2. Throughout the process of making my title opening sequence I have
developed my skills in many different areas.
The different technologies I have learnt to use are:
• Sony Camera
• Weebly
• Serif Movie Plus
• Google Forms
• Adobe Fireworks

3. Firstly, I have learnt how to use a Sony camera in the correct and most
effective manner. For example I learnt that the lengths of shots can affect
how a video is portrayed by an audience greatly. Using shorter and more
shots can increase the pace of a video whereas longer shots can help to
build a sense of drama. I have also learnt about the effectiveness of the rules
of framing which allowed me to subtly portray many different ideas to the
audience. For example in my opening sequence there’s a shot showing the
murderer cutting a newspaper and in the background there is a collage
around the theme of murder and therefore helps to create a more realistic
and immersive environment. I have also learnt about camera angles and what
they are used for within film and TV. The main camera angle I translated to
my opening sequence was the use of high and low angle. During the
conversation between the victim and the murderer I used a combination of
high angles to show power and low angles to show weakness. Another
technique I discovered was match on action, this is where you cut from one
shot to another view showing the action in more detail. I used this technique
in my opening sequence to show the antagonist opening the door, I did this
as it makes my opening sequence appear more professional as it allows the
audience to see what exactly is happening.

4. I have also learnt to use a website called ‘Weebly’ to upload and share all my
coursework. Including word documents, power points and videos . This has
allowed me to be able to organize all my work of different formats in an
organised and professional way. This website has also allowed me to keep all
my work in one place including my video. It allowed me to use a variety of
different websites to display my work in different formats all in the same
place using embedded codes. This is really useful as it allows me to refer to
any of my work at any time and also allows other people to use my work as
inspiration.

5. The editing software I used to create my opening sequence is called ‘Serif
Movie Plus’. This piece of software is very user friendly; this means that it
wasn’t too difficult for me to pick up as I have no prior experience with
editing software. After an hour of using the software I was capable of making
cuts meaning shortening clips to fit, I could fade clips in and out and add text
to a video which were all very useful skills for the production of my opening
sequence. Over the time it took me to create my opening sequence I have
developed my skills greatly, this can be seen as in my later drafts I have
included different features that are previously present. For example in later
drafts I used filters to change the how each shot looks; in shots involving his
ordinary life it has a blue tint to it whereas in scenes where his murderous
lifestyle is shown it has a red tint. This helps to create different moods for
different scenes making the audience more engrossed. I also had to learn
how to overlay audio tracks over a video as in one of my shots all that can be
heard is the wind. Therefore I recorded my footsteps on a quieter day and
played it over the original clip however this caused a problem as the sound
had to match the video and therefore I had to go back and re-film the
footsteps until they fit with the clip. The editing software also allowed me to
add transitions to my title logo to make it appear more professional. I chose
to make the shot unfocused and fade in the title, this made my opening
sequence seem more complete as it is a better paced ending.

6. I used Google Forms during the pre-production of my opening sequence. It
allowed me to share a survey which eventually helped me discover what my
main target audience wants in a film. The results were mainly in a numerical
format due to multiple choice questions this means that it was easy for me to
see trends within my target audience and therefore act on these trends.
However there was also an open ended question which meant that I could
take in lots of individual, specific ideas and act upon them how I wish. This
software helped me to create the best title sequence that I could for my target
audience as it meant that I could change and tweak my original idea.
Google Forms

7. I used Adobe Fireworks to create my title and my production company logo
as they are required for an opening sequence. This software was once again
user friendly which allowed me to create many different original designs. All
of my different ideas for my title vary greatly; this is due to the accessibility
of the software meaning that I could create many different ideas. To create
my title I had to use different tools, these included an outline and glow. I
chose a black outline with white text and a white glow as they contrast and
make them stand out more. This therefore draws the attention of the
audience to the title. I also chose a font which looks handwritten, I did this to
reflect the antagonist and make it appear that he could have written this
himself. For my production company logo I used boxes to create three
stripes of black. Within these I put my text which appears white. I once again
chose these colours so they stand out more and stand out to the audience.
Adobe Fireworks

8. To upload my video onto the internet and my Weebly account I used Youtube.
This website allowed me to create a free account which I could then upload
all my videos onto. From this I had to then collect the links which could then
be embedded onto my Weebly. This allows anyone who views my Weebly
page to be instantly able to see the final video. I also chose to use this as it
is often used my target audience and means that it’s likely that my target
audience will find it.

9. Slideshare was also an essential piece of software as it allowed me to upload
work online. This in turn allowed me to upload it to my Weebly page once
again by embedding it. This is another way in which people can view the
work it took to prepare for the video. It was also a more effective way of
presenting my research on actors, props, costume and locations. It created a
much more professional appearance making it more appealing to anyone.
