This document is a reflection paper by Theresa Huang about her visit to the Welcome Centre Immigrant Service agency. The agency provides various services to support new immigrants, such as settlement and integration services, English language classes, employment services, and programs for women, youth and seniors. During her visit, Theresa observed that the agency's staff were very friendly and professional. She also learned about other services the agency provides through presentations by other student groups, such as support for families dealing with separation, divorce, and remarriage, which can significantly impact children's lives. As an early childhood educator, Theresa believes it is important to help support children and families facing challenges.

2. Individual GC&E reflection paper
The agency that we are visiting is the Welcome Centre Immigrant Service, and it
is locating at Markham South. It is one of the branches of CICS (Centre for Information
& Community Services). The aim of the agency is to provide support to help new
immigrants to fit in this new country. They do have a lot of services to support new
immigrants. They are the settlement and integration services, English language class,
employment services, accreditation, services for women, youth and seniors, languages
services and volunteer services.
The day that me and my group are going to visit Welcome Centre, the first
impression that come to my mind is that they are very professional because of the big
building they have, easy to access and the people who work there are very friendly. On
that day, when I come to the reception desk, the receptionist friendly speaks to me, “Hi,
how are you? May I help you?” The way that they service people friendly is one of the
most important elements to be professional. Moreover, the agency who is leading us is
showing friendly and professional, too. First, he introduces himself and makes friendly to
us which he is building trust and friendly to everyone of us. It is kind of the agency’s
mandate to help and support people from all over the world.
Before, I have come to this centre. The reason is that my father does not know
any about English, so he goes to that centre to learn free English. The centre is not far
away to my home, and it takes us 5 minutes to walk there. At that time, he is learning the
Basic English for 2 hours every day or twice a week.

3. On Nov 12th, 2012, I heard one of the groups who are presented the agency named,
Families Service Toronto. I learnt that the services that they have not only serve for new
immigrant, but also to parents and children in this country who need support. When I
heard of other group who is presenting this agency, I learn that it is very important to help
families and children who are facing separating, divorcing and remarrying. When these
problems are occurring, the most impact is on children’s life. For example, when the
parents are going too divorced, who is going to take care of the children? How do the
children feel when they do not have mother or father? All these happened to children day
to day when they no longer have parents to live together. Thus, as an Early Childhood
Educator and Global Citizen, it is our responsibility to help and support children and
families who are facing different kinds of problems. For example, we can provide
workshop for families to learn the impact on children when they are separating, divorcing
and remarrying, and provide support to help families to reducing parent conflict.
