What is a Cluster?
Details
 A Cluster:
is two or more computers (called nodes) that
work together to perform a task.
Differences between
H/W and S/W Cluster
Hard Ware Cluster Soft Ware Cluster

  Expensive Hardware Inexpensive Hardware

Expensive HA Software Inexpensive HA Software

       Complex Simple

   Exclusive Systems All Systems
Major Software
Cluster Types
1- High Availability
 2- Load Balancing
3- High Performance
1- High availability (Failover Clusters) :

When any node fails the cluster automatically fail-over services
from the node down to another.
Cont. High Availability :

Used for
1- Databases
2- Fileserver

The need for High Availability Cluster (HA)
- Cost per Minute for downtime
2-Load balancing
- Front end dispatching node

- Pool of inexpensive
    back-end servers

- Redirect transactions
  so NO one system is
   overloaded

- Node failures in
 a load-balancing cluster
 are not visible from
clients outside the cluster.

Used For
1- Dispatching Web Traffic
3-High performance

A high-performance cluster allows applications to work in
parallel, therefore enhancing the performance of the
      applications.

Used For :
- Large computational problems
