What Have You Learned Form Your Audience Feedback? I put together a questionnaire to ask the target audience age and also have an interest in any of the bands/artists I have previous analysed such as Florence and the Machine or Eliza Doolittle. This way I know that the video will be of the same genre and hopefully the same interests of the group I gave the questionnaire to. That means that the results will be more reliable and relevant.
Favourite Images In the feedback questionnaire I asked our target audience to pick out their favourite part whether it was a theme, image or sequence. I found that 70% of the questionnaires filled in said the stop motion animation was the best part. They enjoyed the creativity and the fun that the animation had. The character and the objects involved created an alternate from a standard video. Other comments made were the links between the animation and the recording. The main character in the recording, the artist, is wearing the same outfit as the character in the animation. Also the artist meets the boy at the house and in the animation the same thing. The other 30% thought that certain recording shots were their favourite, The images on the trampoline were said to be unique and were remembered at the end. Example Pictures
How Does The Video Appeal To You? The appeal for nearly everyone one asked to complete the questionnaire was different. Because of the age of the artist and other character shown viewers found it easy to connect with, being shown a video with the same age people in it give the initial attraction. The video also doesn’t have unrealistic settings or story. The overall image isn’t made up or Hollywood style. The video has a lot of feeling in it and the scenes reflect that. The emotion of feeling lost or abandoned is conveyed through the colour palette being blues and greys, and also through the characters and the fact there is only two of them, its not full, its not a party. The scenes really show the emotion. For some of the target audience that is why it appeals to them so much. Also that there is a storyline that can be followed. Many comments were on the performance element, and how because you saw the artist playing the guitar it became quite intimate and further emotions where portrayed.
What Genre Would You Say The Music Is? I think genre can be difficult to label and especially if your not normally aware of genres. The music was said to be: Acoustic Folk Pop Acoustic/Folk Folk/Pop
Would The Video Encourage You To Listen To The Artist Or See Her Live? I asked if watching and listening to the video would make you want to continue to listen to Phoebe York or whether it wouldn’t make a difference. 90% of the audience said the video would encourage them to listen to Phoebe York again, this was because of the images of her and the content of the video, two of the comments left said that she seems like a down to earth ‘normal’ girl so they feel they can relate to her therefore enjoy her music more.
What Were Your Likes/Dislikes? One of the final questions was what did you like or dislike about my video. For this answer there was a variety of things said. The links between the visuals shown and the lyrics gave the video a strong connection to the song, the camera moment when the song says ‘I don’t know which way to go’ was pointed out to be the favourite because it shows the disorientation and the link is strong, this is because of the camera movement from side to side, it is a subtle movement but is the link. Another comment was made that the slower cuts were what they enjoyed the most, that the fade in/out gave it a natural flow. The variety of camera shots and angles used in the video gave it character and energy. The snow scenes where also pointed out as some favourite parts, the setting is important part of making the video athletically pleasing, comments were also made about how easy it was to watch and follow. Using the snowy setting gave it an unusual background and a blue/white colour palette. The only complaints were that there was not enough colour, one comment said that because the video was not colourful enough that he/she would not be encouraged to listen to any more of the artist’s music. The last complaint was the quality of the video, the camera shots were not in high definition, this would have helped because when we filmed the natural light outside has created a grainy texture to the film. This was disliked and I agree.
Ratings And Extra Comments The last things I asked the audience to do was to rate the video out of 10 and add any extra comments. As you can see the by the key, the video was not rated at anything less than a 7. Pie Chart to Show Video Ratings Rating Out Of 10 Extra Comments Easy to watch. Could see this on T.V. Very well constructed. Subtle but effective.
