World Trade Center Expansion
The World Trade Center stood to be built as a reflection of peace with a fierce ambition and
disciplined achievement on a massive scale. The statement of these buildings was to construct an
uplifting stamina of downtown Manhattan. Its purpose created both a negative and positive aspect in
its construction to help those in need of it, but it also caused some damage in its creation. Its massive
scale as buildings allowed the people of New York City to see it as a symbol of expansion in that
particular area of Downtown Manhattan from it reign being the peace towers to the construction of the
Freedom tower. The reasons as to why the Twin Towers was an expansion for downtown Manhattan it
allowed the extended invitation for international trade and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While under Mr. Tobin administration he created the World Trade Center department. This department
would be responsible for development, planning, construction, and organization of the World Trade
Center. Mr. Tobin appointed Mr. F. Tozzoli for the job because of his hardworking and educational
background. Mr. Tozzoli was a man of action and a dreamer and conducted himself in many project to
oversee the success. He need to find a successful team to head out the project WTC and he hired tough
guy Malcolm Levy to direct the staff of different engineers and architects. Mr. Tozzoli felt he found
his team because he stated If you were going to build the world s biggest project, you have to have a
tough team (Gillespie 41). He went on to find a new architect for the project after firing the
architectural firm Skidmore, Owens, and Merrill. The Port Authority had finally found Minoru
Yamasaki from Settle to lead the program for the trade center. They gave him free range on the
construction and design but this was his first tall creation. Yamasaki has done some project before but
nothing on a massive scale like the World Trade Center. Yamasaki went through dozens of draw ups
and began creating models. First it was two buildings then a set of models one tall building then

Blue Lawsuit Research Paper
Lawsuits can come from out of the blue. One day life is good, and the next, someone is taking you to
court. This statement sounds like an exaggeration only because no particular lawsuit case is presented
here to back it up. However, few people get themselves sued intentionally. It happens because of an
accident, a mistake, or a situation that escalates into a lawsuit. To the defendant, its unexpectedness
does make it seem as though it came from out of the blue. So why do lawsuits happen? Why do people
sue? Here are three common reasons:
A Person Sues for a Legitimate Reason
If the mail delivery person slips on black ice in your driveway that was created because you allowed
water runoff from your basement sump pump to flow across it and freeze, ... Show more content on

The reason is they know they have a good chance at winning.
The Internet is filled with law firm websites that advertise their areas of practice. Many have blogs
that educate the public on why they should pursue a lawsuit and how to go about it. These lawyers
provide free initial consultations and take their fee from the damages should they win the case. For
some individuals, the opportunity is irresistible.
A Person Sues for Emotional Reasons
This often happens because the defendant mishandled the incident that led to the lawsuit. For example,
suppose your dog bolts out of the door when you open it to get the mail, and your dog bites a
pedestrian in the street. The pedestrian becomes furious and freely vents his anger toward you. You
react in kind and get into a heated argument with the victim. This person not only has a case against
you technically, your handling of the incident gave him a powerful emotional motivation to go
through with a lawsuit:

Reflection On African American History
Over the course of this semester, I was introduced to many people, ideas, writings, and discussions
that sparked my interest and enlightened me on African American history. However, I feel like this
was just the beginning of my journey of learning the history of my people, as there is still so much out
there to be brought to the surface. Prior to taking this course, I was always ignorant on the topic of
African American history and simply made the connection to slavery. Additionally, I was unaware of
other black activist, movements, and struggles that I had the chance to witness for the first time in this
class. I came to a realization of how deprived of this information I was, because other historic events
have been deemed more important. A quote that stuck with me throughout the course that was made
by Arthur Schomburg was, ... African history and negro history, are the missing pages of world history
. At the start of this semester we discuss an issue that has poisoned the dynamic of society in the
United States since the beginning, white supremacy. For centuries, members of the white community
have simply used the color of their skin to attain and remain in power. In my opinion, those that use
their white privilege to partake in white supremacy are the only ones who benefit from this poison.
White supremacy continues to be fueled in the United States, and plays just as big of a factor in today
s world as it did many years ago. There is no retaliation for uproars or

The Character of Falstaff in Henry IV Essay
The Character of Falstaff in Henry IV
None of Shakespeare s plays are read more than the first and second parts of Henry IV. Particularly in
Henry IV Part I, Shakespeare writes chronologically historical and interesting to follow events. The
reader follows the chain of events with devotion and content eager to find out what happens next.
Even though the hero of the play is Prince Henry, or Hal as we know him, the reader may find
themselves more focused on Falstaff, one of the other major characters that Shakespeare created for
comical relief. He was a witty, self conscious, self centered companion of the Prince. King Henry even
criticized his eldest son for keeping company with such a low man. Even though Hal is ... Show more

Prince Hal was the hero of the play, but Falstaff was the character to follow. (Johnson 235)
Hal s opposite was a peer to him, the younger of the Percy s Hotspur. Shakespeare properly named
this character Hotspur for he was indeed a character with a hot temper and passionate ideas and
actions. He longed for a one on one match with the Prince, which he did get at the end of the play.
Unfortunately for himself, he lost it and was eventually eliminated. Yet I would have to agree with
Johnson once again that Falstaff received the center attention of the reader.( Johnson 235 )
Sir John, or as he was commonly known in the play as Falstaff, was a knight to the King Henry. He
was a man of large proportions, indulging into the sweet things in life. He was a man of low morale,
as Johnson had noted in his essay. He was a coward and the viewer got to see that in the robbery scene
that was aforementioned above. He cared for nothing in life but to satisfy his needs. He preyed upon
the poor, he was always ready to cheat and lie. Yet we have grown an attachment to him, for he is a
character that we learn to like. Michael Goldman highlighted that point in his Shakespeare and the
Energies of Drama. When at the end of the Boar s Head Tavern scene, when the viewer learns that the
Sheriff is outside looking for the robbers, Prince Hal defends the fat knight. However, we find Falstaff
soundly asleep behind an array. This scene

Light And Colour In The Starry Night
Light and Colour Vincent Van Gogh s Starry Night
The Starry Night is an oil on canvas painting by the Dutch post impressionist painter Vincent van
Gogh. Painted in June, 1889, it depicts the view (with the notable addition of an idealized village)
from the east facing window of his asylum room at Saint Rémy de Provence, just before sunrise. The
dominating colour palette in the painting is dark blue and black hues oppose the bright whites and the
yellows in the sky. The size of the painting is 29 in. by 36 ¼ in. The current location of the painting is
in the galleries of Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
The artist keeps his main focus of the canvas to be the night sky, keeping a part of it as a village,

He attempts to understand in great detail about the stars. As he wrote to his sister Willemien van Gogh
from Arles,
It often seems to me that the night is even more richly coloured than the day, coloured with the most
intense violets, blues and greens. If you look carefully, you ll see that some stars are lemony, others
have a pink, green, forget me not blue glow. And without labouring the point, it s clear to paint a starry
sky it s not nearly enough to put white spots on blue black. (678, 14 September 1888)
Van Gogh discovered new colours everywhere, especially at night. Peripatetically, this show explores
his special relationship with darkness. It provides a view of the tenderness, urgency and brilliance at
the core of his art, as well as the openness to nature that set it

The Existence Of Human Knowledge
Humans go through many events and friends, relatives, and acquaintances tell each other information
about a dear loved one or a dear friend. It is up to each individual to know if the information that have
been told is either true or a rumor. Humans tend to mix up the truth with small lies, in order for the
information to be more entertaining. The reason humans mix up the truth is because they love to be
entertained. Throughout life, it is important for humans to recognize the limitations of human
knowledge because humans have no certain way to know if a human is lying, telling the truth, or
knowing what we know. There are body characteristics we do when humans lie or tell the truth. Even
knowing a human s body moment proves nothing about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having a high reputation does not mean someone is inferior in knowledge than others. In previous
times, a group of people was made to believe that people with high rankings were intelligent. If you
were not intelligent how would you be able to run a government or make wonderful poems? In The
Apology of Socrates Socrates was in search of finding wise people like artisans and politicians to ask
about their opinion about the Delphic Oracle. Socrates discovers politicians believe they are wise, but
in reality, they know nothing. Poets and the craftsmen had wonderful creations, but could not explain
their work with knowledge. Socrates concluded it was not intelligence these men had achieved their
works, but they had inspiration (Plato, Five Dialogues 26 27). It is evident, Socrates proved himself
wrong in believing high ranked people are the wisest. The people with high reputation became who
they are with pure luck and inspiration, which means it does not require knowledge to run a
government or create a masterpiece of art. Providing various information does not signify that an
individual is telling the truth. An individual could be providing information for personal gains. For
example, one may desire to maintain their marvelous dignity, be executed, or want to be where the
attention is. In the short story, In the Grove , there were testimonies and confessions about the crime.

Abstract
Being a successful superintendent involves not only making difficult decisions, but making choices
that are in the best interest of the school board, teachers, student and the community. The focus of this
exercise is to identify research supported strategies that can be applied effectively to assist in the
development of a school district improvement plan. Specifically, this paper will provide
supplementary support related to a school improvement initiative focusing on improving the quality
and proficiency of student writing.
Ed.D Comprehensive Examination Written Prompt
A necessity for a school system devoted to sustained improvement of the teaching and learning
process is the creation of a comprehensive school improvement plan. The benefit of such a plan is that
it provides quality control, internal conformity, communication linkages and financial assistance
necessary for ensuring sustained improvement towards meeting the school district s vision, mission
and goals. The improvement plan selected will focus on student writing skills. This plan will reflect
the data and research necessary for successful implementation and will be linked to the Nebo School
district s mission and vision, specifically Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC)
standards 2.2 and 3.1 and the Utah Core Curriculum Standards. The school improvement plan will

Is A Dystopia Good Or Bad
Imagine your society was burning down. Fire everywhere. Every thing in chaos. People running
around like chickens with their heads cut off. Can you imagine that. Well that is similar, in it s own
ways, to a dystopia. You can basically have dystopia if everything is wrong and out of order.
A dystopia is a society that was made and planned out with good intentions and thoughts on it. Even
though it had good thoughts and all, it turns out to be a complete fail. Every thing is wrong. A dystopia
can actually be frightening. With all the scary side effects from it. Just think of a dystopia like this,
you are building a boat and you have finally finished after a few months of hard planning and
building. You go out to the water to test

The Songs I Ever Heard At A Young Age Of 11
This song is listed number one because it was one of the first Beatles songs I ever heard at a young
age of 11. The Beatles were a very spiritual group and it shows in their work. Many of their songs
were based around love and positive energy. The song was originally written by Paul McCartney in
order to guide Julian Lennon, John s son, who was neglected by his father after he began dating Yoko
Ono. My father started dating my step mother around the same age I heard the song. Certain lyrics
presented seem like they speak to me personally, Remember to let her into your heart. Then you can
start to make it better. During the time, I was so young and did not really understand why my father
decided to start dating again shortly after my parents divorce. It was a very hard time for to choose
whether to accept and support my dad s new girlfriend and life. Hey Jude would relate to the topic of
choices and decisions, because change is a very hard thing to accept and when and how you accept it
can vary based upon the person.
2Pac I Wonder If Heaven Gotta Ghetto I Wonder If Heaven Gotta Ghetto is one of my favorite 2Pac
songs, from one of my favorite artist and who I believe to be the best rapper ever. I first heard the song
when I was 13. Different from most rappers now a days, Tupac s songs have plenty of meaning and
significance about everyday problems. In the song, 2Pac talks about the struggles of black youth, and
how they are forced to do certain things in order to

Essay about Introduction of HIPPA Standards for Employees
Using the Foundation of Knowledge Model, I would explain to the vice president that knowledge
acquisition, which occurs through education and research, occurred in our department during a
morning huddle, where HIPPA standards were first introduced to members of our department
(McGonigle Mastrian, 2012). Through an introduction of what HIPPA meant for healthcare providers,
staff learned that HIPPA meant confidentiality of protected health information ( Health insurance,
2013). This meant staff were to only access patient information for patients they were taking care of
and they needed to be cautious with whom and where patient information was discussed. All staff
were required to complete a learning module and pass the module and ... Show more content on

Knowledge processing is the final step where knowledge is gathered or collected, perceived,
transmitted, and stored (McGonigle Mastrian, 2012). Staff gathered information about the importance
of HIPPA and the consequences of not following HIPPA. Knowing the importance and consequences
and what steps need to be taken to protect patient information, nurses are consciously aware of ways
to prevent violation of HIPPA. As new knowledge is acquired, techniques to prevent violation of
HIPPA will continue to arise and practice to prevent violation with continue to change to maintain
patient privacy.
Dear Vice President,
I would like to reassure you that my staff are very compliant with HIPPA. Since HIPPA was
introduced, staff have completed an annual HIPPA competency and signed a form stating their
understanding and willing to comply with HIPPA. It is evident that staff are taking measures to
prevent violations of HIPPA. In the hallways if a computer happens to be logged in with no user in
sight, staff members passing by will immediately log off the computer. Even though staff are
constantly reminded to never keep their computers logged in, there are instances where users are
logged in, yet they are no where to be found. We will continue to remind staff of the importance of
logging off. With the implementation of bedside reporting and interdisciplinary

Executive Compensation Package, Stock Options
Executive compensation packages have been used both successfully and unsuccessfully to solve the
principal agent problem facing corporations these days. In this study, we focus on a specific element
of an executive compensation package, stock options. The use of stock options as a form of senior
executive compensation has been studied extensively to be a testament to the success of it s ability to
realign executive with shareholder interests. However, as the study reveals, prior to the Sarbanes
Oxley Act of 2002, there were many problems with the usage of stock options within corporations that
had a weak corporate governance structure. Problems included executive s incentives to focus on short
run profit, take on risky business strategies, and manipulations (legal and illegal) to fulfill executive
self interests. While it is difficult to measure the true effect of stock option s influence on executive
performance and behaviors, we see that the problems with stock option usage far outweigh the
benefits of stock options prior to the implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
In the ideal corporate governance system, the definition of a good senior management executive is one
that takes into consideration shareholders needs above his own. They work diligently to run the
corporation both on a day to day basis and to ensure its success in the long run. However, there are
often many incentives that disalign the interests between the shareholders (principal) and executives

Essay On Angle Analysis Paper
Introduction: The group of Kayla Morabito, Garrett Lewis, Rebecca Oviedo and Zach Prow were
tasked with measuring the PLM building on Main Campus at Wake tech. The first step was to find the
building then measure perpendicularly out thirty feet using a string and measuring tape. Starting from
the ground, at zero feet, one group member held the protracted while the other looked at the angle
created by the top of the building. The group members would rotate places to double check the angle
measure to ensure accuracy. The same process would occur at two and four feet off the ground all still
at thirty feet away; now a group member would have to hold the tape measure tightly with tension.
The purpose is to find the angle measure created by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the four feet measurement, the angle was easier to see therefor the height was a little easier to
calculate versus the ground measurement. Although these numbers were in the general area, for all
three calculations some error was present due to estimations of the angle as well as holding the
protractor. This was difficult because it needed to be in the exact same spot for all calculations since a
group member needed to hold it, the proctor did move slightly throwing off the numbers only a few
degrees. The difficulties in this project was obtaining the data from the ground because it was difficult
to get underneath the protractor to see the angle; someone was on the ground looking up at the
building leaving room for interpretation of the angle measure. This process could have been done
differently by choosing a spot with a lower vantage point. For example, if a group was to measure this
building again and there were stairs, to stand at the bottom of the stairs while still on the ground level
that the building is on. This way that the calculations are still measuring from the ground to the top of
the building, but it would be a lot easier to see underneath the angle versus lying on the

The Importance Of The Arts In Education
As our education budget continues to diminish, our art programs have received the brunt of the
cutbacks. In such schools, the arts exist in unappreciative, and even hostile environments. We should
be fighting to keep art programs in the education system because they have been an essential part of
American culture, they illuminate truths perceptually and more immediate than the spoken word, and
they offer an indispensable educational dimension to our students.
Throughout American history, artistic representations have portrayed a message of religion, racial,
gender, political, class, and many other perspectives through the artist s eyes. Today, the arts serve as
historical documents to help people better understand the world and our history. An example of such a
time is when the artist David Gilmour Blythe helped bring the sheer brutality of the Civil War into the
light. Blythe s Lincoln Crushing the Dragon of Rebellion (1862) incorporated images that helped
people visually relate to what was happening in the war. The dragon represents the rebellion of the
Confederate States, as suggested by the painting s title. The pillars having been destroyed by the
dragon alludes to the rebellion destroying the foundation and support of our nation. As Lincoln poses
to strike the dragon, you can see he is chained to a stump labeled constitution and democracy. The
chains handicapping Lincoln appear to be a critique of the constraints of the democratic process and
the limits to

Taking a Look at Civil Engineers
The job of a civil engineer is to fix, or build many of our modern conveniences including bridges.
Skill in math (specifically measurement and angles) is required for the most part. It is a risky job
though because if you design something wrong, you will pay big. Civil engineers are a soul of a cities
construction.
Civil Engineers have many job duties because many workers depend on them. Civil engineers have a
lot of variables in their building including construction cost, and government regulations. They also
preform many tests to determine how they will build on the area, and what the structure is built with (
Civil Engineers. Career). The job requires provide or present findings, cost estimates, and submit
permits or applications. They manage many workers including Civil engineering technicians,
architects, and construction workers ( Civil Engineers. U.S.). Civil engineers have very important job
duties because if their structures fail that will not be good for them.
The work environments of a civil engineer can vary widely. Civil engineers Most of the time work
near major cities, but sometimes they work in remote or foreign areas. Offices, labs, factories and the
actual sites are work environments of many civil engineers. In offices they typically develop plans for
a survey. If the Civil engineers visit the site of the job they usually take photos and measurements
there ( Civil Engineers Encyclopedia 529). Civil engineers stay indoors mostly at their offices ( Civil

The Pizza Ovens And Fryers Make It Extremely Hot At Sam s...
The pizza ovens and fryers make it extremely hot at Sam s Pizza. All three pizza ovens are set to 550
degrees and, and all three fryers are set to 400 degrees. In the summer the temperature can reach over
100 degrees in the pizza shop. Working an 8 hour shift in these temperatures can be a grueling
experience. The heat in the shop matched with the buffet and non stop pizza order phone calls make it
even worse. I remember the first time working a long shift when I started working at Sam s. It was
harder than I would have ever imagined. The heat really affected my ability to work efficiently. After a
few hours I could tell I wasn t working as hard as I was at the beginning of my shift. Working tired
and hungry in that heat really drained a lot of my energy. It made it hard to communicate effectively
and be nice while talking to costumers.
I m not the only one who has had bad long shift experiences. A new 16 year old employee who started
working at Sam s pizza in August didn t have the best experience on his first day at the job. The
employee worked a six hour shift and about five hours in he passed out while he was rolling pizza
dough. He was completely fine after about five minutes. We gave him water, and he was back to work
right away. He told us the reason he passed out was because he had an anxiety attack. It was extremely
hot that day, and I think the heat played a big role in making him pass out.

In the speech and language section students need to ask meaning of words. This determines whether or
not the child will be involved in the learning process in a classroom setting. The student must describe
pictures and experiences. They must use appropriate verb tenses and grammar. This will ensure a core
of knowledge for the kindergarten curriculum. Also, the student must recognize simple jokes, riddles,
and absurdities. (Gisler and Eberts). The student s gross motor coordination should also be an
important factor in determining the child s readiness for kindergarten. They must be able to walk
downstairs using alternate feet, and hop on one foot; this is to check the child s balance and ability to
walk. They must jump along a six foot line with both feet. The student needs to be able to walk scissor
steps across a line. Last, but not least, student must be able to begin to skip alternating feet. These
evaluations are done in a few states nationwide. These evaluations do take place in certain districts in
the state of Mississippi and are administered by properly trained educators. This needs to become a
nationwide standard. (Williams) The next part of the evaluation should include fine motor
coordination including using scissors to cut a straight line. It seems like an easy task but as a
kindergarten teacher witnessing it first hand everyday; it is hard for students to complete this task.

it necessary for the Unites States to drop the atomic bombs on Japan? In my opinion, the United States

The Application Of Non Living Things Could Be Protected...
Introduction:
Non living things could be protected from pathogens by defence chemicals in the form of disinfectants
which are applied thinly on the objects and surfaces. For living things, their defence from pathogens
comes in the form of antibiotics and antiseptics, the former given intravenously or through oral
administration and the latter applied on the skin whatever the indented purpose may be but does still
meet the defence required if applied in the right doses(Lee et al).
Pathogens on the surface are eliminated physically by disinfectants. The mode of operation comes in
the form of chemicals, diluted or undiluted for cleaning and by heating; we have noticed this process
used in the milk preservation through pasteurisation whereby milk is heated at a very high temperature
to kill pathogens. The application of disinfectants varies widely in use for the different settings. For
healthcare cleaning to control and keep out pathogens, ethanol is the number one choice used to
disinfect and sanitise floors, operation surfaces and surfaces touched the most by people like doors
and door closing aids. The liquid based disinfectant normally gets rid of bacteria if it is in the right
dilutions or measurements. There are iodine and chlorine based disinfectants both targeting pathogens.
The latter is generally used in water treatment and food hygiene and the former widely used for
making surgical instruments to render them free from pathogens, thus sterilisation. Antimicrobial

What kind of a story do you think this will be? Talk within your group and then add your ideas in a
bubble chart. The name of the document you add to is on the Smart Board. Raise your hand if you are
the recorder for your group today. Remember to watch your timer so you are done in time. (Allow
students to discuss the question and add their ideas to the shared document.) Look at your ideas. I see
you all did a great job of inferring what kind of story you think it will be based on the short part I read
to you. (Discuss their various ideas). This story fits in with our habitat unit because it is a survival
story. People have to survive in their habitats, just like animals do. So, what do you think would
happen if you were picked up and dumped into an unknown habitat, like a tropical island, or a desert,
or in the middle of a huge old forest? With no adults, just you and your brothers and sisters. Could you
survive? (Let the question linger a few seconds). I m going to count down from 10 and when I hit zero
I want to see groups of three standing back to back waiting for instructions. Go. (When students are
ready proceed). When I say, go I want you to turn and face your partners and discuss exactly what you
three would need to do right away to stay alive if you were stranded together in the wild. Remember
what we have learned about what organisms need to survive. I have set the timer for five minutes. Go.
(When timer goes off, bring students back to a full group on the rug). I heard a lot of great ideas as I
walked around the room. Well done! Now, as I read the story to you, I want you to take special notice
of what these children do to survive. Would you have done the same thing? What would you have
done differently? What mistakes did they make? What

call the conceptual needs. I mean that the conceptualization should not be founded on a theory of the

know the historical conditions which motivate our conceptualization. We need a historical awareness

Was there a time that Regret came up because someone either did or said something? Regret leads to
life changing decisions. Many people make mistakes, however there will always be regret and wish

In The scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, the Narrator feels regret, which leads to how he thinks and treats
people.Think before you do something because later you might end up regretting it. The Narrator in
the story was selfish to his brother Doodle. He cared what people thought of him. Therefore, when he

Violent Crime And Property Crime
Abstract
In this paper it is going to discuss violent crime and property crime. It will be discussing the different
types of violent crimes and property crimes that exist. The differences between the two crimes and
there impact on the United States. The statistics of violent crime compared to property crime in the
year 2012. There are many things that may surprise you when it comes to the crime rate in 2012
compared to 2011 and before then.
Violent crime vs. Property crime I am going to begin by discussing the violent crime. There are 4 main
classes of violent crime. These classes consist of: Murder and Negligient Homicide, Forcible Rape,
Robbery and Aggravated Assault. These crimes are usually defined as offenses that include force or
the threat of force. The violent crimes are listed under the FBI s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)
program. There are other crimes which classify as violent crimes, these include: Burglary, Larceny
theft and Motor Vehicle theft. The FBI uses a system to classify crimes from the worst crime, Murder
and Negligient Homicide, being at the top of the list, and the least serious crime, Motor Vehicle theft,
being at the bottom of the list. One crime which is listed on both violent crimes and property crimes is
Arson, depending on the circumstances surrounding the offense at the time.
Murder and Negligient Homicide: The FBI classifies Murder and negligient homoicide as: when a
person is willfully killed by another. There

The Abolishment Of Slavery In Colonial America
After years of public momentum within Britain, Parliament abolished the British slave trade in 1807.
This was not the end, but in many ways, the beginning of what became a struggle toward the complete
abolishment of slavery throughout the Empire. This endeavor lasted well into the mid nineteenth
century as those within the planter class were not swayed by the moral arguments commonly utilized
by the abolitionist movement. While large efforts did revolve around preventing smuggling within the
coastal waters of Africa, Britain faced ensuing contention from many of its citizens who continued the
illegal importation of slaves into the British West Indies. This group had built fortunes upon the many
plantations in the Caribbean and were unwilling to give up their operations based primarily on
arguments of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Untold personal wealth was, either directly or indirectly, correlated to these intuitions of slavery, and
as described by Hilary Beckles in his writing on the colonial Caribbean, plantation culture was in
every respect symbolic of the signs of the times. These planters were not outliers from British culture,
but in innumerable ways were a precise representation of the Empire itself. Perhaps, it was in their
direct association to their fellow countrymen, that the planters within this region faced continual
notice from abolitionists. This was only magnified with the actuality that the planter group still
maintained the ownership of slaves, despite social pressures headed from abolitionist groups.
Regardless, many in Great Britain did not realize the degree to which the planter class had become
incorporated into all of society. While many plantation owners still did reside in the Caribbean, it had
become common for operations to be handed over to supervisors and administrators, thus creating a
group who were in fact quite isolated from the actuality of slave

Frankenstein In The 18th Century Essay
Satan has his companions, fellow devils, to admire and encourage him; but I am solitary and detested
(Mary Shelley). In Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein creates a monster who
refers to himself as Adam of your labours which also happens to be the first man created in the Bible.
The monster was abandoned by Victor and was left to teach himself and slowly discover what he is,
which slowly drives him to insanity. Gothic novelists such as Mary Shelley targeted to epitomize the
melancholy of the early 18th century throughout their writing. When the first wave of gothic literature
was started it was created as a refined joke. The second wave of gothic novelists, along with Mary

Since 2007 we have steadily be rising by 1% every year (Center for Disease Control). In addition we

Housing Persuasive Speech
Today, I am going to speak about the affordable housing in Pittsburgh .First let me tell about why the
affordable housing is preferred. People who live in affordable housing today want safe, decent housing
for the same reasons that we all do. The reasons are mainly to provide a nurturing environment to raise
their children. Another reason is to remain in the community where they were raised or to become part
of a community in which they want to settle. Finally, to live in an attractive, safe environment that
they can afford. People who need affordable housing are ones that are employed as secretaries, school
teachers, local government employees, restaurant workers and sales clerks. These workers need

The completed Eastside and Bond apartment complex in East Liberty is perched directly above the
MLK East Busway transit stop, and is a block from amenities like Target, Giant Eagle and a plethora

how city living can be extremely beneficial to residents of any income bracket: great public transit

Unfortunately for Pittsburghers of lower and middle income means, living in Eastside and Bond isn t

a group of affordable housing advocates are upset about it.

How Destruction Is Used As A Form Of Creation Everyday
I will use this chapter to look at the many ways destruction is used as a form of creation everyday in
western society and how we value it on a personal level. change is a natural and organic process, one
that is inherent with being human and of this world. Within this context, the change a person
personally experiences is meaningful. (Russell and Russell, p16). Change is fundamental to our
universe. Everything in the physical world is either growing or deteriorating and our human condition
could perhaps be said to be a constant process of slowing down or speeding up, in other words taking
control over this rate of change. The ability to control is seen as a valuable commodity and taking
control over elements in one s environment in even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, a portrait by Leonardo da Vinci exclusively focuses the viewer s attention on the end
result. The first thought when examining The Mona Lisa for example, is not about how much paint
was dried and how the pristine white canvas was covered with colour and how many pencils or sticks
of charcoal were used in the initial sketches to create it. On the other hand there is art that brings the
concept of destruction to the forefront and the viewer can think of little else. Gustav Metzger coined
the term Auto Destructive Art in the late 1950s to mean a public form of art that is non permanent and
is destroyed by the artist or by itself in the process of its creation (Metzger, 1959). Metzger created art
by painting and spraying stretched pieces of nylon with hydrochloric acid. He created these pieces in
public, the public gaze being an important factor in the outcome, and which will be more thoroughly
covered in chapter three. The spraying of the acid, the disintegration of the nylon or the resulting
scraps of fabric could all be considered art and it is left up to the viewer to decide which aspect of the
creation holds most meaning and therefore value to them. If Metzger had simply presented the scraps
of nylon after creating them in private, his work would not have had produced much of an emotional
reaction in the audience, as witnessing the process of destruction was integral to the piece of art.

Obesity And The Global Burden Disease
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This report is originally written by a group of students from the second
year Accountancy of Queen s Belfast University. Generally, what will be found in this paper other than
bad intake of nutrition is other causes of obesity in Europe which will be statistically and
mathematically tested on. However, this data has been narrowed down to 2011 only. We hope that our
project paper will be helpful in the future. ABSTRACT Director of Institute of Health Metrics and
Evaluation in Seattle and a co founder of the Global Burden Disease study, Dr Christopher Murray
said Obesity is an issue that affects people all over the world from all incomes and ages . Later he said
that There is no country successfully able to reduce the rates of obesity before this, and it is expected
to rise steadily as incomes in low and middle income countries in particular rises, unless urgent steps
are seized . It has been stated by The Richest.com in 2013 that heart disease is leading disease lead to
death and one of the factors is obesity. However, other factors that might affect obesity rates in Europe
has remain unclear. Questions like what causes obesity in Europe for 2011 and how will it affect
obesity will be frequently asked throughout this paper. In this case, obesity will be our dependant
variable while the other nine independent variables has been carefully chosen by our group.
Hypothesises are being drawn based on the variables chose. These hypothesises are tested,

For this reason, in order to gain insight of the precise estimate of the returns, investors and managers
generally use the variance and average return. The values in the above table is depicting that the
average return of Tesco is low as compared to Morrisons and Sainsbury. The main reason behind the
low average return of Tesco as compared to Morrisons and Sainsbury is due to the difference in the
share price of Morrisons and Sainsbury. The share prices of Morrisons and Sainsbury is high as
compared to Tesco i.e. their share prices are above hundred whereas the share price of Tesco is below
%10. This is the main reason behind the low average return of Tesco.
With reference to the average return, the variance figures of Tesco are indicating the disparity and
dispersion as compared to the variance figures of Morrison and Sainsbury. The high variance is
depicting high fluctuation in the share prices. But if we look at the actual share price figures, it depicts
that the share price of Tesco is stable as that of Morrisons and Sainsbury. Hence again it can be said
that the huge difference in the share price of Tesco as compared to Morrison and Sainsbury can be the
main reason behind the high variance return of

Krakauer did in fact believe that Christopher Johnson McCandless was completely sane. The question
of why would a man, who had great potential and many spoils want to venture out and make a life in
the wilderness where he has just his name and a handful of items? Krakauer discussed that he found
evidence that McCandless didn t seek out after the materialistic items which his parents offered him,
that s why his reaction to the car offer was greatly dramatic. Krakauer has written the novel Into the
Wild to use as a cautionary tale to say that the trait of happiness isn t merely a trait at all. Happiness is
indeed a characteristic that must be shared among others in order to be true happiness. I HAVE HAD
A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL! (199.)
Krakauer described McCandless as a man who faced death and stared it in the face but, after all that
had happened to him he was at peace, serene as a monk gone to God.

The Importance Of Environmental Consciousness
In recent days, certainly, the term environmental consciousness is one of the most utilized in various
degrees in our society. It being in a conference of international leaders or a local neighborhood
meeting, the matter of being environmentally and ecologically conscient became a mandatory
measure. In a general sense, being conscious towards environmental issues is described as the ability
to comprehend the environment one habits in, the actions and relationships among it, and the impacts
the caused by a short or long term. Such consciousness is only felt as complete once the perception
that such actions are much greater than a local, it impacts the planet and the environment in question.
In order to diminish the human environmental impact, we need to rethink our actions and its possible
consequences.
Additionally, another aspect of acquiring such consciousness is the search for information. After all,
awareness and knowledge are subjects profoundly interrelated. For instance, in recent days it is
brought to the fact that cars are released pollutant gases, as industries.Yet that the most developed and
consumerist countries are the ones that release most pollutant gases that contribute to the greenhouse
effect. The understanding that the amount of waste produced is also a major issue and it produces
affects the environmental balance.
However, being aware of such knowledge does not mean being environmentally conscious. Such can
have minimal utility when not transformed

Mac Vs Pc Research Paper
Admittedly, Macs were in the market first, and initially were much better than PCs. But it s time to
realize the future of home computing: the PC. Although Macs are not completely useless, PCs
dominate the world of computers with a better user interface, cheaper price, and better internal
workings. These advantages far outweigh any little extra features that a Mac might have.
First of all, PCs have a better user interface. While Mac users have always boasted of having a
computer with a clean, modern look, this changed with Windows Vista, released on January 30, 2007.
Windows Vista has translucent window bars, a search bar on the start menu, and tabs on the bottom of

Another factor to ponder is that PCs have more RAM, or random access memory. RAM is memory
that programs that are running use actively. Less RAM means programs run slower, so having more
RAM is definitely a plus. Windows launches applications faster than Macs, and Windows is far better
at 3 D rendering (required for most modern games) (itok.net).
Compatibility is definitely a major issue. PC s are compatible with Xbox 360, the top selling console
of 2011 (winrumors.com), Linux, and Windows 7 has something called XP mode. XP mode allows the
PC user to run Windows XP on their Windows 7. PCs are also more compatible with TVs/big screens,
because most Macs require an adapter (www.itok.net). Another topic to think about is the Windows
Task Manager. The Windows Task Manager allows you access with a quick shortcut (CTRL SHIFT
ESC or CTRL ALT DELETE) to close unresponsive or frozen programs, or to monitor threads, CPU
usage, network usages, users, and background processes. Mac s equivalent, Activity Monitor, does not
have such a simple access method (the user must search for it in spotlight, then click on it), does not
provide as much information, and instead uses Force Quit. PC s alternate to Force Quit is a simple pop
up that automatically appears when a program stops responding, possibly saving the user much time
and effort. This alternate can be manually triggered by the user.

for the breakthrough. (Bhagwati Sutherland, 2011)
G6 minister headed for Geneva after St. Petersburg meeting where they were prepared to transform
their promises of flexibility into concrete deals. Pascal Lamy, the Director General of the WTO
convinced these nations to discuss these issues. Lamy was pushing for USA to reduce domestic farm
support and European Union for increasing access for domestic agricultural market and at the same
time developing nations like India and Brazil will be convince for reducing their industrial tariffs.
Problem here was each group was expecting other group to give in first. In these triangle of issues
main hurdle in the talks were issues in agricultural sector which has been mentioned above. The third
issue of convincing of India and Brazil for reducing their industrial tariffs didn t even make it to the
discussion because there wasn t any result from the discussion of first two issues.
In the negotiations USA and European Union were expected to cut the subsidy they were providing to
domestic farms at the same time developed nations were expecting India and Brazil, to open their
domestic market for agriculture and agricultural goods. Negotiations had the first jolt when far from

Ambiguity In The Scarlet Letter
In the Puritan society the outlandish mindset of the leaders caused more harm than good with the
witch trials in Salem to the events mentioned in The Scarlet Letter. Sin and evil the new world cloud
the vision of the citizens, yet they are two separate actions and have different definitions. Hawthorne
explains the difference between the two in the novel and also shows off his famous skill of
questioning a society s rules, regulations, and social structure. In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel
Hawthorne uses his writing style of ambiguity, and ornate word choice to relay his opinion of the
puritan society. Characters, quotes, and symbols give us a snapshot of the time and thoughts on events
and ideas during the era. Hawthorne s characters are a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using such extensive imagery can hide symbols within objects and places.
The three main characters in the novel are Hester Prynne, Roger Chillingworth, and Dimmesdale.
Hester is an adulteress and has a baby named pearl and she is convicted and her punishment is to wear
a scarlet letter a upon her chest and to wear it until her death where it will be marked upon her grave
as well. Her husband who she cheated on was Roger Chillingworth, which was his alias in the new
world. He discovers Hester s ignominy and is set on finding her partner in the crime they committed
against him. Dimmesdale is the man who Hester had an affair, although he is the minister and that is a
huge scandal for the preacher who speaks against infidelity. Hawthorne makes the relationship
acceptable by showing that Hester and Dimmesdale actually love each other opposed to Chillingworth
and Hester s fake love.Chillingworth convinced Hester into marrying him which she never wanted to
do in the first place, he only wished to own someone not love them. Chillingworth can be associated
to evil because of his wish for revenge and torture to Dimmesdale which are considered the worst kind
of sins. Chillingworth is also referred to as a leech which is what

Eight Disastrous Events
Throughout this paper, I will examine eight disastrous events that led to the establishment of new
buildings codes. The tragedies that took place during these events paved way for, new and improved
codes that were implemented to help protect health, safety, and the natural resources that sustain us.
The eight different events that I chose to research, I felt had the most significant impact in the
development of some of the most commonly used building codes today. The first event that I will
discuss is 9/11, 9/11 is one of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil. The second event is one of
the largest hotel fires that ever broke out, which happened on November 21, 1980, at the MGM Grand
Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The third event that I

The Kudler Fine Foods Compensation Rates
The Kudler Fine Foods Compensation Rates The labor market of retail industries Introduction The
retail sectors are specializing in the selling of products that the consumers need in specific times and
places. However, it is hardly the retailer s responsibility to produce the goods. The retailers just act
agents, as they get the products to the consumers. Industrial retailing will focus more on the sale of
small quantities of the products to the buyers. Transformational processes are not integrated in the
retailing processes, as the retailers neither produce nor manufacture any goods. Initially, retailing was
just transacted in stores and shop. Presently, technological upgrades and developments have affected
the retailing process positively, leading to the use of electronics to do transactions. In most cases, the
retailers will transact with cash specifically during payment of the products (Retail Council of Canada,
2009). History of the Kudler Fine Foods (Summation) The Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) specializes in the
retailing of grocery and other edibles from 1998, when its official founder and owner, Kathy officially
conceptualized the first store at La Jolla, which is located in California. Just two years after that, the
next store was in Del Mar. The stores gained momentum and opened their third store in Encinitas. All
the Kudler stores are of high quality, with regards to the services provided and also the fashionable
trends adopted by the company. Currently, the stores

Immigration Assimilation
America is largely made up of immigrants, and thus it is referred to by many as an immigrant s nation.
The rise in immigrants of the first generation and those of second or third generation is changing the
demographics of the United States each day. Duncan and Stephen observe that about a quarter of U.S.
residents are either first generation immigrants or the second generation children of immigrants (109).
Most of these immigrants move to the country with the aim of achieving the American dream through
career success. We would like to believe that the nation follows through with its American ideology
that immigrants are welcomed with open arms, and they will have economic opportunities. However,
the process of integration and assimilation of these immigrants has for long been a common debate
question. The immigration waves into the United States have occurred in several waves over the past
years. In the earlier years, most of the immigrants were from Europe and their assimilation was rather
smooth. But, the recent wave of immigrants groups prevalently from Asia and Latin America do not
face similar acceptance and open arms as their predecessors.
Additionally, the aspirations of most immigrants are that they will have upward mobility when they
get into the United States, but unfortunately, in several instances, they may face unexpected downward
mobility. Downward mobility may occur due to many factors. The socioeconomic mobility of
immigrants is largely determined by the

  • 3. Blue Lawsuit Research Paper Lawsuits can come from out of the blue. One day life is good, and the next, someone is taking you to court. This statement sounds like an exaggeration only because no particular lawsuit case is presented here to back it up. However, few people get themselves sued intentionally. It happens because of an accident, a mistake, or a situation that escalates into a lawsuit. To the defendant, its unexpectedness does make it seem as though it came from out of the blue. So why do lawsuits happen? Why do people sue? Here are three common reasons: A Person Sues for a Legitimate Reason If the mail delivery person slips on black ice in your driveway that was created because you allowed water runoff from your basement sump pump to flow across it and freeze, ... A Person Sues for Emotional Reasons This often happens because the defendant mishandled the incident that led to the lawsuit. For example, suppose your dog bolts out of the door when you open it to get the mail, and your dog bites a pedestrian in the street. The pedestrian becomes furious and freely vents his anger toward you. You react in kind and get into a heated argument with the victim. This person not only has a case against you technically, your handling of the incident gave him a powerful emotional motivation to go through with a lawsuit: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reflection On African American History Over the course of this semester, I was introduced to many people, ideas, writings, and discussions that sparked my interest and enlightened me on African American history. However, I feel like this was just the beginning of my journey of learning the history of my people, as there is still so much out there to be brought to the surface. Prior to taking this course, I was always ignorant on the topic of African American history and simply made the connection to slavery. Additionally, I was unaware of other black activist, movements, and struggles that I had the chance to witness for the first time in this class. I came to a realization of how deprived of this information I was, because other historic events have been deemed more important. A quote that stuck with me throughout the course that was made by Arthur Schomburg was, ... African history and negro history, are the missing pages of world history . At the start of this semester we discuss an issue that has poisoned the dynamic of society in the United States since the beginning, white supremacy. For centuries, members of the white community have simply used the color of their skin to attain and remain in power. In my opinion, those that use their white privilege to partake in white supremacy are the only ones who benefit from this poison. White supremacy continues to be fueled in the United States, and plays just as big of a factor in today s world as it did many years ago. There is no retaliation for uproars or ... • 5. The Character of Falstaff in Henry IV Essay The Character of Falstaff in Henry IV None of Shakespeare s plays are read more than the first and second parts of Henry IV. Particularly in Henry IV Part I, Shakespeare writes chronologically historical and interesting to follow events. The reader follows the chain of events with devotion and content eager to find out what happens next. Even though the hero of the play is Prince Henry, or Hal as we know him, the reader may find themselves more focused on Falstaff, one of the other major characters that Shakespeare created for comical relief. He was a witty, self conscious, self centered companion of the Prince. King Henry even criticized his eldest son for keeping company with such a low man. Even though Hal is ... (Johnson 235) Hal s opposite was a peer to him, the younger of the Percy s Hotspur. Shakespeare properly named this character Hotspur for he was indeed a character with a hot temper and passionate ideas and actions. He longed for a one on one match with the Prince, which he did get at the end of the play. Unfortunately for himself, he lost it and was eventually eliminated. Yet I would have to agree with Johnson once again that Falstaff received the center attention of the reader.( Johnson 235 ) Sir John, or as he was commonly known in the play as Falstaff, was a knight to the King Henry. He was a man of large proportions, indulging into the sweet things in life. He was a man of low morale, as Johnson had noted in his essay. He was a coward and the viewer got to see that in the robbery scene that was aforementioned above. He cared for nothing in life but to satisfy his needs. He preyed upon the poor, he was always ready to cheat and lie. Yet we have grown an attachment to him, for he is a character that we learn to like. Michael Goldman highlighted that point in his Shakespeare and the Energies of Drama. When at the end of the Boar s Head Tavern scene, when the viewer learns that the Sheriff is outside looking for the robbers, Prince Hal defends the fat knight. It is up to each individual to know if the information that have been told is either true or a rumor. The song was originally written by Paul McCartney in order to guide Julian Lennon, John s son, who was neglected by his father after he began dating Yoko Ono. • 12. Executive Compensation Package, Stock Options Executive compensation packages have been used both successfully and unsuccessfully to solve the principal agent problem facing corporations these days. In this study, we focus on a specific element of an executive compensation package, stock options. The use of stock options as a form of senior executive compensation has been studied extensively to be a testament to the success of it s ability to realign executive with shareholder interests. However, as the study reveals, prior to the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, there were many problems with the usage of stock options within corporations that had a weak corporate governance structure. Problems included executive s incentives to focus on short run profit, take on risky business strategies, and manipulations (legal and illegal) to fulfill executive self interests. While it is difficult to measure the true effect of stock option s influence on executive performance and behaviors, we see that the problems with stock option usage far outweigh the benefits of stock options prior to the implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. In the ideal corporate governance system, the definition of a good senior management executive is one that takes into consideration shareholders needs above his own. They work diligently to run the corporation both on a day to day basis and to ensure its success in the long run. However, there are often many incentives that disalign the interests between the shareholders (principal) and executives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first step was to find the building then measure perpendicularly out thirty feet using a string and measuring tape. Starting from the ground, at zero feet, one group member held the protracted while the other looked at the angle created by the top of the building. The group members would rotate places to double check the angle measure to ensure accuracy. The same process would occur at two and four feet off the ground all still at thirty feet away; now a group member would have to hold the tape measure tightly with tension. At the four feet measurement, the angle was easier to see therefor the height was a little easier to calculate versus the ground measurement. Although these numbers were in the general area, for all three calculations some error was present due to estimations of the angle as well as holding the protractor. This was difficult because it needed to be in the exact same spot for all calculations since a group member needed to hold it, the proctor did move slightly throwing off the numbers only a few degrees. The difficulties in this project was obtaining the data from the ground because it was difficult to get underneath the protractor to see the angle; someone was on the ground looking up at the building leaving room for interpretation of the angle measure. This process could have been done differently by choosing a spot with a lower vantage point. For example, if a group was to measure this building again and there were stairs, to stand at the bottom of the stairs while still on the ground level that the building is on. This way that the calculations are still measuring from the ground to the top of the building, but it would be a lot easier to see underneath the angle versus lying on the ... • 14. The Importance Of The Arts In Education As our education budget continues to diminish, our art programs have received the brunt of the cutbacks. In such schools, the arts exist in unappreciative, and even hostile environments. We should be fighting to keep art programs in the education system because they have been an essential part of American culture, they illuminate truths perceptually and more immediate than the spoken word, and they offer an indispensable educational dimension to our students. Throughout American history, artistic representations have portrayed a message of religion, racial, gender, political, class, and many other perspectives through the artist s eyes. Today, the arts serve as historical documents to help people better understand the world and our history. An example of such a time is when the artist David Gilmour Blythe helped bring the sheer brutality of the Civil War into the light. Blythe s Lincoln Crushing the Dragon of Rebellion (1862) incorporated images that helped people visually relate to what was happening in the war. The dragon represents the rebellion of the Confederate States, as suggested by the painting s title. The pillars having been destroyed by the dragon alludes to the rebellion destroying the foundation and support of our nation. As Lincoln poses to strike the dragon, you can see he is chained to a stump labeled constitution and democracy. Introduction: Non living things could be protected from pathogens by defence chemicals in the form of disinfectants which are applied thinly on the objects and surfaces. For living things, their defence from pathogens comes in the form of antibiotics and antiseptics, the former given intravenously or through oral administration and the latter applied on the skin whatever the indented purpose may be but does still meet the defence required if applied in the right doses(Lee et al). Pathogens on the surface are eliminated physically by disinfectants. The mode of operation comes in the form of chemicals, diluted or undiluted for cleaning and by heating; we have noticed this process used in the milk preservation through pasteurisation whereby milk is heated at a very high temperature to kill pathogens. The application of disinfectants varies widely in use for the different settings. For healthcare cleaning to control and keep out pathogens, ethanol is the number one choice used to disinfect and sanitise floors, operation surfaces and surfaces touched the most by people like doors and door closing aids. The liquid based disinfectant normally gets rid of bacteria if it is in the right dilutions or measurements. There are iodine and chlorine based disinfectants both targeting pathogens. The latter is generally used in water treatment and food hygiene and the former widely used for making surgical instruments to render them free from pathogens, thus sterilisation. Antimicrobial ... This story fits in with our habitat unit because it is a survival story. People have to survive in their habitats, just like animals do. So, what do you think would happen if you were picked up and dumped into an unknown habitat, like a tropical island, or a desert, or in the middle of a huge old forest? With no adults, just you and your brothers and sisters. Could you survive? (Let the question linger a few seconds). When I say, go I want you to turn and face your partners and discuss exactly what you three would need to do right away to stay alive if you were stranded together in the wild. Remember what we have learned about what organisms need to survive. I have set the timer for five minutes. Go. (When timer goes off, bring students back to a full group on the rug). I heard a lot of great ideas as I walked around the room. Well done! Now, as I read the story to you, I want you to take special notice of what these children do to survive. This was not the end, but in many ways, the beginning of what became a struggle toward the complete abolishment of slavery throughout the Empire. This endeavor lasted well into the mid nineteenth century as those within the planter class were not swayed by the moral arguments commonly utilized by the abolitionist movement. While large efforts did revolve around preventing smuggling within the coastal waters of Africa, Britain faced ensuing contention from many of its citizens who continued the illegal importation of slaves into the British West Indies. Perhaps, it was in their direct association to their fellow countrymen, that the planters within this region faced continual notice from abolitionists. This was only magnified with the actuality that the planter group still maintained the ownership of slaves, despite social pressures headed from abolitionist groups. Regardless, many in Great Britain did not realize the degree to which the planter class had become incorporated into all of society. Within this context, the change a person personally experiences is meaningful. (Russell and Russell, p16). Change is fundamental to our universe. On the other hand there is art that brings the concept of destruction to the forefront and the viewer can think of little else. Gustav Metzger coined the term Auto Destructive Art in the late 1950s to mean a public form of art that is non permanent and is destroyed by the artist or by itself in the process of its creation (Metzger, 1959). Metzger created art by painting and spraying stretched pieces of nylon with hydrochloric acid. He created these pieces in public, the public gaze being an important factor in the outcome, and which will be more thoroughly covered in chapter three. The spraying of the acid, the disintegration of the nylon or the resulting scraps of fabric could all be considered art and it is left up to the viewer to decide which aspect of the creation holds most meaning and therefore value to them. If Metzger had simply presented the scraps of nylon after creating them in private, his work would not have had produced much of an emotional reaction in the audience, as witnessing the process of destruction was integral to the piece of art. Hawthorne explains the difference between the two in the novel and also shows off his famous skill of questioning a society s rules, regulations, and social structure. In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses his writing style of ambiguity, and ornate word choice to relay his opinion of the puritan society. Characters, quotes, and symbols give us a snapshot of the time and thoughts on events and ideas during the era. Hawthorne s characters are a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. Eight Disastrous Events Throughout this paper, I will examine eight disastrous events that led to the establishment of new buildings codes. The tragedies that took place during these events paved way for, new and improved codes that were implemented to help protect health, safety, and the natural resources that sustain us. The eight different events that I chose to research, I felt had the most significant impact in the development of some of the most commonly used building codes today. The first event that I will discuss is 9/11, 9/11 is one of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil. However, it is hardly the retailer s responsibility to produce the goods. The retailers just act agents, as they get the products to the consumers. Industrial retailing will focus more on the sale of small quantities of the products to the buyers. Transformational processes are not integrated in the retailing processes, as the retailers neither produce nor manufacture any goods. Initially, retailing was just transacted in stores and shop. • 47. Immigration Assimilation America is largely made up of immigrants, and thus it is referred to by many as an immigrant s nation. The rise in immigrants of the first generation and those of second or third generation is changing the demographics of the United States each day. Duncan and Stephen observe that about a quarter of U.S. residents are either first generation immigrants or the second generation children of immigrants (109). Most of these immigrants move to the country with the aim of achieving the American dream through career success. We would like to believe that the nation follows through with its American ideology that immigrants are welcomed with open arms, and they will have economic opportunities. However, the process of integration and assimilation of these immigrants has for long been a common debate question. The immigration waves into the United States have occurred in several waves over the past years. In the earlier years, most of the immigrants were from Europe and their assimilation was rather smooth. But, the recent wave of immigrants groups prevalently from Asia and Latin America do not face similar acceptance and open arms as their predecessors. Additionally, the aspirations of most immigrants are that they will have upward mobility when they get into the United States, but unfortunately, in several instances, they may face unexpected downward mobility. Downward mobility may occur due to many factors. The socioeconomic mobility of immigrants is largely determined by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
