantly attempted to prove themselves as innocent. To do this, they went to the arts. Alonzo Chappel painted the British perspective of the Boston Massacre in the 1800 s. The art depicted the colonists attacking the British soldiers with clubs, looking far more menacing than the soldiers. Along with the focal points of this painting, one can also see colonists looking out their windows viewing the event, rather than calling for help. Making it seem as though the colonists didn t feel the need to put a stop to this dispute. Overall, The London Chronicle influenced many of the British, appealing to people s anxiousness and anxiety of a colonial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the City has a tactical team that responds to high risk situations, the department does not have the necessary equipment to safely complete it s missions. Tactical Communications Despite enhancements in the variety of communications tools available to officers, effective communication in tactical operations continues to rely upon voice communications using radios. • 6. Salary Negotiations Facts * This negotiation was an important one from a career point of view as it involves a salary negotiation for an existing job. I have never been in a situation where I have actually negotiated a salary for a person working under me, so it was a good experience for me. I was playing the role of Pat Lynch, V.P. of marketingfor Rapid Leatherhead Goods Company. There are 4 main product lines which comprise the major portion of the company s online sales. A new director for marketing was hired two years ago for mail order sales. We started exchanging information and I told him while he had done a good job for three lines, the Top Flite line was a major area of concern for me, and it was very important that a positive increase in sales be seen in this area. * Invent options for mutual gain: I knew that the main goal was to focus on mutual interest and come to an agreement which would be beneficial for all parties involved. I knew that my main interest was to see an increase in the sales of Top Flite, and his major area of interest was getting a better salary hike. Thus we came up with options for mutual gain. I agreed to a 10% salary hike this year, and if he could bring the sales of Top Flite up to the estimated target for this year I would give him 15% hike. * Insist on objective criteria: It was very important that we insisted on objective criteria during the negotiation. I asked him the reasons for the hike he was asking for. I also told him the reasons why I could not offer him the hike he was expecting. I was open to him asking me questions and wanted him to be satisfied with what he was being offered. I believe that employee satisfaction is important and it is important that he did not leave the room feeling unsatisfied. I was convinced that a salary hike of around 6 2/3% was too low ... • 11. Vaccines Are The Tugboats Of Preventive Health Introduction Vaccines are the tugboats of preventive health (Billy Corgan). Vaccines are one of the most cost effective health solutions; they are seen as the safest and best way to prevent diseases. They are also effective in preventing bacterial infections such as whooping cough (pertussis) and tetanus. But there are people around the world who purposely avoid it because of the ingredients inside or because of their own bad experiences with vaccines. Due to the rise of conscientious vaccine objectors in Australia, the Australian government introduced the No Jab No Pay legislation. The legislation consists on the government cutting child care benefits and tax rebate if the child isn t immunised; ultimately to improve the immunisation coverage rates in Australia. • 12. Heartgard Plus Research Paper Winter for many pet owners is a difficult time. Typically, the exercise level that our pets get during the summer and warmer months drops off drastically when winter hits and the snow starts. There are some easy ways to keep your pet both happy and healthy throughout the winter months. First, getting dogs new toys every winter is always a good idea. A rope or pull toy is a great option because it allows for indoor tug of war. This is a great way for pets to work out their muscles and is a great way for them to let out bent up frustration of being stuck indoors. Toys that allow you to place treats inside them are always a great option as well. This will keep your dog happy and amused for hours, attempting to get the treat out, with this option... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To alleviate any problems with fussy eaters, the Heartgard medication is supplied in the form of a tasty chewable treat. These chewables contain beef to make them appetising to the most reticent tablet taker, but this does mean they are not suitable for dogs with sensitivities to beef. For those delicate pooches, ordinary Heartgard tablets will need to be bought. Heartgard Plus for dogs contain Ivermectin, which is an effective controller of many parasites. It is used widely for the treatment of a wide range of internal parasites in farm animals and in the treatment of dogs who test positive for full blown heartworm disease. The volume of Ivermectin contained in dog heartworm medicine is so small that it only eliminates heartworm larvae. Heartgard Plus medication does not prevent larval heartworms infecting your dog, it stops them living long enough to cause any problem. The way the heartworm medicine aspect of Heartgard Plus medication works is in a retrospective manner. Each month your dog is given his chewable and the active ingredient slowly destroys all heartworm larvae which have infected the blood during the previous thirty days. Because the drug works backwards, eliminating parasites before they can progress to adulthood, it is crucial that the treatment is given every month. Otherwise larvae deposited in your dog s bloodstream via a mosquito bite can grow and eventually reproduce. Although Ivermectin heartworm medications are good at eliminating larvae which have been in the system longer than a month, their efficiency reduces as the larvae grow. Alongside an extremely reliable heartworm preventative, Heartgard Plus chewables also contain Pyrantel, another parasite controller. This one targets roundworm and hookworms. Using Heartguard Plus for dogs eliminates the need for an additional deworming regime, providing a convenient method of controlling both intestinal worms and heartworms together. For more ... Animal Mounted Shooting Is A Event Cowboy mounted Shooting is a timed event where competitors run a designated pattern, while shooting ten balloon targets with two .45 caliber single action revolver guns, loaded with five rounds of blank ammunition each. Mounted shooting combines the styles of an old time Wild West show and skills of barrel racing, pole bending, and reigning all into one event. Any breed of horseor mule can be used in the event, according to the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, some horses take easy to the event while other horses struggle with the loud environment. The temperament is a huge factor of how well the animal compete in the show, along with the rider s determination in training the horse. A horse I believe would be good for mounted shooting would be a small quarter horse with a short back because quarter horses are known for their laid back and quite domineer. While short back would be useful with bending around the poles and barrels in a quick manner. P.D. pumps have their own advantages and disadvantages but there are a few pros and cons of these pumps that are similar to each other. Advantages of P.D. pumps A highly viscous fluid can be easily handled by a couple rotary technologies and air operated piston pumps. In centrifugal pumps their flow rate and efficiency start to drop above 500 SSU. This is due to high friction losses in centrifugal pump. However in rotary pump, the flow and efficiency will typically increase with viscosity. In addition, fluids with viscosities more than several millions SSU can ... Inherently, positive displacement pumps necessarily need safety or pressure relief pumps because the principle of operation does not include a pressure restriction. However, it is only possible using complex mass balancing in oscillating positive displacement pumps vibration free operation. Besides that, compare to centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps which are oscillated are less suitable for high speeds. It is also a requirement to have a pulsating flow as when the positive displacement pumps oscillate, it is a pulsation dampener. The disadvantage in more complicated and complex designs is there are fault prone constructions with valves that will cause it the stop working at some point. Other than that, in an oscillating positive displacement pumps, there will be a larger number of wear parts if it is compared with centrifugal pump. • 21. The Roles Of Aeneas In The Aeneid By Virgil The Aeneid by Virgil is the hallmark of Roman literature, which Augustus commissioned with the specific telos of telling the founding of Rome and justifying his rule. The epic follows the journey of Aeneas after the events of Troy, whom Virgil displays as embodying the Roman ideal of pietas a Roman s loyalty to his religious, filial, patriotic, and communal duties. In contrast, Dido, his brief and spurned lover, represents the furor, which is a mindless passion or fury which obstructs one from their duty. However, I would argue that Aeneas is not the perfect exemplar of pietas these principles, nor is Dido the perfect antithesis. For both characters, the gods intervene directly as they fight amongst themselves for what they believe the future should hold. Dido is struck by Cupid s bow, and Aeneas must be reminded of his duty before he attempts to fulfill it. These divine interjections muddle the understanding of if the characters actions accurately reflect themselves or the will of the gods. Furthermore, Dido never abandons her patriotic duty; by even in falling in love with Aeneas, she hopes to bolster the strength of her army with his soldiers. Aeneas, on the other hand, claims he sails for Italy against his will, and appears as a puppet of the Gods, instead of seeking to fulfill his duty himself. While the majority of the readers would agree Aeneas epitomizes pietas and Dido furor, I would controvert that the distinction is not so clear. The hidden motives of Dido and ... This trend is reflected in the poem Fat Children, by Natalie Day. This is a poem about how hard a mother found it to stop feeding the hungry mouths of her children. A thoughtful analysis of this poem reveals a theme about unethically advocating being overweight. This is easily discernible in the sentence, Even when they smelled of vomit / and diarrhea, I kept feeding them (Day lines 11 12). Reading on, this theme develops even further in the sentence, I kept baking cakes and frying sausages, / even when repulsed (Day 12 13). While this is a very widely known subject, unbeknownst ... While both sides seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum on this matter, they actually share a common interest. The similar interest in this debate is excessive fuel consumption. Those who proclaim the modern automobile should be a strictly economic and lightweight machine care about not consuming excessive amounts of fuel by doing away with unneeded and heavy extras. They also don t want a higher impact on the environment from increased fuel consumption. Likewise, those who proclaim the modern automobile should not be a strictly economic and lightweight machine care about preserving the fuel economy as set by their previous cars. They feel that as long as their current fuel consumption does not decline, they will welcome the addition of new technology. In the end, although both sides care about and measure excessive fuel consumption differently, they care about it equally. Since both sides agree to an aversion of excessive fuel consumption, a great compromise would simply be to use lighter wheel and tire setup. A trend has been continuing where vehicles are being equipped with increasingly larger wheels and tires (Paula). The use of these harmful pesticides can cause a hive of bees to collapse. This is known as colony collapse disorder (CCD). The impact of bees disappearing on the environment is not having enough food. Bees and other pollinators have a role in pollinating one out of every three bites of food you eat. Without bees to spread seeds, many plants, including food crops, would die off. Neonicotinoids are most commonly used insecticide in the U.S. They are also an insecticide that kills bees. Since the late 1990s, beekeepers around the world have observed the mysterious and sudden disappearance of bees, and report unusually high rates of decline in honeybee colonies. Bees do more than just make honey! Bee transfer pollen and seeds from one flower to another, fertilizing the plant so it can grow and produce food. Cross pollination helps at least 30 percent of the world s crops and 90% affects our food. The sweet fruits humans eat such as, strawberries, mangoes, grapes, apples, and bananas would not be the same taste wise as they are now. We simply couldn t live in the same world if it weren t for the bees. Conclusion Before we started researching this project we didn t know how important bees are to our environment. In general, we can help solve this problem in our environment by limiting the use of pesticides. Creating regulations and laws limiting and controlling the use of neonicotinoid and coumaphos pesticides would greatly help the bees population. We can also reward farmers for practices that help wild bee populations thrive, such as leaving habitat for bees in their surrounding fields, alternating crops so bees have food all year long, and not using harmful ... Analysis of Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart Chinua Achebe s 1958 novel Things Fall Apart marked a significant turning point not only for literature, but the world, because the novel is an attempt to blend the conflicting identities and ideologies of Africa in the wake of colonization. The novel depicts the destructive tension that arises between the traditions of the Igbo peopleand white colonizers, but, perhaps contrary to the reader s expectation, it does not present either side as holding the ethical high ground. Rather, the novel suggests that both the Igbo and the white missionaries perpetuate repressive ideologies, and furthermore, that the destructive effects of these ideologies are visited upon both Ikemefuna and Okonkwo. Okonkwo s larger narrative arc actually suggests an ideal third path that discards the , because the novel blends elements of African and Western literature in order to tell a story that is simultaneously a tragedy in the Greek sense and clearly, essentially African. By examining Okonkwo s story in detail, it will be possible to see how Achebe uses the particular narrative elements of Things Fall Apartin order to demonstrate a potential bridge between the two societies which in the novel are seemingly so far apart. To state that the 1958 publication of Things Fall Apart was a significant moment for literature and the world is not a particularly bold statement, because its centrality to the understanding of African society pre and post colonialism, as well as its particular historical ... The news values theories appear to omit certain factors such as the brand image, target audience, the influence of ownership and social prejudice when considering the stories that publications prioritise. These factors could be seen as important news values, if they were included in the theories.
