1. Distribution
The distribution of a film is the process where a film distributor makes the film available for an
audience to watch. This process includes releasing it into a cinema and putting it out on DVD.
Warner Brothers is an example of a company that distributes movies. Warner brothers has
distributed many thriller movies similar to ours such as Firewall (one of our real media texts we
took inspiration from) This company is likely to be interested in our film as it includes similar
conventions and themes to other films they have distributed before. Other distribution
companies similar to warner bros. Pictures ,are Columbia pictures who have distributed thrillers
such as the film xXx.
2. Does our thriller appeal to wide
audiences?
I feel our film will appeal to wider audiences outside of the UK. I believe this as it has many
conventions other thrillers that appeal to wide audiences around the world, also have. For
example we took inspiration from the thrillers identity and firewall and these appealed to wider
audiences. The plot is something people around the world will be aware and used to seeing in
movies so this could make the film appeal wider. The only thing stopping our thriller not
appealing to wider audiences is it has very similar themes and plots that audiences may become
tiresome of and feel they have seen movies similar to ours so have loss the appeal.
3. Possible marketing strategies
Possible ideas for Marketing strategies could be releasing a range of different advertising. Posters
and TV advertisements are a good way to get the movie out there and known by the public. Also
making sure the movie is accessible to the public so insuring the film is released into a good
amount of cinemas. Putting ads on the internet is also something to consider. Insuring the feature
is known in other countries will also be important to reach wider audiences, so maybe creating
adverts and posters in other languages will be needed. Finally a promotional tour of the actors is
a good way to market the film and inform people about the release.
4. Self distribution
Self distribution is defiantly something to consider. It offers us the guaranteed chance to feature
our movie in an independent cinema. The pros to doing this are there is a guaranteed opening
with no if’s or buts. It is also simple and you receive 100% of the box office income. The main con
of self distribution is that it doesn't reach a wide audience as it is only shown in normally one
independent cinema so only reaches to people in that area leading to smaller recognition.
