  2. 90% of your long term happiness is not predicted by your external world (your job, your surroundings, etc.) but by the way your brain processes the world.
  3. If we strive for success in order to be happier, we never get there because once we achieve the goal, we change the goal. I got an A, now I’m going for the A+. I’m now the Assistant Manager, now I’m going for Manager.
  4. However, our brains work in the opposite direction. By raising positivity, the brain now has the “Happiness” advantage, which enables it to perform at much higher capacity and productivity than if the brain is neutral, negative or stressed.
  5. Business effects of the happiness advantage
  6. Dopamine – Which floods your system when you’re positive, does 2 things: Makes you feel happier and turns on learning centers in your brain.
  7. 5 ways to help yourself – action to the Happiness Advantage
  8. 3 Gratitudes – 3 new ones each day for 21 days. Retrain brain to scan world for positivity first
  9. Journaling – Write about a positive experience each day, allowing your brain to relive it
  10. Exercise – Teaches your brain that your behavior matters
  11. Meditation – Get over the cultural ADHD that we’ve been creating by focusing on just the task at hand
  12. Random Acts of Kindness – send at least 1 positive or thank you email to someone in their social support network
  13. Learn to scan the world for the positives, not the negatives
  14. Create a ripple effect of positivity. Just like how paying for the Starbucks behind you can spark a chain of paying it forward, paying a compliment can spark a chain of smiles. And it will come full circle.
  15. By intentionally practicing habits that promote positivity, the dopamine will flow, opening those parts of your brain that make you feel happier and turn on the learning centers and productivity in your brain.
