Just Noticeable Gender Experiment
Method
Participants
A total of 49 participants (35 female, 13 male) were perception students and/ or friends or family of
those students who have volunteered to participate in a pilot study measuring the proportion of
muscularity of male figures presented in two different body orientation either upright or inverted.
The age and standard deviation of the participants were not recorded in this experiment.
Design
The independent variable of this experiment was the two body orientation of the male figures:
upright and inverted, which were measured in arbitrary units. Additionally, a dependent t test was
conducted to measure the Just Noticeable Difference (JND) and Point of Subjective Equivalence
(PSE), which in our case was the dependent variable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this particular experiment, level 10 indicates a scrawny male whilst 100 represent an extremely
muscular figure. Additionally, there were 20 trials per level of muscularity for both upright and
inverted body orientation, which were randomly presented throughout the experiment.
Results
A dependent t test was conducted to measure the JND, and PSE for the different body orientations.
Three outliers were eliminated from the experiment to maintain reliability since these participants
were recognised for randomly selecting z or m without accurately identifying whether the body was
indeed muscular or scrawny. Therefore, the analysis was performed on the remaining participants.
The JND (M =21.44, SD = 13.05), in the inverted condition was greater compared to the upright
condition (M= 19.18, SD = 11.46) refer to table 1. However, the PSE in the inverted condition
was lower (M= 48.22, SD = 13.60), than the upright condition (M= 49.62, SD= 12.47) refer to
table 2. A one tailed repeated measures t test was employed to analyse the results and indicated a
statistical difference (p = . 05) between the PSE in the inverted and upright condition, t (45) =
0.841, p = .203. On the other hand, JND t (45) = 1.839, p =. 036 indicate no statistical difference

Argumentative Essay On Cults
Cults have been around since the beginning of civilization and today there are thousands of cults
around the world. Cults vary in ideas and beliefs, whether it be political, scientific, or focused on
self development. The majority of cults claim to have the answer to life s biggest, toughest
questions and, use this to their advantage. They target people with loneliness or, people who look
to fill a void in their life. Cults across time have consistently shown that the power of manipulation
can empower a group and lead them to commit even the craziest of acts like mass suicide and
murder. While we associate cults with violence, cults are formed on a religious type basis that

The Legal Tender Of The People s Republic Of China
Renminbi (RMB) is the legal tender of the People s Republic of China. The trade of RMB is
booming internationally. It is now the ninth most traded currency in the world account for 2.2% of
total foreign exchange turnover. In 2004, Hong Kong residents are allowed to deposit Renminbi
into their bank account up to 20000 yuan per day (2100 pounds). In 2007, the first Renminbi
denominated bond is issued in Hong Kong, called the dim sum bond. In the end of 2008, China
allowed the trade using RMB between ASEAN countries (Association of Southeast Asian Nations:
Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Thailand) and Hong Kong, Macau, Guang Dong.
Later Shanghai and other cities were included. In 2009, China signed direct swap deal with
numerous countries including UK, Canada, and Iceland. In 2015, Renminbi is included in IMF s
SDR basket.
CNY and CNH: The same currency traded in or outside of mainland China
A little background of CNY and CNH. Both of them are the same currency called Renminbi as
stated above. They are both the legal tender of China and their unit is Yuan (like pounds). The
differences are that CNY is only traded in mainland China, and one can only trade within a limited
amount of CNY against other currencies. CNH, on the other hand, is traded outside of mainland
China such as Hong Kong and London. There is no limited of how much CNH you can traded in a
specific period and can fluctuate freely without any government control. As a result, the exchange

Charter School Reform Case Study
While the sentiment behind venture philanthropy is morally and ethically sound, the growing
degree of power that philanthropists posses is largely unregulated and un scrutinized, which calls
for a reformation of the venture philanthropy sector.
Before venturing into the analyses of the case study Sponsor of Policy: A Network Analysis of
Wealthy Elites, Their Affiliated Philanthropies, and Charter SchoolReform in Washington State, it
is important to understand the case itself. The charter school reform movement in Washington
state began in 2012 with the passage of Initiative 1240. Initiative 1240 was the necessary
legislation need to legalize charter schools in Washington state. As of 2012, only nine US states
did not allow charter schools. Resultantly, Washington state needed a popular vote to pass. There

actuality, they are invoking an Astroturf movement that is fabricated to appeal to the public by
appearing unsolicited, autonomous, and community rooted without actually being so (Au Ferrer,

Platos The Symposium Essay
In Greek culture around the time of Plato, the perfect ideal person was considered.
Plato s idea that there was a perfect world of ideas affected this pieces subject and the subject s
action. Many works of his time period were sculptures that were meant to be viewed from all
angles, attempting to be a closer match to that of the ideal. This idea that the ideal world was real

Most of the works are depicting an ideal Greek person performing a noble act not just a common

What is love? In his speech, Aristophanes engages in the discussion of love, encompassing human
nature as whole rather than individualistic aspects. According to a myth, we were originally
created as a single being, united with our beloved. As pairs, we were quite powerful and chaotic,
such that the god had to split us into two. Thereafter, life became pursuit, a pursuit for the other
half, a quot;pursuit for wholeness, to be complete. quot; And thesis what Aristophanes defines as
love. He believes that love is innate: quot; love is born into every human being quot;. He is
expressing that the phenomenon of love is as natural and inherent to us as breathing itself. Like
other amenities of life, Love fulfills us. quot;To be in love is to see the other individual as a
special complement to one s existence. quot; Socrates, on the other hand, defines love as the desire
to possess good and beautiful entities, which he presently lacks. By a dialectical method,
questioning Agathon, he manifests that love cannot presently possess the object of affection. Even
when he desires what he has, what he really desire is quot;the preservation of what he now has in
time to come, so that he will have it then. quot; It follows then, that he wants, rather than has the
good. Thus,
Love itself is not beautiful. This however, does not imply that Love is ugly or evil. Rather,
Love is in between; just as there is something between wisdom and

Statement of Facts
Marcus Ashmore and Terrell Lee Green were maintenance workers for J.P. Thayer Co., Inc. under
supervisor Gene Fye. After a particular incident of harassment on January 16, 2001, Plaintiffs
reported Fye to Tricia Johnson, the Assistant Property Manager. At this time, Johnson did nothing
about the complaint. The harassment continued, and on January 26, Plaintiffs complained to the
Property Manager, Mary Frances de Rivera. In response, de Rivera verbally reprimanded Fye.
This, however, did not stop Fye s harassment. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant,
Plaintiffs hired an attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were
going to file charges of discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by
Defendant. This came three days after getting the letter and about a month after the initial
harassment complaints.
Procedural History
The Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.
The verdict of the jury found the Defendant liable and was in favor of the Plaintiffs. Defendant
then filed a motion for a new trial for judgment as a matter of law.
Issue Presented

“Only Through Mistakes Can There Be Discovery or Progress.”
There is a stating that the mistake is the mother of success. Could people only make discovery or
progress through mistakes? I am afraid that I do not quite agree with such an assertion. While in
my perspective, mistakes are not necessary to make discover or progress, although in most
circumstances it is more efficient to discover new things or to progress through mistakes.
Admittedly, mistakes could help us make progress because it is the mistake that tell us what is
wrong and hence make improvement or progress. For example, many students might have the same
feeling that we learn new things through the mistakes we made in our homework, and this is one
of the reason that teacher ask us to do home exercises. By carefully analyzing the ... Show more

Environmental Waste And Its Effects On Carbon Emissions
To get around the issue of these powerful companies being upset from the negative financial impact
from the move to zero carbon, a shift must be made in governmental policy. Perhaps the solution
may not be punishing companies for producing too much pollution, but rewarding companies for
producing much less. In this way, the market for carbon emissions will eventually disappear and
naturally profit seeking companies will aim to pursue activities, hunt for new strategies, and invest
in infrastructure and equipment that result in lower carbon emissions. Beyond the simple reward
proposition, however, greener policies often result in higher long term profitability for companies
nonetheless. Environmental waste is often the best proxy for identifying and eliminating economic
waste, meaning that many companies are currently increasing their profitability while
simultaneously following a strategy in pursuance of zero carbon emissions. In fact, notoriously
profit focused companies like Tesco and WalMart have announced their intentions to pursue
environmental action not out of moral motivation, but in clear quests for greater profitability. The
reason for their actions is the simple recognition that environmental and economic interests are
often closely aligned. Nearly 50 separate studies from the Economist Intelligence Unit, Goldman
Sachs, AT Kearney, Deloitte, MIT Sloan, Harvard and others show that companies that commit to
environmentally responsible goals, particularly

Work Related Issues In Health Care Essay
problems that concern work or that occurs in a work place (Goodtherapy.org, 2017). Whilst doing
my case study, I noticed that the patients that I interviewed had experienced some work related
issues. The asthma patient had to refrain from any physical activity while he was at school before
exercise could trigger his asthmasymptoms. Also, the influenza patient mentioned that they had to
take some time off work in order not to expose their colleagues to the influenza virus. Towards the
ending of the month, they found that their income was affected by the time off and said they
would have to work harder when they returned to catch up. From this, it is clear that work related
issues can affect individuals negatively, however some issues related to work can affect health care
professionals too.
The work force can be affected by work related issues. If a particular organization is under staffed
(e.g. a hospital), they will be more dependent on agency workers. Agency s may charge the
organization more for the help that they will provide to the organization. This may mean that more
money is spent on staffing than on the support of patients. An example of this is when more money

It is the fastest growing part of Wal Mart, with nearly 30 percent sales growth in June, compared

as a way to analyze the world. These people became known as Surrealists. One of the most famous
surrealist artists was Salvador DalГ. DalГ s piece The Temptation of SaintAnthonyis a prime
example of Surrealism.
Surrealist paintings are described as dreamlike and fantastical. Much of DalГ s paintings were
images he had dreamed up. He said that he would paint what almost seem like photographs from
his dreams. DalГ took Sigmund Freud s idea that dreams are symbolic. Objects can symbolize
something as well as take on a pun on the word. Much of the ... Show more content on

The last elephant carries another tower that symbolizes a phallic figure. It is said that the long legs
of horse and elephants symbolize levitation and nearness to heaven. However, the thinness of the
legs could also symbolize weak legs holding up the elephants and horse, weakly holding up the
resistance to temptation. The woman on the Cup of Desire and inside the temple are said to be
reincarnated devils.
DalГ s surrealist The Temptation of Saint Anthony combines ideas and images that are not possible
in the physical world. Looking at the painting, the objects would make no sense. However, if
interpreted like people often interpret dreams, The Temptation of Saint Anthony shows the story of
the devil luring Saint Anthony. Because these images are only possible in the subconscious, they
are considered surrealist.

A Few Miles South Of Soledad, The Salinas River
A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep
and green. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the
sunlight before reaching the narrow pool. On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve
up to the strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees
willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the
winter s flooding; and sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over
the pool. On the sandy bank under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp that a lizard makes a
great skittering if he runs among them. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the
evening, and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of coons, and with the spread pads of
dogs from the ranches, and with the split wedge tracks of deer that come to drink in the dark.
There is a path through the willows and among the sycamores, a path beaten hard by boys
coming down from the ranches to swim in the deep pool, and beaten hard by tramps who come
wearily down from the highway in the evening to jungle up near water. In front of the low
horizontal limb of a giant sycamore there is an ash pile made by many fires; the limb is worn
smooth by men who have sat on it.
Evening of a hot day started the little wind to moving among the leaves. The shade climbed up the
hills toward the top. On

***Event/Disaster
Hurricane Katrina hit the City of New Orleans which is 15 thousand square miles underwater, killed
1, 245 people with the hurricane and subsequent floods, with an estimated of One hundred and eight
billion dollar deficit. Hurricane Katrina was the deadliest hurricane in the United States since 1928.
The floodwaters erupted at the Industrial street canal, 17 street canals (the waters of Lake
Pontchartrain tore the wall 450ft long) and the London street canal. (Telegraph 2015)
****AFTERMATH Water Pollution
Several chemical plants, petroleum refining facilities, and contaminated sites, including Superfund
sites, were covered by floodwaters. Hundreds of commercial establishments, such as service
stations, pest control businesses, and dry cleaners, released potentially hazardous chemicals into the
floodwaters.
In the confusion immediately after the flooding, the amount of contamination was not known. Oil
slicks near some service stations and flooded automobiles and wastes floating or suspended in
floodwaters provided clear evidence of some environmental releases.

Verb Subject Agreement Issues in Association with VSO and SVO Word Order Patterns in Hijazi
Arabic
Abrar Abdulrahman J. Alsanosi
California State University, Fullerton
1.Introduction Arabic belongs to the Semitic language family. It has a complex syntactic structure
and inflectional morphology. Throughout this paper, the main variety of Arabic to be syntactically
investigated is Hijazi Arabic which is spoken mainly in the Hijaz region, the western coast of Saudi
Arabia.
There are two basic types of sentences in Hijazi Arabic, the nominal sentence which starts with a
noun, and the verbal sentence which starts with a verb (Mohammad, 2000: 2). As in:

Similarities Between Romanticism And Yeats
By the 1780s, the British Industrial Revolution, which had been developing for several decades,
began to accelerate further; technology changed. The economic transformation brought about the
British industrial revolution along with social reformation (Sparknotes.com, n.d.)
But not everyone was thrilled by this brave new world. The poets of the Romantic Movement also
found a great deal to criticize about the Industrial Revolution. The new technologies and their use
grew out of eighteenth century rationalism, which held that man could employ science to control
the earth the way he pleased. The Romantic Movement was a reaction to this philosophy, and held
that man was a part of nature and needed to respect and care for the earth. This view extended to
humanity as well as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His later works, though, focused mostly on politics (due to his love with Maud Gonne) and
ultimately grew to darker poetry due to the continuous rejection by Isabelle Maud Gonne s
daughter. This is evident in the poems; Adam s Curse, September 1913, To a Young Girl, Politics
and Death.
The only similarity between these two poets is the romanticism in Wordsworth s poems and Yeats
early work. Wordsworth was in love with nature and his environment. He admired simplicity and
believed, throughout his poems that nature gave out major messages when looked at closely. Yeats
early work was based on his love for Ireland and its countryside. Yeats always tried to revive the
lost importance of Ireland in its people. This can mainly be seen in the poem September 1913.
Wordsworth quite intentionally turned his back on the Enlightenment traditions of poetry. He
instead looked more to the Renaissance and the Classics of Greek and Latin epic poetry for
motivation. His work was noted for its

Free Cash Flow and Butler
Introduction Butler Capital Partners (Butler) is an investment fund founded in 1990. Butler closed
its first private equity fund, European Strategic Fund, in 1991. This first fund was mainly
focusing on small family owned enterprises and on divisions of larger companies. Mainly of his
first success he closed in 1998 his second fund, Private Equity II, and Butler became one of the
largest independent funds in France. With his second fund he would focus on investments in
France on a larger scale. On April 29, 1999, a new investment opportunity arose for Butler:

Butler found some important development opportunities for AD: (1) an increase in penetration rate
of AD s CBU among the affiliates by setting up an efficient IT system for purchasing, (2) external
growth opportunities in France by integration of affiliates or acquisitions of independent
wholesalers, (3) expansion opportunities in Europe provided by the fragmentation of the industry,
(4) low competition on acquisitions because of the lack of players able to afford a dynamic build up
strategy, (5) strong growth potential of industrial supplies segment and (6) potential of development
of fleet maintenance and agreements with insurance companies. These opportunities will result in
an increase in gross margins through acquisition of independent wholesalers and integration of
affiliated wholesalers. Furthermore, a reduction of operation costs can be the result, because of the
IT system. With the existence of an efficient IT system, the margins can be improved or the prices
can be cut and these effects are even stronger with consolidation / expanding in the European
market. Besides these opportunities there is an opportunity for an e business market. Butler stated
this as В‘one edge over the competitors . Thus by expanding the business (through e business,
acquisitions, integration) and making use of the new technology systems, AD could realize
significant margin improvement. These high margin improvements are expected to increase from

The Biological Causes For Serial Killers
Introduction: This investigation examines the biological causes for serial killers psychopathic
tendencies and examines those same biological factors in both men and women to find the
correlation between a higher rate of male serial killers and the biology behind their actions. It is
imperitave to first know what a serial killeris, and what makes them such a cold fish. There are
sections of the brain that do have control over a human being s personality, where that individual
can either develop into an average person or join the other one percent of psychopaths living in
the world today (due to physical damage or chemical imbalance in the brain). These specific
sections of the brain are different in males then in females, some components of the brain vary in
size etc. between sexes. It is crucial to have all these pieces, with this information its then possible
to form a conlusion to the surfaced question. To stretch ones knowledge and understanding of
serial killers a necasssary source is the Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, second edition by Micheal
Newton , which gives detailed insight on the worlds most infamous serial killers and their tactics,
not including other informative articles sited later on in the analysis. In addition to that source,
another applicable book would be The Emotional Brain by Joseph LeDoux, assisting in learning the
physical structures of the brain that control ones emotions and motivations, as well as the male

A clear marketing plan will acts as a proposal for the company to achieve goals. Other than that, a
clear marketing plan will also achieve competitive advantage in term of cost leadership, and the
differentiation of new or existing products and services (Keetch, n.d.). With a marketing plan, the
company will know the pricing of the competitors, thus the company will try to reduce the cost of
the product and lower the price in order to compete with competitors. Through differentiation
strategy, company will distinguish their own products by increasing the quality of the products or
making improvement towards the product to gain competitive advantage.
The drawback of marketing plan is marketing plan will lead to wrong decision making (Bellis,

Essay about J. Alfred Prufrock
J. Alfred Prufrock is He Gay When we read T. S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock you
almost get the feeling that Prufrock is gay. In fact, when the story is read a bit more in depth you
can conclude that he is gay.
The first flag that is raised to our attention of prufrock being gay is the fact that not once do we
hear the name of his so called lover or even him calling her a lady. Therefore we might be able to
conclude that this lady is in fact a guy. This would in turn bring up many situations in the story that
are not brought to light if this story was read in different text.

He wants to murder the mask that he is wearing. He wants to come out and then recreate himself.
However, when the first realization of his homosexuality comes to mind Prufrock starts second
guessing himself. In lines thirty one through thirty four we see this in decisiveness. Prufrock then
starts thinking of his appearance if he were to let this be known. He thinks about how his perfect
world is not ready for a idea of this magnitude to come forth. Prufrock knows that if his
homosexuality was to be known, the perfect universe that he knows would the destroyed.
At first glance lines forty nine through sixty one seem to be about him wanting death. This,
however, is not the case. Furthermore, we see him asking himself what he should do if he does
come out and tell people of his sexuality. He is weighing the possibilities and the reprocutions of
his decision. He finnaly comes to the conclusion that evrything is alright now and he does not
want to disturb this peacfulness. Line eighty seven clearly tells us that he did not come out. Yet he
is also second guessing his decision. No, he tells himself, it would not have been worth his own
morality to ruin everyones perfect picture of himself. Prufrock would miss the boring events, or
would he?
In truth, we find that Prufrock would have rather told the truth about his homosexuality. But, we
find that he is insecure about himself. With his lack of insecurity

The Theory X And Theory Essay
As an important philosophy in the management, the management theory has a direct impact on the
organisation s development. At the same time, it was suggested that when superiors do not
supervise subordinates, subordinates will complain about everything and started to become lazy,
they even spoke ill of each other and caused trouble (Blaug, 1999). Based on the research, this essay
argues that a good manager should have the basic knowledge of human psychology, and even learn
about the needs of subordinates to help them work enthusiastically without strict management. This
essay first analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the theory X, which related to Blaug s
statement. Subsequently, it compares theory X and theory Y to give an overview of both. Finally,
this essay states which theory that managers should choose for the current regulatory environment.
Both Douglas McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y have their strengths and its weaknesses. One of
the advantages that this theory is quite understandable. On the other hand, it can help managers
focus on two different types of individuals: individual work and personal hate willing to work.
Because of the weaknesses and shortcomings, the theory can hardly be used right now.
According to McGregor, theory X assumes people dislike work, lack ambition, are irresponsible
and prefer to be led, while theory Y assumes people are willing to work and accept responsibility,
and are self directed and creative. Based on some research, theory

In the article, Physical Activity and Mortality, Professor Ulf Ekelund, a sports medicine professor
who works in the Medical Research Council (MRC) Epidemiology unit at the university of
Cambridge in the UK, and his colleagues report their findings about the impact lack of exercise has
on health. Professor Ekelund organizes his article in a manner in which may make it difficult to
read, but he certainly conveys his argument very well, through the use of ethos, pathos, and logos.
In the article he explains about the cohort study he has conducted on whether obesity, or inactivity
is more likely to lead death faster. After the study Ekelund concludes that even the slightest
increase in activity has been proven to be beneficial to health and increases life expectancy. He
starts his article off with background information on his study, and proceeds to add various topics

Professor Ekelund starts the article by giving an abstract containing an in depth view into the
background of his study, which states, The higher risk of death resulting from excess adiposity may
be attenuated by physical activity (PA). (Ekelund, 1). With this statement the reader gains a greater
understanding of what the article is going to be about: The correlations between obesity and death,
and exercise and death. In the abstract Ekelund also gives some insight into what the study will

This summed up their sense of belonging, ensured by having their own territory and being with
their own race. The need for belonging stemmed from their perception and actual experiences not
only in school but the community as a whole. There was always the fight for one s own turf. This
was emphasized during this scene that showed the two Latinos who had to run from the group of
Cambodians who were chasing them and the attack on these Latinos that necessitated them to split

her to be physically harmed. This scene highlighted that though they belonged to one community,
they did not quite see themselves as part of that community and sub groups or tribes abounded
because it was in these smaller groups that they found security. They needed to form groups

race needed to establish that they were not inferior over the others. But all of these initial behavior

The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card
The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card
The perfect words, the right sentiments, the ability to say exactly what we ourselves can t: just a
few ways greeting cards are defined. Greeting cards, the stars of today, started with a humble
beginning. The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who
exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the early Egyptians, who
conveyed their greetings on papyrus scrolls. By the early 1400s, handmade paper greeting cards
were being exchanged in Europe. The Germans are known to have printed New Year s greetings
from woodcuts as early as 1400, and handmade paper Valentines were being exchanged in various
parts of Europe in the early to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First in person, then via post, by 1822, homemade Christmas cards had become the bane of the
U.S. postal system. That year, the Superintendent of Mails in Washington, D.C., complained of the
need to hire sixteen extra mailmen. Fearful of future bottlenecks, he petitioned Congress to limit
the exchange of cards by post, concluding, I don t know what we ll do if it keeps on . (Panati) Of
the original one thousand cards printed for Henry Cole, twelve exist today in private collections.
Printed cards soon became the rage in England; then in Germany. But it required an additional thirty
years for Americans to take to the idea. In 1875, Boston lithographer Louis Prang, a native of
Germany, began publishing cards, and earned the title father of the American Christmas card. Prang
s high quality cards were costly, and they initially featured not images as the Madonna and Child,
a decorated tree, or even Santa Claus, but of colored floral arrangements of roses, daisies,
gardenias, geraniums, and apple blossoms. Americans took to Christmas cards, but unfortunately,
not to Prang s; he was forced out of business in 1890. It was cheap penny

Britain And The American Colonies
There is always a difference between the ones that conquer and the ones that are conquered. In this
case, Britain and the American colonies developed great gaps during time, not only religious,
economical and finally cultural. The beginning of this separation between the colonists and Britain
runs deep. The Britain crown didn t invest directly in the search of colonies in the Americasand by
doing so, it gave the colonist a lose rope to start developing a new vision.
The colonists had little or nothing to report directly to the crown and what they reported could take
months to reach Britain and even more for Britain to do something about it. The vision that Britain
developed from America is the response to the vision that is created during the first years of the
colony. A wild land with abundance of resources that can generate a profit to the empire. In this
vision the colonies are not seen as part of the empire. It is a land that it is in the power of Britain s
to be used as they see fit. This would generate big problems in the future when the population and
popularity of the colonies start to grow proportionally with the profit that the colonies generate.
The fact that the Britain government did not have a strong presence in the colonies is the first step
to a new mentality. Of course, the change of mentality took generations, and even when the general
population respected the Britain crown, the devotion to a king that an ocean away from the started

Rashormon by Akira Kurosawa
The narrative in Akira Kurosawa s 1950 Rashomon is famous for its unconventional style and
structure, its method of storytelling is based on the characters perception of the truth, in film and
television it is often referred to as the Rashomon effect. The visual style and symmetry are
compelling proponents of the films symbolism, Kurosawa s use of sunlight and dark shadows
symbolizes the clarity of the story, an example would be the use of sunlight as good faith and the
shadows as a dark impulse. The film tells the story of one event with four different accounts to it,
each story is altered so that the truth is distorted or otherwise based on each characters perception
of what has transpired. Kurosawa used four different alternate versions in the story as the narrative
in the film, it is structured so the audience could have their own thoughts and perception of the real
truth. Kurosawa also uses the philosophy of justice to show how human nature and moral
relativism cannot tell the absolute truth without the bias of ones experience, in other words the
problem with the truth is that it is based on perception. Kurosawa adapted the story plot and
characters from In the Grove written by RyЕ«nosuke Akutagawa, he wanted the film to be objective
keep the characters perfectly aligned with the original story by RyЕ«nosuke Akutagawa. The
narrative of the film Rashomonis based on the perception of each character that participated in the
event that occurs in the film, so in some ways

Merridew And Hitler In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Merridew and Hitler are able to effectively communicate their ideas, which is a result of
outstanding public speaking skills. Being able to communicate these ideas is a very strong
factor that allows them to persuade them to become followers. Jack was aware of the fact that
he had to make this tribe more captivating than Ralph s. He addresses the group of undecided
boys after providing them with a feast of pig meat and berries, I gave you food... and my hunters
will protect you from the beast. Who will join my tribe? (150, Golding). By pledging
nourishment and protection, two of the biggests concerns of the boys stranded on the island,
Jack is very quickly able to gain the support of a good number of the boys on the island. The

Correspondingly, to gain the support of the German s, Hitler told the citizens what they wanted
to hear. In 1929, the stock market crash not only affected the United States, but many European
countries, including Germany. The German people were quickly attracted to Hitler s promise of
news jobs, a strong economy, and military power. WIth the hardships that the Great Depression
brought to the society, the people were desperate for any and all relief that could get them back
on their feet. Using similar leading tactics, both Jack and Hitler developed methods of persuasion
to win over the groups they were trying to obtain. Both leaders were able to gain the support of
many through persuasion and promises, but after they gained that power, they used it as a way to
control their followers. The two were able to successfully do this because of the amount of faith
people had in them. Hitler once said, What luck for rulers that men do not think. In this sentence
explains in simple word, that when followers put huge amounts of trust in their leaders to make the
correct choices, they don t think twice about the actions that their leaders take part in. In

The Contagion Of Contagion And Vaccines
Contagion/Vaccines If I was to quarantine an individual in a Utilitarian system, I would have
them placed into a room by themselves in a hospital. They would be provided with any sort of
necessities. Family members would be allowed to come into their room to visit, as long as they
were fully protected. The main concern would be to keep them away from other people so they do
not spread the deadly disease, but still keep them content. This keeps the disease contained to the
one personrather than spreading even further, benefiting the greater number. They may not
leave the room until they have been treated or cleared by a doctor. If for some reason they did
escape, threatening many others to become ill, they would have to pay a very large fine. If there
was a nation needing to be quarantined under a Utilitarian system, I would let no individual cross
state borders. The border of each state would have military men lining it. If they were to go
against this and somehow sneak out of their state, they would face jail time in their near future. In
the movie, Contagion, they did not let anyone leave the state, which caused riots and panic in the
citizen s living there. To stop this from happening, I would have selective individuals from each
town that had been cleared by a doctor, go out and work the stores, clean up the streets and try to
keep the town as put together as possible. This would help make the situation more comforting than
nerve wracking. If I was to quarantine

Essay on Varying Patterns of Speciation
Varying Patterns of Speciation
Wallace s line, located in the Malay Archipelago, is one of the best known and most studied
boundaries of zoogeography in the world. It is a transition zone between the islands of Borneo and
Sulawesi and the islands of Bali and Lombork, which marks both the convergence and division of
the diverse flora and fauna found in the Asian (Borneo, The Philippines, and Western Indonesia),
and the Australian regions (Sulawesi, Eastern Indonesia, Australia, and New Guinea) (Schulte
2003). The hypothetical line was first proposed by Alfred Russel Wallace in 1858 after observing
many morphological differences of various bird species in the Asian and Australian regions (Raven
1935). In the past, to confirm the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around 140 million years ago India separated from the still connected South America African and
Antarctica Australian landmasses and drifted northward until it collided with Eurasia (Europe and
Asia). This collision created a continental block which caused a separation of the Antarctica
Australia landmass and caused the individual landmasses to shift in opposite directions (Whitmore
1981). This separation formed an underwater ocean ridge, which caused Australia to drift
northwestward. Around 15 million years ago, Australia converged with Asia, uniting the diverse
flora and fauna of both regions (Schulte 2003; Whitmore 1981). It was then the continuous
separation of these two landmasses that has dynamically shaped the present day distribution of
unique ecosystems and species found on the Asian and Australian continents, as well as on the
islands in the Malay Archipelago.
When Wallace drew his hypothetical line to define the boundary between Asian and Australian
zoology, he had an incomplete understanding of continental drift and plate tectonics. He only used
morphological observations of cockatoos found on Lombork and Bali, and of parrots found on
Borneo and Sulawesi, to support the placement of his line

U.s. Navy After Spending Over $ 13 Billion
This case deals with the recently cancelled project that was sponsored by the U.S Navy after
spending over $13 billion in research and development. U.S congress announced to cancel the
missile destroyer (Z class warship) after completing the construction of two ships. This decision
was taken due to this project is highly controversial, high cost of construction, and poor scope
management. Having a third party to overlook the project could have prevented this from being an
expensive failure.

The Zumwalt class destroyer design included a tumblehome hull, which is an inverted bow. The
tumblehome hull had two big benefits. First being that is cut through the waves instead of riding
them. Secondly and most importantly the design This technology included the use of composite
radar absorbing materials and a unique hull reducing the ability to be detected by opposing radars,
which has been stated to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) by returning much less energy than
a conventional flare hull form. The U.S. Naval Institute stated the original design of the ship would
have had a much smaller RCS, but cost considerations prompted the Navy over the last several
years to make the trades in increasing RCS to save money...
The first ship built was named Zumwalt for Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, and is identified with DDG
1000 . The original plan was to have 32 ships built with a $9.6 billion cost for research and
development for the Zumwalt class. As the project ran on the cost of the project started to rise
exponentially and was reduced to 24, then to 7, and finally to 3. Which increased the cost per ship
to $3.96 billion

Three outliers were eliminated from the experiment to maintain reliability since these participants were recognised for randomly selecting z or m without accurately identifying whether the body was indeed muscular or scrawny. Therefore, the analysis was performed on the remaining participants. The JND (M =21.44, SD = 13.05), in the inverted condition was greater compared to the upright condition (M= 19.18, SD = 11.46) refer to table 1. In his speech, Aristophanes engages in the discussion of love, encompassing human nature as whole rather than individualistic aspects. According to a myth, we were originally created as a single being, united with our beloved. As pairs, we were quite powerful and chaotic, such that the god had to split us into two. Thereafter, life became pursuit, a pursuit for the other half, a quot;pursuit for wholeness, to be complete. quot; And thesis what Aristophanes defines as love. He believes that love is innate: quot; love is born into every human being quot;. He is expressing that the phenomenon of love is as natural and inherent to us as breathing itself. Like other amenities of life, Love fulfills us. quot;To be in love is to see the other individual as a special complement to one s existence. quot; Socrates, on the other hand, defines love as the desire to possess good and beautiful entities, which he presently lacks. By a dialectical method, questioning Agathon, he manifests that love cannot presently possess the object of affection. Even when he desires what he has, what he really desire is quot;the preservation of what he now has in time to come, so that he will have it then. quot; It follows then, that he wants, rather than has the good. Thus, Love itself is not beautiful. This however, does not imply that Love is ugly or evil. Rather, Love is in between; just as there is something between wisdom and ... • 15. Environmental Waste And Its Effects On Carbon Emissions To get around the issue of these powerful companies being upset from the negative financial impact from the move to zero carbon, a shift must be made in governmental policy. Perhaps the solution may not be punishing companies for producing too much pollution, but rewarding companies for producing much less. In this way, the market for carbon emissions will eventually disappear and naturally profit seeking companies will aim to pursue activities, hunt for new strategies, and invest in infrastructure and equipment that result in lower carbon emissions. Beyond the simple reward proposition, however, greener policies often result in higher long term profitability for companies nonetheless. Environmental waste is often the best proxy for identifying and eliminating economic waste, meaning that many companies are currently increasing their profitability while simultaneously following a strategy in pursuance of zero carbon emissions. In fact, notoriously profit focused companies like Tesco and WalMart have announced their intentions to pursue environmental action not out of moral motivation, but in clear quests for greater profitability. The reason for their actions is the simple recognition that environmental and economic interests are often closely aligned. • 23. A Few Miles South Of Soledad, The Salinas River A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and green. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool. On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter s flooding; and sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool. On the sandy bank under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp that a lizard makes a great skittering if he runs among them. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening, and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of coons, and with the spread pads of dogs from the ranches, and with the split wedge tracks of deer that come to drink in the dark. There is a path through the willows and among the sycamores, a path beaten hard by boys coming down from the ranches to swim in the deep pool, and beaten hard by tramps who come wearily down from the highway in the evening to jungle up near water. In front of the low horizontal limb of a giant sycamore there is an ash pile made by many fires; the limb is worn smooth by men who have sat on it. Evening of a hot day started the little wind to moving among the leaves. The shade climbed up the hills toward the top. On ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The economic transformation brought about the British industrial revolution along with social reformation (Sparknotes.com, n.d.) But not everyone was thrilled by this brave new world. The poets of the Romantic Movement also found a great deal to criticize about the Industrial Revolution. The new technologies and their use grew out of eighteenth century rationalism, which held that man could employ science to control the earth the way he pleased. The Romantic Movement was a reaction to this philosophy, and held that man was a part of nature and needed to respect and care for the earth. This view extended to humanity as well as the ... His later works, though, focused mostly on politics (due to his love with Maud Gonne) and ultimately grew to darker poetry due to the continuous rejection by Isabelle Maud Gonne s daughter. This is evident in the poems; Adam s Curse, September 1913, To a Young Girl, Politics and Death. The only similarity between these two poets is the romanticism in Wordsworth s poems and Yeats early work. Wordsworth was in love with nature and his environment. He admired simplicity and believed, throughout his poems that nature gave out major messages when looked at closely. Yeats early work was based on his love for Ireland and its countryside. Yeats always tried to revive the lost importance of Ireland in its people. This can mainly be seen in the poem September 1913. Wordsworth quite intentionally turned his back on the Enlightenment traditions of poetry. He instead looked more to the Renaissance and the Classics of Greek and Latin epic poetry for motivation. At the same time, it was suggested that when superiors do not supervise subordinates, subordinates will complain about everything and started to become lazy, they even spoke ill of each other and caused trouble (Blaug, 1999). Based on the research, this essay argues that a good manager should have the basic knowledge of human psychology, and even learn about the needs of subordinates to help them work enthusiastically without strict management. This essay first analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the theory X, which related to Blaug s statement. Subsequently, it compares theory X and theory Y to give an overview of both. Finally, this essay states which theory that managers should choose for the current regulatory environment. Both Douglas McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y have their strengths and its weaknesses. • 44. Britain And The American Colonies There is always a difference between the ones that conquer and the ones that are conquered. In this case, Britain and the American colonies developed great gaps during time, not only religious, economical and finally cultural. The beginning of this separation between the colonists and Britain runs deep. The Britain crown didn t invest directly in the search of colonies in the Americasand by doing so, it gave the colonist a lose rope to start developing a new vision. The colonists had little or nothing to report directly to the crown and what they reported could take months to reach Britain and even more for Britain to do something about it. The vision that Britain developed from America is the response to the vision that is created during the first years of the colony. A wild land with abundance of resources that can generate a profit to the empire. In this vision the colonies are not seen as part of the empire. It is a land that it is in the power of Britain s to be used as they see fit. This would generate big problems in the future when the population and popularity of the colonies start to grow proportionally with the profit that the colonies generate. The fact that the Britain government did not have a strong presence in the colonies is the first step to a new mentality. Of course, the change of mentality took generations, and even when the general population respected the Britain crown, the devotion to a king that an ocean away from the started to create a ... Kurosawa also uses the philosophy of justice to show how human nature and moral relativism cannot tell the absolute truth without the bias of ones experience, in other words the problem with the truth is that it is based on perception. Kurosawa adapted the story plot and characters from In the Grove written by RyЕ«nosuke Akutagawa, he wanted the film to be objective keep the characters perfectly aligned with the original story by RyЕ«nosuke Akutagawa. • 48. The Contagion Of Contagion And Vaccines Contagion/Vaccines If I was to quarantine an individual in a Utilitarian system, I would have them placed into a room by themselves in a hospital. They would be provided with any sort of necessities. Family members would be allowed to come into their room to visit, as long as they were fully protected. The main concern would be to keep them away from other people so they do not spread the deadly disease, but still keep them content. This keeps the disease contained to the one personrather than spreading even further, benefiting the greater number. They may not leave the room until they have been treated or cleared by a doctor. If for some reason they did escape, threatening many others to become ill, they would have to pay a very large fine. If there was a nation needing to be quarantined under a Utilitarian system, I would let no individual cross state borders. The border of each state would have military men lining it. If they were to go against this and somehow sneak out of their state, they would face jail time in their near future. In the movie, Contagion, they did not let anyone leave the state, which caused riots and panic in the citizen s living there. To stop this from happening, I would have selective individuals from each town that had been cleared by a doctor, go out and work the stores, clean up the streets and try to keep the town as put together as possible. This would help make the situation more comforting than nerve wracking. If I was to quarantine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Essay on Varying Patterns of Speciation Varying Patterns of Speciation Wallace s line, located in the Malay Archipelago, is one of the best known and most studied boundaries of zoogeography in the world. It is a transition zone between the islands of Borneo and Sulawesi and the islands of Bali and Lombork, which marks both the convergence and division of the diverse flora and fauna found in the Asian (Borneo, The Philippines, and Western Indonesia), and the Australian regions (Sulawesi, Eastern Indonesia, Australia, and New Guinea) (Schulte 2003). The hypothetical line was first proposed by Alfred Russel Wallace in 1858 after observing many morphological differences of various bird species in the Asian and Australian regions (Raven 1935). In the past, to confirm the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around 140 million years ago India separated from the still connected South America African and Antarctica Australian landmasses and drifted northward until it collided with Eurasia (Europe and Asia). This collision created a continental block which caused a separation of the Antarctica Australia landmass and caused the individual landmasses to shift in opposite directions (Whitmore 1981). This separation formed an underwater ocean ridge, which caused Australia to drift northwestward. Around 15 million years ago, Australia converged with Asia, uniting the diverse flora and fauna of both regions (Schulte 2003; Whitmore 1981). It was then the continuous separation of these two landmasses that has dynamically shaped the present day distribution of unique ecosystems and species found on the Asian and Australian continents, as well as on the islands in the Malay Archipelago. When Wallace drew his hypothetical line to define the boundary between Asian and Australian zoology, he had an incomplete understanding of continental drift and plate tectonics. He only used morphological observations of cockatoos found on Lombork and Bali, and of parrots found on Borneo and Sulawesi, to support the placement of his line ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Zumwalt class destroyer design included a tumblehome hull, which is an inverted bow. The tumblehome hull had two big benefits. First being that is cut through the waves instead of riding them. Secondly and most importantly the design This technology included the use of composite radar absorbing materials and a unique hull reducing the ability to be detected by opposing radars, which has been stated to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) by returning much less energy than a conventional flare hull form. The U.S. Naval Institute stated the original design of the ship would have had a much smaller RCS, but cost considerations prompted the Navy over the last several years to make the trades in increasing RCS to save money...
