Stripe rust is a serious disease affecting wheat production in Central Asia and the Caucasus. Through international collaboration, researchers have identified several high-yielding winter wheat varieties with resistance to stripe rust over the past five years. Facilities for rust screening have been established in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to support breeding efforts. Seed of resistant varieties is being multiplied and distributed in the region to replace susceptible varieties and reduce yield losses from stripe rust epidemics.
