Question 3:
What have you learned from your
audience feedback?
Through our planning of our main product I have learnt that we needed to cater
out products to our audience, to get the best results. By asking for audience
feedback we could understand what they wanted from our product. To start I
researched our target audience profile type, in the country/pop genre. We
researched a variety of media products including music videos and tumblrs
under the country/pop target and found that we would be targeting
girly, quirky, natural/casual type girls.
After finding out what type of audience our audience specific is, we
planned some outfits for our videos according to our mood board. We
chose, knitted jumpers with lace, scalloped edge shorts, check
shirts, floral skirts, floral headbands, dungaree dresses etc.
We then pieced together
some of our video
clips, and presented rough
drafts of our video to a
focus group in our specific
audience bracket for our
genre.
We uploaded the clips to Instagram as it’s a popular multi-media
platform which allows us to reach out to a wider audience
receiving more feedback.
We got them to write down positive and negatives from
the quick video clips we had made so far and then
organised our results into a bar chart, to make it clear
what we needed to improve on, in highest priority order.
I also made a mood board of ideas for appropriate settings and props
for our music video based around the first research of our target
audience type.
For Ancillary Task
1, after taking a
photo-shoot of our
artist/model, we
mocked up an initial
idea for our front
cover of our
CD, however, we
noticed immediately
aspects of it which
just didn’t work, the
photograph was high
quality and made our
artist look desirable
and attractive, but
wasn’t powerful
enough to connect to
our Audience.
So what we decided to do was, ask our Audience
four questions about what they want from our CD
cover.
And with their response we decided to scratch
the first idea, research other CD’s we like and
start again.
This was our research and ideas after the audience
feedback…
We asked our Audience these questions:
Which one they prefer?
Why?
What it is they think is sellable about the
album?
and
What do they think a catchy album name is in
'one' word which reflects the narrative of the
video?
And the positive response we received was:
positive comments:
It's plain yet effective
It's different and has a strong impact on the audience
The mirror effect is powerful
It's appealing to the eye
The mirroring effect and the overlapping looks professional
It's emotive and not over done with words and colour
The final question we asked was 'what do they think a catchy name is in 'one
word?'
Comments: Momentum
Moving On
The Other Side
Over You
Love Died
After getting these results we decided to stick with the new ideas and
continue to get constant feedback as we add more ideas.
For Ancillary Task 2 in our planning stage we uploaded a rough idea of
our magazine poster , however we knew that we didn’t like it when we
posted it, so we just wanted to see what our Target Audience thought
of it, in case we can take some of their ideas and develop on from that.
However, as we anticipated all our feedback was negative.
So through, our focus group feedback we planned a completely new draft
and mocked up ideas, reverting back to what we originally wanted to do
which was keep our black and white theme throughout all our tasks. This
is an example of how we learnt from our Audience Feedback. Without
getting feedback we would have been completely on the wrong track in
order to please our audience.
We got a group of 30 female students of the age of 16 together to watch our Final Video, this group was the same one we had shown our previous videos
too, so they were aware of what it looked like before. We handed out pieces of paper and asked them to write down what they thought of it and what they
understand from our video.

'No black socks, makes it look so much better!'
'Emotions are so much better, sad and happy'
'Music fits, good scenes, good video!'
'I like the meanings behind the colours, good facial expressions they go nicely with the song lyrics'
All the results we received for our Final Video were
positive, due to this response we decided that we didn’t need
to make any further changes to our video and was finally
pleased with our product.

Final video on YouTube.
Without my Audience Feedback, I would have made a
lot of the wrong decisions along the way, and my end
products would not have catered to my Target profile of
people in my selected genre. I was pleased and
obviously put back by some of the positive and negative
feedback throughout the project, but in the end, my
audience has helped me to achieve three products that
link successfully together through the chosen colour
schemes, effects, fonts and overall appearances.
