From feedback on his media productions, the student learned several things. For the trailer, strengths included camera angles and slow motion video, while weaknesses were the music choice. Feedback on the poster noted that changing the image from black and white to color with more activity improved it. Image quality needed improving when merging images for the poster. The magazine cover received some negative feedback, as the orange color did not coordinate well with the other pieces, and using the same image was seen as lazy. Overall, the student learned that music, images, and conventions must work well together in a short trailer to be successful within the genre.
Here I have discussed all of the feedback received from mainly our target audience as to what they like and dislike about our music video and ancillary text.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
1. What have you learned from your
audience feedback?
Question 3
2. When constructing my media production pieces
including the ancillary tasks being the magazine front
cover and the poster, i had to ensure that i was
meeting the codes and conventions that i had
researched commonly that are displayed in a social
realism film. The film trailer and ancillary tasks
constructed were aimed at audiences around the age
of 15-24 years old. In order to gain feedback, i asked
members of my school and also people i know outside
of school to get a wide range of opinions of my
productions to i can take their feedback as a way to
improve my productions.
Question Introduction
3. Trailer Feedback
From the feedback that i obtained, it became clear what the weaknesses and
the strengths were from the trailer. Throughout peoples responses, they found
that the main strengths were the camera angles and the use of the slow motion
video that had been put into the trailers. As we used an Iphone 5s, we found it
rather easy to do this as the picture quality was good and the slow motion
effect was a feature on the phone already making it easy to add to the editing
process on Adobe. one other positive was the camera angles, many of the
students i asked felt that the face of the girl was very hidden in most of the
footage, this made them want to view the footage more as they wanted to
reveal her identity rather than see her from behind or the side.
Yet some of the drawbacks included the music. I found that some people
disagreed with the music that was played in the background yet this may have
been due to taste in music therefore could be a biased view. To fix this, i would
pick a more instrumental song that is not well known, that way the music will
not be recognised and may encourage people to enjoy the trailers music a lot
more.
4. Poster Feedback
When asking the questions for the poster, the feedback focused entirely on
how much different the second draft was to the first draft. The feedback
included how different the picture was and how the personalities were
displayed through the use of the half images. In the first draft, the images
were in black and white and were both of a girl in school which was not
entirely appealing, appearing to be very bland and blank looking. Yet in the
redraft, it was evident that adding colour and a different image of the girl in
a run down suburban area made the appearance of the girl more attractive
and eye catching due to their being more activity in the image.
One thing i did learn even from the redraft was the image quality, as the
images were merged together, it was hard to have them blend in exactly
which did make the image look slightly distorted. Therefore if i was to
improve again i would make sure the image quality was a lot better and
accurate.
5. Magazine Front Cover
For the magazine, the feedback was slightly more negative than positive. I
found that people made comments on the shade of orange used for the
headings and the name of the film. This was slightly darker than the trailer
and the poster, which meant that the people did not recognise the magazine
cover as well in coordination to the other products. Also, people were a little
disappointed to see the same ‘bad girl’ image used on the poster and the
magazine front cover, this made the magazine look slightly lazy and less
organised and made the audience want to see more but not in a way that was
because they enjoyed it. yet some of the audiences agreed that it was a good
piece of work and the image did stand out a lot on the page. If i was to
improve this, i would ensure that the image was different and the colour
scheme was exactly the same as the other production pieces.
6. Overall Comments
I felt that overall, i was not knowledgeable on how many of the
conventions would be noticed by the audience and how many of them
would pick out little things that are wrong with the trailer that would
make a massive impact against other media products that fit the social
realism genre. I have learnt that together, the music and the images or
trailers conventions need to work well together in order to make a
successful piece, and that making a piece that fits within a 1.30min
production piece is a lot more challenging that i anticipated.
7. General Audience Comments
Patrick : “during the
trailer is was interesting
to see her personality
change. She went from a
quiet school girl to a
misbehaving thief. It was
evident she had a secret
side it was intriguing”.
Mikaela : “I feel that the
music was very off and
did not suit the trailer
very well, she is a girl and
the music seemed to
aggressive for a young
girl to be portrayed by”.
Jordan: “The slow motion
editing was awesome, it
really made the trailer a
lot more advanced, i did
feel the text displayed
could have been more
interesting and lengthy”.
Kirsty : “I liked the
poster, especially the way
the two images merged, it
was really suited to the
name of the trailer, yet i
felt the magazines colours
did not match as much as
the others”.
