Reflection on Lesson1
On Wednesday the 28th of October I was able to teach my first lesson, it was taught to a group of about
15 grade 2 students. I taught them maths from a prescribed lesson plan given to me by my mentor
teacher. The students have a work book that they spend the year working through, this work book has
brief explanations about the topic and then has problems to solve. I was teaching the students about
centimetres, there was lots of evidence of prior learning as the students were able to answer most
questions. I really enjoyed teaching the lesson, I tried to get the students excited about learning and
encouraged them to have a go. As the students had prior learning I felt comfortable with how the lesson
went.
Reflection on Lesson2
On Thursday the 29th of October I was able to teach my second lesson, this one had my mentor teaching
giving me feedback. I used the same workbook and prescribed lesson plan, the topic was still
centimetres. This lesson used worded maths problems that needed solving, I need help with some of the
lesson plan and my mentor teacher was happy to help. The commencing of the lesson went well but I did
feel a little less comfortable this time around, maybe because my mentor teacher was marking me or
maybe because I wasn’t as confident with what I was teaching. Because I wasn’t as confident I felt more
like the students weren’t picking up what I was teaching as much as they had in the first lesson, this may
also have been because the prior learning of worded questions was not there. Apart from that the lesson
went well and I had a great time teaching them.
