Experimental Investigation on Effect the Warm Mix Asphalt WMA Using Zyco Ther...ijtsrd
Roads are the backbone of countrys development, however the excessive stage of emission generated in paving traditional bituminous pavements is usually a most important concern. For decades, Hot Mix Asphalt HMA had a top hand in pavement development all over the world. Use of reclaimed asphalt pavement RAP helps keep herbal assets and money. The share of RAP that can be utilized correctly in hot mix recycling is specifically dictated by means of sensible considerations. To keep away from deterioration of the aged binder, RAP ought to no longer be uncovered to pretty excessive temperatures. This learn about investigated the feasibility of the usage of a warm mix asphalt WMA additive Hot combine asphalt was once convenient to produce, however required excessive temperatures to be maintained at some point of transportation and laying. As HMA manufacturing includes high energy consumption, manufacturing of bituminous combine with decrease temperatures the usage of specific technique is developed which is labeled as Warm Mix Asphalt Technology. In the existing study, ZycoTherm additive, has been used in one of a kind dosages at exceptional temperatures to put together heat combine asphalt in the laboratory. ZycoTherm additive can be used with an ideal dosage of 0.07 by means of weight of bitumen at 135 , mixing temperature for WMA, and 30 RAP with 70 virgin aggregates containing 0.07 ZT WMA at 135 , offers higher balance and overall performance than different mixes. Hence, 30 70 is the most superior blend. Evaluation of strength and performance characteristics of cold mix bitumen us...IJLT EMAS
An attempted has been made to evaluate the strength
and performance characteristics of cold mix bitumen using
reclaimed asphalt. An experimental result obtained from
laboratory testing of the physical and mechanical parameters of
the recycled material, in which the material from the existing
pavement layers were analyses. The air void content, Marshall
stability and flow of the recycled mixtures were investigated. The
tests were performed on the road base mixtures incorporating
reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) with bituminous emulsion. It
was observed that the reclaimed asphalt was having impact
strength of 10%, crushing strength of 8.2%. It is significant to
note that the reclaimed aggregate which was subjected to loading
condition already was still showing very good strength properties.
The maximum stability obtained from optimum binder content
was 384 kg which is a very good value for a cold mix made up of
reclaimed asphalt aggregate. The flow value obtained was also
5.06 mm as observed. The aim of the tests was to evaluate the
properties of the mixes in terms of the recycled aggregates.
Satisfactory results were obtained.

Bituminous Pavement Recycling – Effective Utilization of Depleting Non-Renewa...theijes
Bituminous pavement recycling is an effective and worldwide proven technique of conserving Energy, Environment and Economy while ensuring maintenance and preservation of roadway network. In the pavement recycling process, the materials from deteriorated pavements known as Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), is partially or fully reused in fresh construction. The concept of RAP lies in restoring the physico-chemical properties of the aged bitumen to its original and at the same time to enhance the mechanical properties and strength of the aged binder. This paper gives a brief overview of various recycling methods of bituminous pavement including (1) Hot mix recycling, (3) Hot-in-place recycling, (3) Cold central plant recycling, (4) Coldin-place recycling, and (5) Full depth reclamation, their advantages, selection considerations, review of mix design procedure, unresolved issues related to their use and future scope in Indian context.
Rheological Characterization of Bituminous Binder containing Wax based Warm M...IOSR Journals
Warm mix asphalt (WMA) has been gaining increasing popularity in recent years due to energy
savings and environmental benefits. The mechanism of WMA is to use some additives or technologies to reduce
the viscosity of bitumen and to modify the rheological behavior of bituminous binders, and thus improve the
workability of the mixture at lower temperature. In this study a paraffin wax based additive Sasobit is used to
reduce the viscosity and thus mixing and compaction temperature during hot mix asphalt production. VG 30
grade bitumen binder is used in the present study. Sasobit is added in the dose of 2 percent, 3 percent and 4
percent by weight of binder. Brookfield viscometer is used to determine the viscosity of the binders with and
without sasobit at test temperature of 90, 120, 150 and 180OC. Dynamic Shear Rheometer is used to study the
Rheological behavior of the modified n unmodified binders. The study shows that the mixing, laying and
compaction temperatures can be reduced considerably when sasobit is added to the binder. Laying and
compaction temperature can be as low as 80OC with VG-30 bitumen when 4 percent sasobit is added and due to
this there will be an overall reduction in quantity of emission of pollutants when the bituminous mix is made at
this low temperature.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

10. Design of cold mix
Hence there is no universally accepted mi design method for cold
mix technology
Aggregates selection
Aggregate which possess sufficient physical properties that are
chosen.
Also we have to keep in view the availability and economic
consideration
25/05/17 10
11. Selection of aggregate by grading
The properties of bituminous mix are very much dependent on
aggregates and their grain size distribution.
There are 2 types open graded and dense graded
Usually dense graded is used because of high frictional
resistance & greater load transfer.
Theoretical gradation method is used for aggregate gradation
By Fuller & Thompson equation
P= 100(d/D)
x
P= percent passing D= maximum size aggregate
d= normal size of aggregate x= 0.45
25/05/17 11

13. Proportioning of aggregates
Usually aggregates are proportioned based on
Trial and error method
Routhfutch method
Triangulation chart method
After proportioning of aggregates mixing is carried out to obtained
correct blending
25/05/17 13
14. Emulsion selection(binder)
Bitumen emulsion is a mixture of water and bitumen with the help
of emulsifier.
There are 3 types of bitumen emulsion
Rapid setting
Medium setting
Slow setting
These are only for spraying purpose to be used in Tack Coat and
Prime Coat application. IRC mentions about tailor made bitumen
emulsions for appropriate cold mix design.
Types of binder produced by BITchem company

15. 25/05/17
But in this method of cold mix technology BITchem company
provides tailor made binder which is prepared by BITchem
company itself.
15
16. The blending of aggregate of 13.2mm and11.2mm of nominal
size in ratio of 2:1.
Hot mix plant is used for mixing of aggregate with binder
without heating
If required optimum water content of 1%by the weight of
aggregate is added to make aggregate wet
Then cold mix binder of 7% by the weight of aggregate is added
to the wet aggregate and mixed it for 2 minutes
25/05/17
Procedurefor preparation of cold mix asphalt
16
17. After proper mixing the cold mix is obtained which is
brown in colour and it is transferred to trolley
Later the obtained cold mix is placed on pavement and
rolling is done by using 8-10 tonnes of roller for proper
compaction.
Cold mix asphalt is also prepared in site itself by using
concrete mixture
25/05/17 17
Procedure continued....
20. Advantages
Reduction of cost of construction
Prevention of energy
Prevention of environment
It can be laid in wet condition also

21. Paper articles on cold mix technology
Thiruvanathapuram (Trivandrum )
The local self government department has started to adopt
green road technology by using emulsion based cold mix
technology in Kerala state.
The Vengodu-Cheroor road, near Pothencode has become first
stretch to use cold mix technology
Guwahati
From Green Buildings to Green Roads, Assam has begun its
journey towards becoming one of the greenest and cleanest
states in the country by using cold mix technology in which
natural rubber latex is blended with bitumen emulsion.25/05/17 21
22. Assam is a innovative state in the country to have used cold
mix technology in rural road construction and has so far
constructed about 1500 kms
Green road construction project is under taken by CRRI &
BITchem company
More green roads in India
There will be more 'green' roads across the country with the
help of a unique technology developed by Assam-based
Bitchem company.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently appreciated the cold
mix technology.
25/05/17 22
23. Cold in place recycling surface method
It is another type of Green road concept
It is on site pavement recycling method in which
existing asphalt mixed with stabilizing agent
without heating to produce restore pavement
layer
25/05/17 23
24. Cold-in-Place (CIR) recycling is a method of removing and
reusing the existing asphalt surface. It involves grinding off
the top 2 to 5 inches of the existing asphalt surface and mixing
the crushed asphalt with an asphalt recycling agent, and
placing it back down with a paver
cold-in-place process is typically performed using a “train” of
equipment which includes an emulsion tanker, milling
machine, sometimes a crusher and a screen, and an asphalt
paver and a combination of pneumatic and vibratory rollers.
25/05/17 24
26. Procedure
Milling : It is used to remove the thin surface layer of the
pavement usually 2 to 4 inch
Gradation control : The removed material is further crushed and
graded to produced maximum particle size. If needed new
materials are added to the recycled materials.
Adding additive : usually additives such as Portland cement, fly
ash, lime are used.
Mixture placement : Obtained graded material and additive are
mixed in pug mill.
25/05/17 26
27. 25/05/17
Compaction : The placed mixture is compacted to desired density.
Compaction is done by pneumatic tyre roller and vibratory steel
wheel roller.
27
29. Advantage
Heating of materials is not required hence reduce in fuel
consumption and emission of green of gases is reduced.
In other rehabilitation technique such as hot mix asphalt and
warm mix asphalt the aggregate and bitumen are required to
heated.
By using existing material the need of additional aggregates,
bituminous concrete is reduced
Hence mixing is carried out on road itself , it saves nearly 40 –
50% of energy and cost
25/05/17 29
30. Green roads conclusion
For the production of aggregate, GHG emission range is 2.5to10 kg
CO2/t and for asphalt it is 221kg CO2/t. By using green road construction
technologies we can reduce GHG emission.
Green roads are made in concept of recycle, reuse and renewable of
materials hence by using different eco friendly technologies we can
reduce the consumption natural resources.
In cold mix technology heating process is eliminated, hence it can
prevent environment pollution and also it do not cause any accident for
labours who are working
And in cold in place recycling technology reusing of aggregates is
carried out hence it prevent our natural resources and also prevents the
emission of GHG

In construction of flexible pavements by using hot mix technology which consumes more energy, causes environmental pollutions and also effects the health of the workers
. Recently , Hon’able Supreme Court Of India had to take stringent decision to minimize the pollution by issuing directives to close hot mix plants in and around Delhi, which are supposed to be the source of environment degradation.
CRRI developed cold mix technology and provided regular support for BITchem for implementing technology
