2. Question 6: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE
PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
During construction of the product, the technologies I have
learnt to use are;
• Cameras
• Adobe Photoshop (Production Company Logo+ Opening
sequence Title)
• Serif MoviePlus (Animatic+ Opening sequence)
• Google Forms (Target Audience Questionnaire)
• Weebly (Internet)
• Slideshare (Internet)
• YouTube (Internet)
3. Question 6
• Firstly, one of the many technologies I have learnt to use is the 720p Video
Camera. After studying different camera angles, movements and rules from the
beginning of the school year, I could finally imitate these shots, and apply them to
my opening sequence, such as tracking shots as a way to document the actors in
the sequence, or shot reverse shot to demonstrate a conversation between two
characters. I also used close up shots to capture the characters emotions to
express to the audience how they are feeling. I used these new skills I had
acquired to demonstrate my range of knowledge and understanding of camera
angles and movement, for example I used an establishing wide shot because I
then knew that it gave an understanding to the audience as to where the action
will take place. I also used a tracking shot so that the audience feels involved in
the film as if they were the character. Furthermore, I used a close up shot on each
of the characters face’s to amerce the audience so they can see the emotion the
character is currently feeling. The only function of the camera I used was to
record, the availability of taking images was also built into the hand held camera
as well as a microphone, however I did not use the camera for photographs
because I had no need for images in my opening sequence. I had used the
microphone built into the camera purely for convenience, as opposed to using a
microphone as additional equipment for filming.
4. Question 6
• I also used the technology of Adobe Photoshop in which I
created both my opening sequence’s title and production
company logo. First of all I selected a font for my production
company logo, and created a black background using the
provided tools of Photoshop, such as the fill paint bucket.
Furthermore, I also used some of the commands in Photoshop
to create my opening sequence title. For example the colour of
my font was originally black upon a white background; however
I believed that the writing would look more appealing in white
on top of a black background so I used CTRL+I to invert the
colours making this possible. This benefitted my work as my
title looked more professional with a black background, and I
want my title and opening sequence to appear as professional
as I can possibly make it. Furthermore, I also used the
cropping tool as the font appeared too small on the screen, this
lead me to crop some of the black background surrounding my
opening sequence’s title.
5. Question 6
• One important technology I learnt to use was Serif MoviePlus editing
software. I did this to create and structure the order in which my cuts
would form. I also learnt how to edit the sound as well as clips using
this software. For example I had to re-shoot some scenes with a
different type of video camera which unfortunately had a lower quality
built in microphone; therefore I used MoviePlus to amplify the audio’s
decibels to match the volume of the original clips. I also used text
clips to layer over the clips, to state the actor’s names, who edited the
video, and who directed it as well. I also placed a picture clip both at
the beginning and end of the sequence; the first was the image of my
production company logo, and the last was a PNG file of my opening
title. These PNG images were placed onto the picture clips by
importing the media onto the software; this was done for all forms of
media included, such as MP4, MP3 and PNG. Furthermore, I also
added background audio of instrumental music towards the end of the
sequence for a dramatic effect of the audience. I also added a sound
effect of a gun shot at the start to go with my production company
logo as the logo features a gun as part of the picture clip.
6. Question 6
• I learnt how to use the internet for my project with four different websites/website
builders; Google Forms, Weebly, YouTube and Slideshare. Google form was used
to create a questionnaire for an audience to answer questions about the thriller
genre for my own research. I did this by creating questions and selecting whether
the answers would be closed or open. After the questionnaire was complete, I
shared it to social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram where a link was
available for people to answer the online survey in which I received 200+
responses, this benefited my work as this meant I got a much more accurate
reading of a target audience. Google Forms then presented my results in various
ways, such as listing worded responses, constructing pie charts and graphs. This
is beneficial as the way Google Forms presented the data was easy to
understand, which in return made the data easier to evaluate.
• I used Weebly to document and record all of my coursework by building my own
site. I did this in various ways, such as embedded codes for getting my videos
onto my website from YouTube. I also placed images and text boxes for the
written aspects of my coursework. In addition, I used YouTube to upload my video
to the internet; this then allowed me to place the embedded link of my video onto
Weebly. Similarly to this, I uploaded my power point slides to Slideshare for its
accessibility on the internet which allowed me to create an embedded code for yet
again my Weebly website. This lead to a much more professional appearance to
my collective work.
