How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?By: Charlotte Myers
What mediums we used throughout our task?Adobe DreamweaverWindows PaintPanasonic SDR-S26 digital cameraAdobe Flash producerAdobe PremierBlogger.comMicrosoft Power Point
Windows PaintHow we used it?Paint was also used to create our logo as we wanted a simple logo design to fit the old fashioned style advert when the logo for the product would of first been created if real, therefore this program was ideal for creating a simple logo with no special effects. When scanning images for example our storyboards in we had to scan them in towards and then on to paint, this allowed us to then save them as images and go on to upload them onto our blogs, without this I would have been unable to upload the storyboards etc as images on my blog making it easier to view them.It is simple to use and allowed us to make the product quick and easy.
Adobe Flash ProducerHow it was used? When designing our web pop up and conducting research we decided we wanted an image that flashed to attract the attention of the target audience, but also so our product conformed to the norms of the real media products therefore to go ahead and make the product we needed to use this program. To create the image I simply inserted the image of the logo and a blank white frame one after the other is the sequence so it would appear as if the image is flashing but technically a fast sequence of the products logo and white frame is being played simultaneously one after the other.
Adobe DreamweaverWhere we used it?We used Dreamweaver to create the whole web popup by creating a table and then filling it in the colours set by the design, and typing in the various texts into the specific cells of the table. Which was quite simple and as we had already created the flash image we just could simply import the flash file and place it into the table which contained the web popup and place it where we liked. (the centre of it)Without this piece of software it would have been deemed virtually impossible to create one of the auxiliary tasks: the web pop up, as we needed it in this format so it could be displayed via the internet.
Panasonic SDR-S26 digital cameraWhy we used this technologyMAIN PART OF OUR TASKThis is the video camera we used to film our main task, which were borrowed by the school to us to capture our footage on for our main tasks and any images anyone may have needed for their auxiliary tasks, luckily we did not need any still images for our tasks however needed a radio jingle . Without this piece of hardware we would have nothing of high enough quality with enough features to be able to film enough footage to edit together that was of high quality. We also used this piece of hardware to record the other auxiliary task of producing a radio jingle, as we had nothing other than our phones to produce a voice recording on which was not advance enough to get a excellent recording we could use for our task.KEY TO ALL OF OUR FILMING
Adobe PremierIt allowed us to shorten clips and set the in and out of clips so that we only had to use the parts of the clips that we wanted to and were relevant to our task. Also if a actor mucked up there words but then started again straight away before the camera had stopped and then started recording we was able to set in the clip so the mistake was not included and it simply begin where relevant. I also meant we could put many clips together to iron out any mistakes that may have been made whilst filming it.When we used this...After capturing all the footage we needed, ensuring we had lots and lots so we could edit together all the good parts! We was also told that it was better to have too much footage than too little than we save cons in parts of the footage we could edit another clip in to it.The program allowed us to insert our background song to advert 1 which was “I`m walking on sunshine” by Katrina and the waves and make the music start when we wished therefore it did not start right at the beginning of the advert, we also were able to make the music quieter and turn up the footage sound for the parts when the actor said the catchphrases. This made it more professional rather than having the footage sound battling with the song or being heard when we wished it not to be.The program allowed us to put various effects in and transition between each of the frames to give the adverts a professional finish and so that they conformed with the norms of real media products. This program made our whole main task possible as it would not be enough to have just loaded the footage on to the computer, because of this program we was able to edit together our footage creating the outcome which was our two televised adverts .I would not like to imagine how our advert would of appeared without the film editing software, this software allowed us to make any changes we wished and produce the outcome we wanted.
Transitions and EffectsIn the second advert we used a range of transition to blend together all the homemade clips however we decided to use a previous clip we had filmed using an untuned television and then the dissolve transition so it appeared as if after each clip the advert tuned into another opinion/clip.Using Adobe Premier we was able to put various effects and transitions in to our footage that brought it all together to create two final adverts. An example of the different transitions we put in to create effect was in advert 1 where we inserted a cross dissolve spin into the washing machine this made sure that the clips cut together well but also created an effect of zooming round into the washing machine similar to a washing machine spinning.Another example is that to show how time went by we inserted a clock face transition that wipes round the screen turning the clip into the next one and also indicating that time has gone by. In this instance that the washing machine has finished its round. As we had to use the camera to record our radio jingle on this software also allowed us to edit two pieces of audio together and take out the visual so we was only left with a professional piece of sound. The program also allowed us to put the footage for advert 1 in order to make the footage look older and suit the theme and ideal outcome we was going for in that advert.“It`s honestly true without this software our tasks would of been impossible”
Blogger.comAs well as premier being a BIG part of our coursework this is where I was able to individually blog anything we done in the lessons and outside of lessons. When I learnt I would be using blogger again to record my progress as I did last year, I became excited as I knew it was an excellent way of using technology and showing off my skills but also knowingly thought my coursework will be presented attractively and show my progress and a step by step of how I made my task due to the date and time of each blog being show with each post.Blogger also allowed me to upload Emily's various rough cuts of video for our adverts and easily comment below them on why we did not use them but also allowed me to upload our final outcome media products displaying them to their full effectiveness and quality rather than having to print of out tasks or put them on to CD`s etc. This made us able to show the full process we went through to produce our final task pieces including our auxiliary tasks, it showed all progress we made in chronological order. It allowed me express all my ideas and opinions on whatever I wished and present my work how I wanted to present it. It allowed me to be honest with my ideas and present my coursework in a effective and attractive way I also like the fact that it saved a lot of paper!
The Internet“Without the Internet, I don`t know what I would of done”The internet played a big part in researching for my project, getting inspiration from various adverts broadcasted on YouTube and the company's sites, being able to listen to radio jingles and analyse their lyrics downloaded from the internet, being able to research web pop-up's and print screen these BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY ALLOWED ME TO BLOG!Being able to blog was a vital part of my project and with it being a site the internet was crucial in to being able to upload posts on what I had done each day and how I constructed by jingle together for example. However without the internet I would not have been able to conduct as much research as I did and also would of struggled getting inspiration for my main and auxiliary tasks especially when it came to the web popup as the internet was vital to be able to show the web popup actually working on the internet.
