The student reflects on improvements made from their preliminary school magazine cover to the final music magazine product. 2. School magazine
By looking back at my school
magazine front cover, it is
obvious to see that I have
improved a lot. I think I could
make my school magazine a
lot better if I was to use the
techniques I know now.
The front cover is too bare and some of the writing is quite difficult to
read. I think the main picture would have looked better with a
background, the original picture has a wall behind it so I could have used
that. I think I did an ok first attempt of a front cover.

3. School magazine
I prefer my contents page to my
front cover because it’s got more on
it, however I still think I could
improve it a lot using the techniques
I know now. The pictures I used
weren’t very planned out and the
poses were spontaneous which is
clear to see.
I like the fact that the pictures are good quality images. I like my music magazine
contents page because I can fill it with text and pictures.

4. Front covers
By looking at both front covers side by
side it is easy to see that I have
improved a lot. I have added more text
onto my music magazine cover which
has made it look less bare. I used a
similar layout for both front covers and
based both of them on Q magazine.
On my school magazine the main picture is very white which makes it blend in with the background
slightly where as the picture on my music magazine has sharpened and clear colours to make it
stand out. The text on my school magazine is too small and some of the fonts are really difficult to
read but on my music magazine they are all bold and easy to read.

5. Contents pages
Seeing these two contents page next to
each other again it is clear to see that I
have improved a lot. I based both
contents pages on Q as well in order to
keep the same style throughout the
magazines.
The most obvious improvement between the two contents pages is that I’ve included an advert onto
my music magazine, I did this to make it look more like a real magazine. I looked at lots of different
adverts and felt that the Kings of Leon one would appeal most to my target audience. I also kept in
the original background for the main picture on my music contents page because I felt it made it look
more complete. My school magazine contents page looks empty without a background.

6. Double page spread
I used similar a similar style and similar
colours throughout my music magazine. I
made the picture black and white so that it
contrasted against the white background, I
did that using Photoshop Cs6.
When I started making my double page spread, I had all the
knowledge of the editing software after making the rest of my
magazine. I kept the same colours and style throughout the whole
of my magazine.

7. To conclude
By making my media product I have been able to learn how to use photoshop and
indesign properly. I personally think that my magazine has gotten a lot better over time.
Looking back at the preliminary task it is clear to see that my designs have matured over
time. Whilst making and evaluating my media product I have used many different
technologies for the first time.
