The student learned several important lessons when progressing from their preliminary work to the final product. They created a storyboard and conducted multiple planned photo shoots to ensure they had enough quality images. For the final product, they researched and styled their model to match genre conventions. Professional equipment like a studio camera and lighting were also used to make the photos look more polished compared to shots taken around campus. Advanced editing tools in Photoshop helped achieve a professional, slick look compared to the unedited preliminary work.

1. Looking back at your preliminary
work, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to
the full product?

2. When preparing to take my photo’s for the
product I prepared a story board so I would have
an idea of the amount of images I would need to
take. I carried out 3 photo shoots, and had
plenty of photo’s to choose from, as opposed to
when I took my preliminary photos and did not
preparation at all.

3. I also put a lot of thought into my model. When
doing my preliminary shoot I just picked random
people and took the pictures on the spot. When
producing my coursework, I had researched
what models in the Rock genre tend to look like
and wear and then styled my model around
these conventions. This made my product look
more professional as opposed to my preliminary
work.

4. When doing my preliminary work I took my
photos around college and outside. Although
they were of good quality, they did not look
professional. When producing my coursework, I
used a professional camera in a studio with
artificial lighting, which the camera was set to
match. This made the photo’s look professional
and enabled me to capture the exact look that I
was trying to achieve.

5. My preliminary coursework is very basic. I did
not edit any of the photos or use any of the
features and tools within Photoshop. When
producing my coursework I edited the contrast
of all my images and adjusted settings such as
making them black and white. I also used
several other tools such as the clone stamp and
the magic wand which enabled me to achieve
the professional look I was aiming for.

6. Overall, my preliminary work looks very basic
and not at all professional in comparison to my
final finished product. Throughout production,
my skills improved which made for an overall
more profession, slick looking product.
