Quick synopsis of how the NAP program through the PA Department of Community & Economic Development helped make a significant difference in two capital projects at two of our campuses the Residential Treatment Facility and our Partial Hospitalization Program at Hamilton here at Sarah A Reed Children's Center, Erie,PA. www.sarahreed.org
Yesterday marked one year of the COVID-19 cloud that affected the world, our country, and Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center. It instantly impacted all of us in so many ways. In March 2020, after attending a plethora of Zoom meetings and hearing the technology needs that all five campuses were quickly experiencing, we immediately created the 150th Anniversary Technological Initiative. This critical effort incorporated the spirit of our rich history and the needs created by the pandemic, as we began to raise the philanthropic funds necessary to secure the technology we so desperately needed because of the uptick in remote learning and telehealth.
We set an initial $300,000 goal based on voiced needs and began the fundraising effort to secure the private funds necessary to address the immediate needs brought about by this pandemic.
I am happy to report that we have reached 70% of our goal and raised $208,000 thanks to you and our generous community of donors! But our work continues!
I wanted to share with you some of the progress we have made to date thanks to your support of us during this COVID-19 cloud. Our agency has always moved forward during challenging times, just like our foundress Sarah A. Reed did back in 1871 when she and her cadre of 30 women first began this organization.
Mark and Mallory, we will keep you posted as we continue to move forward, and if you have any friends who would like to join us in this historic effort please let me know.
Thank you for your commitment to this special place and the amazing work that is accomplished here every day for some of the most challenged children, adults and families in our region.
All of us here at Sarah Reed wish you and your family the very best as we move into the Spring 2021 season. “The sun will rise again.” www.sarahreed.org

Celebrating 150 Years of Sarah A Reed
All of us here at Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center are thrilled to be featured in the April 2021 edition of Business Magazine alongside Gale Magyar and her team at Sarah Reed Senior Living! The article in this special “Women in Leadership” issue celebrates the rich 150-year history of our organization, which was started back in 1871 by Sarah Ann Reed and 30 local women who were committed to improving the lives of Erie County’s most vulnerable population of women, orphans, children and families. In 1986, two independent non-profits formed – Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center and Sarah Reed Senior Living – and they continue to shine brightly and provide the Erie community with compassionate, cutting-edge programs and services. We know Sarah is smiling down on us and would be proud of the great work being done by Adrienne Dixon, Ph.D., Gale Magyar, NHA, CASP, and all the staff members from both agencies, as we continue to carry on Sarah’s legacy of caring and positively impacting the lives of so many individuals and families in our community and the Commonwealth.

An effort to start a Summer School in the Pulaski-Lighthouse District on Erie's East Side. This would establish a beachhead for Sarah Reed to begin working with children on Erie's East Side after being on Erie West Side for four years. The success of the ARP Summer Program helped to lay the groundwork toward putting back the "soul" into the former St Ann's School built in 1925.
To date over $500,000 of improvements have been made to the building under Phase#1 ,new heating and cooling, IT Infrastructure upgrades, classroom equipment, technology. Once two new roofs are completed. Phase #2 begins to address a plethora of needs internally.
An impact report on our 2023 Summer & Math Program/STEAM Initiative of the accomplishments made possible through EITC donations for this program held every summer at our Sarah Reed Main Campus. Where we provide math, reading and STEAM skills to the children that attend.
A quick look at the beginning of the St Ann's Campus and how it fits into the Sarah Reed Childrens Center efforts to work with children with behavioral issues on Erie's East Side..Know as the Pulaski-Lighthouse District. Sarah Reed bought this school from the Diocese of Erie in 1986.Presently we have over 70 children enrolled and have helped over 86 over this 2023-2024 Academic Year.
We have initiated a Phase #1 improvement Plan for our St Ann's Campus in the Pulaski-Lighthouse District in the City of Erie. After a very successful Summer 2022 Program on the campus. We made an analysis of the necessary improvements we need to make for the students we educate at our St Ann's Campus. One of the first efforts was to upgrade the aging classroom furniture in 10 of our classrooms. We developed this Case Study in collaboration with School Specialty. This was one component of our $500,000 Phase #1effort to bring back the soul of the building that has a true history of being the site where many children have received an education in this school on Erie's East Side. www.sarahreed.org

Medical Technology Tackles New Health Care Demand - Research Report - March 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) predicts that with, against, despite, and even without the global pandemic, the medical technology (MedTech) industry shows signs of continuous healthy growth, driven by smaller, faster, and cheaper devices, growing demand for home-based applications, technological innovation, strategic acquisitions, investments, and SPAC listings. MCG predicts that this should reflects itself in annual growth of over 6%, well beyond 2028.
According to Chris Mouchabhani, Managing Partner at M Capital Group, “Despite all economic scenarios that one may consider, beyond overall economic shocks, medical technology should remain one of the most promising and robust sectors over the short to medium term and well beyond 2028.”
There is a movement towards home-based care for the elderly, next generation scanning and MRI devices, wearable technology, artificial intelligence incorporation, and online connectivity. Experts also see a focus on predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory, and precision medicine, with rising levels of integration of home care and technological innovation.
The average cost of treatment has been rising across the board, creating additional financial burdens to governments, healthcare providers and insurance companies. According to MCG, cost-per-inpatient-stay in the United States alone rose on average annually by over 13% between 2014 to 2021, leading MedTech to focus research efforts on optimized medical equipment at lower price points, whilst emphasizing portability and ease of use. Namely, 46% of the 1,008 medical technology companies in the 2021 MedTech Innovator (“MTI”) database are focusing on prevention, wellness, detection, or diagnosis, signaling a clear push for preventive care to also tackle costs.
In addition, there has also been a lasting impact on consumer and medical demand for home care, supported by the pandemic. Lockdowns, closure of care facilities, and healthcare systems subjected to capacity pressure, accelerated demand away from traditional inpatient care. Now, outpatient care solutions are driving industry production, with nearly 70% of recent diagnostics start-up companies producing products in areas such as ambulatory clinics, at-home care, and self-administered diagnostics.
Antibiotic Stewardship by Anushri Srivastava.pptxAnushriSrivastav
Stewardship is the act of taking good care of something.
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
WHO launched the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) in 2015 to fill knowledge gaps and inform strategies at all levels.
ACCORDING TO apic.org,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
ACCORDING TO pewtrusts.org,
Antibiotic stewardship refers to efforts in doctors’ offices, hospitals, long term care facilities, and other health care settings to ensure that antibiotics are used only when necessary and appropriate
According to WHO,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a systematic approach to educate and support health care professionals to follow evidence-based guidelines for prescribing and administering antimicrobials
In 1996, John McGowan and Dale Gerding first applied the term antimicrobial stewardship, where they suggested a causal association between antimicrobial agent use and resistance. They also focused on the urgency of large-scale controlled trials of antimicrobial-use regulation employing sophisticated epidemiologic methods, molecular typing, and precise resistance mechanism analysis.
Antimicrobial Stewardship(AMS) refers to the optimal selection, dosing, and duration of antimicrobial treatment resulting in the best clinical outcome with minimal side effects to the patients and minimal impact on subsequent resistance.
According to the 2019 report, in the US, more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur each year, and more than 35000 people die. In addition to this, it also mentioned that 223,900 cases of Clostridoides difficile occurred in 2017, of which 12800 people died. The report did not include viruses or parasites

2. Throughout the pandemic, treatment for children and families continued via telehealth. The option of virtual sessions minimized
disruption to treatment and provided an effective way to provide support during a global pandemic. Many services have transitioned
back to face-to-face, and for now telehealth remains an option when face-to-face sessions are not possible.

Can you tell us about your background and your history at Sarah Reed?
What types of services does Sarah Reed's Outpatient Program offer for adults?
During COVID-19, many of our services were carried out virtually via telehealth. How did telehealth impact our programs?
What are some of the future goals of the Outpatient Program?
We are working to expand services within the community and reduce barriers to treatment by offering our services at additional
locations within neighborhoods around the city. This will increase accessibility for the 1,700 children, adults and families we serve.

Edinboro University Donates Little Free Library to Hamilton Campus
On June 14th, our Hamilton Campus received a Little Free Library thanks to the
Edinboro University Community Literacy Initiative! Dr. Mary Weidner, Dr.
Kathleen Dailey and their team at Edinboro University transformed a metal file
cabinet into a beautiful outdoor shelter to safely keep literacy contributions for
anyone in the community looking to share and take books.
Chongyuan (Lilith) Du, a Master's art student at Edinboro University, designed
and painted the cabinet to highlight our agency's 150 years of community service.

Mary Barr Receives Inaugural "Spirit of Sarah Reed Award"
Celebrating Our Team Page 4
Marcia Anderson began her journey at Sarah Reed in 2006
when she worked as a therapeutic support staff in our BHRS
program. After that, she became a refocus specialist for
eight years in two local high schools before leaving Sarah
Reed to work with college students on the autism spectrum
and then later with adults in addiction treatment and
recovery. At that point, Marcia realized the struggles her
adult clients were facing are exactly what Sarah Reed works
to resolve with children, so when a therapist position opened
at Sarah Reed in 2019 she rejoined the team!

2nd Annual Sarah's Great Giveaway Benefits Local Community
Local residents visited Sarah Reed's Outpatient Program at the Professional Building on May 8th
for the 2nd Annual Sarah's Great Giveaway. Our team of volunteers collected gently used
clothing, toys, books, small household items and more, which were given out for free to children,
adults and families. Since May is Mental Health Awareness month, we also had a table with
information about local mental health services that are available. Thank you to our Sarah Reed
employees: Dr. Brittany Hayden, Jane Kukla, Dakota Cohen, Meghan Probst, Dr. Sallie
Richards, and Mandy Longstreth, and our community volunteers: Liam Probst, Stefanie
Baker, Stephany Anderson, Stephanie Casey, Dan Casey, Nicole Rupp, and John Longstreth!
All of us here at Sarah Reed wish a
fond farewell to Rob Freeman, CPA,
who successfully led our agency as
the director of finance and operations
for over 13 years.
Enjoy retirement, Rob! Thank you
for your years of dedicated service.
"Sarah Reed knew that it took the power of a dedicated group of people to initiate change and improve conditions in 1871. I have
observed this same 'magic' taking place on our campuses, in our hallways, within schools, and in our community. The 'Spirit of
Sarah Reed' is present today and visible in the efforts of staff, my colleagues and HR team members, and I am honored to be the first
recipient of this award." ~Mary Barr, Associate Vice President of Human Resources and Spirit of Sarah Reed Award Winner
Congratulations, Mary!

We are grateful for the generosity of our donors, who have contributed a grand total of $225,450 towards
our 150th Anniversary Technological Initiative so far! This initiative is having a huge impact on our

Hamot Health Foundation Donates New AED Machine to Sarah Reed
Special thanks to Robert Fisher, Jaimee
Black, vice president of operations, and
everyone at the Hamot Health Foundation for
helping to make this contribution possible!
The nurses at the Leslie Medical Center on the
main campus of Sarah Reed's Residential
Treatment Program were thrilled to receive a
brand new AED machine from our friends at
the Hamot Health Foundation on March 23rd!
The new AED machine is much more compact
and easy to use, and the Hamot Health
Foundation also donated a cabinet to store it in.
Robert Fisher, emergency preparedness
coordinator at UPMC Hamot, conducted a
training session for the nurses on how to use
the new machine.
