An outline of the purpose of technology in education, pedagogical approaches to the integration of technology and a range of tools that are suitable for primary and secondary languages learners.
Common tech tools to create a better learning environment in classrooms: 1. Learning Management Systems (LMS) 2. Interactive Whiteboards 3. Educational Apps 4. Online Collaboration Tools 5. Digital Resources
Findings and recommendations from an action research project where 6 tutors in a large FE college have worked together to experiment with a class set of iPads
Low-Code App Development for Personalized Learning Experiences.pdfAshutosh Kalbande
ow-code app development is an innovative approach that allows users to build applications with minimal
coding knowledge. It provides a visual development environment where developers can drag-and-drop prebuilt components, connect them through a user-friendly interface, and configure logic and behavior using a
visual editor. Low-code platforms abstract away much of the complexity, enabling rapid application
development while reducing the reliance on traditional coding techniques.
2. Session Objectives
• To actively demonstrate and explore how iPads can
be purposefully used as a teaching and learning tool
within the context of the primary classroom.
• To allow participating teachers ample opportunities
to experiment with a range of literacy focused
teaching and learning applications.
• To create, collaborate and finally share a variety of
literacy based teaching resources using a variety of
applications.

With educational goals as the starting point, not an
afterthought, teachers can help students use, and then
transcend technology as they learn. Most importantly,
look for technology that uses questions to foster
curiosity and the joy of discovery.

Editor's Notes
Introductory notes and details.
The main focus of these sessions is to ensure that teachers have adequate time to experiment with, trial and discuss the practical application of the ICT resources in this session. We want to focus on the practical implementation of these ICT based resources so as to ignite interest in their suggested use within teaching and learning in the Irish primary context.
Brief overview of main functions and features of the iPad so as to ensure that all participants can follow the session and engage with the applications, tasks and activities. I will also mention the key SEN & Accessibility panel features and functions so as to build awareness of the possible use of the iPad to accommodate a range of learning needs and styles.
In using tablet technology we will demonstrate how schools are moving through the three phases of engagement in the use of tablet technology. For example in the Consume Phase schools generally use Apps for whole class or small group activities in literacy. The majority of the Apps are based on the rote skills or facts and generally have to be extended to higher order tasks through teacher questioning and extension activities. In the Create Phase pupils create presentations of their work through annotation, video, audio and picture – they can then relay and present their findings to the whole group by using ICT to demonstrate their learning points. In the Collaborate Phase teachers focus on applications that allow pupils to work together, capture and record their work in co-operative, paired or collaborative exercises in literacy lessons.
Bring participants through the four key sections above with a focus on how apps can be used to accommodate various learning needs and styles. Also investigate if the app can challenge, motivate and or / engage your students as outlined for teachers above. Finish by accessing the Kathy Shrock iPads for teaching link to find simple critical evaluation checklists for evaluating the purpose of the app in classroom instruction.
Bring participants through the activity on screen so as engage with the key features of this app – always relate to ideas for implementing this resource on return to the classroom.
Guide participants through the key features of the apps above as outlined on slide – relate to classroom practice in the development of writing skills across a range of class levels and as a cross-curricular skill.
A sample lesson outline using the applications above to incorporate assessment and feedback through ICT within a literacy lesson.
A selection of other apps that can be used to develop the literacy skills outlined as per slide above.
Point participants to the areas of PDST websites as per slide where they can access further ICT and literacy resources for teaching and learning.
A final reflection from recent research carried out by Howard Gardner in relation to the developing role of ICT, and particularly the iPad, in primary education within global education – see http://yalepress.yale.edu/yupbooks/book.asp?isbn=9780300196214.
