In today’s world with the ever increasing traffic it is inherent that we immediately find an optimum solution for it so that we can move on from being a developing nation to a super power.
There is a great need to resolve our transportation issues at the earliest as connectivity is of grave importance. Finding a systematic and organized way around the current situation is only going to benefit us in the long run. Better connectivity reduces transportation costs immensely and saves time in traveling.
The Cause, Effect and Possible Solution to Traffic Congestion on Nigeria Road...inventionjournals
Due to increase in population and the attraction of human activities into urban region which in
turn leads to the growth of vehicle ownership and use, there is demand for road space which has led to increase
in the number of public transport operation. Consequently, the demand for road space is greater than the
supply because the rate of provision of transport facilities is less than the rate of growth of vehicle ownership
and use which result into traffic congestion. Traffic congestion is the impedance of vehicles imposed on each
other due to speed-flow relationship in conditions where the use of transport system approaches capacity.
Traffic congestion in Nigeria, taking Basorun-Akobo Road in Ibadan Oyo State as a case study has been
analysed using experimental and theoretical approaches. These involve traffic counting and delay survey. In
order to carry out effective research work on the case study road, the method adopted were traffic counting and
traffic delay survey. The effect of traffic congestion on the study area are Waste of time, Delay movement,
Accident, Inability to forecast travel time, Fuel consumption, Road rage and environmental pollution. Possible
solutions to traffic congestion on the case study area is to: Dualize the Road, Provide Adequate Parking Space,
Construct proper Drainage and Install Traffic Control Devices.

This presentation talks about the basics of transportation planning. The transportation jargons that are used like ROW, Carriage way etc. It also talks about the Road hierarchy, Intersections, Road Capacity and Level of Service.
Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is the modern technique implemented in many developed countries and is under implementation in developing countries like india. This presentation gives a brief idea about ITS.
Our project is the complete study about both Spot speed studies and Speed delay time survey. This topic is a part of Transportation Engineering. This report helps you to understand this topic in detail. This report will also help you to make project on associated topics in traffic engineering. In spot speed, We discussed regarding various methods available to perform the test, Our team practically performed test and established a speed limit zone near a school. Coming to speed delay time survey, we conducted a survey at a selected stretch and came out with solutions to the problems faced by the vehicle users using that stretch.
Traffic congestion have a big impact on our personal life, career, future and even our safety. it causes stress, annoy and frustrate us. the traffic jams burns fuel at a higher rate .
The high fuel consumption hiked fares for public means and it also contributes greatly to the amount of emissions of greenhouse gases that create air pollution and eventually global warming.
we trying here partially to solve this problem in critical segments such as bridge, viaduct or tunnel etc. by using Excel simulation for Flow – Density relationship.

OPTIMIZED SOLUTIONS FOR RESOLVING TRAFFIC CONGESTION AT UNIVERSITY CIRCLEIAEME Publication
In today’s world, due to globalization, transportation becomes one of the essential need of human being .In developing countries like India, where the population is going on increasing which leads to the serious traffic issues .In city, Pune which would be the metro-city in next some days, is facing a huge traffic problems Hence it is necessary to do a traffic study of the city to provide designed, planned and cost effective road transportation system. In this paper, traffic data is counted and analysis of data is done with the help of software PTV VISTRO for signal optimization. Also, the other improvements are suggested. The main factors influencing the traffic problem are type of traffic, seasons, population accumulated in the area, direction of flow, parking, foot path availability, the width of the road, connectivity to the different locations and value of area etc. The aim of this paper is to identify the problems creating the traffic and providing solutions for effective transportation through the city.

Time is scarce and any time spent in traffic is a waste of time. Our choices and their sequences decides what can and cannot be achieved within the time window available to us. The time at which you start your journey influences the time you would take to complete(?) the journey. We currently have all the tools and technologies available for making real time decisions. The Plan, Do , Check and Act (PDCA) cycle was used to make a logical approach to decision making considering traffic conditions in the city of Berlin. Some directions for future are proposed .
The rate of growth and the duration of growth decides on where any individual or organization would be after certain periods . The presentation shows the value achieved vis a vis the static level for periodic growths of 5% ,6% ,7% , 8%, 9% and 10% . These could be used as reference points for deciding on the proportion of resources to be deployed . When all resources grow at same time, the value is taken at 100 . Different resources may grow at different rate and can referenced with the associated graph e.g. 20 % growing at 10% would require referring to the 10% growth graph and 30 % growing at 7% would require the reference at the 7 % graph . These graphs can be looked in relative fashion also wherein a base level could be taken for all related calculations. Google sheets has been used for the data and graph.

Advances in technology and the introduction of innovative implants and prosthetics have further propelled the market growth. Additionally, government initiatives aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure and the increasing prevalence of lifestyle diseases have led to an upward trend in orthopedic surgeries, thereby fueling the market demand for these devices.
2. What traffic congestion does
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Reduces vehicle speed
Increases travel time
Reducing flow of vehicles
Increases Queue Length
Increase chances of traffic jams
Wastage of fuel
Negative impact on environment
Negative impact on health due to pollution
Increases frustration
Adds avoidable costs to individuals , states and country
Recurring traffic congestion leads to recurring costs as well as raises the demand for fuel
For the same traffic ,wider roads help in reducing traffic congestion
Width of roads within city is influenced by the infrastructure along the roads
3. Rough Calculation of Costs
An Example
Petrol Price = Rs 80 / ltr ,Running average= 20km/ltr
Therefore Cost/ km = Rs 80/20 = Rs 4
Assuming 10 km travel (both ways)
In Obstruction free Traffic (with traffic signals)
Non productive time of 30 mins will cost Rs 40 (and no income
during travel)
In Traffic congestion (with traffic signals)
Non productive time of 40 mins will cost Rs 40+ ? (extra cost) (and
no income during travel)
Inconveniences : Delay or Missing important meeting/events , avoidable apologies ,
emergency challenges for patients, late start/end of planned events impacting many people,
postponing/cancelling planned events, little time for other activities/work , increased vehicle
maintenance etc.
4. Rough Calculation of Costs contd..
Assuming a flow of 1000 vehicles/hour on a given stretch
(Unobstructed movement)
Assuming 10 mins of extra time (in Traffic congestion) costs an
additional Rs 5 / vehicle
So 10 mins of extra time for 1000 vehicles to cost – Rs5000 (extra
costs)
Assuming same traffic 14 hours, the total costs per day – 5000*14 – Rs
70,000 (extra costs)
For 365 days – Rs 2,55,50,000 (extra costs)
(i.e. total extra cost of fuel purchased annually by the travelling
community using a particular stretch of road on daily basis)
These extra costs are recurring annually
Note:-Health and environment related costs are not being considered
in this example. Neither is potential loss of income.
Can these additional costs be minimised or eliminated ?
5. Recurring costs
Shops
Encroachments
Houses
Physical constraints
creating congestion and
reducing flow of vehicles
Assuming overall 100 feet length and 10 feet width of obstructing area – 1000 square feet
Assuming market price of Rs 15000 per square feet for shops, houses and encroachments
on a particular stretch of road
Total value of shops, houses, encroachments etc.= Rs 1,50,00,000
Whereas Total annual recurring fuel costs = Rs 2,55,50,000 (extra)
Removing the obstructions should removes the annual recurring extra fuel costs
6. A Solution
Buying out and running down the obstructing constructions
and handing over the freed space to city authorities for
road widening
– By Individuals
– By Companies under Corporate Social Responsibility
– By citizen groups ,NGOs etc
– Through crowd sourcing
Space along the length of roads can be used for putting up
advertisements to recover some or all the costs
Certain entities can use crowd sourcing to build a fund that can
be utilised for road widening projects
Even local market associations can come together to fund the
road widening if the accessibility to their shops and offices is
found to improve after doing the same
Overall any time saved makes more time available to do other things
Also reduces the burden on pocket ,health , environment and mind
Nation too benefits
