2. The reason for this was to expand, attract and engage an audience.
The combination of all my ancillary products should hopefully
engage the audience I chose when doing research and create a
wider/mainstream appeal.
My A2 media studies required
me to make a short 5min film to
go together with an ancillary task
which was to make film poster
and magazine review film. I took
a lot from the soap and drama
genre, whilst researching key
codes and conventions.
3. After researching and annotating a real film review from
www.empireonline.com the purpose of a review became
clear to me.They give a critical response on the film. It lets
the audience know what points were good or bad in the film,
and whether or not it is worth spending time or money to
watch. Reviews can often include interviews with cast
member and crew involved on the production they are
usually done by professional film critics who have experience
in the film industry or just film fans who know a lot about
major productions and have seen lots of films.
4. Whist reviewing analysing a Film review
for myself I noticed a lot of criticism some
good some bad.
The review is the analysis/evaluation of
film.
This review about “Jurassic World”
featured on empire, a huge film
magazine. I noticed the review could be
quite informal in terms of the way it was
wrote. You’d expect this to be a bad thing
however its in fact the opposite because
we as the audience can relate to it more
and it makes you want to read more of it.
The review can a have a comedic response
or phases that can be related to elements
of the film.
Although it appears to be inform it does
have a certain layout. Everything is placed
in particular places to help the audience
understand and navigate clearly between
the review and the films information.
5. On the next page you will be able to see what I've taken from
my research on other reviews and what knowledge I've
learnt and put into my own.
7. Navigation bar – I remade elements of this
in word to resemble the style of the real
thing.
Film title, although the actual one didn’t
include the title; only referenced it .I felt it
was important to do so it was recognisable
I added the clip box in slightly smaller, the
reason for this being, I didn’t want it to
distract the audience from the actual
review. However I felt it was vital to put it in
so the audience knows what was being
reviewed
Information was kept separate from the
review so the attention was taken away and
so the audience wasn’t confused
I kept the review side different, I wanted t
change it up abit and put my own twist on it
that’s why I added a interview.
Quotation - to allow audience
to get a real inside comment
on what the film is.
Interview - Because I was writing the review as if
the film was yet to be released I felt it was best to
do an interview with a crew member in this case
the director. Question where asked by the
interviewer and then answered by the director.
The idea came from this idea of it being quite
informal.
