First Teaching lesson narrative
Before entering the classroom I was very anxious and nervous because I didn’t
know if I was going to perform well. But Romina and Besim told me that I should
relaxed and that everything was going to go well. And indeed, I really enjoyed the class.
It was a scary yet exciting experience.
The lesson plan that my pedagogical partner and I had prepared was really
motivating for our students so luckily we were both able to complete the whole lesson
plan. Students were engaged and eager to work. Yet, I think I could improve my
teaching by trying to make the more quiet students talk a bit more and to move more
around the classroom so I get to see what everyone is doing and to check if they are
solving the tasks without problems.
Moreover, there were some obstacles that had to do with misbehaviour from two
of my students (Leo and Thiago). These two kids were screaming and distracting the
rest of their classmates. So, I asked Besim to talk with them while I tried to explain the
activity. Since they kept talking and not working, I decided to talk with them personally
and asked them why they were misbehaving. They said that they were bored because
the task was too easy so I challenged them to show me how to solve the activity, that’s
when they realised they didn’t know what they had to do. Once I explained them again
the task, I asked them to please pay attention the next time. Finally they ended the
activity and worked the rest of the class.
-What can you tell about your partner's lesson?
As regards Besim’s lesson, I have to say that it was very good. He could
improve his explanations a little bit more because children couldn’t understand very
well what they had to do. But overall it was a very good lesson and he managed to
complete the whole lesson plan.
Did you help one another? Was team work positive?
We helped each other a lot as regards discipline. Both of us would try to make
our students pay attention while one of us where explaining the tasks. It was a great
lesson.
