Individual GC&E Reflection
I believe throughout this agency presentations I have gained my knowledge about family
support system around the world and the society. It gave me a better idea about how our society
creates many different organizations to help people who need. As we all know people who live
all over the world suffer from many different problems. Some have become global social
problems, and some problems have become local problems. Even though our society has created
so many different non-profit organizations to help people who suffer from many different
problems some people are not aware about these resources. Even though natural resources and
world human resources are around us to achieve sustainability and equitable distribution at
personal, professional and global levels I believe people do not have clear ideas about how they
can reach them.
As a group we decided to visit Scarborough Women’s Centre because we felt that
this agency provides so many different supports for women who need assistance to settle down
in Canada. Nowadays our society faces different kinds of problems especially women, new
immigrants, and teenage parents facing social, emotional, and financial problems. These women
need plenty of support and information to overcome their problems. When we think about these
problems Scarborough Women’s Centre provides enormous support for women to overcome
their difficulties. Before we visit our agency we had read so many things about our agency such
as programmes that they provide throughout the year. The day that we visited our agency it kind
of surprised me because the agency office was located in a small area and there was only one
person in the office. Before I went in I thought it will be a big place where many people worked
in the office. The lady was well prepared for our interview. They had a small conference room
which she had arranged for us. She had gathered all the detailed for us. The thing that impacts
me is they are concerned about their clients and people who need their support not only their
personal facilities. They do not spend money to maintain a big office so that made a positive
impact on me about the agency. The other experience that had impact on me was their waiting
list for counselling programme. When we visited the agency on October they had their
counsellor booked until February. I felt it was too long to wait if you need counselling right
away.
I believe I have gained my knowledge about new agencies and different resources have
established in the society to make this world a better world for people who suffer from many
different problems. When I think about our society we have people who came from many
different countries from all over the world. Canada is a multicultural country who is welcomes
people who live all over the world. Mostly people who come to settle down in this country
because of the many issues they are facing in their societies. When we think about daycare
setting we have families belonging to all kinds of categories. Such as new immigrant, single
parent families, teenage parents, mostly they are having difficulty facing everyday life. They
need social, emotional and financial support to overcome difficulties they are facing day to day
needs. I believe the learning experiences that I had from hearing the agency presentations helped
me a lot for my professional growth. Now I have all kinds of information related to many
different problems so that I believe this information will help me assist families who are in need.
Based on my knowledge when I think about wealth, human and natural resources distributions
do not have equity. People who live in wealthy countries they have the power and privilege to all

2. kinds of resources. Moreover these countries have very less population when we compare it to
the world population. They are the people who decide everything and make decisions in this
world. They have access to all kinds of resources that they need. Therefore large populations of
the other part of the world do not have access to at least basic needs of everyday life. That is why
people are end-up with the shelters and suffer from all kinds of problems. This inequity creates
social problems all over the world. As a global citizen I believe no matter where we live in this
world we all should have access to the world resources, so that way we can make this world a
better place for everyone. World’s resources should be distributed equitably and sustainably. It
should have equal distribution so that each and everyone have access to what they need.
So I believe throughout all agency presentations I have gained my knowledge about how
I can help families related to these kinds of problems. The Mennonite Central Committee
(Global family program) this agency provides enormous support for all kinds of people not only
Canada they support communities in certain countries. This agency assists individuals, families
and communities in other countries with educational support. The other agency that I learned is
Boost. This agency is a non-profit community organization committed to eliminating abuse and
violence in the lives of children, youth and their family. I believe as an early childhood educator
it is very important to have better knowledge and information about these agencies that provide
support families to have a better quality of life. The other agency that I have learnt is South
Asian women’s right organization (SAWRO). Since we have multicultural environment in our
daycare settings it is better to have knowledge about these agencies because if they provides
assistant from their own language or if there is something related to their own culture, families
will be more comfortable with these agencies. This agency also provides support in many
different areas. Such as life planning counselling, settlement service, job search support, self
employment access, women and youth leadership programmes. I believe these agencies provide
assistance to overcome some of the key issues facing many families regarding community
services. Such as, access to employment insurance, childcare subsidies, safe affordable housing
and education. Even though these resources are around our society because of unawareness
people do not know how to achieve and take advantage of them. As an early childhood educator
I believe our responsibility to provide this information to the families so that they can achieve
them.
Children are our future if we could help them to have peaceful healthy nurturing
environment to live that will help us to create healthy and strong new generation for our future.
Therefore we should help families to overcome some of the key issues they face in everyday life.
When our children have peaceful, healthy, and nurturing environment at home that will help
them to develop in a positive environment where they can freely explore the world around them.
So as a global citizen I believe my responsibility is to help families in need. As a society all these
non-profit charitable organizations are giving their helping hands for people who need support so
I believe together we can make a difference.
