1. 3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and
why?
Film distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an
audience.
Vengeance Entertainment – Production Company for Ten Little Soldiers
The film can be marketed successfully by distributors in the UK, such as 20th
Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Lionsgate and Sony via horizontal integration.
However, cross-media marketing can be used through TV adverts, social
media campaigns and poster adverts in order to generate attention. The film
can be seen as independent as the film is ‘British’ with unknown actors and
actresses. Due the fact that it is a ‘British’ film, it undergoes an increasingly
low budget film and requires elements such as synergy and cross media
convergence in order to market and distribute the film.
Lionsgate is a California-based independent producer and distributor. The
company itself has previous experience in distributing horror films titled
‘Crash’. Therefore, I feel that for a small independent film like mine, a British
distribution company would be the most ideal. They specialise in horror
productions like my own and so could potentially be successful. However, if
distributing my film with a major company such as Warner Brothers, they
would be most suited in successfully distributing my film. This is because they
are able to use high budget trailers and marketing strategies in order to
globally reach out.
Personally, I feel that distributing our product through media platforms such
as social media and YouTube would be the most ideal. From this, I can gain
publicity and attention through acknowledgement on a global scale. Audience
members then share and comment upon this trailer and generate attention.
This can lead to the film becoming a large franchise through ‘good word of
mouth’. This enables audiences to then access all different types of trailers
from many different platforms.
