I used various media technologies in the planning, research, and evaluation stages of my construction project. During planning and research, I relied heavily on online resources like YouTube to research trailers and magazines for inspiration. I used websites like Empire and Google to gather ideas. Zoomerang was helpful for creating and distributing an online survey to collect primary research feedback. I filmed footage and photos using digital cameras and edited them on Macs using Final Cut Express and Photoshop. Final Cut Express was used to edit my trailer and add music while Photoshop created tone cards and was used for ancillary tasks due to my familiarity with the software. Slideshare hosted my uploaded slideshows and linked to my online blogger.

Evaluation question 4
1. How did you use Media
Technologies in the Construction
and Research, Planning Evaluation
Stages?
2. I used a HD digital filming camera to film all the footage we needed in
order to make our trailer, which we later edited in order to make it look
professional. Whilst I was using the filming camera to film the footage my
media partner Kieron was using a digital camera to capture still images so
that we could possibly use them in our posters or magazines as we liked
the concept of having a scene from the film as one of the actual main
pictures. Once we had collected all the footage and pictures we
transferred them on to the Macs and edited them to see if they looked
professional as magazine front covers or posters.
3. Once we had all the pictures and footage we spent a lot of time on the
Macs in order to complete our main task as well as our ancillary tasks. For
my main task I used both Final Cut Express and Adobe Photoshop. I used
Final Cut Express as it was the software recommended to use by the
teachers, and I am pleased to have used it as it had everything I needed on
there in order to completely edit my trailer in order to make it look like a
real professional trailer. Final Cut Express is also where I edited the music
for my trailer. However I found it extremely difficult to get familiar with
the program due to the fact that it had so many different things to do on
their I found it challenging to try out new things on there for example the
fades. Due to the fact that I had tone cards in my trailer I had to use
Photoshop to make these tone cards which was easy for me as I had used
it already in my primary year of media studies. I also used Photoshop for
both my ancillary task, which did not take me that long as I am familiar
with the software.
4. • During the planning an research stages I used the internet a great deal.
This is because the internet was my source of information when it came to
gathering ideas about my own trailer, magazine and poster I had to
research into other trailers, magazines and posters. I visited the Empire
website in order to see their previous magazine ideas as they was the
magazine I wanted to follow and make my magazine similar to. I also
looked on YouTube for trailers, as well as uploading my own trailer up on
there in order to receive some feedback. I looked on Google and Yahoo for
horror posters.
• I also found that Zoomerang was a very helpful website. Zoomerang is an
online survey website which allowed me to upload my questionnaire
online. When it came to gathering my primary research I found that in
stead of handing out questionnaires and counting the results it counted
the results for me and it was easier for people to fill out as I handed out
the website to people in the study room that was already logged into
computers.
• Slide share allowed me to upload all of my slideshows on their and directly
link them to my online blogger of where all my Alevel media coursework
goes on.
