Admission Essay
I write to express my interest in the tenure track appointment in guitar at the assistant or associate
professor level beginning fall 2018 at the Arizona State University School of Music. While I have
taught at a number of institutions, my position at Georgia State University (GSU) has offered the
greatest opportunities for professional growth. Consequently, my discussion of professional activities
will focus primarily on the work I have done in connection with GSU starting in 2012. In this time I
have revitalized a failing guitar program, reinstated its MM performance degree, and created a guitar
chair position within the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) while holding two to three
part time positions and maintaining an active ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have taught Brazilian, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, and Pakistani students, among other nationalities,
and have experience working with special needs students. Because the GSU SOM offers degrees in
Music Performance, Music Education, Music Composition, Music Technology, and Music
Management, all of these majors may be in the studio at one time, each with different lesson and
degree requirements. Provided students are able to apply themselves and accept my high expectations,
I am excited to have them and their variety of perspectives and experiences in the studio. My most
impactful endeavor at GSU is the reinstatement of the Master of Music in Guitar Performance degree
which was deactivated in 2000. In the spring of 2015, with the support of the GSU SOM interim
director, I submitted a proposal for reinstatement. The proposal had the honor of being fast tracked by
upper level administration and passed all college and university level committees by December 2015.
Following reinstatement at the university level, I worked closely with my director/dean and graduate
coordinator in successfully petitioning NASM for accreditation. The MM in Guitar Performance
degree accepted students fall 2016 and I was granted a graduate assistant to aid with teaching and
administrative duties. There

The Transportation Industry
INTRODUCTION
Fraud is a pervasive and omnipresent threat in the modern business environment. While the controls to
help mitigate the risk have become increasingly sophisticated, so too have the methods in which
employees, managers and even third parties defraud victim entities. While some industries seem more
at risk than others it is important to recognize the vulnerability that is common to all of them. One
industry that seems to be able to avoid the worst of fraudulent acts is the Transportation Industry.
Through use of time tested control methods and avant garde procedures to help mitigate business risk,
the industry is able to consistently place ahead of others in rates of fraud occurrences.

An example is an airlines heavy reliance on real time systems to book flights, manage flights, and
make sure planes aren t flying into each other in mid air (McMahon, 2014).
The airline industry has recently been focusing inwardly on revenue growth, yield management, and
balance sheet strength. The permanent threat of terrorism creates an element of uncertainty when it
comes to an airline company s operations. There are significant challenges to implement effective
security and risk management systems. Large investments in required infrastructures are correlated to
these challenges (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). There is also a strong demand for public transport
recently as a result of environmental awareness and congestion. Railroads have difficulty meeting this
demand because of a limited infrastructure capacity. This public transport competes with roads for
investment funds and many planning processes for railroad projects take a long time to deliver
(PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). The shipping subsector contributes an extreme amount to global
transportation and logistics. It has been historically cyclical with volatility in vessel values,
shareholder returns, and freight rates. The international economic and political environment also has a
large effect on shipping. The business environment is challenging with a few specifics risks. Risks

Essay On The Differences Between Bismarck And Wilhelm
Overall, while the foreign policies of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm were not very similar, they did
both maintain the Dual and Triple Alliances, and Germany was at the center of European diplomacy
during both era s, however it was in different ways. Therefore, while both policies did not share many
similarities, they did have their key differences. For instance, during the rule of Otto Von Bismarck,
Germany had a strong and well developed foreign policy. This is because through the use of foreign
policy, Otto Von Bismarck aimed to weaken France, thus ensuring that no other country would attack
Germany. Additionally, Bismarck also prevented threats to Germany through use of defensive
alliances and cooperative agreements with various countries, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Kaiser Wilhelm had their similarities and differences, both decisions were extremely significant to
World War I in a variety of different ways. For instance, the foreign policies of Otto Von Bismarck
were significant to World War I in the sense that one of Bismarck s primary aims was to weaken and
isolate France. Additionally, Bismarck used diplomacy in order to protect the newly unified German
Empire, as well as to settle disputes and prevent a large European War. Furthermore, Bismarck aimed
to protect the unification of Germany through use of foreign policies and also focused on advancing
their economic interests. Thus, Bismarck had limited interest in building a world empire, unlike
Wilhelm II. In general, through Bismarck s foreign policy tactics and agreements, he successfully
manipulated several countries, and his alliances via his agreements ultimately created a great deal of
tension, and caused Europe to have World War I. Meanwhile, Kaiser Wilhelm II s foreign policy
tactics were significant to World War I as his decisions also ultimately caused World War I to occur.
For instance, Wilhelm II s aims through use of foreign policies was to use Weltpolitik policies that
would make Germany have a place in the sun , and also known as a respected power during the course
of World War I. In order to accomplish these goals, Wilhelm II believed that Germany needed to
expand their territory in order to gain colonies (so that Germany would also have a voice in world
politics), and that Germany needed to have a powerful navy. However, Wilhelm s eagerness to build a
powerful navy ultimately lead to tension with Britain. Additionally, Wilhelm II s aims through foreign
policy that ultimately lead to World War I is that he believed in Germany breaking their alliance with
Russia, thus refusing to renew the Reinsurance Treaty in

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Environment
Climate change has become a major issue in today s society. Coming from the rise of Greenhouse Gas
emissions and changing temperature caused human developments, world leaders and organisations are
working on ways to combat the problem. This includes taking steps towards renewable energy and a
cleaner future. Although, human activity is not the sole cause to the rising earth s temperatures.
Besides are use of greenhouse gases and fossil fuels, natural Influences including the current El Niño
period and the natural carbon, nitrogen and water cycles impact our world. By predicting our outcome

When a positive dipole is in effect, it is usually warm waters in the west and cool waters north of
Australia, with drier conditions and weaker winds (BOM, 2014). A negative dipole is almost opposite,
with warm waters in the north and cool waters in the north west of Australia, which brings normal
rainfall (Linstead, 2012).
Cycles including the nitrogen, carbon and water cycle also have an effect on our climate and can be
affected by both natural and human activity. The processes are all connected and work together to
produced and recycle gases in their biosphere. The carbon cycle is defined by how natural and man
made organisms absorb and release CO2 and carbon gases (British Broadcasting Corporation [BBC],
2015). This cycle usually begins with the exertion of the gas via decaying organisms, animal waste
and factory emissions, which are then released into the air. These are then absorbed through
photosynthesis (Linstead, 2012). The nitrogen cycle can be split into several parts which all cycle
through the lithosphere and atmosphere. The water cycle consists of the evaporation of water, to
condensation in the clouds to the precipitation of water.
These three cycles can be linked by how human activity affects them. Due to the excessive amounts of
CO2 produced by the use of fossils fuels, vegetation that uses photosynthesis is unable to absorb the
right amount of the gases, leaving them to decay and creating more

The Stereotypes Of Reality Television
What once started as every day, regular people appearing on television shows have now morphed into
celebrities and want to be celebrities competing for attention and doing almost anything to receive it
on primetime television. The genre of television, which was once jumpstarted by the appeal of
relatable people, who could be the viewers next door neighbors, being featured has since disappeared
and been replaced by a monstrosity that does not accurately portray reality and often stereotypes
people (Huff). One specific group that has been targeted by what reality television has morphed into is
women. The new version of reality television is specifically adequate at encouraging gender culture,
the set of behaviors or practices associated with masculinity and femininity (Huff). Reality television
enforces gender roles and negatively impacts feminism in today s society. Reality television sexualizes
women, portrays them as dependent on and less superior to men, and exemplifies them as dramatic,
catty, and often only as homemakers. The portrayal and stereotyping of women on reality television is
demoralizing and can be described as the contemporary backlash against feminism ( Reality TV ).
These false and demeaning stereotypes are prevailed in all types of reality television shows, making
their impact extensive, considering Americans spend one third of their spare time watching television
and of that time sixty seven percent is spent watching reality television ( Reality

Christopher Reeve s My Hero
Christopher Reeve once said, A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and
endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. A person doesn t have to wear a cape to be a hero. They
can be people just like you and I. We have people in our everyday lives who are our heroes. Many
times, our heroes are our loved ones; the ones we look up to. My hero is someone very special to me.
He has been there since day one and I wouldn t want to go a day without him by my side. As cheesy as
it might sound, my hero is my boyfriend, Max. Yes, he s my hero. It s not just because he s my

Critical Reflection
Anyone can turn his weaknesses into strengths , I was reading the book David and Goliath by
Malcolm Gladwell, and the book was about a battle between David, the underdog, and Goliath, the
giant, and it explains how David defeated a giant by using his unconventional strategies. It also talks
about how some underdogs can overcome their weaknesses; in addition, it also explains how power
comes in different forms. Malcolm Gladwell proved his arguments by providing some real life
experiences of different underdogs. According to Gladwell, an underdog is a person who is
underestimated by everyone to perform any task successfully. Malcolm Gladwell also explains many
other terms to prove his argument. I have experiences in my student life where I felt like an underdog.
I felt disempowered because of my weaknesses. I still remember the first day of my English 838 class
at College of San Mateo, and I felt so unconfident in the classroom because I was not a native speaker.
There were also moments in my college classes where I felt empowered because of my strengths; for
example, I felt empowered in my Math 120 and pre calculus class because I already knew the
concepts of these classes. I had a lot of moments in my life where I felt empowered and disempowered
as a student, but learning from those moments helped me to succeed in my college classes.
I felt disempowered in my English 838 classroom because English was not my native language. I have
been in the United States for a year now. Earlier I was at the University of North Texas for a semester,
then I transferred to College of San Mateo because of some financial issues in spring 2017. I
registered for my English 838 class for the spring semester, but I was really worried about this class. I
was so nervous for taking English class because It was my first time taking an English class in the
United States. I came from a country where English is not a native language. Even though I was from
an English medium high school in India, I was so nervous because I wasn t sure that if I am ready to

A Careful Preponderance of Goodman s Some Moral Minima
Relativism is the philosophical viewpoint that there are no actions that are innately immoral or moral,
and that the morality of actions must be measured against the individual circumstances, from a
multitude of perspectives that include the actor as well as the myriad consequences (and victims,
potentially) of such an action. After reading Lenn Goodman s Some moral minima , it becomes fairly
apparent that Goodman is far from a relativist. After a lengthy, meandering introduction in which the
author spans a variety of topics and nothing too much in particular, he posits the notion that there are
certain acts which are in and of themselves morally wrong. Specifically, the author proposes the
notion that there are four categories for such acts including genocide, terrorism, slavery, and female
genital cutting and rape. A careful preponderance of Goodman s article and the challenges the author
presents to relativism indicates that such moral requirements are actually valid.
At the heart of the issue that Goodman presents in this article is the unifying theme that runs
concurrent through all four stratifications of immoral acts: they all, essentially, present instances in
which someone is enforcing his or her will on another, to the contrary of the volition of that other
party. Such a practice appears to be morally incorrect, as a number of deontologists (most notably
Immanuel Kant) would vociferously argue. A consideration of the four types of actions delineated by

White Picket Fence Society
I believe in not planting trees. No, not in the sense which would deprive us from oxygen, rather to stop
planting trees to mask the image of industry. We mow them down and then plant them again. Not the
ones that naturally grow there, but those that come from a far away land in order to form the illusion
of the White Picket Fence Society , which is obviously a place that values diversity.
Our world is encompassed by trees. I live in a part of suburbia where it is required to have a tree in the
middle of your lawn: this is to enforce the uniformity all suburbs have. The end mission of this being
to have every individual conform to the idea of the perfect person and for them to become that idea.
Even though we keep on trying, man made houses won t ever blend in with nature. It s ironic though.

The Battle of Rsebud Creek Essay
Introduction
The Indians that had fought General Custer had actually fought a battle against an even larger
American Army Force only 10 days earlier. In mid June of 1876 General George Crook and
approximately 1325 American soldiers, packers, miners and Indian allies moved north1. The intent
was to get contingents of the Cheyenne, Sioux and Arapaho to move to reservations.
History
Gold had been discovered in the Black Hills of the Dakotas, and the American military intended to
take it by force after a failed treaty negotiation. Crook had moved north from Fort Fetterman camp
near present day Douglas Wyoming area, along rosebud creek, north into Montana territory. Crook s
column was 1 of 3 sent out in the summer of 1876 to try and get ... Show more content on

4 During the move to the north it was discovered that the notorious character Calamity Jane had
accidentally been employed as one of the wagon teamsters, being a female, she was not allowed in the
column. However this brought a much needed division of attention from the monotone march. On
June 9th 1876, an unknown amount of Sioux and Cheyenne Indians attacked General Crooks camp.
The skirmish was remarkably short, Crook having sent a battalion of Cavalry to quickly dispatch the
Indians that had taken high ground on them, and were firing down into the camp. Along the way the
column received the Shoshone and Crow allies which only numbered approximately 170, but was
regarded as having the strength of an entire regiment.5
Execution/Action
On June 17, 1876 Crook and his column rose at 3am and set out at 6 am. John F. Finerty gives an
account of the surroundings: At about 8 o clock, we halted in a valley, very similar in the formation to
the one in which we had pitched our camp the preceding night. Rosebud stream, indicated by the thick
growth of wild roses, or sweet briar, from which its name is derived, flowed sluggishly through it,
dividing it from south to north into two almost equal parts. The hills seem to rise on every side, and
we were within easy musket shot of those most remote. 6 General Crook then paused his command for
an early lunch in the Rosebud

A Short Note On The De La Mano Y Tercer N Desbridarlas
FLICTENAS: ¿DEJARLAS INTACTAS O DESBRIDARLAS?

Questions And Answers From A Troubled Peace
Four questions and answers from A Troubled Peace
1. Why President Reagan had a good relationship with President Chun, and what incidents make this
relationship stronger?
→ President Reagan had basic ideas about the danger of appeasement and the evils of communism.
He regarded South Korea as a stalwart ally and a valiant symbol of resistance to communism.
Therefore, Reagan ignored President Chun s record of antidemocratic activities (p.113). In Reagan s
view, Chun resembled former President Park in terms of his strong political leadership, anti
Communist commitment, and emphasis on economic advancement. Also, Reagan administration was
satisfied with the consolidation of a stable situation under President Chun (p.116). In addition, two
accidents strengthen the Reagan administration s support to South Korea. First, on October 9, 1983,
North Korean attack in the Martyrs Mausoleum of Rangoon, Burma, killed 17 South Koreans and four
Burmese. Even though President Chun saved his life, South Korea lost many high ranking officials
(p.119). Second, on September 1, 1983, the Soviet Union attacked Korean Air Lines Flight 007
because the flight had intruded into Soviet territory to gather military intelligence for the U.S. After
the incident, Reagan assailed Soviet s massacre and savagery in his public addresses and launch a
vigorous anti Soviet campaign (p.117). After these two events, President Reagan visited South Korea
three days in November 1983 and expressed the U.S.

Scandal In Bohemia Vs Departures Essay
A study of Sir Conan Doyle s short story, A Scandal in Bohemia and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures
effectively present discovery as an inevitable aspect of human condition that transcends the
impediments of time. Both texts highlight that the discovery of weaknesses leads to new perspectives
as it instils understanding, which are significant aspects of the human condition. While Doyle employs
literary techniques to express various forms of flaws and respect, Takita manipulates various cinematic
techniques to convey underlying aspects of human nature. While these composers offer differing
perspectives, both composers demonstrate the timelessness of discovery and its vitality for the human
condition. It is apparent Doyle believes that the discovery of weakness is a vital aspect of the human
condition. This can be seen through the characterization of Sherlock Holmes as while he is described

Generation In My Generation
Generations Throughout time, the people of the Gen Z, Gen X, and generations before, show
significant qualities and differ from generation to generation. A change from my generation to the past
is how we talk and have new lingo in our conversations. Also, equality for women in the work place

The variance in our conversations, the equality in work place, and the laziness of my generation are a
change from the past. In conversation between Gen Z and Gen X, there are some phrases past
generations might not comprehend. Ever since phones have been around, Gen Z have changed the
language. We like to shorten all our words for example; OMG instead of oh my god, is one of the most
commonly used sayings. Another phrase frequently used is LOL, which means Laugh out loud. There
are many more examples, all of which have been created by the phone and texting. Also, Gen Z tend
to communicate more by phone or computer then talking in person, whereas the Gen X would rather
speak in person and have that face to face conversation. Gen Z uses technology to avoid talking to
someone. Witnessed every day on college campus, a student will see a teacher or fellow student

Darwin s Legacy Essay
Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury on February 12, 1809. His father and grandfather, being
admired and respected doctors, Charles grew up in a well educated and freethinking family. At the age
of eight, his mother died, leaving Charles and his five siblings with their stern and often overbearing
father. A short time later, he was sent to boarding school in Shrewsbury to study Greek and Latin.
Outside of class Charles collected beetles and conducted his own chemistry experiments, earning him
the nickname Gas around school. Growing bored and indifferent towards his language studies, Charles
motivation began to slip. His father, seeing his son s mediocre academic scores, pulled him out of
school and hired him as an assistant in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jumping at the chance, Charles set sail on the Beagle with a phrenologist named FitzRoy, to complete
a survey of South America s coast. During his travels, Charles read a work called The Principles of
Geology by British geologist Charles Lyell. In the book, Lyell challenged the religious ideas of earth s
formation and proposed uniformitarianism instead. Lyell believed that land was formed through the
physical process of sedimentation, erupting volcanoes, and erosion (Berra 14). This theory struck a
chord with Charles and a short while later he would begin to develop his own theories that went
against the religious grain. In September of 1832, just south of Buenos Aires, Charles noticed bones
embedded within the stones of a rocky cliff and went to work on extracting them. He had discovered a
fossilized jawbone and tooth of a Megatherium, or Giant Sloth (Berra 18). The discovery of this fossil
started his interest in extinction and often fueled arguments between himself and FitzRoy, a religious
man, who said that extinction was quite simply the door of the Ark being made too small (Berra 19).
Two years later, Charles would discover marine deposits that contained pieces of Petrified Forest. He
concluded that the area must have once been under the sea and throughout time, uplifted some 7000
feet. His curiosity about the earth s formation, evolution, and extinction was once again heightened.
Throughout his studies and journeys around the world,

Cultural relativism is the theory that beliefs, activities, and most values are based on the person s
culture. In other words, right and wrong is different in each culture. I agree with James Rachel on his
view of cultural relativism because he has very good reasons for objecting the argument that cultural
relativists make. This paper will argue that James Rachel s opinion on cultural relativism is correct
and the assumptions that cultural relativist believe are incorrect.
Cultural Relativists believe in the cultural differences argument. This argument says:
1.Different cultures have different moral codes.
2.Therefore, there is no objective truth in morality. Right and wrong are only matters of opinion and
opinions vary from culture to culture (Rachel 21).
Rachel s considers the cultural differences argument for cultural relativism to be unsound. I agree with
her because it just is not logical for something to not have anything that is objectively true just
because people disagree on it. An example that stands out to me regards murder. If Society A agreed
on murder and society B disagreed on murder than the conclusion is not that there is no objective truth
on the matter. Murder is obviously wrong because if in a particular society

The Pursuit Of Heroism In A Mystery Of Heroism By Stephen...
Heroism is a word that is difficult to define. Anyone can be considered a hero; it could be someone
with special abilities, flying around in a cape and saving the world. A hero could also be an ordinary
person, like a firefighter, risking their lives to save people from a burning building. But just because
someone does something daring, doesn t mean they are a hero. A hero must be selfless, courageous,
and clever. In the short story, A Mystery of Heroism by Stephen Crane, the theme what it means to be
an american hero is explored. Fred Collins is a member of a company who is trapped in the middle of
an intense battle. Thirsty, Collins escapes from safety, and makes a break for a well across the
battlefield, returning with the water, only for it to be spilled. Fred Collins, a soldier from the story A
Mystery of Heroism by Stephen Crane, is not an American Hero because he behaved foolishly and
irrationally, he was not admired for his actions, and he only did it out of spite or to prove a point.

When Collins tells the rest of his company that he is thirsty, they repeatedly make fun of him. The
guys taunt him, jokingly telling him that if he is so thirsty, he should go across the battlefield and go
get some (Crane par. 17). The men from his company never expect him to actually make the
treacherous and deadly excursion. When the men realize what he is going to do the are surprised and
even start to get a little worried. Crane writes that they were amazed, staggered by the whole affair.
Their astonishment found vent in strange repetitions (Crane par. 43). They began to worry for his
safety; they did not think that Collins was brave or courageous. The men thought it was a ridiculous
idea and Collins was out of his mind. Although gutsy, Collins actions were not admirable, but

A Report On State Bank Of India
The following are the major findings of the report:
1. It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.1,5.2,5.3 and5.4 that:
Almost 95% of the people in Guwahati have their accounts in State Bank of India. This is because
everyone has the stereotype that State Bank of India is the best amongst all the banks.
The younger generation people are comfortable in banking with the privatized banks while the elder
generation seems to be comfortable with the nationalized banks.
Now a days, it is found that customers are willing to have their accounts in multiple banks rather than
having it in one bank.
When asked about the people about which sector they would prefer banking with, the response was a
mixed one. As most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and 5.5.6 that:
The various facilities provided by the banks like availability of information brochures, ATM machines

customer satisfaction regarding the banks they are banking with. Also the customers like a pleasant

The manner, appearance, efficiency, professionalism and knowledge of the staffs of the bank also play
an important role in driving customers to their respective banks. The reason is that if the staffs are not
able to handle the queries or problems of the staffs then the customers are not tempted to do banking
with a particular bank. This may be either with a nationalized or a privatized bank.

Swot Analysis Of Dick s Sporting Goods Essay
Equity Analysis Dick s Sporting Goods has had reputable equitability consistently throughout the
years. Investors have been able to regularly earn a respectable return on their investments. However,
some of the valuation metrics of Dick s Sporting Goods are slightly troublesome. The price to
earnings ratio, which is one of the most commonly used gauge of valuing equity securities, has
decreased over the last 3 years and recently decreased 24% compared to the previous year, while their
earnings per share has increased every year with the exception of the current year where it decreased
minimally. This indicates that the market is lessening their expectations of the company. Another
commonly used measure is the price to cash flow which eliminates the manipulation that is possible
with net income that is used in the price to earnings ratio. This ratio also has decreased recently, thus
also indicating a lessening in expectations in the market. The company has had adequate profitability
over the previous years that have helped investors earn a pleasant return on their investments. The
basic earnings per share and the diluted earnings per share have both increased over the last four
years, but both decreased ever so slightly in the current year. This decrease in the earnings per share is
most likely due to the considerable decrease in net income for the current year. But Dick s Sporting
Goods has been managing their earnings per share through share buy backs which is

The Death Of Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe dies, pills blamed , which as you can see here is the headline for the Los Angeles
Times, August 6, 1962, 2 days after Marilyn Monroe s death and just one of many conspiracy theories
surrounding her death. With the an autopsy report providing no clear indication of what happened in
the early hours of August 5, it has left the door open for public debate and an outbreak of conspiracies.
Although her death occurred over half a century ago, it is still relevant and there are operations still
undergoing investigating what happened on that fateful night, where one of the most inspirational
women of our time came to her untimely death. As stated by Alison Lynch In death, Marilyn Monroe
is every bit as fascinating as she was in life. And the mystery surrounding her final hours has led to
endless speculation was it suicide, a cover up or murder?

To say that Marilyn Monroe s life was hard, is an understatement. As shown in this primary source of
Marilyn Monroe s birth record she was born as Norma Jean Mortenson, and she grew up in a loveless
family, missing a father and with a mother that was unable to properly look after her. After her mother
was hospitalised, Marilyn lived in many foster homes, which resulted in a lack of a proper education
and the love and care that is supposed to be provided by a family. She was married at the age of 16 to
James Dougherty to avoid living in more foster homes and orphanages. Marilyn Monroe through her

My Best Vacation
The best vacation ever! my cousin Vicky screamed from the bed next to me. I was just trying to fall
sleep, but she kept talking most of the night with her twin sister Emma. We all have the same age, and
this is the first vacation we have without parents, aunts, and uncles around, telling us what to do. We
arrived to Los Angeles, California at 11:00 pm, checked into the hotel and tried to rest. The next day
we planned to drive around the city and wait for our friend Annette, who was coming from Texas.
Annette was around twenty years old, but she had been traveling around the world with her father
since she was 13. I admire her, she is funny, has a good temper, and is really knowledgeable about
traveling. We are going to fly together to Mexico City first, and from there to Acapulco. We planned to
go to La Quebrada , it s a place in Acapulco where people do cliff diving. We had done some research
about it. The divers have to climb the cliff and do a freestyle jump into the water. We couldn t wait to
be there, Annette was going to be really happy too, she used to compete in platform diving when she
was in high school. The hotel room phone rang pretty early the next day. Our parents checking on us,
making sure we were ok. Emma talked to her mother and assured her that everything was ok and that
we will be careful driving around. It was funny, I looked at her facial expressions meanwhile she is
talking, and Emma rolls the eyes and nods a lot. Emma is the opposite of his sister Vicky. Vicky talks
a lot but she s a scary cat, on the other hand, Emma is quieter but really adventurous. Liz, my uncle
wants you on the phone! Emma announced. I picked up the phone and got myself ready for the
lecture. My father was concerned that we were going alone to Mexico. I promised that we were going
to stay in Acapulco a couple of days and go back to California. Don t do stupid things my father
continued, and, take care of each other. Annette arrived at midday, we were happy to see each other
again. We decided to go the movies. We say the premier of Batman Returns , the line at the movie
theater was extremely long, but we were so excited that the next day we will be flying to Mexico that

Electoral Reform Of Canada Through A Mixed Electoral...
The need for Electoral Reform in Canada Through a Mixed Electoral System
Altering the electoral system would undoubtedly benefit Canada in numerous ways through the use of
a mixed electoral system using proportional representation and alternative voting. Over the course of
Canada s history, debate over electoral reform has appeared occasionally, with varying levels of
intensity (Courtney 2005:154). Regardless, the amount of times that the topic has been discussed,
demonstrates the need for its consideration. The word change often promotes a negative connotation,
suggesting decreases in quality of government. However, it is important for one to focus on not
changing the system, but rather improving it. This can be done through different voting methods such
as proportional representation or alternative voting. Of course, there are disadvantages that could arise
from electoral reform, especially in the case of either suggested systems. However, the vast
advantages ultimately outweigh all potential consequences, justifying this action. Conclusively, it is
advantageous to undergo electoral reform through a mixed election system of proportional
representation and alternative voting, despite arguments opposed to both matters.
To begin, electoral reform is necessary for one major reason. This reason being that the current system
Canada operates under is simply not effective. Presently, Canada uses the single member plurality
system, but this form of voting displays several

Benefits Of Liberal Arts Education
The way children are educated early on has a direct influence on their development. There are two
primary forms of education that children are exposed to, the first being liberal arts. In a liberal arts
education the primary subjects taught are, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and formal
sciences. The goal of a liberal arts education is to prepare the student to deal with complexity,
diversity, and change to assist in their adaption to the world later on. The second form of education is
STEM, standing for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM education focuses
more on the analytical side of the school system with not as much thought given to the social and
artistic side as liberal arts does. STEM chooses to integrate science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics in a practical way with emphasis on real world application. The more beneficial of the
two is liberal arts because it exposes students to a more diverse education, it is affordable, and it helps
students gain an awareness of cultural diversity and varied perspectives. One of the advantages found
through a liberal arts education is that it exposes students to more diverse way of learning. Liberal arts
covers general areas of study which includes a variety of subjects such as, humanities, social sciences,
creative arts, and sciences. This is done without the intent of preparing students for a specific field of
work, but to instead equip them with an invaluable set of skills to

Fashion Imagery Research Paper
We have expressions which refer to the idea that we may experience time as subjectively happening at
different speeds. For example, A watched pot never boils. But, we generally take the view that,
objectively, an hour is an hour is an hour and all things move forward at the same pace.
Yet, in fiction, time passing at different rates is a relatively common concept. Perhaps this intrigues us
because of real world experiences which fit that concept in some sense.
When you look at signs and symbols, a common phenomenon is that imagery initially comes from real
world items in a relatively literal manner but, over time, the symbols are kept even though technology

Reflection On Colors
I have been really focusing on colors for past 4 years, almost one fourth of my entire life. I believe
that each of different colors can change someone s life. It sounds unreal, almost. Well, there is
someone who got affected by colors. It s me. In fact, I was not always interested in colors until Eighth
Grade. I used to be a person who did not focus on colors in everyday life, just like most people do, but
now I care colors so much because of situations I have experienced.
Thankfully, everything in the world has a color, and it used for many different purposes. Human eyes
can see many different colors because they are very sensitive. For me, the color is something that
impacts and changes my state and thoughts. I love looking at colors because it supports the words I am
saying and gives me many different moods. I remember the times that I realized how much colors
impact on me.
When I was in eighth grade in South Korea, I got a chance to visit DMZ, or 38th parallel. DMZ stands
for the Demilitarized Zone, where it divides Korea into a half. While I was in DMZ, I felt like I was in
1970s. South Koreans lived in DMZ, but it was a lonesome place. When I came back to school, my
teacher wanted me to explain the difference between North Korea, DMZ, and South Korea, and I
could not find ways to explain. Suddenly, I thought of colors, only because they were simple. Then, I
immediately started to color the south side of Korea as Blue, North as Red , and DMZ as Light Purple.
I said that Red indicates the communism and blood. Blue as a peace, and Purple as a confusion.
Everyone can guess Red as something about violence, and Blue is something about peace. However,
people don t know what Purple describes because it can be anything. Purple is certainly the mixture of
Red and Blue, but people don t go deeper. I said light Purple because DMZ was a very clean place.
The word confusion came to my mind, because I was confused if I saw DMZ as more of South side or
North side, and I used it to explain the meaning of colors to my teacher. It was a total success! That s
how I started to use them to support my opinion. (I use color to to give a detail often)

the films unique cinematic techniques and the equivocal ending whilst leaving others to criticise the
overall ambiguity. Today, the film is still debated among audiences so we have invited Alejandro

Native American Education Essay
Children were taken away from their homes and told everything they knew was wrong. They were
sent to boarding schools to change their culture. These boarding schools were run by the United States
government. The government s goal was to civilize Native Americans. They sent children to these
schools against their will. Native American children were educated like Americans and they had to
change their native ways to be more like whites (Cayton 266). Teachers abused their students and beat
their native ways out of them. They were not allowed to see their families so they would try to escape,
but their attempts were unsuccessful. The United States government s Boarding Schools of the mid

Crazy Horse was brutally murdered and the Sioux surrendered ( Battle ). In 1890 the government
learned that the Native Americans were doing the Ghost Dance (Cayton 265). The Ghost Dance was a
ritual in which people join hands and twirled in a circle (Cayton 265). When the government saw the
Ghost Dance, they thought the Native Americans were crazy and trying to rebel, so they tried to arrest
Sitting Bull (Cayton 265). In this conflict that came to be known as the Battle of Wounded Knee,
soldiers killed Sitting Bull, 120 men, and 230 women and children (Cayton 265). These battles pushed
Native Americans onto reservations and took away their basic human rights. Early Native American
schooling was taught in tribes. Tribes would teach their children healing arts and specialized crafts
like making shell money (Nash 173). Tribes used legends as a form of education a long time ago
(Fixico 41). These stories would teach important lessons like how to live in balance with nature. Many
tribes would make day schools to educate children on tribal sovereignty (Ellis). In the 1840s, the
Cherokees formed a system of public schools (Perdue 64). Education in tribes was an important right

Summary Of The Great Storytellingki-Tikki Tavi
The Great Rikki tikki tavi Bravery has many characters and one mammal has them all. Rikki tikki tavi
fought single handed, through the bathrooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment. Darzee,
the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the middle of the
floor but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki tikki did the real fighting. He
was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail but quite like a weasel in his head and his
habits. His eyes and the end of his restless nose were pink; he could scratch himself anywhere he
pleased with any leg, front or back, that he chose to use; he could fluff up his tail till it looked like a
bottle. One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow where he lived with his father and
mother and carried him, kicking and clucking, down a roadside ditch. He found a little wisp of grass
floating there and clung to it till he lost his senses. When he revived, he was lying in the hot sun in the
middle of a garden path, very draggled indeed, and a small boy was saying: Here s a dead mongoose.
Let s have a funeral. No, said his mother; let s take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn t really dead.
(Kipling 143) The book by Rudyard Kipling and the movie Rikki tikki tavi is about a mongoose
named Rikki tikki tavi. This mammal is one of the great fighters of the dreaded cobras, and in this
story, the Rulers of the garden. The book

Nuclear power plant currently producing electricity in the U.S include the Pressurized Water Reactor
and the Boiling Water Reactor. To illustrate the importance of nuclear energy to the United States,
20% of our nation s electricity production comes from the 104 commercially operating reactors (Funk
and Socacool 2012). However, security issues surrounding nuclear power lead to the U.S nuclear
regulatory agencies imposing strict regulations on the production of nuclear energy.
As a result, development and construction time of a nuclear power plant is a complex process. Before
an applicant can start building a nuclear power plant, it must receive approval from the U.S Nuclear
Regulatory Commission. Previous regulations required that a nuclear power plant was licensed under
a two step licensing process (NRC 2004). This former process required both a construction permit and
an operating license (NRC 2004). In 1989, the NRC established an alternative licensing process which
formed a joint license between the construction permit and an operating license (NRC 2004).
Following approval from the U.S NRC

Spirit Airlines Business Analysis
Spirit Airlines prides itself on being a, ultra low cost carrier, or ULCC meaning they provide the
customer with unbundled base fares along with other optional services that the customer may choose
from (Spirit). This organizational capability allows the company to compete with very little operating
costs; the average cost per available seat mile was 9.65 cents in 2014(Spirit). This means that Spirit
airlines must continue to operate effectively in order to keep costs as low as possible. One way they
achieve this is by only operating with the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, which greatly reduces the
cost of training multiple crews as well as making them interchangeable across the entire fleet (Spirit).
This family of planes are also fitted with high density seating, which helps maintain low cost by
seating more than major competitors, for example the A320s accommodate 178 passengers compared
to 150 on both United and JetBlue (Spirit).
Spirit Airlines has 65 Airbus planes in their fleet the average age for the fleet is 5.1 years, accordingly
maintenance costs have been lower than expected in the past and most likely Spirit Airlines will
continue to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s one of the main focuses of Spirit Airlines as an organization and everything they do is geared
towards achieving that goal. The resources used in order to keep Spirit as a low cost airline are
limiting costs for amenities and increasing quality. Safety for both customers and employees is another
great concern that Spirit takes very seriously. Management has a large impact by being sure safety
standards and qualifications are being kept current. Finally, the organizing process used in continuing
with the low prices and customer satisfaction is keeping their fleet healthy by undergoing scheduled
maintenance as well as in house maintenance as

Aluminum Foil
Kritika fulfilled this student learning objective when Kritika designed and conducted an experiment in
a classroom to make the students understand the insulation properties of several materials and the heat
transfer concept. To perform the experiment, Kritika divided the class into four groups and circulated
a sheet to form a hypothesis based on the students opinion about the best insulator among the
Styrofoam, the cotton balls, the aluminum foil, or none. The students hypothesized that aluminum foil
will be the best insulator. Afterward, Kritika gave a plastic cup to each team and three groups received
different insulating material to place at the bottom of the cup while the last group performed it without
any insulating material keeping the plastic cup as a control.

  • 2. Admission Essay I write to express my interest in the tenure track appointment in guitar at the assistant or associate professor level beginning fall 2018 at the Arizona State University School of Music. While I have taught at a number of institutions, my position at Georgia State University (GSU) has offered the greatest opportunities for professional growth. Consequently, my discussion of professional activities will focus primarily on the work I have done in connection with GSU starting in 2012. In this time I have revitalized a failing guitar program, reinstated its MM performance degree, and created a guitar chair position within the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) while holding two to three part time positions and maintaining an active ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have taught Brazilian, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, and Pakistani students, among other nationalities, and have experience working with special needs students. Because the GSU SOM offers degrees in Music Performance, Music Education, Music Composition, Music Technology, and Music Management, all of these majors may be in the studio at one time, each with different lesson and degree requirements. Provided students are able to apply themselves and accept my high expectations, I am excited to have them and their variety of perspectives and experiences in the studio. My most impactful endeavor at GSU is the reinstatement of the Master of Music in Guitar Performance degree which was deactivated in 2000. In the spring of 2015, with the support of the GSU SOM interim director, I submitted a proposal for reinstatement. The proposal had the honor of being fast tracked by upper level administration and passed all college and university level committees by December 2015. Following reinstatement at the university level, I worked closely with my director/dean and graduate coordinator in successfully petitioning NASM for accreditation. The MM in Guitar Performance degree accepted students fall 2016 and I was granted a graduate assistant to aid with teaching and administrative duties. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the controls to help mitigate the risk have become increasingly sophisticated, so too have the methods in which employees, managers and even third parties defraud victim entities. While some industries seem more at risk than others it is important to recognize the vulnerability that is common to all of them. One industry that seems to be able to avoid the worst of fraudulent acts is the Transportation Industry. Through use of time tested control methods and avant garde procedures to help mitigate business risk, the industry is able to consistently place ahead of others in rates of fraud occurrences. An example is an airlines heavy reliance on real time systems to book flights, manage flights, and make sure planes aren t flying into each other in mid air (McMahon, 2014). The airline industry has recently been focusing inwardly on revenue growth, yield management, and balance sheet strength. The permanent threat of terrorism creates an element of uncertainty when it comes to an airline company s operations. There are significant challenges to implement effective security and risk management systems. Large investments in required infrastructures are correlated to these challenges (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). There is also a strong demand for public transport recently as a result of environmental awareness and congestion. Railroads have difficulty meeting this demand because of a limited infrastructure capacity. This public transport competes with roads for investment funds and many planning processes for railroad projects take a long time to deliver (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). The shipping subsector contributes an extreme amount to global transportation and logistics. Essay On The Differences Between Bismarck And Wilhelm Overall, while the foreign policies of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm were not very similar, they did both maintain the Dual and Triple Alliances, and Germany was at the center of European diplomacy during both era s, however it was in different ways. Therefore, while both policies did not share many similarities, they did have their key differences. For instance, during the rule of Otto Von Bismarck, Germany had a strong and well developed foreign policy. Kaiser Wilhelm had their similarities and differences, both decisions were extremely significant to World War I in a variety of different ways. For instance, the foreign policies of Otto Von Bismarck were significant to World War I in the sense that one of Bismarck s primary aims was to weaken and isolate France. Additionally, Bismarck used diplomacy in order to protect the newly unified German Empire, as well as to settle disputes and prevent a large European War. Furthermore, Bismarck aimed to protect the unification of Germany through use of foreign policies and also focused on advancing their economic interests. Thus, Bismarck had limited interest in building a world empire, unlike Wilhelm II. In general, through Bismarck s foreign policy tactics and agreements, he successfully manipulated several countries, and his alliances via his agreements ultimately created a great deal of tension, and caused Europe to have World War I. Meanwhile, Kaiser Wilhelm II s foreign policy tactics were significant to World War I as his decisions also ultimately caused World War I to occur. For instance, Wilhelm II s aims through use of foreign policies was to use Weltpolitik policies that would make Germany have a place in the sun , and also known as a respected power during the course of World War I. In order to accomplish these goals, Wilhelm II believed that Germany needed to expand their territory in order to gain colonies (so that Germany would also have a voice in world politics), and that Germany needed to have a powerful navy. However, Wilhelm s eagerness to build a powerful navy ultimately lead to tension with Britain. Cycles including the nitrogen, carbon and water cycle also have an effect on our climate and can be affected by both natural and human activity. The processes are all connected and work together to produced and recycle gases in their biosphere. The carbon cycle is defined by how natural and man made organisms absorb and release CO2 and carbon gases (British Broadcasting Corporation [BBC], 2015). This cycle usually begins with the exertion of the gas via decaying organisms, animal waste and factory emissions, which are then released into the air. These are then absorbed through photosynthesis (Linstead, 2012). The nitrogen cycle can be split into several parts which all cycle through the lithosphere and atmosphere. The water cycle consists of the evaporation of water, to condensation in the clouds to the precipitation of water. These three cycles can be linked by how human activity affects them. Due to the excessive amounts of CO2 produced by the use of fossils fuels, vegetation that uses photosynthesis is unable to absorb the right amount of the gases, leaving them to decay and creating more ... The Stereotypes Of Reality Television What once started as every day, regular people appearing on television shows have now morphed into celebrities and want to be celebrities competing for attention and doing almost anything to receive it on primetime television. The genre of television, which was once jumpstarted by the appeal of relatable people, who could be the viewers next door neighbors, being featured has since disappeared and been replaced by a monstrosity that does not accurately portray reality and often stereotypes people (Huff). One specific group that has been targeted by what reality television has morphed into is women. The new version of reality television is specifically adequate at encouraging gender culture, the set of behaviors or practices associated with masculinity and femininity (Huff). Reality television enforces gender roles and negatively impacts feminism in today s society. Reality television sexualizes women, portrays them as dependent on and less superior to men, and exemplifies them as dramatic, catty, and often only as homemakers. The portrayal and stereotyping of women on reality television is demoralizing and can be described as the contemporary backlash against feminism ( Reality TV ). These false and demeaning stereotypes are prevailed in all types of reality television shows, making their impact extensive, considering Americans spend one third of their spare time watching television and of that time sixty seven percent is spent watching reality television ( Reality ... Critical Reflection Anyone can turn his weaknesses into strengths , I was reading the book David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell, and the book was about a battle between David, the underdog, and Goliath, the giant, and it explains how David defeated a giant by using his unconventional strategies. It also talks about how some underdogs can overcome their weaknesses; in addition, it also explains how power comes in different forms. Malcolm Gladwell proved his arguments by providing some real life experiences of different underdogs. According to Gladwell, an underdog is a person who is underestimated by everyone to perform any task successfully. Malcolm Gladwell also explains many other terms to prove his argument. I have experiences in my student life where I felt like an underdog. I felt disempowered because of my weaknesses. I still remember the first day of my English 838 class at College of San Mateo, and I felt so unconfident in the classroom because I was not a native speaker. There were also moments in my college classes where I felt empowered because of my strengths; for example, I felt empowered in my Math 120 and pre calculus class because I already knew the concepts of these classes. I had a lot of moments in my life where I felt empowered and disempowered as a student, but learning from those moments helped me to succeed in my college classes. I felt disempowered in my English 838 classroom because English was not my native language. I have been in the United States for a year now. Earlier I was at the University of North Texas for a semester, then I transferred to College of San Mateo because of some financial issues in spring 2017. A Careful Preponderance of Goodman s Some Moral Minima Relativism is the philosophical viewpoint that there are no actions that are innately immoral or moral, and that the morality of actions must be measured against the individual circumstances, from a multitude of perspectives that include the actor as well as the myriad consequences (and victims, potentially) of such an action. After reading Lenn Goodman s Some moral minima , it becomes fairly apparent that Goodman is far from a relativist. After a lengthy, meandering introduction in which the author spans a variety of topics and nothing too much in particular, he posits the notion that there are certain acts which are in and of themselves morally wrong. Specifically, the author proposes the notion that there are four categories for such acts including genocide, terrorism, slavery, and female genital cutting and rape. A careful preponderance of Goodman s article and the challenges the author presents to relativism indicates that such moral requirements are actually valid. At the heart of the issue that Goodman presents in this article is the unifying theme that runs concurrent through all four stratifications of immoral acts: they all, essentially, present instances in which someone is enforcing his or her will on another, to the contrary of the volition of that other party. Such a practice appears to be morally incorrect, as a number of deontologists (most notably Immanuel Kant) would vociferously argue. A consideration of the four types of actions delineated by Goodman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We mow them down and then plant them again. Not the ones that naturally grow there, but those that come from a far away land in order to form the illusion of the White Picket Fence Society , which is obviously a place that values diversity. Our world is encompassed by trees. I live in a part of suburbia where it is required to have a tree in the middle of your lawn: this is to enforce the uniformity all suburbs have. The end mission of this being to have every individual conform to the idea of the perfect person and for them to become that idea. Even though we keep on trying, man made houses won t ever blend in with nature. It s ironic though. For us to all have the same houses. Covered in an absurd amount of costly vegetation. In mid June of 1876 General George Crook and approximately 1325 American soldiers, packers, miners and Indian allies moved north1. The intent was to get contingents of the Cheyenne, Sioux and Arapaho to move to reservations. History Gold had been discovered in the Black Hills of the Dakotas, and the American military intended to take it by force after a failed treaty negotiation. Crook had moved north from Fort Fetterman camp near present day Douglas Wyoming area, along rosebud creek, north into Montana territory. However this brought a much needed division of attention from the monotone march. On June 9th 1876, an unknown amount of Sioux and Cheyenne Indians attacked General Crooks camp. The skirmish was remarkably short, Crook having sent a battalion of Cavalry to quickly dispatch the Indians that had taken high ground on them, and were firing down into the camp. Along the way the column received the Shoshone and Crow allies which only numbered approximately 170, but was regarded as having the strength of an entire regiment.5 Execution/Action On June 17, 1876 Crook and his column rose at 3am and set out at 6 am. John F. Finerty gives an account of the surroundings: At about 8 o clock, we halted in a valley, very similar in the formation to the one in which we had pitched our camp the preceding night. Rosebud stream, indicated by the thick growth of wild roses, or sweet briar, from which its name is derived, flowed sluggishly through it, dividing it from south to north into two almost equal parts. The hills seem to rise on every side, and we were within easy musket shot of those most remote. 6 General Crook then paused his command for an early lunch in the Rosebud ... • 16. Questions And Answers From A Troubled Peace Four questions and answers from A Troubled Peace 1. Why President Reagan had a good relationship with President Chun, and what incidents make this relationship stronger? → President Reagan had basic ideas about the danger of appeasement and the evils of communism. He regarded South Korea as a stalwart ally and a valiant symbol of resistance to communism. Therefore, Reagan ignored President Chun s record of antidemocratic activities (p.113). In Reagan s view, Chun resembled former President Park in terms of his strong political leadership, anti Communist commitment, and emphasis on economic advancement. Also, Reagan administration was satisfied with the consolidation of a stable situation under President Chun (p.116). In addition, two accidents strengthen the Reagan administration s support to South Korea. First, on October 9, 1983, North Korean attack in the Martyrs Mausoleum of Rangoon, Burma, killed 17 South Koreans and four Burmese. Even though President Chun saved his life, South Korea lost many high ranking officials (p.119). Second, on September 1, 1983, the Soviet Union attacked Korean Air Lines Flight 007 because the flight had intruded into Soviet territory to gather military intelligence for the U.S. After the incident, Reagan assailed Soviet s massacre and savagery in his public addresses and launch a vigorous anti Soviet campaign (p.117). Scandal In Bohemia Vs Departures Essay A study of Sir Conan Doyle s short story, A Scandal in Bohemia and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures effectively present discovery as an inevitable aspect of human condition that transcends the impediments of time. Both texts highlight that the discovery of weaknesses leads to new perspectives as it instils understanding, which are significant aspects of the human condition. While Doyle employs literary techniques to express various forms of flaws and respect, Takita manipulates various cinematic techniques to convey underlying aspects of human nature. While these composers offer differing perspectives, both composers demonstrate the timelessness of discovery and its vitality for the human condition. It is apparent Doyle believes that the discovery of weakness is a vital aspect of the human condition. My generation doesn t have much of a work ethic and is very lazy when it comes to jobs. The variance in our conversations, the equality in work place, and the laziness of my generation are a change from the past. In conversation between Gen Z and Gen X, there are some phrases past generations might not comprehend. Ever since phones have been around, Gen Z have changed the language. We like to shorten all our words for example; OMG instead of oh my god, is one of the most commonly used sayings. Another phrase frequently used is LOL, which means Laugh out loud. There are many more examples, all of which have been created by the phone and texting. Also, Gen Z tend to communicate more by phone or computer then talking in person, whereas the Gen X would rather speak in person and have that face to face conversation. A short time later, he was sent to boarding school in Shrewsbury to study Greek and Latin. Outside of class Charles collected beetles and conducted his own chemistry experiments, earning him the nickname Gas around school. Jumping at the chance, Charles set sail on the Beagle with a phrenologist named FitzRoy, to complete a survey of South America s coast. During his travels, Charles read a work called The Principles of Geology by British geologist Charles Lyell. In the book, Lyell challenged the religious ideas of earth s formation and proposed uniformitarianism instead. Lyell believed that land was formed through the physical process of sedimentation, erupting volcanoes, and erosion (Berra 14). This theory struck a chord with Charles and a short while later he would begin to develop his own theories that went against the religious grain. In September of 1832, just south of Buenos Aires, Charles noticed bones embedded within the stones of a rocky cliff and went to work on extracting them. He had discovered a fossilized jawbone and tooth of a Megatherium, or Giant Sloth (Berra 18). The discovery of this fossil started his interest in extinction and often fueled arguments between himself and FitzRoy, a religious man, who said that extinction was quite simply the door of the Ark being made too small (Berra 19). Two years later, Charles would discover marine deposits that contained pieces of Petrified Forest. He concluded that the area must have once been under the sea and throughout time, uplifted some 7000 feet. His curiosity about the earth s formation, evolution, and extinction was once again heightened. Throughout his studies and journeys around the world, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cultural Relativism Is Not Ideal Cultural Relativism is not Ideal In The Challenge of Cultural Relativism, James Rachel s main argument is that cultural relativism is not creditable, but the whole theory of what cultural relativists believe, isn t completely incorrect. Cultural relativism is the theory that beliefs, activities, and most values are based on the person s culture. In other words, right and wrong is different in each culture. I agree with James Rachel on his view of cultural relativism because he has very good reasons for objecting the argument that cultural relativists make. This paper will argue that James Rachel s opinion on cultural relativism is correct and the assumptions that cultural relativist believe are incorrect. Cultural Relativists believe in the cultural differences argument. This argument says: 1.Different cultures have different moral codes. 2.Therefore, there is no objective truth in morality. Right and wrong are only matters of opinion and opinions vary from culture to culture (Rachel 21). Rachel s considers the cultural differences argument for cultural relativism to be unsound. I agree with her because it just is not logical for something to not have anything that is objectively true just because people disagree on it. An example that stands out to me regards murder. If Society A agreed on murder and society B disagreed on murder than the conclusion is not that there is no objective truth on the matter. • 32. Electoral Reform Of Canada Through A Mixed Electoral... The need for Electoral Reform in Canada Through a Mixed Electoral System Altering the electoral system would undoubtedly benefit Canada in numerous ways through the use of a mixed electoral system using proportional representation and alternative voting. Over the course of Canada s history, debate over electoral reform has appeared occasionally, with varying levels of intensity (Courtney 2005:154). Regardless, the amount of times that the topic has been discussed, demonstrates the need for its consideration. The word change often promotes a negative connotation, suggesting decreases in quality of government. However, it is important for one to focus on not changing the system, but rather improving it. This can be done through different voting methods such as proportional representation or alternative voting. Of course, there are disadvantages that could arise from electoral reform, especially in the case of either suggested systems. However, the vast advantages ultimately outweigh all potential consequences, justifying this action. Conclusively, it is advantageous to undergo electoral reform through a mixed election system of proportional representation and alternative voting, despite arguments opposed to both matters. To begin, electoral reform is necessary for one major reason. This reason being that the current system Canada operates under is simply not effective. Presently, Canada uses the single member plurality system, but this form of voting displays several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Lil Wayne Impact On Society For any kid that was born in the 1990 s, it s rare that you will find a person that doesn t mention Lil Wayne in the greatest of all time conversation. While many older fans seem to have a negative reaction to that claim, it s hard to deny the impact that Wayne has had in hip hop. Wayne in his career has created the term bling , made mixtapes a popular trend, and one of the few rappers to sell a million copies in a week without the benefit of streaming. Though Wayne is one of the most influential rappers in history, his career as of late has struggled to rival those of his peers in the greatest category. Let me explain. A lot of the biggest rappers in the game eventually fall off, in hip hop it s inevitable. With the solo projects that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don t know what Wayne has in store for music fans, and I honestly don t care. A few years ago I absolutely hated Young Thug, and now Wayne seems to be the one following in his footsteps. I m sure some of you may read this article in anger, but be honest for a second. While I m not discrediting the legacy of Wayne, he s been saying his next album was coming soon since 2014. • 34. Benefits Of Liberal Arts Education The way children are educated early on has a direct influence on their development. There are two primary forms of education that children are exposed to, the first being liberal arts. In a liberal arts education the primary subjects taught are, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and formal sciences. The goal of a liberal arts education is to prepare the student to deal with complexity, diversity, and change to assist in their adaption to the world later on. The second form of education is STEM, standing for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM education focuses more on the analytical side of the school system with not as much thought given to the social and artistic side as liberal arts does. STEM chooses to integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a practical way with emphasis on real world application. The more beneficial of the two is liberal arts because it exposes students to a more diverse education, it is affordable, and it helps students gain an awareness of cultural diversity and varied perspectives. One of the advantages found through a liberal arts education is that it exposes students to more diverse way of learning. Liberal arts covers general areas of study which includes a variety of subjects such as, humanities, social sciences, creative arts, and sciences. This is done without the intent of preparing students for a specific field of work, but to instead equip them with an invaluable set of skills to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Fashion Imagery Research Paper We have expressions which refer to the idea that we may experience time as subjectively happening at different speeds. For example, A watched pot never boils. But, we generally take the view that, objectively, an hour is an hour is an hour and all things move forward at the same pace. Yet, in fiction, time passing at different rates is a relatively common concept. Perhaps this intrigues us because of real world experiences which fit that concept in some sense. When you look at signs and symbols, a common phenomenon is that imagery initially comes from real world items in a relatively literal manner but, over time, the symbols are kept even though technology moves on and the thing it refers to is no longer in use. • 36. Reflection On Colors I have been really focusing on colors for past 4 years, almost one fourth of my entire life. I believe that each of different colors can change someone s life. It sounds unreal, almost. Well, there is someone who got affected by colors. It s me. In fact, I was not always interested in colors until Eighth Grade. I used to be a person who did not focus on colors in everyday life, just like most people do, but now I care colors so much because of situations I have experienced. Thankfully, everything in the world has a color, and it used for many different purposes. Human eyes can see many different colors because they are very sensitive. For me, the color is something that impacts and changes my state and thoughts. I love looking at colors because it supports the words I am saying and gives me many different moods. I remember the times that I realized how much colors impact on me. When I was in eighth grade in South Korea, I got a chance to visit DMZ, or 38th parallel. DMZ stands for the Demilitarized Zone, where it divides Korea into a half. While I was in DMZ, I felt like I was in 1970s. South Koreans lived in DMZ, but it was a lonesome place. When I came back to school, my teacher wanted me to explain the difference between North Korea, DMZ, and South Korea, and I could not find ways to explain. Suddenly, I thought of colors, only because they were simple. Then, I immediately started to color the south side of Korea as Blue, North as Red , and DMZ as Light Purple. I said that Red indicates the communism and blood. Blue as a peace, and Purple as a confusion. Everyone can guess Red as something about violence, and Blue is something about peace. However, people don t know what Purple describes because it can be anything. Purple is certainly the mixture of Red and Blue, but people don t go deeper. I said light Purple because DMZ was a very clean place. The word confusion came to my mind, because I was confused if I saw DMZ as more of South side or North side, and I used it to explain the meaning of colors to my teacher. It was a total success! That s how I started to use them to support my opinion. (I use color to to give a detail often) I went to Canada this summer, and I traveled Banff and Vancouver. In Banff, ... • 38. Love Story Essay I decided long ago that my parent s love story is worth writing about. My mom grew up in the same red bricked house most of her life in Richland, Washington. She grew up with eight siblings (she being number six) three sisters and five brothers. Grandpa Nelson was an engineer, along with the rest of the people who lived on that street most of them being members of the church. Grandma Nelson was a stay at home mom and raised my amazing aunts and uncles. My dad was raised in a military family and went to twelve different public schools. Grandpa Robinson was in the Navy and for a short while, in the Air Force. Grandma Robinson has 11 children (the youngest, Rebekah was a still born) and my dad was the second child. He has three brothers and eight sisters. My dad claims Richland, Washington as his home even though he lived all over the country. My parents technically met when they were in the same ward as kids. My grandma Nelson was my dad s Den Leader in scouts. However, my parent s friendship became real when they were teenagers and my dad was finally settled back in Richland. A story that was told by my grandpa all the time before he died was one day while my dad and his family were sitting in the pews of the chapel, my mom walked in and my dad leaned over to either is mom or dad and said I m going to marry her one day. At the time, my dad was 17, while my mom was 14, so the fantasy was, in fact, only a fantasy. Long story short, my parents dated a little bit in high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Riggan is classified as a high profile actor but to regain his importance and to ease his narcissism, he enters the theatre. Mike s preliminary scene establishes his antagonistic persona and representation of theatre with the initial shot panning over the stage to focus on Mike, whose silhouette is positioned on the edge of the stage in a dramatic pose. Consequently, Riggan is removed from the frame, illustrating Mike s supremacy. Mike s silhouette is defined from the main source of light a theatrical ghost lamp, instantaneously captivating the audience. • 40. Native American Education Essay Children were taken away from their homes and told everything they knew was wrong. They were sent to boarding schools to change their culture. These boarding schools were run by the United States government. The government s goal was to civilize Native Americans. They sent children to these schools against their will. Native American children were educated like Americans and they had to change their native ways to be more like whites (Cayton 266). Teachers abused their students and beat their native ways out of them. They were not allowed to see their families so they would try to escape, but their attempts were unsuccessful. Crazy Horse was brutally murdered and the Sioux surrendered ( Battle ). In 1890 the government learned that the Native Americans were doing the Ghost Dance (Cayton 265). The Ghost Dance was a ritual in which people join hands and twirled in a circle (Cayton 265). When the government saw the Ghost Dance, they thought the Native Americans were crazy and trying to rebel, so they tried to arrest Sitting Bull (Cayton 265). In this conflict that came to be known as the Battle of Wounded Knee, soldiers killed Sitting Bull, 120 men, and 230 women and children (Cayton 265). These battles pushed Native Americans onto reservations and took away their basic human rights. Early Native American schooling was taught in tribes. Tribes would teach their children healing arts and specialized crafts like making shell money (Nash 173). Tribes used legends as a form of education a long time ago (Fixico 41). These stories would teach important lessons like how to live in balance with nature. Many tribes would make day schools to educate children on tribal sovereignty (Ellis). In the 1840s, the Cherokees formed a system of public schools (Perdue 64). Education in tribes was an important right of the Native Americans. • 41. Summary Of The Great Storytellingki-Tikki Tavi The Great Rikki tikki tavi Bravery has many characters and one mammal has them all. Rikki tikki tavi fought single handed, through the bathrooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment. Darzee, the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the middle of the floor but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki tikki did the real fighting. He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits. His eyes and the end of his restless nose were pink; he could scratch himself anywhere he pleased with any leg, front or back, that he chose to use; he could fluff up his tail till it looked like a bottle. One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow where he lived with his father and mother and carried him, kicking and clucking, down a roadside ditch. He found a little wisp of grass floating there and clung to it till he lost his senses. When he revived, he was lying in the hot sun in the middle of a garden path, very draggled indeed, and a small boy was saying: Here s a dead mongoose. Let s have a funeral. No, said his mother; let s take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn t really dead. (Kipling 143) The book by Rudyard Kipling and the movie Rikki tikki tavi is about a mongoose named Rikki tikki tavi. • 42. Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Waste The purpose of a nuclear power plant is to produce electricity for supporting increases in consumption. Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) defines nuclear energy as the energy released by a nuclear reaction, especially by fission or fusion. In general terms, nuclear energy uses fuel made from mined and processed uranium to make steam and generate electricity (ENEC 2011). Nuclear power plant currently producing electricity in the U.S include the Pressurized Water Reactor and the Boiling Water Reactor. To illustrate the importance of nuclear energy to the United States, 20% of our nation s electricity production comes from the 104 commercially operating reactors (Funk and Socacool 2012). However, security issues surrounding nuclear power lead to the U.S nuclear regulatory agencies imposing strict regulations on the production of nuclear energy. As a result, development and construction time of a nuclear power plant is a complex process. Before an applicant can start building a nuclear power plant, it must receive approval from the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Previous regulations required that a nuclear power plant was licensed under a two step licensing process (NRC 2004). This former process required both a construction permit and an operating license (NRC 2004). In 1989, the NRC established an alternative licensing process which formed a joint license between the construction permit and an operating license (NRC 2004). Following approval from the U.S NRC ... This organizational capability allows the company to compete with very little operating costs; the average cost per available seat mile was 9.65 cents in 2014(Spirit). This means that Spirit airlines must continue to operate effectively in order to keep costs as low as possible. One way they achieve this is by only operating with the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, which greatly reduces the cost of training multiple crews as well as making them interchangeable across the entire fleet (Spirit). This family of planes are also fitted with high density seating, which helps maintain low cost by seating more than major competitors, for example the A320s accommodate 178 passengers compared to 150 on both United and JetBlue (Spirit).
